Not sure why the staff and kitchen fell flat on Valentine's Day, 2-14-16. Our small party of 6 waited for our food, any food, from 7:00 pm to 8:25 pm. It was intolerable to watch other parties come, eat, and leave during that time! None of us wanted to embarrass our young host (at our table) by complaining to the waiter. This was a very special event as he was taking his parents out to dinner for their 40th wedding anniversary; we had driven for 3 hours to attend and made it on time for our reservations.
I finally left the table and searched for any waiter, asking if he's seen our waiter, is he even on the premises? When the owner/manager (?) came by, John, he asked from which menu we ordered. I felt like asking him, "What difference would that possibly make after 1.5 hours of waiting?" We did not order from their 6-course Valentine Dinner, which had a choice of entrees. We ordered from the Valentine's al la carte menu.
I told John, in front of the table, that we have watched other parties come and go in the last one and a half hours of sitting here, "Could we at least have our salads?"
Soon the starters came, but we sent the muscles back because the dish wasn't even warm, the fat had started to coagulate.
After I ate the salad (also obviously sitting on a table in the kitchen for some time), I felt better and was able to relax. The chairs were horrible, with ugly puncture holes in the cheap vinyl. You'd think at these prices they could afford to replace some of these metal stacking chairs - come on!
At the end, it did not help to have John (owner/manager?) come to our table and stand over my head, behind my chair, making excuses for the kitchen and staff, "We were so busy! We got behind early in the day and never recovered."
Are we so familiar (having sat here for 3 hours) that we should just take it on the shoulder? And, why did he stand behind and over my chair like I was not in it? I was an alien with two vertically aligned heads! If I could PEZ my head, exposing my nostrils to everyone at the table, I would have told him: "Psst, down here... Listen, you took reservations for Valentine's dinner, you presumably knew how many customers you would have so we really don't need to take our time, listening to excuses."
And, by the way, "What's with your seating our small party of 6 twice?" When we arrived, the hostess (John's wife?) made half of our party wait at the entrance while they created another table: Imagine our surprise when we look over and watch the rest of us being seated at a newly created table in the same room. Good grief! I will spare you details on the food, i.e., the rib-eye cooked perfectly, but with so much gristle that it was impossible to eat a complete bite, or the mushrooms that were drizzled with balsamic vinegar when they should have been cooked with the balsamic vinegar - that it how it is correctly done. read more
