We only had pie and coffee. The pie was extraordinary, the coffee tasted burned, unfortunately. Wonderful friendly service, both the host and the server. Smack dab in the middle of Kanab in a rustic building, lies this great find. We were HANGRY after hiking all day, this place and menu looked fitting. Come to find out upon entering and being greeted by the hostess....THEY HAD PRIME RIB ON SPECIAL! Yeehaw, that is my wife's favorite, so it was on. After searching yelp for a place that everyone said was good and didn't break the bank we decided to give this place a try. Man am I glad we did. I ordered the USDA hamburger steam with grilled onions. I left off the mushrooms because I don't eat fungus. The wife ordered the famous chicken fried steak. So I usually ask for ketchup and smother it because my mom's was not good and I found a love of ketchup. Anyway after the first bite I was amazed at the flavor of the gravy so ended not needing the ketchup. They also have these huge rolls that I used to sop up the gravy it was that good. The wife really liked the chicken fried steak but said the meat was a bit tough. The service was outstanding and just the right amount of attention. At least one in your party should try the Chicken Fried Steak. Maybe you who are reading this tripe? By the way, I don't know if they actually serve tripe, but if they do, it wouldn't be on my plate. I wouldn't be able to stomach it. The chicken fried steak is authenticly delicious. Perfect seasoning, perfectly breaded, and the gravy topper is the icing on the perfect portion. It's accompanied by two sides of your choice. I chose a baked potato and salad (get the honey mustard dressing, it's tangy good). You'll also get a dinner roll. Warm and fluffy. A complete meal. Just like you'd find on a chuck wagon, but without the dust and chaw splatter. If their #1 seller is this good, I'm sure #2 isn't far behind.....nope, I don't think that I'll joke in that direction. Where I will go, is back to Trail's End next time I'm in the great western town of Kanab. Quick Tip: For dessert, they have an assortment of pies. Save room for a slice. Everyone talked about the pie, and I foolishly did not save room after dinner, so I missed out on trying it. I'll have to come back another time and redeem myself there. Staying in town for the night we got to our hotel looking for a place for dinner and this restaurant was only about a 1/4 mile walk and they said no reservations but there should only be a 15 minute wait for a table for 8. It took a bit longer but that was no problem as the ladies went shopping at a gift store next door . We were seated at a table of 8 in the back room and had a friendly, talkative and excellent server named Don Ann. We ordered everything from wraps to steak to burgers and everyone enjoyed their meals at very fair prices. We stopped in for pie because of the rave reviews. Tried the Apple pie and banana cream pie. According to the banana person the pie was excellent the banana cream divine. I had the apple and was not a fan. The crust seemed very almost undercooked, not flaky at all the apple filling tasted like it came out of a can, and I would say it was very similar to Costco apple pie, which I am not a fan of. My sandwich came with one side while their dinner plates came with a roll and two sides. So the prices were very good for a tourist town. The guys enjoyed the Chicken Fried Steak. My sons liked their Mac and cheese side too. My sandwich was ok but since I said no to the peppers it was just topped with onions and cheese. Wish they had mushrooms too. Prices can not be beat as well given the generous portions. As recommended their best seller was the Chicken Fried Chicken - paired with their soup and mashed mac n cheese, it did not disappoint. We also ordered the rib eye steak with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes (they ask you if you want the white gravy similar to what they use in chicken fried chicken or a brown beef-based gravy) and it was cooked to perfection and was a good, hearty, warm meal. The dinner meals were reasonably priced, the portions were large and the food was quite tasty. I had the hamburger steak dinner which came smothered in gravy with mushrooms and onions. Don't believe the negative reviews. We ate here for a fly-in breakfast last weekend. Our table was 14 people and they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant was very clean, and the food was delicious with enormous portions. The prices are insanely low compared to Vegas. The highlight of the meal was our server, Shelley. Man is she skilled. Unfortunately everyone at our table wanted either a separate check or to be combined with a random person at the table, not necessarily sitting together. Shelley did not miss a beat, and she nailed all the orders, which was extremely impressive given the difficulty of some of the orders from a few of the people in the group. One member of our group was particularly, embarrassingly, long winded. "Bring me three eggs: one scrambled, one fried, and one poached in virgin olive oil. It doesn't have to be extra virgin, which I never understood. You're either a virgin or your not. There ain't no in between. I'll have extra crispy hash browns with finely diced onions unless you have those fancy Vidalia onions in which case forget about the one fried egg and make me a miniature onion and cheddar omelette, but only if it's white cheddar, and if it's not use American cheese with a sprinkle of Parmesan. What the hell, go ahead and put diced onions in the hash browns even if it's Vidalia. But if you charge extra for the onion then put it in the mini omelette but not in the hash browns. I'll have a side stack of blueberry pancakes with that, but be sure none of the blueberries are ruptured before the batter goes on the griddle. I'd also like a side of biscuits and gravy, and if your cook can make the gravy gluten free that would be great. In fact, make my blueberry pancakes gluten free too. Actually, if you have raspberries I'd prefer that, but don't try and sneak in some blackberries because I'll know. I'll have a side of bacon, crunchy in the middle and fatty on the edges, and it'd better be hot. Please put that on a separate plate. For toast I want that swirled pumpernickel stuff, also gluten free, and if you don't have that I'll take a dish of sliced apples instead, no skin, and cut horizontally. No tops or bottoms, just the center part. And if you have any hollandaise sauce that would be fine, but not too lemony. I'd like chicken fried steak too, but only if the chicken was free range, unless that range was California. Then I don't want it. Free range states I will accept for my chicken fried steak are: Idaho, Texas of course, Michigan, just all the swing states that Trump won in 2016 but lost in 2020. For coffee I'd like half decaf, half regular, with some fresh ground nutmeg. Put the nutmeg in the bottom of the cup first, then the regular half, followed then by the decaf. Stir it 3 times counterclockwise just before you serve it to me. I want a big mug too, at least 20 ounces, no 10 ounce deal. Bring me a side of hot water as well in case it's too strong. When it comes time to pay I'll be using part cash and part debit card. I'll need the check split too. Put my eggs and bacon on 1 check, and the other stuff on a second check. I'll also be paying for that guy wearing the cowboy hat, and that young lady sitting next to him, unless they're married, then forget it. Oh yeah, I'm in a super rush too. I need to be leaving in 25 minutes. Cmon now, don't just stand there. Hurry up and take the order of the other 13 people here. But before you do that can you see about getting the Rangers vs Yankees game on the TV? And I forgot to mention, that guy at the of table, it's his birthday, so if you could bring him a cupcake or something with a candle I know he would appreciate it. Oh yeah, and take our picture.
