Courtney resolved an issue I was having for a year in just a few minutes (car was under my dad's name who lives out of state and my previous experience with DMV's has made this process harder than it needs to be). In short: What's not to like? If you need tabs--which we all need--they take care of you quickly. In long: I realized at the very last possible minute that my truck was due for new tabs. Usually WA-DOL blows up your inbox for weeks and there's no way on Earth you'll not know you need them, but I was loading something in yesterday, and for some reason looked right at the license plate with a shred of conscious thought lingering in my brain. "Oh...wait. That number is THIS month." So I bought tabs online, which is fairly painless. Their website nudges you toward having the tabs mailed, presumably because that's what most of us usually do. Or, they let you choose where to pick up, based on proximity to wherever you're sitting when you buy. The state doesn't always have the smoothest web experiences but they're covering all the bases well enough here. Score another thing that never happens for this trip--my phone rang and I answered it as I was pulling in. They have a whole whack of 15-minute parking spots out front; even though they're in a very busy strip mall with bustling businesses in every suite around them, they mapped this out. Smart! And if I hadn't sat there like an idiot yapping on the phone, I would've strolled right in. But 5 different times, people walked in singly or in pairs, and I could see the line was now all the way back to the door. I kinda scolded myself for letting the line build up, all while shining my headlights in at the employees (sorry about that!). But I walk in and they've already processed everybody, just in the time it took me to switch off the truck, get my stuff, and step out. That's the best part of this whole thing, the line just flies. I came in not knowing whether to expect a DMV-type processing delay, and there was none of that. It kinds feels like a mini-DMV--high counters surrounding the lobby, some age-old chairs against the walls. But they have tons of race car and muscle car photos framed on the wall, and it doesn't feel like a government office...much less drag its feet like one. The clerk was super friendly and clearly knew her stuff. She had everything together in a minute or two. It has probably taken me longer to write this review than it took me to get my tabs. Tabs are, admittedly, the most-straightforward and most-common task they have to do here. I don't personally know about all the RVs, bigger rigs, and other stuff they have to process. But I like knowing that if I drag my feet too long on tabs and have to get them *today*, it's doable. read more

Came here on a Saturday to do overdue tabs. The line was longer because this office is the only place open on weekends until 5 pm (I went around 2pm). Line went fairly quickly. I think I only waited about 8 mins until it was my turn (there was about 9 people in front of me when I entered the office). Then the rep was super friendly and efficient. Message to the Silver Lake Licensing Service ownership. You're losing market share because of your lackluster customer service, and people are talking about it on Yelp and Google reviews. Whomever is working in the front facing end of your business is costing you money in the form of lost business, and you don't need this considering people can renew their tabs online or drive 5 minutes down the road to your competitors. Here is some free advice, identify and counsel the individuals who are not dispensing A+ customer service and give them a few weeks to improve. If it continues, terminate them a.s.a.p. and hire people who will represent your business properly. Kind of a tough review to write. I've been using SLLS for several years, generally without complaint. In general, if I'm picking up tabs I renewed online, or need to renew tabs and I've forgotten to do so online, it's convenient and usually fairly quick to get in and get out. More recently, though, I had a marginally more complicated task - registering and paying taxes on a collector car that I purchased from an out of state dealership. After stopping in the first time and being told they could t request the title directly from the dealer, and then a second time with the title and being told I needed a bill of sale (as opposed to the DOL website which indicates that FMV would be used), I'm in the third time with what SLLS has told me is everything I needed. The employee I was dealing with at the counter was great and helpful, and we were very nearly done! I just had to write a check for tax! That's when the "boss lady" inserted herself into our transaction. Without going into too much detail, the comments in other reviews about a "condescending" and customer-hostile attitude ring true. I don't know if they're talking about the same person, but in either case there's at least one person in a position of some power in the office who sees it as acceptable to lay into customers about absolutely opaque requirements to do the right thing - in this case pay taxes and register a car. I went to Snohomish Licensing and got it done in 15 minutes and had a nice chat with the employees there. read more

I just spoke to a very nice young man named James. I started explaining my problem, & he explained to me, very patiently, AND throughly, in detail how to fix everything. He asked me questions pertaining to the situation so he could give me more info on the situation. We were able to clear everything up in about 7 minutes! He wasn't rude, he didn't have an attitude, he didn't make me feel like he didn't care, and he didn't make me feel like I was bothering him! I normally go to the Canyon Park DOL, as it's closer to my house, but after this, I will only be going to the Silver Lake location! I went there yesterday to pick up my tab that my husband already paid for on line. The lady that work there on the first right window was very rude. I told her I came in to pick up the tab and gave her my id and last name. Then she got upset with me because she couldn't find my tab because it was under my old last name before I got married. Then she finally found it in the computer then printed it out. She told me I need to pay $38 to have my last name changed then tossed me the tab without saying a word. The tab was ordered at noon I went in to pick it up at 4pm it should have been ready. I will not go back to that place ever again. It was my first and will be my last. read more

Pros: no wait time, speedy service usually in and out. Cons: there's a lady that works here with gray hair and she is so rude and condescending that it always makes the experience terrible. I wanted to purchase tabs and had some questions about the new taxes I was paying and she had no answers for me and basically was like do you want tabs or not? It's not what you say sometimes it's how you say it and this lady obviously hates her job. Didn't like being talked down to. This was not an isolated instance I've dealt with her a couple other times in the past and it's always the same, terrible. I am afraid one young lady was "condescending" with customer-hostile attitude today. It was a simple task and I asked the difference between two options and she kept repeating herself with hostility. I have had very good service at this center for the past 11 years but today I need to ask the supervisor to make sure people at the counter are treated with respect regardless of being old with hearing problems or immigrants such as myself. I think she may have been hostile toward me because she does not like immigrants because my hearing is fine. At any case, she needs intervention by her supervisor. read more

Went in with my father-in-law (who's first language is not English) to try and do a change of address on a vehicle title. The grey haired woman was extremely rude and obviously racist. She asked if he wanted to remove the lien holder from the title. He asked what that meant and she just said "the lien holder!" A few times loudly. I stepped in and said "I'm not sure he understands what the lien holder is". She then started yelling "THE BANK! THE BANK! BANK! BANK! BANK!" I was stunned. I just stared at her for a while until she shut the hell up. Just because some one does not speak the same way you do does NOT make them DEAF or UNINTELLIGENT! Raising your voice like that just makes you look like an ass. On other occasions I have see this woman bring a small child into work with her, which is very unprofessional on it's own. Mid sentence she has walked away to go pick up the crying child, carrying her on her hip to come back and rudely finish 'assisting' you. Also, she has gone to her car to bring in her personal groceries so they can sit inside with her while she works. When she did this there was a line of customers waiting. Apparently she wasn't concerned. She talks down to people and treats you as if she is better than you. B*tch you work at a licensing office. Nothing glamorous about that! I'm not sure if she lives here or what, but her behavior is disgusting. read more

There wasn't too long a wait here, and the service was nice. I will say though that WA state prices are high compared to my former state of CA, especially including title transfer and especially if you have to pay their crazy fee for paying by credit card rather than check. But I got everything done and was outta there in not too long. Bottom line: Easy but a little expensive and the fees for credit cards are nuts. Like over 3%. read more

I recommend coming to this licensing service center for your tab/registration renewals. Today, I visited this office to transfer a vehicle title and renew my tabs. To my delight, I was greeted by a friendly staff and attended to quickly. Total wait time - 0 min. Total processing time - under 5 minutes. I was very happy with how quickly I was taken care of. Among the other unfriendly licensing centers (especially in Everett), I am glad that this center has workers that seem happy to be there and happy to interact with customers. Really not fond of this office. I've been here twice, this year and last, and both times I've had questions (1 - is there a way to get an extension?, 2 - can I pay for the renewal even if the emissions test isn't done?- and no, I didn't expect them to give me the tabs, I just wanted to pay for them, then pick them up later after I had the emissions test done) upon asking both questions the each of the ladies tones went from pleasant to curt and downright rude. They could have said something to the effect of "I'm sorry, no. The state doesn't allow _________" or whatever the reasons are, but instead, I got "No! We don't do extensions!" and "No! you, can't pay for the emissions test here." "I wasn't asking to pay for the test - I want to pay for the tags..." "No!" These ladies really need a lesson in manners. read more

Due to a clerical error and/or a sub-par postman, we had to purchase new replacement plates for a recent vehicle purchase. I was expecting a long line, crowded waiting spaces, surly staff, and to have to fork over nigh a hundred bucks, but it was quite the opposite. The layout was open, there were no lines, it cost only $35, the clerk was friendly and knowledgeable, and we were in and out in five minutes with our new plates and tabs. It probably would've been quicker if I hadn't been so verbose in my explanation of our situation. Definitely the best experience I've had at a licencing place. read more

This place has the worse customer service of any place I have ever tried to do business with. I've tried several times to do business with these people but they are overly rude and unfriendly, so I've never been able to complete a transaction with them. These people take their jobs way too serious and they don't know what their talking about they're always trying to find something to charge for. I recently went in to transfer a title and the woman with the mustache told me I couldn't title the car as a gift and she immediately said she would have to charge me tax at $3300, which is twice the value of the vehicle. I then told her that the vehicle was abandon on my property and the owner signed the title over to me, before I could even finish she rudely cut me off and said that I was required by the state to pay taxes on the vehicle. I told her I will go somewhere else to do the transfer and she shoved the paper back to me and said good luck in a rude tone. I immediately went 3 miles down the road to the thrashers corner location and had no problem doing my transfer. I highly recommend that you stay away from this place. These people look and act like bums, the women and the one old dude look like they just got out of bed and didn't even bother to put on some decent clothing or a professional attitude, very unprofessional. I highly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, it'll be a complete waste of your time, go somewhere else and save the headache, trust me. read more

I am usually not one to complain but this has got to be the worste customer service experience i have ever experienced. I went in to get new tab/plates/title. in one transaction using my debit card i was told that my transaction did NOT go through (as there debit machine was broken). While they were trying to fix it, I listened to the employees speak rudely to eachother and cuss. I tried to tell the man (very grumpy and rude) behind the counter that it actually did register in my account. he advised me that it did NOT and that i would need to go get cash if i wanted my items that i purchased (Totaling $122.00). So, reluctanly i went to get cash and paid. the whole experience was unfriendly and i felt like I was the one that made the mistake. Two days later $122.00 DID come out of my acct. After calling Silver Lake Licensing I was told they have NOTHING to do with it!!!! That they use a third party vendor. After disputiong the transaction with my bank, Vita Check AND the department of licensing, my money was refunded. Then 1 month later an additional $122.00 was deducted from my account, from Vita Check. I have been trying to dispute this with my bank and Vita Check who is claiming the transaction was not from them, when it is the same transaction ID all three times. i have spent hours on the phone with the DOL, Vita Check and my bank trying to get this resolved. My credit card info was clearly used fraudulently due to unsecure third party vendors used by Silver Lake Licensing. i will never use them ever again. and will definately let others know not to use them. read more

I recommend everyone teach these folks a lesson and fan this business for a few years. This is so typical of entitlementmindedness/selfishness. I've come across in quite a while. I just spent way too much time in liine waiting for a turn to process my fees and go. Two stalls were busy, yet a third gal was on the phone with 7 people in line waiting. I checked it at 22 minutes until she put the phone down and finally came forward to help/do her job. It would have meant less if I did not see or hear her talking about her favorite cars, car auctions and car clubs, while laughing and going on etc.. and have her looking at everyone over the cubicle wall at the same time. It was as if she just did not give a hoot who was waiting and how long, she could see us as we could see her. When it came to my turn (at 36 minutes) and I was met with smugness and a holier then thou attitutde. Although I believe in keepingy money local, I will not return to this business again. read more
