I just got my hair cut here today for the first time and absolutely had to write a review. To put it mildly -- I am thrilled! After two terrible haircuts in a row, I was scared to set foot in another salon. Well, my fears have been allayed, as I have found my salon and I have found my stylist. Michael, Michael, Michael -- where have you been all my life?? (Or at least as long as I've lived in Arlington.) You're funny and outgoing, and immediately made me feel welcome in the salon. You listened to what I wanted, made good suggestions, and the final result was a clean, stylish cut that I can't stop looking at. The other staff are great, too. The woman at the front desk smiled as I walked in, took my coat, and made me some green tea. The shampoo lady was similarly friendly. Take a chance on this place. You will not be disappointed. read more

Meredith is an angel and a hair styling goddess. She took me from long, natural dirty blond hair, to an icy white/platinum pixie. She always checks in during the process to make sure you're getting exactly what you want and are comfortable. Going to Smitten in general has been a great experience. Everyone seems very friendly and the booking is easy, though they do fill up pretty quickly especially if you're requesting someone specific. As a bonus, you get a little head massage when you're getting your hair washed. read more

I have been a client of The Smitten for over two years now. I usually do highlights, color and haircut with Michael. He has been wonderful. During the last year I was pregnant and he was able to make my hair look natural for the duration of my pregnancy. Now, im back to my blond! With all the changes, the color always looks great and my hair show no damage of any kind and always look beautiful and natural. I do have grey hair in front and he puts a different blend on those areas so the color doesn't fade. My hair always look superb when i leave the salon and they stay superb until the next appointment. The entire experience is very present. They offer a variety of drinks, including wine, which is great. As a busy working mom of four, i love to have a little time to relax and indulge. The staff are very friendly also. read more

I am new to the area and have had 3 bad experiences from salons in DC and Arlington before going to Smitten. I was beginning to think that there were no great stylists in DC. After reading the other reviews, I decided to give Smitten a shot because it's close to my house and I couldn't afford to fly home to the west coast (where I'm from) every time I need a quality cut and color. My experience was unexpectedly fantastic! Melanie did a wonderful job! And as a bonus, I received a free false eyelash application because my appointment fell on a Friday evening. It was perfect because I had a holiday party to attend that evening. Besides all of the other great aspects that I've listed, I also finally learned how to style my hair like a Victoria's Secret model, with large, loose waves. It was a dream come true! read more

For years, I have been saying I am going to cut my long (and perhaps too long?!) hair and donate it to the Locks of Love charity, but every time I get to the salon, I freak out and opt instead for my standard 2-3" trim. Until I went to Smitten.... I was immediately transfixed by the "cool" and "trendy" look and boutique vibe. It manages to be chic and polished, while still totally approachable. Major hair salon feng shui points! Then, I met, Alisha, my hair stylist. Her relaxed demeanor and confidence made me feel at ease immediately. Her skills and technique were unmatched--and being from Manhattan, I am not easy to please!! Alisha transformed me from drab to fab, with a chic cut that falls just above the shoulders and heavy bangs, a la Katie Holmes. Very fashion-forward, but easy to maintain and replicate on my own. LOVES IT. In short, Smitten is mah-jor! Highly recommend! read more

I have been going to Smitten for at least 6 years, and feel like I have found my haircut home for life. Lisa, who usually cuts my hair, is incredibly skilled. Just 2 days ago someone asked where I get my hair cut, because of the beautiful shape, and it has been 2 months since it was last done! It is always a pleasure to visit Lisa, a consummate professional, manager, and really good person. I've had other Smitten stylists cut my hair when she is not available, and have never been disappointed. All of the staff are excellent and a pleasure to interact with. read more

I have been trying to find a great salon since I moved to the area a year ago. I tried multiple different places but nothing ever seemed to amaze me. Smitten definitely did a wonderful job and I will be going back. I have been struggle with unhealthy hair and no matter what I do, nothing works. My stylist was able to recommend different products and masks to use, which have been working fabulously. I am working to get my hair to a certain length and color before my wedding, and my stylist was able to plan everything out so that I can reach that goal. I will be back in May!! read more

Ugh, terrible place. Don't let the beautifully made website fool you. Super small place, stylists that look like they just fell out of bed (and I had an evening appointment) and honestly the worst haircut I've ever had. Irene barely tried to conceal the fact that she thought I was too boring to have a conversation with, burnt me three times with the hair dryer, dropped the scissors twice. And worst of all she completely ruined my haircut. I had a great cut from a different salon and only needed some maintenance. Too much to ask as it turns out. It's weeks later now and I still look like a**. Randomly enough I talked to a friend about my terrible experience and turns out she went to the exact same place and hated it, too! I have no idea who the "happy" customers are who post here but if you have shorter hair that actually needs a good cut go elsewhere. read more

Worst customer service!!! I called two weeks ago to make a Keratin appointment. Was told on the phone that my appointment was confirmed. I even received an email from them showing me in the system as a first time customer. I figured everything was okay. I called the salon today to confirm the time of my appointment for tomorrow. The salon told me they did not have my appointment on file and lost the appointment spot because they did not have a card on file from me. I was never asked for my credit card information when I originally made the appointment. I asked when I can come in next, they told me mid-August was their next availability. Completely outrageous. I would recommend you do business elsewhere! read more

I went to Smitten for the first time yesterday for a much needed haircut and it's hands down the best salon I've been to. The inside is trendy but also relaxing, and so clean and bright. Su cut my hair and I loooove what she did. She even took the time to give me some styling tips and made product recommendations. I'm so happy with my hair. Definitely going back and would definitely recommend! read more

This review is long overdue. I went to Smitten after a horrible experience at another salon, and they were so accommodating with getting me in the door to fix my hair which was basically orange (when it should have been ombre). Lisa was my stylist and took great care in examining the color, and running her thoughts by another stylist to ensure that the new color was going to be perfect. And it was. I couldn't have been happier with the outcome. This is my salon for sure, and I can't recommend it to enough people. Thank you for providing such a great experience and service! read more

I was so excited when I booked my first appointment at Smitten. Melanie, the co-owner, has been cutting and coloring my hair for about 4 years. When she left her previous salon to launch this exciting new endeavor, it was a no-brainer for me to follow her to Smitten. Smitten is all that I expected it to be. It's trendy and comfortable. It's urban and welcoming. The employees are professional and friendly. This place has serious staying power. I already knew that I loved Melanie's work. Now I'm smitten with Smitten. read more

This place rocks! If you don't mind spending a good chunk of change for your haircut then Smitten is the place for you. The staff is incredibly friendly (even providing wine or beer for you and friends during your cut) Jana has been cutting my hair for about a year and is the best in the bizz. I've referred about 4-6 friends and they all keep coming back. Great establishment! read more

I have been coming to smitten for 9 years now and have loved every stylist I have seen! I recently has Rosemary and I lovvvve my highlights and cut.. she was very thorough and took her time with me!! :) read more

I wanted to get my hair styled because they hired a new stylist but then I found out they fired her before she even had a chance to cut my hair. I'll be recommending my friends and family go to another salon that isn't so cut throat and 'bitchy'. read more

When I first moved to DC, I spent several years commuting back to NY to get my hair colored because I could not find anyone who understands how I want my blonde hair (I'm definitely picky). I finally found Melanie Kate, who nails it every time! She's an expert with blondes and I highly recommend her! read more

Had a really fantastic experience with Liz, one of the senior stylists. I am very picky about my hair - always do extensive research before booking - and Smitten exceeded all my expectations. The price might be on the higher side, although most salons in nearby DC are much more expensive. But, the final result was outstanding. Liz took the time to walk me through what she recommended, but listened very carefully to what I wanted and made sure to explain what she was doing during each step. I did take her recommendations and was very happy. I will definitely be going back, and will recommend Liz to all my friends. read more

I am very impressed with Smitten! The salon is clean, comfortable, easy to get to, and the staff is super friendly. I have had two cuts and colors from Irene and she is amazing! She is very personable and has really improved the condition of my hair. I have been to several other salons in Arlington and my experience at Smitten with Irene is by far the best! read more

I find it easy to say good things about "Smitten." By comparison to their nearby competition, they are more courteous, more friendly, more skilled, more professional, and fairly priced. I can't say how their prices stack up for women, but on the men's side they are very competitive with other great haircuts. Too often, men err on the side of cheap, put up with poor service, and come out looking somewhere between "enh" and "ugh!" Smitten - on the other hand - always leaves me looking like a million bucks. Considering that I pay only $45 for that level of service, I'd say it's a good value. Unfortunately, things at their present location aren't perfect. First, this salon is too small for the amount of business they are getting. Six chairs might sound like enough, but I will venture a guess that the stylists are six of the very best within 50 miles of those chairs. With the long waits for appointments and the extremely tight appointments schedules (stylists often have one client in color while another is being cut, styled, or shampooed), the number of chairs could easily double and they would still be operating near capacity. Second, they book up WELL in advance. Evenings and weekends fill first - like any salon - but the staff is so short here that I think the lead time for a weekend midday appointment has to be measured in months. Tip: Make your appointment during a lunch hour and at least 4 weeks ahead. At 3 weeks out (my usual interval), I have only two or three 1-hour slots in an entire 7 day window from which to choose. Finally, the space within the salon is packed so tightly that customers and staff are constantly weaving around one another. This situation doesn't exactly ledn itself to a relaxing salon experience. The average man will find all the walkways too narrow, and the space somewhat claustrophobic. All that being said, the men's cuts here are still worth every single cent of the price. And THANK GOODNESS this salon will relocate soon (Oct 2014, tentatively) to a larger space with 10 chairs and a better layout. Once they do, I expect Smitten will rival the top salons in the DC metro. read more

This was my first time to Smitten and I was so so impressed! I have fine hair and I've had bad experience with layers before, but I was getting bored with the same straight cut. Sage made sure I was comfortable with the length and some layering and it turned out beautifully! The shampoo was also amazing. Will definitely be returning! read more

I had a great experience getting color done at Smitten! I came in with photos of what I wanted to get done and the stylist gave me what I was looking for. I also loved the fact that the hair washing women give you a full out head massage and wash, which was easily the best hair washing experience I have ever had. I love the design of this salon and the front desk staff was sweet. I'm giving it four stars instead of five for a few reasons. First, the stylist consulted with another stylist for awhile which made me nervous that she didn't know what to do. I also was there from 5:45 until almost 8pm which is an incredibly long time for color. I got a partial high/lowlights and a clear glaze for $115, which is on par with what I would expect to pay and want to pay for good color. I think their cuts are overpriced and would probably go somewhere else but their color is priced right. They could also drop the cut price when color is done like a lot of salons to make it more attractive to do cuts there. Overall, I would recommend Smitten for your hair care needs! read more

A friend recommended Smitten so I booked an appt. with Lynsey for a color. The salon is cool and laid back and the minute you walk in you feel comfortable. I was greeted, waited a few minutes and out came Lynsey. Adorable! We talked about what I wanted and she went to work. The shampoo chairs were GREAT. I mention this because they have a cool foot rest that comes out and up and you're semi reclining-so great. Most importantly, my color came out great. Lynsey blew dry it straight and it looked awesome. Very reasonably priced. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. It's in the middle of Clarendon so it's really convenient. I would definitely recommend it! read more

This is my update on the highlights: They look fantastic! At first she did highlights and low lights (she had to throw a few low lights in, otherwise it would be that all Blonde barbie hair/prostitute look). She finishes off with a glaze/toner that bumps up my base and blends the color. After about a year of that, I am over the base bump/toner because it looks too brassy when it grows in. The highlights are great though...hair is healthy, all one length again and very natural in color. The prices did go up a bit...so I was a bit disappointed. But you pay for quality and my hair looks great! On a final note, the salon has become VERY busy. You will need to book an appointment at least 3 weeks out. read more

I only have nice things to say about this salon! Lyndsey was my stylist and I will definitely being going back to her! I had such a lovely experience. She listened to what I wanted for my hair cut. She did a fabulous job, I was pleased with the results! While cutting my hair she was super friendly and genuinely took an interest in what I had to say. The only thing that took me by surprise is that the stylist doesn't wash your hair. They have separate people who do that. I was not prepared, and did not tip the shampoo lady bc I didn't have enough cash. I felt bad. Next time I'll give them something. I'm definitely going back!! read more

I've been going to Smitten for years now (since before they changed locations, however long ago that was), and I can't imagine going anywhere else. I'm a perfectionist with my hair, and Melanie has always delivered. Not only have my results been fantastic, but the in-salon experience has been great as well. Melanie is very pleasant to talk to, but also understands if you need to zone out or do work on your laptop while she sets your foils. And the women who shampoo your hair are wonderful too; they don't just wash your hair; they give you a scalp massage, and then wrap your hair in a hot towel while the conditioner sets. Smitten also has a beautifully decorated and immaculately clean facility. Because I found the holy grail of stylists and salons, I was a little nervous when Melanie was on maternity leave a couple of years ago, and then recently when she cut back on her hours. I was switched to another stylist, Michael. But let me tell you, Michael is fantastic as well, and I fully trust him with my hair. This speaks to the overall quality of the salon; everyone who works there does superlative work. I highly recommend them. read more

Alisha is incredible! You have to schedule well in advance because of how popular she is, but it is worth the wait. She is a red coloring expert, as well as highlighting, balayage, and perfect blow outs. When she was out on maternity leave I worked with Ashley instead and she was great as well for coloring. The shampoo head massages are always a highlight of the experience too. It isn't cheap, but it is definitely worth the cost - high quality hair care. read more

I've been going to Smitten for almost 6 years based on a friend's referral. Even when my original stylist left, I was put with another amazing one - Meredith. She helps bring life to my hair with every visit, and offers advice when I'm looking for inspiration. I love the products she uses too. read more

Poor customer service. Terrible experience with hair wash. Hair still felt dirty after wash. Salon is not open to feedback. Agree with other poor reviews on here. Think twice if you have thick hair. Poor COVID precautions. read more

I've only been here once, but Melanie was great. She took plenty of time to go through what I was looking for, how I traditionally get it cut, how I style it, etc. The woman that washed my hair did a good job, but nothing crazy unique or memorable. Melanie gave me exactly the cut I wanted, and was very personable. She spent time telling me about how she and her business partner came to start their salon and chatting about her time working at other salons. It was a very pleasant discussion. Their pricing was about par for the course for salons in the DC area - $80 or so. The space was really cute and well decorated, though parking can be a pain depending on when your appointment is - it's all street parking around that area. read more

By far the best place I've ever been to get my hair done. I went to Maria to get some highlights and she is one of the most positive, beautiful people I've ever met. My boyfriend also got his hair done here by Julia and she did and excellent job!! I will be coming back regularly! read more

I have been going to Melia ever since she started as an apprentice and she keeps getting better and better! She really takes the time to make sure you leave happy. She's able to give me what I want even when I'm unable to put it into words. I've never had a stylist that I've put all of my trust into until I met her. I really could go on for days about her. An added bonus is the shampoo experience! Such an amazing massage and so relaxing. The salon is in high demand for a reason. Love Smitten with all my heart! read more

I went to Smitten for full blonde highlights and to try tape in extensions for my first time. I needed them by a certain date and they were incredibly accommodating in fitting me into their schedule despite COVID and the holidays right around the corner. Moriah did my highlights and extensions and they came out amazing! I have had trouble finding a stylist in the DC area that does blonde well and I would highly recommend her to anyone. All staff at this salon were friendly and professional. I will definitely be returning. read more

Michael was fantastic and is a true pro. Asked for manageable layers and he did a beautiful job - I'm able to style it easily. #win definitely going back read more

Obsessed with my new hair!!!! Stephanie did such an incredible job nailing the color I wanted. All I can say is I am truly a hair snob...I use to manage salons for 4 years so I have seen a TON of stylists. Michael is one of the best I have ever seen! Seriously. He is great at communicating the whole way through, he is a very easy to talk to, he has a great sense of humor and he does some REALLY good hair. He can do it all, mens, color, cut, dry...EVERYTHING great. I would follow Michael anywhere and I have!!! GO SEE HIM NOW!! read more

I'm torn between writing this review and keeping Smitten Salon and Melanie to myself but they are too good to keep secret. I have had my share of horrible haircuts and failed attempt at bangs (not even the most prestigious salons in DC are safe - one such salon gave me a mullet even). And so I spent a long time finding a reputable salon with a stylist who could work with my hair and give me the haircut and style I've only dreamed of. I first went to Melanie when she was at Salon Blu and I chose her because reviews said she was a bangs expert. And she is! No one has been able to give me the perfect sideswept bangs I've desired like Melanie and she has also taught me how to style them myself which has revolutionized my hair styling. Finally I had the perfect sideswept bangs that I could maintain myself! When Melanie opened up Smitten with Lisa, I of course followed her. Smitten is in a great location and easy to get to by car or metro. The ambience is relaxed, welcoming, and trendy without feeling intimidating. And even though I've been going to Melanie for over a year, she gives the same amount of care and attention to my cut as she did the first time. I'm sure Melanie is a pro at many different styles, but if you're looking for long layers and the perfect sideswept bangs, look no further because Melanie is the best! I get compliments all the time on my cut and bangs, and I am so happy that my search for the right salon and stylist is at an end. Oh and while I am a Melanie devotee the other stylists there look like they do amazing jobs too. I have seen lots of people walking away happily with great haircuts. read more

This place is amazing. I followed my stylist Ashley from her last location to Smitten, and I'm very glad I did so. Not only is Ashley a great stylist, but Smitten itself is worth the experience. They bring you a drink while you wait (coffee, cappuccino, even wine); the shampooers do an amazing job and include a head massage (!), and the whole process is very friendly. I also highly recommend Ashley. She's great with my hair (very thick, has an attitude) and helped me transition over to bangs and to red hair from my natural blonde. Wonderful stylist and great to chat with while she's doing your hair :) The salon is a price above Ulta but seems commensurate with other high-end, non-chain salons. You also get a real bang for your buck, so I suggest giving it a try. read more

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about Smitten Salon and my awesome stylist Melanie. Working with my mane is not an easy task and Melanie knows exactly what it needs and when it needs it. A huge plus: The location is in Arlington and it is easy to get to, just off of 50, with ample parking. read more

Such an amazing experience at Smitten. Every employee that I encountered during my experience was exceptional. The design of the facility is rustic chic and even though they were very busy with clients, the facility was spotless. I highly recommend my stylist Meredith. She is so warm and friendly and really takes the time to consult with you and find out exactly what you're looking for. She gave me the exact color and cut that I was looking for, I will definitely be back! I have to give a special shout out to the assistants who really keep the facility clean and just take the customer experience to another level. Carina was my stylist's assistant and she was so accommodating throughout the entire service and gave me a wonderful scalp massage at the shampoo bowl. read more

OH.EM.GEE!!!!! I am absolutely thrilled with the cut and color I got from Liz at Smitten yesterday!!!
