I'm sorry that I'm unable to assign a rating, at this time. I took my grandmother's chime clock to Smith Clock Company in early October. David seemed most capable, with a firm grasp on, and appreciation for all kinds of clocks. Given the number of time pieces in his shop, I had to assume that he was a "go to," source for clock repair. I had to be out of town for a few days, in late October, and left him a message to that effect, if he tried to contact me. I had no message, on my return, and called him a couple of weeks later ... early November. He gave me a (fair) estimate, and indicated that it would be another couple of weeks. To date ... Dec. 1 ... I have heard nothing. I just called the number online, which transfers to a different number, where the "mailbox is full." I want my clock ... or to find out specifics on its progress in his care! Brought a family grandfather clock in as I had just had the motor replaced but the hands kept stalling. David replaced the hands, recessed the motor correctly so it would not hit the glass and replaced a missing nut. $12 and some entertaining conversation later it was better than new. I can't say enough good things about Smith Clock. David is extremely knowledgeable, professional - and also really fun to talk to. I had my great grandfather's grandfather clock shipped out to CA from NY. I called Smith Clock and got David on the phone immediately. David made a housecall at 8:30am on a Sunday morning and helped unpack the clock from the crate it was in and he and I moved it piece by piece into my living room. We discovered some minor damage to the chiming rods and the hammers, but David was able to bend everything back into place, lubricate the clock, reattach the pendulum and weights and in under two hours had this wonderful old clock ticking and chiming like new. Frankly, if I could give zero stars I would. I called Smith and asked if he could re-wire an old 1950's digital clock for me. After sending him photos of it, he said he would get back to me as to whether he could help or not. After several days of silence from him, I texted him again, asking for his opinion. Silence again. If he was unable to help, I would've understood, but blowing me off as he did was inexcusable. I have more than one clock that needs regular maintenance, including an old cuckoo clock. When my loved Howard Miller triple chime weight driven grandfathers clock went nuts I was disappointed my trusted repair person down the Peninsula had retired. One clock repair shop recommended by Howard Miller told me it would cost at least $350 without even looking at it. Another told me $450 without even looking at it. Even Howard Miller thought that was suspect. David Smith came out and took a look on Friday. He estimated the cost at far, far, less. He took all the internal workings and said I'd hear from him by the following Wednesday. He called me on Monday and the clock was done. He came and reinstalled it on Tuesday and it works perfect. I can not recommend him highly enough. He was worth every penny. While he was quick to get the job done he was not quick to take my money. I gave him my credit card info and it still took him two days to charge my account. Unlike every clock repair I called this guy was not after my money like the others.
