There's a real old time, small town nostalgia around this place, so if you grew up around Main St America, you'll likely love this place. They make a decent burger and fries for a great price. Sadly, they don't salt their fried or season the burger, so it's a bit plain unless you add chili or bacon. Also, burgers are not cooked to order. They pre-cook the patties and throw them back on the grille to reheat. Food comes out fast and hot tho, and like I said...cheap. Like so many others have said...bring cash. I've been going to this place since I was a teen so at least 20 years now. Boy how time flies but that's another story. This is a small no frills cash only neighborhood grill that always executes. It's the consistency for me, the fact that the burgers taste as good as they did back then and they still have the same type of crispy fries. They have a good thing going and it's been going for a while now. They have a variety of breakfast and lunch options. The only thing is they close at 2 or 3pm so there is only a small window of time when I can come get their yummy food. I enjoyed the double cheeseburger. However, I didn't appreciate seeing the servers touch the burgers and fries with bare hands. "Hands are not sterile. Pls be advised they do not take credit cards and there's no notification other than verbally after you order. That is their right, if you suggest otherwise you will get a whiff of Texas chainsaw after the old man behind you makes a joke about it and the staff and over half the customers in the restaurant has a laugh at your expense. I got double cheeseburgers, fries and apple pies. The burgers are pretty good for an old diner that has been there forever, meaty and the chili has lots of ketchup already in it. The fries had never seen salt, but they were basic nonetheless. The apple pie was good, I'm sure it was frozen prior to the fry basket, maybe I shoulda skipped the fries and just ate the burger and pie. Oh, and the lady who bagged my order was not wearing a mask. A trip back to the diners I grew up with including no Credit Cards. Growing up in a small town in Western North Carolina, our favorite places were places like you saw on Happy Days. Simple burgers and dogs with fountain drinks and milk shakes. This place reminds me of that except for the fountain drinks. Ever notice on Happy Days everything was cash and no credit or debit cards. Same here which is no problem. Coming back from the Outer Banks, we wanted to find a place for lunch that was convienent to US Hwy 64 but with good ratings. No menu publshed but this place scored very high so in a soaking downpour, decided to give them a try. It's a shotgun store which is basically one long but narrow space. You walk in and tables are on the right and the counter and kitchen is on the left. Place you orderr at the counter, pay and wait. May not sound good to some but I grew up with fried baloney sandwiches so i ordered two of them. They were great. My wife, a Pittsburgh girl ordered two grilled cheese sandwiches and an apple turnover which she loved. Service was good and friendly and it was a local favorite so you can see why it get high rating. Not in the area very often but would make a point of coming again if the occassion arises. read more

Went here saturday with the hubby. Standing room only. Make sure you have cash but does have an atm on site. We got burgers and fries. Burgers were AMAZING!!!!!! I had bacon added to mine and oh boy let me tell you they are not stingy with it. I should of got a single but got a double and didn't eat anything the rest of the day I was so full. I will definitely go back the next time we are In the area. So freaking good. read more

We were in downtown Wendell and looking for a place to eat lunch. We spotted this establishment, make sure you keep your eye out or you'll miss it for sure. They accept cash only. The dinning area is intimate and charming. They have four ladies working the counter. If you come in and the line is long, don't worry they know how to work the line down quickly. I found the food to be delicious; I had a double cheeseburger and fries. A fried of mine had two hot dogs and he really enjoyed them. If your in Wendell it's worth a look see and an eat in.
