I can't begin to say enough wonderful things about Dr Kumar and his staff. First off, my picture on my chart should be a chicken, because I am just that when it comes to going to the dentist. I have HUGE anxiety and a fear of going to the dentist because of past experiences. They went above and beyond making sure that I felt nothing and asked me often if I was okay. I had to have two crowns and a filling and was there for a few hours for the prep. They made me feel that they understood my fears and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. I went in this morning to have my perm. crowns put on and everything fits like a glove. I have found my forever dentist! The staff is all amazing, and have a very kind nature to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Thank you so very much for understanding my fears and putting me at ease. Don't go here. This place is unprofessional and lacks humanity. The kindness stops at the front desk. I came for a cracked tooth and to possibly establish a new dentist. It's been 2 and a half years since I saw my regular dentist. (I moved) When I finished filing out the forms, I was waiting on the receptionist to give me the Hippa to read when a girl in tech uniform comes out and says, "I'm taking her to the back." Didn't say hello or even ask my name. (clearly they don't get a lot of clients ). She then started taking x-rays. I've had enough x-rays done to know that there's more effort to it than what she was putting in. It was clear she didn't know what she was doing. She kept taking repeat shots and exposing me to unnecessary radiation. On top of that, she wasn't friendly. I thought, "How did she get hired?" Then the dentist comes over to view the X-rays. Didn't acknowledge me at all. They spoke among themselves as if I wasn't in the room. The dentist then briefly says hello and looks into my mouth. He then takes a phone call and walks off. After a minute I heard whispers behind me. I turned around and It was the tech girl whispering to the another tech giggling. They dispersed like insects when she saw me turn around. She then goes back to her computer and tried playing it off saying "the computer's acting up". I got up and walked out to the front and told the receptionist to please have them delete my x-rays. While on the phone, the dentist says "you can't delete them." I ignored him and kept talking to the receptionist who was actually trying to LISTEN to what I was saying. I told her that I came to the wrong place. This is a very unprofessional establishment. She was the only one who apologized for how they treated me while the dentist just watched. read more

I came in today after sometime of neglecting my oral Health and staff was so friendly as soon as i walked in i was greeted and staff was understanding while taking X-rays i was a little nervous the doctor came in and asked if I had any major concerns. I have had the worst experience with this dentist office. I had a crown put in by Dr Kumar a year ago and it has caused me nothing but pain. They have called me back into there office 3 times saying they were going to correct it. They called me yesterday and asked me to come in for a root canal so here I was in the dentist waiting one hour for the Dr to come in and say, we can't correct this here, you need to be referred to a different office. The Dr does not care about his patients. He only cares about the insurance and what he will get paid. I feel bad for the office staff because they are so nice and so caring but their Dr truly sucks. Dr. Sunjay is kind and patient. He takes his time explaining your current situation and your options. Dr. Sunjay allows time for you to process the information and will repeat if he feels an important point needs emphasis. The other staff in the Manteca location don't do their work with the same level of quality. They don't explain themselves much unless you ask questions. The front desk staff rush and interrupts you in every conversation. The Pleasanton location staff are kind and patient all around. Overall, we will continue coming to Dr. Sunjay. All of the negative reviews are completely true and exactly what I went through. I decided to give this place a try... definitely not worth it. The dentist has the worst attitude. He truly doesn't care at all about the people that go in there. I haven't had insurance in forever, so I have numerous dental issues - one of them being a cracked tooth that's infected. They take x days, and then He comes in, tells me "you have an infection" so I start to ask him some questions and he literally walks away while I'm talking. Then he says "open your mouth", literally looks in my mouth for 2 seconds (doesn't even recline my chair down) and walks away again. Then I'm told that's it, go to the front and they tell me it'll cost 14k to get everything done, but that they'll call my insurance to see what could be covered. They send me off - I ask for antibiotics for the infection... the doctor says no. They say they'll call me in 2 days to let me know what's covered and set an appointment. Here I am 2 weeks later and nothing at all. No call back, nothing. This dentist has zero problem sending people off with no antibiotics, nothing, even if they are in pain. Then they just never call back. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE read more

TERRIBLE I SPENT 2.5 HOURS SITTING, WAITING in dental chair. Dentist Kumar only spent two minutes speaking with me. A dental assistant let me know another 30 minutes until I receive a basic dental cleaning. There are 5-10 rooms in back half of them filled with patients with only one dentist on staff as confirmed by receptionist. She let me know these are normal wait times. My patience ran out I got up and left the very dissatisfying experience with no dental cleaning. I will never return here. I strongly recommend that you AVOID THIS DENTIST unless you bring fully charged iPhone with large battery and patience to wait 2.5 hours for service to begin. You will need to REQUEST FULL DAY OFF FROM WORK. There are many better dentists in the area to be found I know now. read more

It was my first time coming to this place and I was beyond amazed. The customer service was 10/10. The paperwork was a breeze, I wasn't overloaded w papers to fill out. The wait time didnt take long at all. I was in & out within a hour. The dental assistant let me watch Netflix on their TV & let me select whatever show I wanted to watch so I thought that was pretty nice of them. The doctor was also nice & he explained everything to me very good. It's hard to find nice dental offices that accept medical. This place will be my go to dental office for now on. read more

Had a tooth that was causing me a lot of pain. Had problems with another major dentist company getting my tooth pulled. Went to smile designs dentistry. Wonderful experience the staff is outstanding as well as the dentist. Walked in and walked out 45 minutes later with my tooth out and feeling much better. If I could give no stars as a review, I absolutely would. First of all, the dentist barely spoke to me from the time I was in the chair to the time I left the office. Second, he told me that I need a root canal and that my denti-cal would only cover 1/3 of the cost. Next, he said it had to be pre-approved by the insurance and that I would also have to be referred elsewhere because he does not do root canals in his office. When I was done, i didn't know if I was supposed to just leave or if they needed anything else, the receptionist didn't even acknowledge that I was standing in front of her for like 5 minutes even after I said something. This I think was in June. It is now October.. so I called denti-cal and asked about the status of the preapproval and they told me THERE WASNT ONE. next, they told me that ROOT CANALS ARE COVERED (upon approval), just the crown is not but that I could get a temporary crown that IS covered until I could afford a permanent one. I am currently in a dentist chair at Western Dental who took about a thousand x-rays and was told I DO NOT need a root canal. it is a cracked filling and guess what? FILLINGS ARE AUTOMATICALLY COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. I could have gotten this problem taken care of MONTHS ago and would be rid of the pain I've been in for over a year. read more

Wife enjoyed her visit so much here on tuesday that now we are bring both of our kids. A few months ago my wife's old dentist tried to take us to the cleaner with an estimate of $6,000 for two crowns and a deep cleaning. So we decided to get second opinion and came here. The insurance would not cover a second appointment and xrays so they waved the fees which was amazing. The new estimate from these guys who are totally honest on the work to be done is $2,100. And his staff are beyond trustworthy. They are friendly, caring, respectful, and they truly want to help you. Dr. S. explains EVERYTHING! Which I love considering I know nothing about dentistry. I recently had minor issue with teeth I was able to get next day appointment ( staff called me back same day after patient cancellation). Have been to many dentistry but I would like specially mention reason being Dr. Sanjay before he started treatment explained problems and I have never seen any doctor feeling about my problem as his own and explaining what needs to be done to fix. Staff also explained about what is covered in my insurance plan how much I'll need to pay I really liked overall experience. The office also seemed brand new very clean and loads of equipment. My issue with Doctor Kumar is that his work turned out to be less than acceptable. When he placed the new bridge into my mouth, the bite was not right, so after many grindings, it finally did fit. The problem with all that grinding, was a weakened structure that broke six months later and now Doctor Kumar will not responded to any inquiries for an adjustment, so I am writing to the Dental Board of California a fomral complaint. read more

Worst dentist ever! I've been there a few times because that was the only place that I found with my insurance. A dentist doesn't care about his patients, sends patients out with infections and no antibiotics, doesn't know how to fix for partials or caps, and it's just not a caring dentist. I was told I had a really bad infection under my cab, he told me I had to see someone else and then had no referrals. In addition, he didn't even prescribed antibiotics!! Who does that? Wouldn't even clean my teeth because he said he didn't want to get near the area??? I found a better dentist who immediately took care of the problems , and gave me antibiotics!! If you don't care about the Dentistry you receive or about your overall health, then go. My advice is to take care of yourself and go somewhere where they can help you! After, reading their reviews I decided to go here and didn't get what I was hoping for. The receptionist up front didn't seem to be having a good day on the time i visited. Nor was she friendly, but the young lady in the back was incredibly nice. The dentist seemed nice but I felt that he was kind of making up numbers when asked about pricing. If not that, then his response was to call back when his receptionist Erica was back in the office. When I would call she was either too busy or never called me back after leaving voicemails. Not what I expected from this place. They have poor customer service and they don't seem to care too much about the potential patients. read more

Ever since I moved to tri-valley, I have been visiting Dr. Sanjay's clinic with my family for all our dental needs. My kids feel at home for they get to watch their favorite shows on TV while Dr. Sanjay performs the procedure. They hardly have any pain. To share my recent experience; I had an RCT which I got done elsewhere about a decade back. It somehow got fractured. I was in severe pain. I was able to get that appointment within a day. It was later deemed that the tooth can't be saved for it had fractured in several places. Dr. Sanjay handled this complicated case really well. I will be going back to him for an implant soon. I totally recommend Smile Design Dentistry. Very well equipped office with great interiors. read more

Update! Yesterday I took the plunge and got Veneers so I can finally have a smile that I love. I still can't say enough about my appreciation and happiness with their care! Dr Kumar is really incredible. I have anxiety with anything related to dentistry and he makes me feel so comfortable and calm. I never thought I would actually love my smile. They mold the veneers right next door and though I didn't remember his name, the guy was really awesome. He matched the color perfectly and my teeth look so natural. Both he and Dr Kumar gave recommendations on changes and helped me to shape them in the best way. He, again, helped my TMJ by taking breaks when I needed and letting me use a bite block when my jaw got too sore and tired. He never seemed rushed even though I know his practice was very busy that day. He took his time to make sure everything was perfect. I will always recommend his practice! read more

Went here for a crown, and FOUR visits later and 6 weeks (average time for a root canal is 2-3 weeks max) later, he had managed to chisel away the enamel that was left of the original tooth (previous cap had fallen off) and claimed that there wasn't any tooth to begin with.
