How much difference could there really be from one place to another? Turns out, quite a bit. When I got to Alpha Smog Center, Mike greeted me with a smile. The World Cup was on a TV in the background and apparently I wasn't doing a very good job of hiding the fact that I was trying to catch a glimpse of it. Mike noticed right away and invited me into the shop to sit down in a comfortable chair and watch while he took care of the car. I'm pretty sure he even offered me something to drink. The whole thing only took a few minutes, but the point is Mike treated me like a guest instead of just the next car in line. Those little things matter. My only minor complaint is that the location can be a little tricky to find because there are a couple other smog places right around it, so pay attention when you're pulling in. And yes, the important part was just as easy. The test was done quickly, the results were immediately reported to the DMV and I was cleared. Thanks, Mike. Appreciate the hospitality.

I've had a lot of Smog tests, but god damn this is the best smog test experience I have ever had…read more Right when I parked someone came to greet me and they were already working on a car. They have a DRINK FRIDGE with soda and water!!! The customer service is the best I have EVER experienced. I started a project on Yelp and talked to Mike who I then met in person. Really nice and the service was lightning fast. Helped that I showed up during the day on Thursday. Pay with CASH and let them know. Value is most competitive and I compared prices. They even gave me a little clear envelope for all the documents. Alpha Smog Center goes above and beyond for customers and I hope you get the privilege of getting your car smog tested here too.

The owner is young, immensely sharp, knowledgeable, and clearly knows his craft. He's friendly, personable, and treats you like he's known you for years. That kind of customer service is getting harder and harder to find. And here's the best part: call first and ask for the best rate! He beat every local price I found. I actually removed the posted prices from my review because he gave me a better deal than what was posted in the store. Quick note on finding the place: The Apple Maps directions were a little confusing for me at first. It's on Stone St., right when you turn off San Marcos Blvd. You can park along the curb, or if there aren't any cars there, he'll have you pull up into the small driveway. See the attached picture... that should make it much easier to spot. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. Fast, knowledgeable, friendly, clean, and competitive pricing. If you need a smog check in San Marcos, I highly recommend giving Midnight Smog a call before you go anywhere else. Five stars all day!
