I signed up with Pest Control because the home monitoring service is excellent. Big mistake. The service does not extend to Pest control. While the guy who came home did a good job, I didn't think the chemicals did the job. The outside spray was useless. I was told that because of the weather and uncontrolled condition they could not guarantee anything. This after the fact that I paid and signed up! Wish they had given me disclaimers earlier. Luckily I only signed for the quarterly treatment. I was especially annoyed after I called the service and t them that I am calling for outside pest issues but sales guy failed to mention that the treatment I signed up was only for interiors and guaranteed for 30 days only for the interiors. Needless to say, I am looking for another pest company. Disappointing service too as the manager never called me back and the sales person would not agree that the pest control service guidance was incorrect even after I challenged them to hear the recording of the call. Update: the manage Mark called and took care of the problem with a free treatment of what should originally have been done based on my problem. I am very happy that they lived up to their reputation and have been fair with me. read more

They are in time, clean and efficient, and their prices are the best. They don't force you to buy additional equipment of their own (other than a necessary $89 wireless uplink module if your alarm doesn't have one) and for $17 a month the national brands just can't compete. They provide the same service, they just don't spend the money on Superbowl ads or on fear-mongering commercials on the radio about how many times a house is broken into in your area. We had Smith Thompson security install a new system in May. We also paid for monitoring service. We went out of town on vacation and our neighbors called us to tell us that our alarm was going off. It was loud and noisy for several hours. We even have a cell phone back up installed in case our home phone wires are cut by an intruder. The monitoring service never contacted me, my husband or, anyone on our phone contact list. When I notified Smith Thompson I spoke to a Mark ( MGMT) said that I was lying and wanted to know who set off my alarm? Mark was extremely rude and does not know the meaning of GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I told him it did not matter who set off the alarm. THE BIG PROBLEM IS THAT NO ONE AT THE MONITORING SERVICE RESPONDED TO THE ALARM. We will certainly cancel our contract as soon as we return back home to Allen. read more

Outstanding home monitoring and dispatch! Service/repair side less than desirable! Friday morning at 7am I had a smoke/heat detector go off. Faulty unit, had to remove it myself to disable alarm. When removing a smoke heat detector from main system it disables the alarm. No way to bypass! I called tech department at 8 am Friday and explained my situation. They were not able to repair Friday, but scheduled Saturday. Got a call Saturday morning saying they had to cancel and they wanted to reschedule Monday. I told them that was unacceptable and that my security and fire alarm are presently disabled! You just can't bypass the fire alarm to activate security alarm. Left message for owners son, have not heard from him yet! They did reschedule for Monday. If I would have known that, I would have ordered dSC unit on Amazon and fixed it my self. I could understand if it was a security zone I could bypass, but the entire alarm system is disabled, including fire! They need to do a better job prioritizing! read more

I think they service is very cheap I got it and they never called me back when the alarm went off for over 3 months. They kept talling me that it was my problem. Finally, they come to my house to look at it after calling for 5 days and they said it got fixed. The alarm went off again that week and they still never called. I went with a bigger company who told me that the equipment Smith thompson used was very cheap and they monitoring is also very poor. i am sure now that cheapest isn't the best!!! read more

I've been a customer since March 2012 when I moved into my townhouse. Smith Thompson had great reviews on Angie's List and a special offer of a few months off for a year long contract. Set up was easy. It's a wireless system. I've had no problems setting and using the alarm system in year one. You must register your system with the City of Houston and pay an annual fee (we didn't have this fee up in Ohio - but I can see why police need to track all systems). If you own a townhouse with a rear yard door, I recommend asking for two Smith Thompson monitoring yard signs and sticking one by each door. This is a huge deterrent to thieves. Don't forget about doors other than the front one. read more

Horrible customer service, wasted all day waiting for their tech support. No call ahead, I had to call to make sure someone was still coming. Tech showed up 10 min before the 4 hours window ends, I was cleaning and didn't hear the bell-he left instantly. Within 5 minutes from the missed call, I called back and he didn't pick up, I left message asking him to come back since I waited all day for him-He said I need to reschedule because he waited for me for 20 minutes-which is impossible base on my missed call. Ridiculous! Never had an issue until this time. Ruined my day, I hope you can get better help Smith Thompson. I have been a customer with ST since 2017 and this incident had really ruin it for me. I'm giving them another try asking them to send me a different tech. If it still won't work out, I'll be switching to someone else. I am very frustrated working with Smith Thompson. A representative went to my home and agreed that I can buy an extra motion detector by myself so that I can save money. However, there was no any feedback from the representative as he promised in the next 4 days. So I called the company and was surprised to be told that my installation was denied since I would like to buy the equipment by myself, not from the company. I told the company that was not true. I was told again they are going to follow up the compliant. However, there is still no ANY feedback from Smith Thompson. What is wrong with this? They used the existing ADT equipment and it didn't cost us a thing. We saved money and loved how extremely responsive ST was. I spent alot of time looking at different security service providers in central Texas and after some consideration, decided on Smith Thompson. After years of working with large, impersonal companies like Brinks and ADT, it was a breath of fresh air to find a smaller, established, reputable company based out of Dallas that provided monitoring services for $16.95/mo (same rate since 1978). The sales guy was knowledgeable but not pushy. When I called back a couple of weeks later, the same guy picked up the phone. Beware of smith Thompson if they come out for service to fix an existing system they will automatically sign you up for monitoring service and if you don't disconnect by written notice they will continue to bill you forever. If you contact them and try to get them to adjust the bill for service you never wanted they will tell you that without sending written notice of cancellation they cannot do anything for you and the amount is still due! I apologize to the owner of the location and changed my rating, his staff was friendly and helpful, the install went well and they used mostly the existing equipment which saved me Money. My issue is with corporate who said a call was not sufficient and that written notice was required to end service. read more

Watch out for over-billing. They will quietly continue to monitor your home even if you're on a yearly plan...and then bill you for it. I view these companies as living off pennies from customers..."it states on the top right hand corner of every invoice..." He talked me through the equipment that I would need, tried to get me the best deal, and spent a lot of time going over how to arm and disarm the alarm and all the different settings. I've had Smith Thompson security for several years now. They replaced a system that was being monitored by ADT over my landline phone line, at $31.95/month. Their technician came out and replaced the main board in my (very old) system, reinstalled everything, added 3 new keypads, added a remote key fob, and most importantly, added a cell-phone based monitor for about... well, I've forgotten the total price but it surprised me how low it was, considering all the work he did. Their monitoring price is about $16.95/month, but I pay annually and actually get 12 months worth for 11 months of payment, so even better deal. When I've had a couple of accidental trips of the alarm, they've called as expected and took care of the trouble. Finally, to put them over the top, I called and asked to be allowed to install my own new keyfob that I got from Amazon. Instead of demanding a "truck roll" and a service fee, they helped me reset my system so I could install the new keyfob myself. At this point it was time to give them a full 5 stars here... what a great company! read more
