What more to say than this place does renewals of car tabs real quick and easy! I also appreciate the fact that they are open on Saturdays!

My overall experience at the Lynnwood Department of Licensing today, Tuesday 25 August 2026, was…read moreenjoyable. It was a warm day and opening the front door I found an air conditioned interior. The line was moderately long and as I waited I received a text that I could check-in for my appointment via my phone, which I opted to do. Upon checking in I was given a ticket number and an approximate wait time. Seats for waiting were positioned facing the counters we were served at for the appointment. I was in for a 6 year driver's license renewal and was back to my car by about 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The line moved quickly for the number of people present (from my perspective) and visual-audio announcing for ticket numbers was timely and clear as to which counter to approach. The worker I interacted with for my appointment was professional and clear in communicating. I had a few items on the license that had changed and the ones that could be updated were accommodated. Payment was straight forward and my payment method of cash was accepted. The parking lot was shared between businesses and on the fuller side.

If you do what they tell you to do and stop trying to make up your own rules. This is one of the most efficient things in the world. I had a 10:45 a.m. appointment at the Lynnwood DMV. They got me in at 10:38 and I was out before my actual appointment start.. Now that should be a role model for government efficiency. If everything can work this smoothly that would be amazing! Heck the drive-thru line at shake shack by Alderwood. It's 10 times longer than this place.. great job Lynnwood DMV.. David was the gentleman that helped me and couldn't have been more nicer and more efficient than I could have ever wanted.

Go online to make an appointment in August and their next available appointment is October?!? So I do the next best thing. Get there first thing before they open. I got there, well a little too early. Thought they opened at 8, so I got there at 745. No one there. Then I look and they open at 9. So I leave and find some place to go to the bathroom and return about 45 minutes before they opened. There were about 7 people in line so I rushed down to be #8. Sat and waited until they opened at 9. A lady comes out and says we have 60 open appointments today, there are no walk ups. She goes through the line handing out QR codes to scan and schedule. Guess what, since I had been on it earlier in the morning it automatically locked me out. People from the back of the line(which was well over 50 people deep were able to schedule and walk into 9am appointments. No signage or any of that. Guess getting up and being early or even being proactive gets you nowhere anymore. Couldn't even renew my license online, don't know why. Just said I wasn't eligible. This system is broke and this whole thing is a joke. So now I will be getting online at 9 am every morning hoping I can get an appointment soon. Good thing my license expires in a few days. They should send you a reminder a year before your license expires and have a scheduled date attached to it. If you miss it, it's on you. But if you make it, well that a way for this dumb system to improve a little better. We're all busy, and though I'd did know I was coming up on expired, no one told me the shit show of renewing. Go back to the old days, or open more facilities. Shouldn't even be a 1 star.

Shoreline Department of Licensing - Great...waited here for nothing. Sigh. (6/5/24)

I visited the Washington State Department of Licensing in Shoreline in July to get my enhanced…read morelicense, but the real standout was the waiting-room seating. These chairs were unexpectedly excellent. Firm enough to feel supportive, but not so firm that you start questioning every decision that led you to a government office. The backrest had a reassuring angle, the seat offered respectable cushioning, and the armrests provided just enough structure to make the wait feel official without becoming punitive. I had prepared myself for the classic plastic-chair experience: stiff posture, numb legs, and a growing awareness of time itself. Instead, I found myself comfortably seated, holding my paperwork and thinking, "Honestly, I could do another ten minutes." The whole experience was straightforward, surprisingly painless, and made me feel extremely responsible. The staff were helpful, the process was smooth, and I walked in as a regular person and left as someone officially prepared to cross borders by land or sea. Five stars for efficient service, quietly exceptional waiting-room furniture, and helping me complete an important adult errand without turning it into a full-day side quest.

Last month, I went in for a walk-in license renewal that needed to be done in person. I arrived about 15 minutes before opening, and although there was already a line, they had an employee outside checking in with people to make sure everyone was in the right place and knew whether they needed to stay in line. From the moment they opened, I was in and out in less than 35 minutes. If that's not efficiency, I don't know what is! I can't speak for every service they offer, but based on my experience, I really appreciate the staff and how well they run things. Big bonus, they have ample parking!

Info provided via QR code on the postcard and WA State Dept. of Licensing site were helpful. Unfortunately, the closest site in Shoreline was booked out to end of June! I can't chance driving with an expired license, so I started looking at other sites for available appointments. I snagged one for 5/8/26 at 0830 at the Seattle/Queen Anne site. I was also provided reminder updates prior and even on day of for check-in. Pro tips: Definitely make an online appointment versus hoping for same day service, unless you have plenty of time to potentially wait. Bring appropriate documentation to prove your identity and state residency. There's a list provided on their website. I had my current driver's license, car registration, passport, and car & homeowners insurance policies. Excessive, better to be prepared than not. Despite living in Shoreline, my appointment was scheduled at the Seattle/Queen Anne site. I gave myself plenty of time to locate it and find street parking. Thankfully, the parking rate via the app was reasonable. 45 minutes covered my time in line and the renewal process. When I approached the entrance 35 minutes early, there were folks already in line. Eventually this line stretched up the the sidewalk. Upon leaving, there was an even longer line and nearly full waiting area. Just saying. While I was waiting, I received a text to check-in to state that I was indeed onsite. This provided a secondary code to use upon entry and the check-in booth prior to being briefly seated. I literally was the first one served. Guess I did not need to be so early & freeze in line. That's on me though. I provided my current expiring license and answered all the questions asked. I even took a vision test to verify I no longer used corrective lenses/glasses for distance. I also declined my long time motorcycle endorsement. Note that driver's licenses can be renewed for either six or eight years. My photo was taken. This hopefully is an improvement over my passport and Costco membership card, lol. Turns out my ancient photo on record was since 2001! I finished up all the other things requested. Just make sure all the information on the temporary license is accurate on the screen before signing. This will be your temporary paper license until the renewed card arrives via mail. Note that there is an additional fee if payment is made via credit or debit card. No fee if payment is made via cash or personal check. I was done within ten minutes! Loved the humor and upbeat, friendly service from the gentleman at booth 4 that morning. I was expecting dour and curmudgeon service, ended up receiving the complete opposite in customer service. Props to that staff member! Many thanks! There's also a wall by the entrance/exit that had additional free informational pamphlets and guidebooks, just an fyi. Hope this Yelp post was helpful and that you have a positive experience renewing your driver's license onsite.

Every day at 8:20 AM the Redmond location releases same day appointments, I was lucky enough to get one of those. FYI every Friday at 4 PM they release appointments for the following week. Otherwise you're looking at booking out a month in advance. I was able to register and secure an appointment very quickly online -- although I will say that the website did not have EDL as one of its first options, which I think it should give the importance of that license now. I had to use the search bar to find it and only then did it pull up. It was confusing trying to make an appointment for a renewal but it wasn't just a renewal I was looking for. What was very helpful was the updating texts that reminded me of the appointment time and gave me the option to check in online. The helpful staff at the registration information desk confirmed my check-in. The waiting area was spacious with many chairs, and there were 19 kiosks which meant very speedy processing. I didn't wait more than five minutes however I had to step out of the waiting area for a moment and it was during that time that my number was called. The saving grace was the smart technology was that sent me a text informing me that my number had been called. Nathan Diamond assisted me. I had my previous drivers license which was then canceled out, my W-2 has proof of address and my photo was taken. I was given a temporary license that would function for 45 days but I could expect my license to arrive in the next 30 days. Organ donation was confirmed and I was given the option of putting my blood type if I had written proof of it, which I wish I had known in advance. I did not however have such a document with me so I was not able to put it on my card but I was told I could update anytime. I chose the eight year option which was about $144 out the door after all fees, etc. The five minutes or so with Mr. Diamond was really educational. I think I was out in 15 minutes total. The parking lot out front was free parking so no stress about parking. The staff was helpful so asked for their names. The two people at registration were informative and helpful as well.
