He continued to be gruff, rude and just generally unhappy with both of us and another family (German, I believe) who had stopped in about the same time. He didn't seem to want to take any time to explain the bread options, topping options, cheese options, etc., put the basic ingredients on the sandwich that the menu board said it came with, ring up drinks, anything. I approached him later after the other family had left and we were done eating and said I was sorry to hear that he was so unhappy with his job. He didn't seem to get what I was saying. He said it's hard when you're the only person on the job shift and you have to close up. I said I certainly understood. But I don't think he realized how much of a huge jerk he was being to everyone in the store, and so unnecessarily. OK, so maybe your job sucks. Maybe you do a lot of menial, repetitive, hard physical labor and you don't get paid that great. But also excuse us for trying to eat something halfway healthy for a meal while on vacation. Next time we'll go to McDonalds where we at least get pleasant service with a smile.
