Quirky as hell but probably THE best fried chicken I have EVER had! This is totally the kind of place you'd expect to run into Guy Fieri and the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives crew filming in... heavy emphasis on the Dives vibe here... don't go wearing your Sunday best to this place... probably best to go after a full day of sweaty yard work in your grimy coveralls. I've driven past this place probably a million times... it's in Ogden (which itself is a dive neighbourhood so it fits right in) and boasts Broasted Chicken... but what the hell does that mean? Chef owner Doc tells me that Broasted Chicken means that the chicken is deep fried in a pressure cooker (!) - who knew that this technique = spectacular fried everything. The chicken comes out in fried perfection smoking hot (careful here because you're going to really want to take a big bite but that will require skin grafts to the roof of your mouth)... the product cooks in just a few minutes and it's not at all greasy even though it was just in a vat of molten cooking oil.. the obviously hand cut fries were pretty epic too with some very fine house made brown gravy... you'll probably wonder why you ever had KFC. Chef Doc squarely falls into the category of being a 'character'... I can see how he might come across as a bit 'gruff' or 'grumpy' and absolutely not fancy but he's super passionate about his food... I'm really looking forward to trying his fish and chips next time and/or his smoked brisket. Really solid! Getting a 'bucket of chicken' to take away would absolutely make you a champ at your next picnic or potluck... Doc tells me that his chicken is really great as leftovers out of the fridge and I can imagine that would certainly be true (next time I go I think I might order a few extra pieces to take home to do just that!)... apparently Doc marinates his chicken in some concoction of Indian spices and probably yogurt I'd guess and the result is crispy moist tender fried chicken that's just a little bit spicy. The place is a dump and the owner is a jerk, but damn the food is good. Chicken is great, fries are amazing and all for a reasonable price - 4 pcs including fries, gravy and a pop for $12.50. Burgers are really good here also, not fancy just good. This is definitely my kind of place. read more

I have driven past this place many a times and I just had to go in.... Well today was the day. Went for Sunday Brunch. The place is kind of a dive however the staff are very nice and attentive. i had the Denver Omelette and my date the bacon, eggs, and toast. The food was substandard but very affordable - our entire meal was less than $15 with coffee and all; even came with a free take-home Calgary Sun! Never had processed cheese on an omelette before; don't think I will ever have it on an omelette again either. So check this out if you are in the area and McDonald's is not your thing. This was interesting... next week it is back to healthy organic locally sourced hippie stuff for me! read more

I've made some poor choices in life and have been in many situations that I sure wish I wasn't involved in to make ends meet. I've done my best to count to 5 when I'm about to be aggressive and recognize that whomever it is in front of me that is frustrating: that that person is not responsible for the place that I've put myself into. I'm sorry that you're pissed off to be making chicken on a Saturday night when you should probably be spending time with your family if they've still stuck around but it doesn't give you the right to be a complete jerk to my wife. Close early, go hug your kids and stop picking on on people that are trying to give you money for your services. You're a terrible representative for customer service in Calgary and quite frankly, should go speak with some professional help. I'd pay your cab fair to the hospital if you're ready talk to someone about the way that you speak to women. read more

The owner of this business has a very bad attitude and is unfamiliar with manners and customer service protocols. He has a sign outside that says all day breakfast, he refused to make us breakfast and then tried to tell us what we should order. I didn't see a problem ordering breakfast. He refused to make us coffee because he would have to make a fresh pot, his exact words..... All of the food was very substandard and the chicken was slimy, the fries were the small burnt bits that stay in the bottom of the basket after a days cooking ....... Should have left after the first cue..... will NEVER darken his doorstep again. This experience reminded me of a certain episode of Seinfeld.... I actually almost burst out laughing on several occasions. The men's washroom was out of a 1980s mining town... Some people rave about his chicken. Good Luck!! Was in the area today and saw this place and thought I'd try it out. What can I say, small, shabby place, so if you're looking for fancy, stay out. If you want fresh cooked food, COME IN !! A famous part of a Fargo Tour in Calgary! We arrived with a company of friends with no expectations of food, (Just seeing the location with exactly the same tablecloths, bar seats and decorations as in the TV series was enough to make us happy) and decided to order a few burgers and fries. Portions were quite large, food tasted good and fresh and I particularly liked the fries which were evidently homemade, crispy and at the same time full of potato flavor (not salty of seasoned). The owner, who was also our cook and server was very friendly, helpful and communicative. Now, this is not a trendy-refined brunch spot and it does not attempt to be one, which is reflected clearly in prices and type of food served, it is a diner in Calgary industrial area that serves simple yet tasty food in portions that will satisfy even the most avid eaters. read more

I do admit that it's insanely cheap and there might be something worthwhile on the menu but I don't feel like going back to try.
