You just added a cellular transmitter and maybe my system was full of problem, but I don't understand why I was told that my system is really good and should not have any issue. Im not an expert in alarm system, that why we rely on you guys. However, you are completely wrong about the responsibility because we never believed that you are responsible for this and we did not blame your company. That's why we PAID for 7 sensors replacement since I trusted you guys and was told as long as I replace them my issues will be resolved. This would be so unfair to think it's your responsibility. I believe you connect pre-existing systems every day and have zero problems because Im hearing a lots of good thing about your company from my friends and family. That's why we decide to go with you guys. You are wrong again about the third party equipment (Im glad you guys recording the phone calls). We asked if we can purchase the wireless sensors online since they are much cheaper and you guys install, and your operator said no and they had a good reason for it since if something goes wrong you couldn't be liable for third party equipment which is totally understandable. About your other comment, we just purchased the house, so how we knew the system had a problem. Actually, the expectation from your company is to check the system and let the customer know if the system has problem so the customer could go with other option. If I knew my wiring has a problem, I could go with wireless from the beginning and not keep paying for wired sensor and still have issues. About the reviews, you are correct about the recording, we were so upset about the issues and the unprofessional way your staff acted, so we gave them the option of fixing the issues at no more cost to us(since they came twice and I paid two time to fixed the issues and neve resolved) or cancel the service and refund the money. I mentioned this in my original review. I also agree with you that this could be beyond repair, but your staff should've told me what you are telling me now. SO, IF IT WAS BEYOND REPAIR AS YOU JUST ADMITTED, THEN WHY THEY KEPT CHANGING MY SENSORS AND CHARGING ME FOR IT??? Would it be better, they just would tell me and we would not have to go through this. Once again, Im not upset with the issues we had. I've been a Smith-Thompson customer for over 15 years now and have really appreciated their service and pricing. Their installers are outstanding, prompt and professional. We've never had an issue with our system and it works when its supposed to. We've inadvertently set off the alarm and within a minute or two, they were on the phone checking to see if everything was okay. We've had other service providers who provide basically the same service for nearly double the price - makes absolutely no sense. We picked Smith Thompson for home security on our new home on Feb 2018. Their rates are very good. And they don't rely on WiFi for alerting the monitoring offsite. They install a cell-phone type device that calls them when an alarm is activated. The technician came on time and got the monitoring system installed within 40 minutes. You can pay $7 extra per month to use their app, HC Flex. The app is too basic and doesn't have touch ID. But it does let you activate and inactivate the alarm remotely. We set off the alarm by accident a few times. We get a call in about 2-4 minutes asking for our name and the password we selected to verify our identity. We are asked is it's a false alarm. If it is the police is called off. read more

What A.B., the other reviewer said is not correct. They DO have contracts, just not a contract that says you have to be with their service for "X" number of years. However, I did have to sign a contract that said that they will only be liable for 4 times my monthly fees. Since they charge $17 per month for their alarm monitoring service, then that means they can only be liable for $68. If they mess up and you get robbed, then they will only cough up $68. What Dr. Dan A. said is also incorrect. The tech who came to my house was very thorough, knowledgeable, professional, and most of all, honest. The tech called me and told me he was on his way 15 min before the scheduled time. He came in on time. He took off his shoes. This is very important because most techs refuse to take off their shoes and end up tracking dirt all over my carpet. I have to give them shoe booties. It shouldn't be my job to give techs shoe booties. They should either come prepared or take off their dirty shoes. This tech came in and automatically took off his shoes without my asking. Bret, the tech, also explained in detail how to use the alarm system. He checked all the doors and windows and did a complete security assessment of my house. Finally, I asked him about motion sensors and asked him how many I needed. He honestly answered, "They cost $129 each, but I'll try my best to intall them in such a way as to minimize the number of motion detectors that you'll need.." Most people these days will try to upsell you more stuff but he did not. I only just now signed up for their services, so I have no experience with their response times, but my neighbor says that they respond in just a couple minutes and that ADT takes a bit longer to respond. I used to have ADT and their service was responsive, too, in my experience, but ADT is a lot more expensive. ADT, last time I checked, charges $34 to $50 per month. read more

Although I have had nothing but good experiences with my previous two houses being monitored by Smith Thompson, I am very disappointed this time around. I moved into a house that seemed to have an excellent existing security system, with sensors on every single door and window, attic door, you name it and it had a sensor. The guy who came to our house said that the system was too old to use, so he was going to install a new system. I didn't pay attention to the details of the system which is my fault, but they only included 3 door sensors and 2 glass break detectors for like $300ish. That means I have several rooms with no protection. The other problem is that they installed the system in the garage (on the wall facing the alley), and the garage itself is not protected. So if someone drove by while my garage door was open and saw the system (it's very obvious from all the flashing/blinking lights on the uplink), they could disable the whole thing and break in later. Or if they could figure out a way to get into my garage they could unplug the whole thing. Smith Thompson is definitely the cheapest in town and I would use them again only if they could figure out a way to use the system in my house. Otherwise it's not worth the savings if your house is not fully protected. After my term is up, I plan on starting all over with a new installation through another company that specializes more in new installs. The other companies are a lot more expensive per month but offer a free installation that protects your WHOLE HOUSE!!! read more

I signed up with Pest Control because the home monitoring service is excellent. Big mistake. The service does not extend to Pest control. While the guy who came home did a good job, I didn't think the chemicals did the job. The outside spray was useless. I was told that because of the weather and uncontrolled condition they could not guarantee anything. This after the fact that I paid and signed up! Wish they had given me disclaimers earlier. Luckily I only signed for the quarterly treatment. I was especially annoyed after I called the service and t them that I am calling for outside pest issues but sales guy failed to mention that the treatment I signed up was only for interiors and guaranteed for 30 days only for the interiors. Needless to say, I am looking for another pest company. Disappointing service too as the manager never called me back and the sales person would not agree that the pest control service guidance was incorrect even after I challenged them to hear the recording of the call. Update: the manage Mark called and took care of the problem with a free treatment of what should originally have been done based on my problem. I am very happy that they lived up to their reputation and have been fair with me. read more

They don't force you to buy additional equipment of their own (other than a necessary $89 wireless uplink module if your alarm doesn't have one) and for $17 a month the national brands just can't compete. We had used ADT for years. I had paid a small fortune for all the new sensors they installed after the old hard wiring became brittle and could not be replaced but their monthly monitoring fee of nearly $50 (after my discounts) was just too much. When I started looking around, I discovered Smith Thompson and the do the same thing for much less. Better than that is they answer their phones quickly. I'm very satisfied with Smith Thompson. Their prices both for equipment and monthly monitoring were far lower than those offered by any other company in Austin with decent reviews. We had never used the landline based DSC system since buying our house, and the system was 18 years old, so the hardware needed to be completely replaced (motherboard, battery, and metal enclosure. Smith Thompson provided all of this at no charge (including one free touch screen keypad)! The only required charges were exactly what I was quoted on the phone: $49 for adding the wireless communicator (a special reduced price to help them get more customers in the Austin area) and $39 for a second touchscreen keypad. We opted for the system that allows us to control and monitor our system from our smart phones or computer. This method has a slightly higher monthly charge, but were assured that we can later downgrade to the basic wireless system in the future with the lower monthly charge. It's great not to have a long-term contract. But Smith Thompson offers 1 free month if you pay in full for the other 11 months, so we took advantage of that extra discount. We can still cancel before the year is up and would be refunded any unused charges. Based on our current satisfaction, I doubt we'll be canceling early. The technician, Steve Fedler, was very courteous and professional. He called us when he was on his way for the installation appointment and arrived on time. He took the time to explain different security coverage options and definitely did not try to sell us options we didn't need or want. He completed the basic installation very quickly, but needed to order some parts to replace many old sensors that were not working. Steve got the parts the next day and came back, at the promised time the same day, to install them. He did the work quickly but carefully. Within the first 2 weeks of having a functional security system, I inadvertently triggered an alarm late one night. Within a minute of turning off the siren, I got a call from Smith Thompson asking for relevant information to verify they did not need to dispatch the police. I also received an immediate text message alerting me of a possible emergency and which zone caused the alarm. So, now I have verified the reliability of the hardware, software, and the monitoring service. Can't ask for more. read more

We have been extremely happy with our service from Smith Thompson. Our last monitoring company 'suddenly closed' and we had 2 weeks to find new service. I stumbled onto Smith Thompson. They were new to Austin. Their prices are incredible. We've had them for over 2 years now. The service tech came and in just reconfigured everything to ST (no new installs). We like that it is wireless - we were we able to get rid of our LAN line. Anytime we accidentally set off the alarm, ST calls extremely fast. We have had zero issues with ST in our 2 years. An update. Last night, it got really hot inside the bed room, woke up all sweating around 3 in the morning. Didn't wanted to turn on the A/C for just one room, so pulled up the window forgetting the fact the alarm was enabled. Immediately it went OFF and I ran downstairs to turn it OFF. After that, I ran back upstairs since I knew dispatch will be calling me. Got back in my room and picked up the phone and there was a miss call from Smith Thompson, may be less than 15 seconds after the alarm went off. Had to call them and cancel the dispatch. That was IMPRESSIVE. Thought I would update my previous review and bump up the ratings from 1 to 3. read more

We recently moved from Carrollton TX to Plano TX. A month later, the city of Carrollton want Smith Thompson to show a proof stating we had transferred our service from Carrollton to Plano so we don't have to pay the alarm permit. We called Smith Thompson and were told by both the guy on the phone and the manager saying they don't give the proof and that is the company policy NOT to give the city proof. Yes they are cheap in price but as my dad always said " you get what you pay for". I have had problems with false alarms since the install of my system. They came out and told me that my glass breaks were too sensitive so they turned them down( i.e. off). I have since had another false alarm. When I called in to ask if they could turn off the alarm remotely I first spoke to some lady who was very rude and could not answer my questions. She said she was transferring me to the tech support dept. but I was on hold for over 20 minutes. A man, Ryan Thompson, then picked up the call and was even more rude than the first lady. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he told me he owned the company. He told me that he was all I was going to be able to talk too. I asked him to transfer me to tech support and was again put on hold for over 20 minutes. I called from another phone only to get Ryan Thompson again who preceded to laugh at me and ask me what my problem was. He told me that he would take a message for the owner but he did not think he would ever call me back( laughing again). He even offered to connect me with billing to disconnect my account. What company does this to an existing customer! I finally talked to Phillip in tech support who was very nice and answered all my questions. The only good thing about this encounter. So the moral of this story is to be that cheap they have to sacrifice somewhere and apparently it is in their customer service. Sorry excuse for customer service and "owner". TOTALLY AMAZED AT THE LOW LEVELS PEOPLE GO TO. Within 2 hours of posting the above critique of their customer service the president of the company, Mark Thompson, called me and told me that since I wrote a negative review of their company they were immediately cancelling my service and they would no longer be monitoring my home. He did not want to talk about it "his mind was made up". I am a customer that paid a year in advance and only called customer service twice because OF A PROBLEM WITH MY SYSTEM and to be treated that way just proves to me I would not want to do business with them anymore regardless. Outstanding home monitoring and dispatch! Service/repair side less than desirable! Friday morning at 7am I had a smoke/heat detector go off. Faulty unit, had to remove it myself to disable alarm. When removing a smoke heat detector from main system it disables the alarm. No way to bypass! I called tech department at 8 am Friday and explained my situation. They were not able to repair Friday, but scheduled Saturday. Got a call Saturday morning saying they had to cancel and they wanted to reschedule Monday. I told them that was unacceptable and that my security and fire alarm are presently disabled! You just can't bypass the fire alarm to activate security alarm. Left message for owners son, have not heard from him yet! They did reschedule for Monday. If I would have known that, I would have ordered dSC unit on Amazon and fixed it my self. I could understand if it was a security zone I could bypass, but the entire alarm system is disabled, including fire! They need to do a better job prioritizing! read more

I installed their service AND REPLACED THEM WITHIN A 2 WEEK PERIOD. It would have been one week however , I was on vacation at the time. The owner is OBNOXIOUS and NOT TRUST WORTHY. I did not trust him to handle my home security. He was is RUDE and has a lot of mouth. (THE MENTALITY OF THOSE I AM TRYING TO KEEP OUT!!!!!!) Besides PROMISING SERVICES HE COULD NOT DELIVER he additionally told me he would snatch it out right now! Because I questioned the capabilities that his very own people said did not exist !!! Yet he claimed it did. When I asked him if I could speak after hearing him go on and on for 5 minutes. I was told "hurry up I'm tired and want to go to bed" Mind you they called me with a false alarm while on vacation! Day 1 after returning from vacation I called another company. Day 2 they installed the service and I canceled his. They are not the best game in town trust me. Look around. I heard about this service from my coworkers who gave it nothing but praise. Having just moved into a new home that was already pre-wired (windows/doors and two control panels) made thing easier for the tech. 1. The technician was on-time and called 25 minutes prior to the installation time saying he would be here on-time and he was. 2. He took off his shoes, put on his protective 'socks etc'. 3. Checked each door for proper alarm activation. 4. After he mounted the 4G radio (glorified text gadget that sends a "text to the control center" indicating an alarm condition, he cleaned up the small the sheet rock crumbs from mounting the 4G Radio to the wall.. 5. Informed me that he didn't have the FOB/Remote to activate the alarm remotely/walk out but that he would put in the work order a request for someone to come out (at no charge) to provide them to me. 6. He found one patio door that was not alarming (for his system check) and he proceeded to correct the issue by applying/aligning a new magnet at the correct location on the door compared to the one originally installed in the house. So this person did his quality checks to ensure each and every door and first floor window would alarm upon being opened with tn the system was activated. He was very knowledgeable as I had asked him about motion sensors in the likely event we get a dog and he then proceeded to explain how it would be connected and very extensively explained to myself and the wife the use of the alarm touchpad/keypad. I paid the year off and also got my Angies List discount. I went with a wireless alarm solution as I can easily see how a thief would sabotage a wired connection with the cables outside the wall of the house and on top of that, I have Time Warner Internet and VoIP Phone Service. All in all I am VERY pleased as I am getting exactly what I wanted. An alarm system that is wireless and I with options (Wireless Motion Sensor and Glass Breakage Sensor) and the entire install process was easy, clean and on-time at a GREAT PRICE. I walked around my new neighborhood and saw quite a few other houses with Smith Thompson Wireless Security so we must be in good company. Matter of fact, I just got in the US Mail, with a cash back offer of $200 from ADT with and pay the $99 install with a $43/month for 36 month commitment... You do the math and that is a wired/phone line solution + all the other stuff. The Smith Thompson Security Solution, to me, is a value priced burglary deterrent and monitoring system that is wireless and doesn't give the outside intruders a chance to deactivate the alarm system and it's ability to notify the monitoring center which is important to me. So far, I am happy with the system and the technician for his honesty, and cleanliness during the installation and then, for verifying his work and the system operation making us feel better about our new alarm/monitoring system. The Worst Alarm Company Ever! So, we're on spring break vacation, and get a call saying our alarm system is going off. Would we like them to dispatch the police? Yes, we would. Then a call 20 minutes later, they can't find the alarm permit number that we certified mailed to them three years ago (yes we have proof) so the city won't dispatch police. What can we do, we ask? Can the city look up our permit number? Can we give it to you over the phone? NOPE, must have the certified copy on file. You mean that one we certified mailed three years ago? Might have been helpful to know you did not have it on file? Mind you, we are 10 hours away at the time. No, you can mail a certified copy (Yeah, that didn't work the first time) or just call 911 yourselves. Well, I'm in a different city, I can't call 911 from here, can you do anything to help? Nope, hang up. My alarm company, whose only job it is is to protect my home, HUNG UP on me. They could CARE LESS about your stuff, I called back and talked to a supervisor, who was the rudest, most unhelpful person I have ever spoken to in the world. And obviously uneducated and could care less about customer service. My husband is an attorney, and we will be suing them because we have the certified copy showing alarm permit was delivered to them. DO NOT choose them! You will regret it like we do! However, there was no any feedback from the representative as he promised in the next 4 days. Horrible customer service, wasted all day waiting for their tech support. No call ahead, I had to call to make sure someone was still coming. Tech showed up 10 min before the 4 hours window ends, I was cleaning and didn't hear the bell-he left instantly. Within 5 minutes from the missed call, I called back and he didn't pick up, I left message asking him to come back since I waited all day for him-He said I need to reschedule because he waited for me for 20 minutes-which is impossible base on my missed call. Ridiculous! Never had an issue until this time. Ruined my day, I hope you can get better help Smith Thompson. I have been a customer with ST since 2017 and this incident had really ruin it for me. I'm giving them another try asking them to send me a different tech. If it still won't work out, I'll be switching to someone else.
