Midnight Smog - Excellent service and competitive pricing! - Smog Check Stations Near Me - San Marcos, California

This place is incredibly clean, the service is fast, and they even offer free Keurig coffee and water while you wait. The owner is young, immensely sharp, knowledgeable, and clearly knows his craft. He's friendly, personable, and treats you like he's known you for years. That kind of customer service is getting harder and harder to find. And here's the best part: call first and ask for the best rate! He beat every local price I found. I actually removed the posted prices from my review because he gave me a better deal than what was posted in the store. Quick note on finding the place: The Apple Maps directions were a little confusing for me at first. It's on Stone St., right when you turn off San Marcos Blvd. You can park along the curb, or if there aren't any cars there, he'll have you pull up into the small driveway. See the attached picture... that should make it much easier to spot. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. Fast, knowledgeable, friendly, clean, and competitive pricing. If you need a smog check in San Marcos, I highly recommend giving Midnight Smog a call before you go anywhere else. Five stars all day! read more

My regular smog check place, where I'd been going for years, suddenly closed, and I only found out when I drove up and discovered the building had become an EV used car lot. Go figure. Sigh. So I jumped on Yelp, found Midnight Smog, and I'm very glad I did. They were a little difficult to find at first because Google Maps sent us to the wrong location, but once we called, they were super helpful. I asked if I needed an appointment, and they said, "Nope, come right in." That alone was a huge win. The service was excellent from start to finish. They were professional, reliable, affordable, and efficient. The owner was incredibly nice, knowledgeable about cars, and very friendly. My car was smog checked and everything was handled within about an hour. In a world where good service can be hard to find, Midnight Smog was a breath of fresh air. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing a smog check, and I'll definitely be back! read more

I absolutely like this place! Nick, the owner, is incredibly pleasant, honest, and courteous. The cleanliness of the establishment is commendable. What sets this place apart is its convenient 7-day-a-week operation until 7:00 pm every day. The transparent pricing is another plus, eliminating any hidden fees. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a reliable and enjoyable dining experience. read more

The cleanest, nicest smog check place around. Great service, offers coffee and bottled water and gets the job done.

Quick and efficient service! Nicholas was very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend.

Midnight Smog. This place is great. I'll never go anywhere else again. First, it's so clean. Look at the pictures. So different than any other shop. And free bottled water and Keurig coffee. Very convenient for me - on South Las Posas Road, between West San Marcos Boulevard and I78. His hours are insane - 8am till 7pm every day, and on Wednesday till Midnight. His prices are clean too! Others give you a price, then, in the fine print, comment that you have to add $8.25 for the Certificate. Nic gives you one price, which includes everything. Clean, like his shop. And his prices are good, as good as the completion. So why go anywhere else? I sure won't. read more

Most excellent experience at Midnight Smog today! Professional, friendly, fast and efficient. The location is spotlessly clean, airy and bright. Coffee and water for while you wait. You can look over the small counter and watch your vehicle the entire time if desired. We drove right up and were helped immediately. No waiting, no appointment. They are new to San Marcos, so once discovered I'm positive they will be busy. Great prices -and a coupon special right now too! Bonus - two cool cars to see in the bay (BMW and Porsche). Go see Nic, you'll be happy you did. Your car smogging experience will actually be interesting and fun! Side note, Midnight Smog does not register your vehicle like some shops -- Just smog. We are good with that. read more

I have seven cars, and I've already had to take two of them in for smog checks over the past couple of weeks. Having a shop that's open later in the evening has been a huge help. I work during the week, so it was always a struggle trying to get a smog check done after work. Not anymore thanks to Midnight Smog! The service was fast, the staff was friendly, and the whole process was quick and hassle-free. Highly recommend! read more

This was the most comfortable, efficient, and friendly smog check location I've ever visited. I called on a Saturday and was told no appointment was needed. When I arrived, there was no wait at all. They even had comfortable chairs set up outside on a warm day, which was a nice touch. The location is convenient, and the signage made it easy to find the correct entrance without any confusion. Running errands is never fun and getting a smog check is usually pretty low on the fun scale. I found this place through Yelp and of course, me being me, I waited til the last minute to get this done and saw that no appointment was necessary and I was immediately sold. First off, super friendly service with clean modern vibes and coffee/water available. It really made getting a smog not feel so much like an errand . Not to mention, it only cost $40 for less than 10 minutes. What a steal! Definitely recommend choosing Midnight Smog for your next smog check. Super friendly service and great vibes. They're new in town and I'd love to see them stay! read more

I needed a typical smog check in order to renew my registration. I received a recommendation from a nearby auto shop to check out Midnight Smog. Called them to make an appointment but was told I didn't need one and to just drop by when I could. There were 2 people ahead of me when I checked in so I settled into there lounge. I was watching some surfing videos on a big screen settling into a book and before I knew it my car was ready in record time. Clean, comfortable friendly, good value. I'm recommending this place to everyone I know. read more

Just went to Midnight Smog in San Marcos and had an awesome experience. The shop is super clean and well put together -- honestly one of the nicest smog stations I've been to. I loved that they had two cars inside on display, almost like a little mini museum, which was a really cool touch and made the wait way more enjoyable. Nick was super friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. He got me in and out quickly while still taking the time to be welcoming and professional. You can tell he actually cares about the business and the customer experience. Overall, smooth, quick, and stress-free. I called a few places and this was the most affordable and said he could get me in right away. I just can't say enough about this place. If feels more like a spa than a smog shop. It's incredibly clean, beautiful big screen TV playing calming music and he even has cold bottled water and coffee while you wait. The price was incredible. He just opened in October it's taking a while to get it going but he's the owner and doing it right though. I highly recommend getting your car smog here, you won't be disappointed. read more

Really good experience here. They're pretty new, but everything was quick and straightforward. Nick, the owner, was easy to talk to and clearly knows what he's doing--had me in and out in about 15 minutes. Paid around $50 for my car, which was good deal. The place itself is clean and comfortable, with a small waiting area and coffee/water if you need it. If you're someone who doesn't know much about cars or just wants to avoid feeling overcharged or talked into anything, this is a solid place to go. Overall, just a solid, no-stress experience. Definitely the kind of small business worth supporting! read more

I have not given feedback in quite awhile, but I felt compelled to jump on and express my absolute joy at finding Midnight Smog. Like other reviewers, if I could give 10 stars, I would. I have been getting my cars smogged for over 44 years and this is bar-none the best, most reasonably priced smog test I have ever visited. (in my life, that is around 30-35 smog tests so far). As for the shop: good location, the signage is really clear, the shop is spotless, the staff is really friendly and helpful and the price with a coupon is unbeatable. Backstory: I have zero time during the regular week to go to a shop. Saturday is my only option. I searched north county (Encinitas, Carlsbad, Escondido and San Marcos) for Smog shops that were open on Saturdays. I figured no one would be open on Sunday. One shop in my Encinitas neighborhood was listed as open until 4pm on Saturday... I drove down at 3:15pm... NOPE! They stop taking new customers at 3pm and would not make an exception! They obviously do not want my business. I jumped back on the Internet & found Midnight Smog. Great name! ...and I was amazed they they actually stay open until midnight on Wednesdays! More importantly, they are open until 8pm all other days - Sundays included - and were STAR certified. San Marcos is a 20 minute drive - but I had to get my car smogged this weekend, so I drove up with no appointment. There were two customers ahead of me, one was having his car smogged. The owner Nic immediately acknowledged me and said he would be with me shortly. Nic was so efficient that my turn came up before I knew it. As mentioned, the entire shop is spotless and the waiting lobby is really comfortable. They offer free coffee and water and they have a beautifully restored Porsche 914 and a rare BMW Isetta on display. I asked a few questions about the Isetta (I had never seen one before) and that started a really interesting discussion with Nic's father Fred. My wife even liked being there. Long story short - I will NEVER go to any other smog shop again. Seriously, even if I had to drive 40 minutes and wait in line an hour with 10 other people in front of me, I would go to Midnight Smog. Getting my car smogged here is better than any other shop I have been to. It makes me happy to support this business and will tell everyone I know about it. THIS what hard work and great customer service look like. read more

The space is bright, clean, and the waiting area is surprisingly comfortable and inviting. The staff is super friendly, the service was quick and efficient, and their prices are very competitive. I also love that they're open late, 7 days a week. Supporting a great local small business that actually cares about the customer experience! Highly recommend! read more
