I have been coming to Smitten for about 3 years. I initially booked an appointment after I saw pics of a former Redskins cheerleader who I follow on Instagram. Also, I didn't know until a few months after I had been going that my best friend also goes to Smitten and she loves it too!! The salon is nice and can get really busy, which is a great sign to me. The girls at the front desk are nice and I have never waited long for my stylist to come and get me. The girls who do the shampoo services are also fantastic. The scalp massage/ pressure during washing is so great. The whole salon feels like it's a completely well oiled machine! Started with Tiffany who is absolutely awesome. She helped revive my hair, shape it much better and make it look its absolute best. Earlier this year, I told Tiffany I wanted longer hair. She pulled Melia in, who specializes in hair extensions. Melia color matched my hair and gave me all the details about various hair extension types. We decided on tape-in's. I ordered my hair a few days later and then 2 weeks later, had my first appointment for install. For those considering getting extensions, Melia will tell you about all the hair extension options and make sure to help you choose the best option for you. Let me tell you, she knows what she's doing and is such an expert that you will not regret getting them!! To be honest, I was nervous about getting extensions initially. Fortunately, my hair is naturally blonde so I have never spent a lot of money on my hair. I was ready for a change and ready to indulge!Hair extensions are not cheap and they shouldn't be. You pay for the hair first for it to be ordered and then for Melia's skilled genius to install them! If you want it to look natural and beautiful and stay attached to your head/hair, you need a perfectionist professional like Melia! She talked me through the purchase and install, showed me what she was doing, and went over all specific details about how to take care of my new hair. The hair she recommends is extremely nice quality. This is very important because you want the hair to look as natural as possible. She also let me know the hair itself would last about a year, depending on how I maintained it and that I would need to come back for adjustments every 8-10 weeks, which I do religiously! I am a bit of a rule follower when it comes to personal care so I have followed Melia's instructions very closely and it's really paid off! I can dry my hair normally and curl it, use my fave products (seriously the Bumble and Bumble products at the salon she recommended - Thickening Dry spun Texture Spray, Dry Oil Finishing Spray, and Dry Shampoo are amazing and all smell so delicious.) My hair and the hair extensions are very healthy. I have not regretted getting extensions for one second. Again, I attribute this to Melia's talent! I am SO happy I started seeing Melia. Not only is she a complete rockstar at hair extensions, but she also shaped my hair to blend in perfectly with the hair extensions. She clearly is extremely good at what she does and it just seems like her personal goal to make you look the absolute best you have ever looked. Whether that's a haircut, hair extensions, styling, etc. (again I can't speak to coloring because I have never needed nor wanted to color my hair, but I'm certain she's fantastic at that as well!!) I feel like a million dollars whenever I leave Smitten, which was true when I saw Tiffany as well, but I am love love loving the hair extensions! I have surrounded myself with an awesome team of caring, talented people when it comes to my hair/nails/skin routine. I am so glad that Melia is a part of my team now. I always look forward to seeing her, chatting with her, catching up on various Bachelor/Bachelorette drama, family stuff, personal stuff, sharing silly stories, etc. It's so cool to have a connection with the people that make you look and feel your best. Melia is personable, positive and bubbly, as well as extremely gifted at what she does. I cannot recommend her services enough or say enough wonderful things about her as a person. She's my cheerleader and just generally so supportive! Plus, she has killer outfits, and always has some fun new hair style - example - space buns or braids. Ask her for details!I trust her completely and I know she's going to make me look and feel my best. I wish I could give more than 5 stars because that's how truly awesome I think this salon and its stylists are. I can only speak to how great Tiffany and Melia are since I have only seen them, but I have to imagine that everyone else is pretty awesome too. I have seen the pics on IG! Have never seen a bad head of hair! My only recommendation is to book each new appointment while you're at the salon because they are busy and fill up quick! read more

This was my first experience at Smitten and I am so happy to have found it. I visited Ashley for a highlight and needed a last minute appointment ahead of my bachelorette party. She books up quickly but they were able to work around her schedule to get me in and were so accommodating. Ashley was warm, listened to what I wanted and made me feel so comfortable. The shampoo was relaxing and needed after a full workday. Overall I'm thrilled with my hair and will be returning. The only odd thing was that at checkout they ask how much you'd like to tip (totally normal) but then they hand you the cash to distribute into envelopes and mailboxes. It just seemed weird to be counting cash at the register. Totally a minor thing but I will for sure be returning back to Ashley over and over again! read more

The receptionist was very kind but my stylist Giau was very inconsistent and inconsiderate. She took over an hour to even see me stating that she was in the back eating. I don't think she understand the workload or commitment it takes to be a stylist. She then told me it was my fault that she took so long. So rude i will never be coming back to this salon again. read more

Nice staff, great management, always clean, front desk is accommodating. Free parking in the back attached garage (almost unheard of in Arlington) and most importantly great hair! read more

Such a great find in the VA area. I've been wanting to find a salon i can trust and regularly go to and i've found it l!! The receptionist were a little unfriendly but other than that 5/5 experience. My girl Giau Ho killed it with my hair, will be back. read more

I am not kidding when I say I don't write bad reviews. My goal is actually to only write positive ones to help businesses if they've done a great job. When I first left Smitten Salon a couple of weeks ago, my hair looked phenomenal. I got a ton of compliments and felt so confident. I had been getting blonde highlights for a long time, and started not liking them anymore due to fading after about a week. So I decided to go back to being dark. I'm not sure what they put in my hair, but after only a few days, a huge chunk of the left side of my hair was blonde, while the other side had one streak of blonde and the rest was brunette. It looked (and still does) like Cruella Deville's hair. It also felt extremely damaged and now feels like straw- and I use professional grade hair products, silk scrunchies, not many heat products, and if I do, I use a professional grade heat protector. I reached out kindly to the owner to request a refund given that it lasted no more than 4 DAYS! I was told they do not offer refunds but that they would happily fix my hair for me. Being honest with them and saying I was uncomfortable getting my hair fixed at the same salon that so badly messed up my hair 2 weeks ago, they still wouldn't offer any money back. They were unapologetic- I expected at least a little sympathy after sending photos of my hair. Please avoid this place. I paid over $500 for hair that looks horrible, and not to mention feels like straw due to damage that was caused. *They will likely respond to this review saying that I was blonde for years and that's why the color didn't hold. You guys, that is not true. I have spoken with several hair experts after this experience and was told that it should have lasted 8 weeks at a minimum. They will also say that I was offered a consult to get it fixed. That is true, but I am not risking it. I feel totally scammed and now have to spend hundreds more on getting it fixed at a friend's salon recommendation. I will never be back and will be letting my friends know to avoid. read more

I was in town for a gala, and opted to make a last minute appointment here for a formal updo before the event. Giau as awesome and gave great attention to detail for my style. The entire salon was friendly, comfortable, and clean. They have a great vibe there! Highly recommend. read more

Went in wanting blonde highlights.. left with DARKER HAIR. Would not recommend. Extremely overpriced.

Can't believe I found this place. Seriously a gem. Support local businesses, you won't regret coming here

I'll start by saying my experiences at the salon were fine and I liked my cut and color, but that's saying more about the stylist than the salon. The low rating is because the morning before my regularly scheduled 6-week trim/highlight I got a text from the salon letting me know that my stylist was no longer working at the salon and my appointment was cancelled. No offer of other stylists available during that time, or effort from them to get me re-scheduled. It's pretty obvious they don't care about my business. So, now I'm over-due for my color and need to find a new salon/stylist...with my wedding 6 weeks away. No pressure! read more

The salon is absolutely gorgeous. They played great music, it wasn't too crowded, and it was very clean. Su Jin did my highlights and I cannot recommend her enough! I'm a natural blonde and she did a great job of doing baby lights that look blended, bright, and natural. I am always so skeptical when it comes to stylists and how well they can do blonde and Su Jin absolutely killed it!! Would 10/10 recommend Smitten and Su Jin! read more

Smitten - Babylights - Hair Salons Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I recently moved to the area and was long overdue for a haircut and highlight. I booked with the first available stylist for this past Saturday and the front desk booked me with Gretchen. I have hair all the way down to my butt and it is very thick, so I am always nervous when I have to trust someone new with scissors and color because I've had other stylists rush through my highlights to get it done or take off 4-5 inches when I only asked for a trim. Gretchen FAR exceeded my expectations! She took time to ask me a lot of questions about what exactly I was looking for, and made recommendations based on the pictures I showed her to get my desired result. She took the time needed to balayage my hair and when it came time for my haircut she was super respectful of my length, taking only the inch off that I requested and shaping up my face-framing layers. I can honestly say I have never been happier with my hair. The color is so beautifully blended. To top it off, the sweet lady who shampooed me gave me the best head massage I've ever had and whatever products they used on my hair have made it feel like silk and smell amazing. Awesome first experience and I am a newly loyal Smitten/Gretchen client! read more

I have been going to Smitten for a few years and am always amazed by the quality of care they offer. The front desk is always so friendly, and the stylists ask if there is anything we would like to drink which is a plus! I have seen 3 stylists over the years and recently saw Julia who did an amazing balayage on my hair for my wedding! My hair was exactly what I wanted and was beautiful on my wedding day. Highly recommend! read more

I got my hair done with a few days ago & it's amazing! I was nervous about going to a new salon, but she did such a good job. She talked me through everything she was going to do before she did it so I was comfortable. I will definitely go back. I would say the only "negative" thing was that a woman at the front desk was kinda rude when I was checking in & out. I'll still go back & she was great! read more

I have come here three times now for my haircut and believe that this will be my go to for haircuts for as long as I stay in the DC area. I have gone to Michael each time and he has done a top notch job each time and is also super bubbly and welcoming, so the haircuts are always fun too. They also have great hair washing staff who are always welcoming and do a great job washing and massaging your head pre-haircut. It is a little bit on the pricier side, but is definitely worth it because the experience and results are always amazing. read more

I've had my hair done by both Lisa and Melanie (co-owners of the salon) for years now - and as someone who is incapable of sticking with one hair color or style for longer than a few months, I can definitely speak to their many talents. I always go in armed with a photo, or an idea of what I want, and they're quick to tell me whether it will work with my hair, and if not, suggest other options. Melanie has taken my hair from blond to red to brunette and back again - no easy feat - and each time it's looked amazing. You only have to look at the stylists in there to see they clearly know their stuff - once I get tired of my long hair, I'm planning on copying Lisa's asymmetrical bob. The salon itself is a welcome change from others in the area, which all seem to have the same uber-modern look. Smitten has more of an elegant vintage, cozy vibe to it - a mix of brick walls, tin ceiling tiles, a chandelier, a vintage barbershop counter - which is filled with goodies. Cappuccino and cookies while my hair is getting foiled? Yes please! They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. Last time I was in, they told me about their "Fake Fridays" promotion - I wasn't there on a Friday, but apparently you can get your Kardashian on with some complimentary fake lashes before heading out for the night. read more

Hi Lisa the owner and Stephanie the stylist.. I'm posting this photo of my $200 balayage..Lisa the owner confirmed was her definition of a balayage and to get it fixed and redone I would have to pay an additional$200 as she did not see anything wrong with it. Not once did she apologize.. I'm very disheartened, had to cut 5 inches off my hair due to the damage. Worst experience ever. Watch out ladies...Don't get fooled like I did reading all the other reviews. The photo says it all... DO NOT RISK THIS TERRIBLE WORK,COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! read more

Smitten - Hair Salons Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I found Smitten Boutique Salon on Yelp after moving to the area. I submitted an inquiry and was called pretty quickly to schedule an appointment. I informed them of my hair type, what kind of cut I wanted, and my budget. I was told there were three price tiers based on the stylist. I made it very clear that my budget was a third tier stylist for $70 plus tip. The receptionist confirmed this with me. At the salon, the hair washing service felt very luxurious and my stylist was very friendly. I wanted a summer cut up to my shoulders, but the stylist insisted that collar-bone length hair would be better for me. I repeated "I wanted it shorter," but she told me to live with the haircut and come back if I still wanted it shorter. After she dried my hair, she sent me home with a crown of frizz. I asked if she could put more product in it to calm the frizz, but it didn't help. When I went to check out, I was told that my stylist was tier two, so I would have to pay $90 plus tip. The woman at reception was the same woman who confirmed with me over the phone that I wanted a tier three stylist for $70. She would not budge, nor apologize for the miscommunication. To avoid more conflict, I paid $90 with a $20 tip. Two weeks later, I was still unhappy with the length, so I called the salon and told them what the stylist had told me. The receptionist (the same woman I've spoken with during this whole experience) told me that I had to come in within 2 weeks of the cut to get a re-adjustment and that it would be hard to schedule me for a trim. This was nowhere on their website, nor did the stylist tell me of the time limit. Also, I called exactly two weeks after my appointment, to the day. In order to avoid any more stress, I'll go to a different salon for a trim and hopefully some kinder staff. read more

UNGODLY EXPENSIVE BAIT AND SWITCH My daughter went to Smitten as a first time customer today. She reviewed their website to get an idea of cost ($275 - which is very expensive, but I figured the prices would be higher since it's in Arlington). She then consulted with her stylist at her appt and they decided on full highlights. At this point there was no discussion or explanation of what this would cost. When she checked out and was charged $500 she had sticker shock and just paid it. She left the salon bawling, so upset that she spent so much of MY money for a simple color and cut. If I had been with her, there would have been a huge scene!! There's NO WAY that any other business could get away with almost DOUBLING the price of their service AFTER it's been completed and without advising the customer! NOW I know why they require that they have your credit card on file before they book your appointment. It's not like you can give an item back and not pay for it when you find out it's twice the price you expected. Your hair is done, they can't undo it. It's obvious from my daughter's experience at Smitten and after reading all of these reviews, that this salon is ONLY about the money and NOT customer service. She's never going back there (not that they care..they already have my money!) and we will make sure to share her horrible experience with everyone we know! read more

This place is wonderful!! Moriah cut my hair a few months ago and did a wonderful job. I recently went back for a partial balayage and am obsessed!!! She nailed it. This was my first time coloring my hair and she really listened to what I wanted and asked questions about what I did/did not like - then executed accordingly. I have long, thick hair that I'm pretty picky about but felt really comfortable with her. Another stylist even asked her for color advice at one point. She is clearly a master of her craft! read more

Michael is the best. I've been seeing him for 6 years now, and he always makes my hair feel fresh and fun. I've been through quite a few milestones with him, including professional work cuts, the "I'm bored" fun new cuts, wedding and hair extension prep, growing it out, cutting it shorter. And through it all, he's always very supportive and balances suggesting new things while keeping with my style and definitely not pushing anything I wouldn't be comfortable with. I've been coming to Smitten for several years now and even though I moved to Rockville, MD a year ago, I still make the trek across the river to get my hair done here. And as long as Melia is at Smitten, I wouldn't have it any other way. I had my first consultation with Melia for extensions about a year ago. Extensions are a bit of an investment so you want to make sure you put your hair in the right hands. Melia is incredibly talented -- she's a master at color matching, installing, and blending the extensions. She's also extremely dedicated to her clients. She recently went out of her way to fix color another stylist did for me. The adjustment color is free, to fix the last appointment, but the stylist who originally did my color wasn't available. Melia fit me in for this free service (which wasn't hers to fix!!) because she didn't want me to wait weeks, unhappy with my hair. And she fixed the color beautifully! As her client, she wants me to look and feel my best, as well as get my money's worth. Melia is not only talented, but she offers unparalleled customer service. She's also a lot of fun and I love chatting and laughing with her. I had tape-in extensions for just under a year, and recently installed the one-step weft extensions. My real hair is healthier and even a bit thicker than when we started. I'm SO happy that I started seeing Melia. I love my extensions, love my color, and even love my own hair a bit more. I wish I could give more than 5 stars for Melia's talent, work ethic, and high-class service! read more

Went for root touch up. Was told roots may be slightly darker. Looked nice in the salon but they keep their lights very dim. Got home and it's like I have almost black roots with very light brown hair. I am trying anything to get it out without ruining my hair, and I have an event tomorrow. Needless to say I wish I'd just dealt with gray roots for the event and am not going back. read more

Edit: the last photo is work my usual stylist from a different salon does for me. This is how a full head of highlights is supposed to look. Unfortunately my usual stylist was out of town and I made the mistake of going to Smitten. The owners KNOW they messed up with my hair and that it looks terrible but they are too shameless and greedy to refund me. They literally charged me for work that was not completed. I found out that Melanie Kate is brand new. I specifically asked for somebody experienced when I booked. So they knowingly set me up for failure. Go to Smitten if you want to pay for them to train new stylists at your expense! I came in here on Thursday and paid $225 for a full head of highlights. The receptionist ensured that my booking would be with somebody experienced with blonde hair. The stylist, Melanie-Kate, spent half the time it has ever taken a stylist to give me a full head of highlights. My hair does not look any better than when I went in; in fact it looks worse. Entire sections of my hair were ignored and my roots are still in full force. Their manager claims that they don't provide refunds. I am moving out of the area so cannot have them do a "correction" (that's also a weak excuse for not taking responsibility for their stylists. I've already spent time on my weekend to come here, now I'm expected to spend even more time when it should have been done correctly from the beginning?) So they ruin people's hair and just don't take responsibility for it. If you're going to charge $225, you need to make sure that you can provide that level of service. Owner responded to my email by stating that I was 20 minutes late (seems to be her typical retort on here). Absolutely false. I was 5 minutes late and then waited 10-15 minutes on the couch to be greeted by my stylist. Checking CCTV footage would serve the owner well. read more

My friend told me about this place when I first moved to DC. Best salon I've ever been to. Samantha was amazing! Let's just say that I came in looking like a hot mess! I came in with pictures of what I wanted done, she assessed the current state of my hair, went over her plan with me, and not only met but exceeded my expectations. I can't stop running my fingers through my new hair, because for the first time in years, it's not a tangled, damaged mess!! I feel amazing, thank you read more

I've been going here for over 2 years now, not sure why I didn't write a review prior to this. I would describe this place as a modern salon with a cool interior design, very open, and good music playing. Not sure how I feel about the pink couches, but whatever. I don't go there for the furniture. My stylist is Ashley, and she's fantastic. She's very precise with her work, and pays attention to all the little details, which I greatly appreciate. She's extremely friendly and always makes sure I am 100% happy when I leave. But what impressed me the most was her first time cutting my hair. She was unsure about how to cut a section of my hair, which grows ruler straight, and if given the opportunity, will grow directly out of my head and look like a koosh ball if cut too short. So she actually asked another stylist (Michael?) for help. He came over, told her what he would do, and WHY, and then she executed it perfectly. There are far too many people unwilling to ask for help or say "I don't know." Ashley isn't one of them, fortunately. Which means that I got a great haircut and she got a for-life customer. Everyone at the salon has always been super friendly and professional, so you always feel welcomed. And props to the women who so the shampooing. It's, quite frankly, luxurious. It is my favorite part of the hair cut, and I'm actually surprised I haven't fallen asleep while they are massaging my scalp. Love it. read more

My review is a little overdue, but Moriah at Smitten is fantastic! I got my hair cut with her a week or two ago, & she was so friendly & did a great job. Originally, I called to schedule an appointment a couple weeks in advance, but they had an opening that night, so I took it! I was thankful that they were able to fit me in because I thought I would have to wait a while before they could see me. I'd never gotten my hair cut at a salon before that, but the experience was so great that I'll definitely be coming back to them in the future. I thought the cost was reasonable since the blow dry & shampoo are included with a cut, & they also followed COVID guidelines. I can't wait to go back, & I've enjoyed all of the compliments I've received, so far, on my hair! read more

Very disappointed with my hair color. I paid $200+ to dye my hair black and after a few days it went back to brown. There is not an inch of black anywhere. I was clear with the girl I wanted it black and I left the salon with black hair. But whatever was used didn't stay. Also, she disappeared when my hair was getting dyed another lady is the one that took me off the dryer and washed my hair taking off my makeup (not supposed to be a face wash). The only thing that was done correctly was the cut and style. That is the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one. So, come here for a cut go somewhere else for color it's overpriced temporary hair dye. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible, they had an issue w/ my mother and decided to go ahead and cancel my appointment. I am 20 years old , my mother recommended me to the salon , she is NOT the one paying for the service. They can't cancel my appointment without getting in touch with me first. Super unprofessional & childish. Once you get there you're greeted by a bunch of bitch white snobs up & downing you. When you go to a new salon you want to feel welcomed and comfortable.
