However, Dr. Opinga and the staff at Bethel Kids Dental are PHENOMENAL. We put off taking her to the dentist because of her sensory issues but once she started forming a small cavity between her two front teeth, we knew it was time to come in. Handy dandy Yelp to the rescue and Bethel Kids Dental had rave reviews. I'm so glad we chose Bethel for my daughters dental needs. When you arrive, you check-in by writing the patient's name on a clip board and wait to be called back. My daughter loves how colorful the office is and they have plenty of activities, play toys and entertainment in the corner of their lobby for the kids to play in while waiting for their name to be called. Dr. Opinga and staff were so incredibly kind and understanding of my daughter's limitations. They were very gentle and sweet with her and assured my husband and I that they will try everything without forcing her to do anything she wasn't comfortable with so that she builds a bond and doesn't leave the office visit traumatized. Each staff member we encountered were very understanding and sweet to my daughter. I really loved how each dentist chair is in it's own enclosed area so it gives my daughter a space to feel safe. They even offered to put on Word Party, my daughter's favorite Netflix show. Overall the experience with Bethel Kids Dental was fantastic. If you're a parent with a neurodivergent child and you're nervous about how they'll react and be treated at the dentist, look no further than Bethel Kids! They're incredibly patient, friendly and understanding. Ensuring the visit is an excellent experience for the entire family. This last visit my husband waited 1 hr and 15 minutes. Two out of the three visits felt completely pointless. The doctor said there was nothing wrong, even though he barely checked. My son was experiencing pain in his mouth for the past 3 day, we even messaged his pediatrician and she advised us to go to the dentist. The doctor completely dismissed my husband's concerns by saying he was probably being overdramatic because his teeth is still growing. My son had just turned 3--pain is pain to a child that young. At least examine and try to figure it out instead of brushing my husband off. My husband mentioned that he had seen blood on our son's upper lip and that he hasn't been sleeping or eating well, yet the doctor said he "didn't see anything." You're a doctor, you should know that is somewhat concerning if we're telling you, he had pain, his upper lip was bleeding, and hasn't been sleeping or eating. After reading other reviews, I noticed similar complaints about negligence from some of the providers here. One reviewer even mentioned that after going elsewhere, they discovered their child had more issues than originally thought because their provider kept insisting everything was fine. I refuse to let my son go through that. If you suspect something is wrong but are repeatedly told everything is okay, I strongly advise getting a second opinion.

Every dental assistant was so great with both of our kids ( 4 & 2 years old) and remained patient and understanding when our kids were reasonably scared or reluctant during the exams. They even got a full set of X-rays on both kids! The last office we went to didn't even try. We were recently seen by another pediatric dentistry and left feeling like we were bad parents because our kids both had a few (or many) cavities. Dr. Elfarra reassured us that they were treatable and that sometimes genetics come in to play. The previous dentist told me my daughter's cavities were from nursing and nothing else, and that I needed to wean off. Here, the staff gave a much more compassionate response AND a suitable treatment plan for both kids to achieve healthier teeth. Dr. Elfarra and his awesome staff played with our kids and offered such a friendly and fun environment; my son left saying he had so much fun!! This is exactly the kind of office that was meant to take care of young children and offer reassurance to their parents and families. They scheduled me for 9am and had me come 15 minutes early, but when you open at 9 and don't show up til 9:15, leaving me, other patients, and even non-keyholder staff outside locked doors... not a good look. They showed up today giggling, and didn't acknowledge us or give any apology for being so late. The place is majorly outdated and has stains on the chairs and the walls from overuse. The place is dingy and feels dark. I know with bottom of the barrel health/dental care, we get what we pay for, but at LEAST show up on time for the appointments you schedule us for. I'm debating paying premiums that I can't afford, just to get away from this place. I've just been checked in at 9:20am, and told the doctor is not in yet and whenever they showed up (the receptionist didn't have an ETA) told me the procedure would be 40 minutes. I made them reschedule me. After rescheduling, the receptionist didn't acknowledge she'd set the new appointment in their calendar, and just sat there in silence while I stood at the counter. They went ahead of me. After a half hour or so, Ingrid came to take x-ray shots. It was somewhat difficult for me to open my mouth so wide but we got through it. Contrast that to another office in town where it seemed she had to take hundreds of images to get enough that were good. I was transferred to the dentist. It's somewhat private, not like the old style dental facilities but also not like one in Florida where there were six or seven of us side-by-side in a row of chairs. We talked about my situation and I explained a few things about my history with dentists. The dentist was surprised, but she was young and probably hadn't met bad dentists all that often. She went through the teeth and analyzed the problems, which were recorded by another person. After this process, she explained what could be done from fillings and extractions to implants and partial plates. I need a lot of work. This person who helped her record the analysis took me to her office. We discussed potential cost and how much Medi-Cal would pay. She put in the request for the deep cleaning and other procedure to be approved. She explained the prices, which of course, were not easy to accept, but understandable. She mentioned payment plans. I told her that I would have to go slowly. I'm going to return in a couple of weeks for fillings. Hopefully, by then, I'll have some idea of how to handle the other things on the list. They wanted to sell me something that would probably help my gums, but the cost was prohibitive. I'm guessing that they don't make much money with people on Medi-Cal but they should understand that the same people are struggling already. With each person, I was treated with respect, and asked if I had questions. No one rushed me or made me feel uncomfortable. Their equipment seems to be quite modern, like any that you would expect in a more expensive facility. I hope that my future visits will be positive. Update: The fillings visit was very good and things remained happy. We joked a bit and I found that the assistant came from an area toward the East Coast and we shared some food stories. The dentist's drill is probably the sound I really don't want to hear but it went well and I was okay with how quickly and smoothly everything went.

One issue I had recently didn't go away like I hoped it would. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth and my bottom right one began hurting like a mother. That went on for a week while I waiting for an appointment with my normal dentist (not this office, by the way), during which time the pain was SO bad, I had to go to the ER at 1am. My dentist took one look at my mouth and said "yep, it needs to come out, but we can't do it here, you need an oral surgeon." They refused to give me more than 1 day's worth of pain meds, kept me on the wrong dose of antibiotics, and gave me an appointment for a consultation TWO WEEKS away. Within two DAYS the pain was so bad, I seriously considered nefarious means of getting pain meds vs. just ripping the tooth out myself. I called my dentist in tears and they tried one last time to refer me to somewhere else...which turned out to be Ashok Vareenki's office. I was able to be seen a week sooner, which was better than I was going to get anywhere else. The appointment was set for the 4th and I was under the impression they would take the tooth out that day (this was coming from my regular dentist, who made the appointment for me). A receptionist from Dr. Vareenki's office called me on 2/1 to confirm my appointment and I was informed it was only for consultation, NOT the surgery. I was distraught. I hadn't been able to sleep, eat, or take care of my newborn in 2 weeks already and I was at the end of my rope with the pain. I begged them to see me early for a consultation so that I could just get the tooth out. Alma at the front desk (I hope that's her name and I hope I spelled it right) was an absolute ANGEL. She tooth my pain seriously and got me in for a consult the same day with Dr. Vanderbeek. He diagnosed me with pericoronitis and an impacted tooth, and agreed surgery was the cure. Everyone I interacted with at my consultation from the front desk, to the dental nurse, to the doctor, to the financial coordinator was kind, professional, and focused on helping me get out of pain ASAP. I'm TERRIFIED of dentists and they put me immediately at ease. They even kept my original appointment for 2/4 and turned it into a surgical appointment. Which is good because a day before surgery, my tooth finally abscessed and drained, so there was definitely a nasty infection going on. So today, I had my surgery, and you know...for getting teeth ripped out of my face, it was actually a pleasant experience. They talked me through what they were going to do, eased my fears, and made it a painless event. FINALLY, NO MORE PAIN. I mean, I'm sore from the surgery and the swelling, but that's to be expected. I still need my last 2 wisdom teeth out as well as another tooth removed that's been dead for some time. I will definitely be coming back to Dr. Vanderbeek and his team when I'm going to get that done! So 5 stars because: -They are accommodating -They are empathetic and compassionate to your pain -They take you seriously and you feel heard instead of ignored -They make the process quick and comfortable -Their pricing is reasonable (another dentist was trying to charge my husband the same cost FOR TWO FILLINGS as I was charged for general anesthesia and two wisdom teeth removals!)
