Kenneth greeted me right away and let me know that only one computer was working at the moment and he was by himself, but he gave me a fair estimate of how long it would take since there were two cars in front of me. More cars continued to arrive after me, and he greeted them right away and updated them on the situation. The process was pretty quick and by the time I knew it, it was my turn. Don't trust 5 star reviews here. They are all paid reviews. Robert was talking on the phone when I got there and he was still on the phone while doing my smog check and even when paying. I got $10 discount for writing 5 star review and had to show it to him in order to get the discount. I came to this store " Smog star Express" today Sunday around 1:30 pm at 1130 Detroit ave in Concord. I waited around 2 minutes and nobody was around the counter and when I was leaving a guy with the name I believe of Edd appeared in this station so I asked him for the price of the smog check and he answered the price is $79.00 so I said is fine great let's do it and then I asked him what about if doesn't pass just to make sure right??and he repeated the price is $79.00 and if doesn't pass you pay $40.00 on top of the first $79.00. I used them before and I not recall pay extra $40.00 if the test fail. Just to make clear Yelpers I used them like 6 times and one time didn't pass that was 2 years ago and I didn't pay any extra because that was a Yelp offer posted long time ago and also Yelpers if you check it's website and old photos from yelp you'll see the promotional offer and as soon I mentioned that and I said I used you before he said sorry I can't help you and I said why?? And him without any good explanations said that's our rules now. I said that's bad and I will check you reviews later on today in Yelp again and he said what? What did you say? I had my car smogged at Smog Star Express. I was disappointed with the service, as it was quite long and not great. It seemed like they were looking for any excuse to fail the smog test, which would then require a retest and extra fees. The employees were also quite entitled. It reminded me of the pre-Uber taxi industry, where customers were helpless and had to accept whatever terms were imposed. I haven't written a review in years, but this irritated me enough to write one now. About a week ago, I needed a Star Smog Check, and found this business via a Google Maps search. The Google results and website indicated it was open for Sunday the 27th. The website allowed me to make an appointment for 9 AM, and sent me an email confirmation. Today, I show up at 8:45 am, and they aren't open. No matter, they open at 9, and maybe they don't open the gate till then. I kill some time, come back at 9. Still not open. I sit and wait 20 min, and call several times. No answer, no changes. Check their front door, no sign indicating they are closed for special reasons. Re-check Google's listing, and the company website. No changes or special notes or holiday hours there. Re-checked the appointment to make sure I didn't get the date or time wrong. At about 9:20 AM I called one last time, then I gave up. Called another place that was open and took my car there, without an appointment. It cost more than here, but at least its information was accurate. So would not recommend. read more
