BBQ can vary greatly from place to place. SCNB has true eastern North Carolina BBQ. it is always good. Covered in their own vinegar sauce I find it hard to beat. When we lived in Virginia SCNB was a definite stop while traveling in North Carolina. For many years we only ordered the bbq, until one year, my wife tried the fried chicken. OMG. They do chicken right. It reminds me of fried chicken when growing up. The seasoning is the best. Not hot and spicy but just gooood. Publix fried chicken comes close but SCNB always comes out on top. Next come the sides. The Brunswick stew tastes like the recipe is generations in the making. It is thick, meaty, and loaded with vegetables. This place had an old diner vibe when we walked in. We were greeted immediately and walked up to order. It's counter service and they bring it to your table if you're dining in. We made 2 trips during the week we were here. The first time I got the chicken and bbq plate, also came with fries and hush puppies and also Cole slaw. As a Florida native. My idea of bbq is different. I'm used to sweet and tangy sauce or a golden mustard sauce. Their sauces are vinegar based with a bit of tomato paste for color and red pepper flakes. I will say it's an acquired taste. It wasn't bad. Their fried chicken was really crispy and it was really juicy, hot and fresh. I also tried their banana pudding which was pretty good. Could have more cookies and add whipped cream, but that's my personal taste. My second trip on the advice of my boyfriend I got the bbq sandwich which you can get with Cole slaw on and then add their vinegar bbq sauce and that was WAY better!! The tangy and creamy together was great. I also go their 3 piece tender snack pack. Wow these tenders were enormous! I had to take them home. One was as big as my hand! Very good dinner - we ordered through Uber Eats and there was a a promotion of BOGO free! The fried chicken was very good, crispy but not greasy. The cold slaw was really good, not overly sweet. Came here the other night with a friend. We both ordered the bbq and chicken platter with two sides and sweet tea. Inside was clean, plenty of seating, and our food came out in great haste. Food was delicious and everything hit the spot. The service especially was a highlight and everyone was very lively and full of personalities. Loved every bit of it and it created a comfortable "home away from home" environment I can see folks wanting to return to. So we were in NC for a family wedding from Maryland and had to get some bbq. Smithfield's is the closest thing to my grandfather in laws. We wanted to get some pulled pork but were going to pass but I had looked up from my phone just in time to see this location and we walked out the door with $150 worth of meat lol. I can say is the food is tasteless and overpriced. The inside is clean; the employees are not very friendly and I'm sure the employee turnover is frequently changed. First visit here on 10/9/20. We went through their busy but fast drive thru. My son wanted their hotdog kid's meal, but the cashier said they don't serve hotdogs. Why is it on the ordering board then? Anyway, luckily he's not picky. Lol. He got a chicken strip kid's meal instead which was not listed on the order board. They were adhering to social distancing inside as well as in the drive thru. After paying at the window, I had to pull up to an orange cone to have my order brought out to me. The guy was really fast. I appreciated that. Our food was fresh. I ordered 2 chicken wings and shrimp basket. I didn't know the shrimp were popcorn shrimp. I expected for that price for them to be medium sized at least. Our food was fresh and very tasty though. Next time I will just order chicken. The shrimp costs too much for the small amount they give. The restaurant is nestled in a busy parking lot next to a gas station and Sonic. People can't drive, so be very careful. I love this place, every one of them. The bbq is great, I prefer the "red sauce" but they also have the traditional vinegar base. The hushpuppies are excellent. The tea is great. Just love it. If you dine in, staff will come and check on you and get you refills. That was a surprise to me the first time I went as it's more of a fast food restaurant. I visited today 2:13pm. As soon as I opened the door I noticed the very poor conditions of the dining room and the apparent lack of adequate staffing. The lady that usually cleans the dining room was busy doing other work behind the counter. There were about 5 tables in use and of all the other tables only 1 was clean. No napkins in the holders at more than half the tables. The floor looked as if it hadn't been mopped in a week. I ordered on Sunday by drive up. I ordered a combination white and was charged for one. I got home and it was a white plate. I called and they told me to return with the receipt. I asked for the manager and she was a pill. She was so rude. She was like you didn't have to call me up here anybody could have done this. I did also let her know I drove from Raleigh the first and second time. She just looked at me. The only good thing was that all the other staff we nice. They welcomed the customers and one lady working the front was so sweet. It was kind of like she was being more nicer because the manager was acting a donkey. And for some reason the floor was very slippery. So be careful if you go in. If I go there again I am definitely going to check my meal before I leave. I have been somewhat of a regular customer over the years to this location today I came in with my family. The lady who helped me at the front was very kind very respectful very nice very pleasant and she always is. She got our food and and everything out to us as fast as she could, which was under 10 minutes so good service. A little later on it did get busier. We were still eating, finishing everything up and a new younger tall, thin white guy in a white shirt who I have not seen there before and he probably didn't pay any attention to me or the other customers at the front counter, decided to be very rude and disrespectful to the lady who was running trays and who had taken our order when we first came in. She took the food to the table that it was going to and before she could even get back into the kitchen. This guy asked her if she knew the other tray went with that she said no nobody told her he told her very clearly and loud that she needed to read the receipts and that he could do her job in front better than she could, and she could either do it or go home now the same lady finished the other tray to the other table and got them their sauces that I assume they requested and then she wasn't there anymore so I'm hoping she left because for anyone to be blatantly disrespectful to another employee regardless of their position in my opinion, just creates a toxic work environment and what he doesn't know is he's the one who messed up on our order because he didn't read the order and she had to tell him that he was missing a plate he made a mistake which is what I'm assuming he got pissed off about and decided to tryessentially power trip on this young lady personally, I feel that he overstepped his boundaries and definitely owes an apology and I hope this young lady finds a much less hostile work environment. The food itself has not been up to it normally as it has been over the years it has gone downhill side items are very limited. There is nothing new, nothing special. It is the same old boring things that they had years ago.
