Dr Ammar is a Fantastic dentist! My family and I have been going to him for almost 20 years. He is very knowledgeable and patient when interacting with our family. He loves to fully educate his patients. He always instructs me in the proper flossing & brushing techniques as well as recommended a water pic. My gums are much healthier because of him. I've been a night time teeth grinder for years, cracking several of my back teeth. I was extremely reticent about having a night guard made. He gently insisted and I Love the guard and am sleeping better. Dr. Ammar has treated our children for years & our son travels from Sacramento every 6 months to see him. He really listens and will get to the heart of the dental problem. He is funny and has a great bedside manner. His staff are efficient and kind. At least one has been with him for 20 years. If I could give Dr Ammar 10 stars, I would. For those who think this is a bogus positive review, my family is in no way related to Dr Ammar, and only know him professionally. The ladies working there are nice but that id all I can say about this place, Dr. Ammar is very rude and hard when he does clean ups. I got my wisdom teeth removed here and specifically asked them to use amnesia to help during the procedure which they agreed but never ended up using it which caused major headaches, pain and swelling the following week. read more

Today was my daughters first visit and we LOVED Dr. Ammar!!! He was very personable, kind, and very informative!! He even got my very shy and dentist scared kid to crack a smile and laugh. A very unprofessional, confrontational, and rude dentist. he could use some customer service training!!

i had a baby tooth in my front lower teeth and decided to pull it and get braces. my mistake is i didn't do enough research nor look at yelp before hand. although the braces process went fine until the end i did have issues with the "ddr" himself. First when you walk in your nose and eyes are hit with a overwhelming older man smelling cologne. literally makes you throw up in your mouth how strong it is in the office and on him. he should maybe take it down a notch and switch up to some new age colognes, much lighter and fresh smelling. The office staff was great for the most part, i enjoyed hearing about how much of a mean person he was or how he had favoritism with certain assistants and how some of them were waiting for other positions to go through and couldn't wait to leave. And it was the truth a saw a few assistants leave during my 2+ year journey with that office. the girl spilled all of the office drama while you are getting prepped lol He speaks to his staff like they are trash IN FRONT of his patients and it is uncomfortable and embarrassing for myself and them. comments like "what are you doing, what you cant hear me right?" "you are not listening to me, what is wrong with you today just give it to me ill do it?" and laughs after they walk away .. no please or thank you when they do something correct. he has a very dry I'm above you because I'm a dentist personality and it is not pretty. during this time frame i remember i got my teeth cleaned they said i had to pay an amount out of pocket since they didn't cover it all and with my insurance being new i agreed, then i find out that they billed my insurance for the whole thing. from the other reviews it seems like this is not anything new. the woman at the front would look into it and never got back to me. i didn't make a big deal as i knew as soon as they were removed i would never be back. now for the removal of my braces... i did have a tooth pulled in the beginning so i was afraid of the gap i would he assured me that the permanent retainer was to hold them in place and i wouldn't have any issues. a few months later and my teeth have started to shift. i made an appointment to get it assessed as i assumed he would make it right as it was nothing i did on my part to make that happen. i just paid a lot of money for my teeth. after checking to make sure everything was in fact still intact and nothing was detached or broken his response was " you can put the braces back on or do Invisalign and i would have to pay the full cost. The FULL COST even though i just got my braces off a few months ago. I had a fixed retainer he placed on my bottom teeth and i wasn't sent home with a bottom retainer due to the fact he told me when i asked the fixed would hold my teeth in place. That did not happen, now my tooth is shifted up, I'm getting a gap and i feel like i got scammed. HOW IS MY TOOTH SHIFTING UP WITH A PERMINANTE RETAINER ON IT?? something is not right.. but again he doesn't care unless money is involved. I'm going to file a complaint with the DCA/Dental Board due to the fact i feel as if he does this with a purpose to have people come back. he put the fixed retainer on with confidence it wont move, he didn't provide me a bottom retainer and didn't tell me they would still shift. when it shifted a few months later he wanted me to pay again.. why place the fixed if they were going to shift? did he remove them too soon? was it placed incorrectly? he didn't answer just that just that i needed to pay him more money to fix it. I'm sorry but my mother, my brother, cousin and friend ALL have a fixed retainer on the bottom and have never had any issues. my friend got a tooth pulled almost in the same spot as me and my brother had multiple removed with zero issues. i wish he would attempt to make the situation better but he refused and made it my issue. That is not fair at all. please please please do your research before going to this clinic, make him put things in writing and go with your gut if something feels off. read more

My children had been going to Dr.Awnie for about 4 years. When I first moved to this city and started searching for a dentist who would meet our needs I called and had along conversation about how my elder child is petrified of dentists and can be extremely difficult to handle. I was assured that this was the right fit for us. Initially the dentist was patient, then we also got her braces done here and his bedside manner became harsh and hurried. He would say things like, " if you don't open your mouth I will have to just have you come another day!", "I won't see you if you keep behaving this way!". Going to the dentist once again had brought on a new bout of anxiety and fears. I posted a review back in May after our last visit, nothing specific but just that either scheduling should be made better or something needs to change as he had become extremely rude to both my children even my tougher younger child who never had any issues. I was expecting our normal 6 month check up and I didn't receive any calls so I called the office to schedule an appointment and was told, " because you posted a review online our office can no longer see your children!". Wow, instead of checking in with me about my concerns and trying to rectify the issue the office and the Dentists approach is to just end his services for his patients without warning. I will find another most likely better dentist, however if you are a parent or patient trying to go to this office please beware of our experience as I wouldn't want any child or patient to have to go through anything similar. read more

Instead of saving our 11 yr old chipped permenant tooth he did a full root canal. We were told our insurance coveted most of it, then once the roit canal was done they changed their story & said insurance did not. I called insurance and we had coverage. When we asked the dentist he said it's easier not to deal with insurance. Big time scammer! I had a visit with the dentist today. I didn't appreciate the way he talked to his customers and disregarded my request for routine cleaning, as I've requested. I came to the visit with an expectation to have routine cleaning,m done, he recommended me to have deep cleaning done, I decided not to do it at this time, because I have to paid additional fee. And then, the dentist refused to provide routine cleaning and told me that's not what I needed. I have a 6 year old who was seeing this dentist. He is completely insensitive to his patients and insisted on arguing with me regarding my sons gum pain. He wanted to charge me $170 to pull a tooth then after I denied to pull the tooth his office sent me a letter that we were randomly selected to not receive his services anymore?! Buyer beware of surprise bills. I hate to write a negative review but my experience here was truly shocking. Right off the bat, the dentist and dental assistants and even the billing specialist all pressured me to get every possible procedure that I could resulting in maxing out my flexible spending card in the beginning of the year and even borrowing from my parents flexible spending card. Ok fine, I'm thinking dental work is expensive and it's worth it. About 5 months later in June I receive a bill for almost $300 with an office visit date of June. I'm thinking they were billing in advance for an appointment that was scheduled the same month in June which I ended up cancelling a week later. I then receive a bill in July for $300 and the bill is blank! I'm not kidding! The bill was completely blank with no visitation information listed or the typical services rendered info one would expect to find on a bill. To add insult to injury when I call to question the bill, the billing specialist insinuates that they've been trying to reach me for months which is false which I took to mean that she's accusing me of shirking my financial responsibilities. My address and phone number have not changed and I was not made previously aware of an outstanding balance. I am shocked to have been treated this way by an establishment that claims to be family friendly when in actuality I was pressured to spend as much as I possibly could, despite the office staff knowing that I live on a single family income. If this bill turns out to be valid I will gladly pay it off and never return!!!!! read more

My family used this so called dentist several years ago. Mr. Ammar is a crook, constantly charging more and more money for the services that were agreed to be included in a specific treatment plan. I have six checks that state final payment. It was so bad his own employees were telling use not to do things he recommends. One of his assistants ended up completing the treatments at our home. This dentist is a JERK !!!!!! I took my two sons to him for the first time and he did root canal on my 8yr old and cleaning on my 5 yr old. My 8 yr old had a nightmare with this dentist. He was rude and would not stop when my son asked him to stop becuase he was in so much pain. He wouldn't allow me to be in the room with my son. This dentist is rude and has no manners at all and i am also going to file a claim against him with the California Dental Board. Just last week i took my 5yr old to get some filings. I was in the waiting room and could hear my 5yr old scream so i asked the front desk that i want to be with my sn but they refused making excuses that there is no room. I was so pissed off when m son was screaming that i told him to stop right away and took my son away from him. I told the dentist that he was very unprofeesional and rude and told him that he needed to treat kids with delicate care as they are only kids and cannot endure pain like an adult does. He rudely me told me to get out of his office but i didn't leave so easily. I gave hime a piece of my mind and he ended up calling the cops on me. I told him to go ahead and that i will wait for them so i went outside to my car as my son was terrified from the whole experience. I waited for the cops to come but they were taking too long and i had to leave so i wnet inside and told the guy to send the cops to my home since he has my address as i was nt going to wait any longer. I left and wnet home and sure enough in a short while two cops knocked on my door. I told them that i was expecting them. I told them what had transpired and how the dentist had scared the wits out of my little one and what he did with my older son. They told me not to go near his office or they arrest me next time so i told them the cops that i had no interest in going to that jerk. They also told me to file a complaint with the California State Dental Board. They left after hearingmy side of the story. This dentist is a total jerk , he is abnoxious and stubborn & pig headed. This is the WORST Dental office I have ever had the experience to deal with. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'd rather pull my own tooth than to go to this place. I had called to make an appointment with this office and I was given an date in three weeks time. I explained to them my insurance status, they wrote it down, processed it, and provided me with an appointment. A dental office would not schedule a person in unless they approved of their insurance. Well, a day before my scheduled appointment, I received a call from the office asking if I was willing to take a later time. I told them that I had already coordinated my schedule with work and my child's school drop-off arrangements and that I would not be able to accommodate their request. The woman at the office explained that one of their current patients is not able to keep her appointment and needed an earlier one, which was my appointment. She had the nerve to say that the patient had an important event to attend to on that day. Are you serious? Is my business not worth it to you? Are you telling me that my time and effort in agreeing to do business with you is less important than another patient? That is not good business practice. I told them flat out that I am not able to take a later time. Around 5:45pm the day before my appointment, and minutes before closing of business day, I received yet another disappointing phone call. They had telephoned me to say that the insurance I had provided is not accepted. How can that be when they accepted it three weeks ago?? They gave me the run-around, putting me on hold for countless minutes and gave a poor excuse saying that I had another insurance. I explained to them that, yes he was under that insurance but now is on an insurance plan that they accept. It just happens that the change had a week overlapping each other. Anyways, they cancelled my appointment which I felt like a call they made so that they can make another one of their unlucky patients happy. I mean seriously, call me less than 24 hours before my appointment to cancel? that is just bad business ethics, rude, and disappointing. If you are looking for a dental office in Manteca, DO NOT GO HERE. They will push you around to accommodate someone else they consider more important. If their business etiquette is just like how it was handled with me, I am surprised that they remain open for business. Don't be blinded by their fake friendly voices on the telephone. The second they feel that someone else is more important than you, they will drop you faster and harder than a baker picking up a hot pan without gloves. I've been taking my son here for a while and have never particularly loved this place, but the office staff has always been pretty friendly and the dental assistant was always very good at explaining things to my son and making him feel comfortable. We went in last week for my son to get a cleaning and check up. The only time they could get me in was toward the end of the day. They were at a temporary location with smaller exam rooms so I was unable to accompany my son like I usually do. During the exam I guess my son gagged and threw up a little. The dentist said that from now on he needs to come in early and not eat much before the appointment because he threw up and this wasn't the first time. I informed them that every other appointment I had been in the room with him and he had never thrown up...and had they had a morning appointment available, I would have taken it. Today, we had to go into the office for my son to get a filling. This was the first time I've ever had any real interaction with the dentist (Ammar) himself. While there were no signs about beverages in the waiting room, he scolded me for having coffee in my hand because it could spill and stain his carpet. I get that, but post a sign...or perhaps find a nicer way to ask me to discard my beverage. While my son was in the chair, I was told by the office staff that I could stand in the doorway and watch since the rooms were way too small for me to be in there. Understandably, I wanted to keep an eye on my five-year-old and he wanted me nearby because he was nervous. I wasn't interfering in any way when the dentist rudely told me that me being there is going to cause him to get emotional and that's not going to benefit anyone. He went on and on in a very rude and condescending tone for a while about it until I eventually sauntered out to the waiting room to get him to shut up. On top of that, when we were leaving, I asked if there were any special instructions (ie, not eat for an hour, no straw usage, etc.) and they just said for him to eat soft things. Okayyyy. Thankfully I was able to google it and find out that, like I thought, you're not supposed to drink from straws for a while after. Shouldn't those people be telling patients that?! The office as a whole just isn't my favorite and Dr. Ammar has a horrible bedside manner. It's really a shame. I will no longer be taking my son here. No one should have to put up with that or be spoken to in the manner I was today. Don't even waste your time coming here. The dentist is just rude, condescending, and unprofessional. ETA: my son actually received a baby root canal from Dr Ammar that day which is not what I was told was going to happen. Not long after, he developed an abscess and we were forced to pull the tooth and put in a space maintainer until the adult tooth grows in. We now go to Valley Oak Dental and when he had to get another baby root canal, all went well. There was no infection and everything is fine. The children's dentist there is Sooo much better. I recommend that place if you're in need of a pediatric dentist! read more

Dr. Ammar is five star to me, he saved my life by encouraging me to seek medical advice because an oral surgery procedure was not healing correctly. He determined that it was not dental but must be medical, I contacted my doctor after the visit and found that I had a very serious platelet problem, my platelets were down to 2K whereas normal is 140-400K. No wonder I was bruising and not healing, it required a few days in emergency and literally saved my life. I am good at putting off my health issues since I was feeling fine. My doctors told me to be sure to thank my Dentist and I certainly do. I would recommend Dr. Ammar as the very best. read more

If I could say 0 stars I would!!! I can't believe this place is open. I worse dentist I've ever been to. My son (6 years old) has a bad gag reflex, like I do and choked the first time he went there while the male dentist who by the way was RUDE and insulting to my wife was working on him while having the water jet with the spit vacuum in his mouth.... and when I say choked I mean turned blue. So the next time we told the lady that cleaned his teeth that this happened and we want him to raise and spit instead.... ok no problem the sink is right there.... this time I was in there with him and the male dentist came in and started off fine. So I advised him of what happened the first time and that we'd like him to raise and spit. He turn around fast and said with the rudest possible way"we don't do that here" so I asked why and told him the last time there wasn't a problem with it. He told me the they don't have anywhere for him to spit while standing next to the sink!!!! When I pointed out the sink he was standing next to he then said it was "unsanitary to use the sink and if you don't like it you can just leave and find another dentist!" He then turned around and walked away. I can't believe that a "family dentist" could actually be like this! Just wanted to update since the last review I left was a year ago and I feel like they are getting a bad rap. Honestly, I've read some of the reviews and I don't know what people expect. It's a private practice dental office, it's a place of business, and it's not their fault if your insurance coverage sucks. As for the "root canal" comment, I'm in the healthcare field and if they REALLY didn't have you sign for that (whenever there is a procedure you MUST give consent and sign) then you should be filing a complaint with the Dental Board of California which is found on dca.ca.gov not complaining on yelp.com...Anyway, it's now year four at this office. My son goes twice a year for cleanings/routine exams/sealant and still never an issue. Oh yeah...if your kid is one of the ones screaming while getting their teeth cleaned then you should ask for the gas mask or tell them to man up :-D read more

I have a 6yrs old and a 4yrs old, and my kids are super shy and get very nervous. I was nervous to take them to the dentist. But I have to say, Dr. Ammar and the ladies, Renee, Emily, and Daisy were THE BEST!. Daisy in particular! she helped my son thru the xrays and cleaning. they let me watch dr. ammar and how daisy did the cleaning. dr ammar was super honest, but its what I needed. lol daisy was just awesome with my son, like if we were family. I got nervous since my son had an infection, but daisy reassured me everything was going to be just fine. it was comforting to see and feel that they actually cared. This dentist office is the best in town, the staff is super helpful and Dr. Ammar is very professional and allowed me to understand the whole procedure. Making an appointment was simple and easy, they had a spot for me that fit perfectly with my schedule. Arriving to the office the service was very welcoming and informative. The nurses were very nice and courteous and got me on my way. I came in during the afternoon and got my teeth deep cleaned, and turned out great. I called the office and asked if they accepted my insurance. I gave them all of my insurance information, and they told me that they were a network provider. It turns out they were not a network provider. I was not able to maximize the insurance benefits. On February 04, 2014 the day of appoint and x-rays were done and advice on work that needed to be done and the cost. The staff advice the cost and what the insurance would pay and I signed off that I agree. Staff broke down there price and what the insurance would pay and our responsibility portion. They gave us the estimate of how much it would cost us to continue the work. They quoted me the cost of my husband's procedures, and we accepted terms and made payment of $800.00 dollars that day and would have a remaining balance of $412 dollars in our second visit. The second visit the staff advised us that the cost was three times the amount than what was originally quoted. The office staff told me that the office would reduce it by 50 percent but not off the entire procedure. The staff first deducts the $800.00 before giving me the 50 percent. I insiste that they should honor the original given amount that we had originally agreed on. Or the discount should be the total amount and not after the $800.00 given down as a down payment. read more

Do not go to him! He is a crook with zero integrity! We have been loyal patients for 5yrs. My 3 kids get check-ups every 6mths. They have never liked him but our insurance covered him and as a single mom I can't afford co-pays. The last time we went his office failed to mention that Dr. Ammar was not longer covered by our insurance. He is the one who removed himself! He worked on all 3 kids, did x-rays, flouride and sealents knowing insurance was not covering the cost! Now I'm stuck paying out of pocket!! He knew this! A crook! And on that visit he had his 14yr old daughter who has not passed a health board exam assist him! Her hands were in my kids' mouths!! Malpractice! I don't go back with my older 2 so I didn't even know until after the appt. His 14yr old was no where around when I was in the back with my youngest. He knows it is wrong! He refuses to talk to me. He makes his poor assistant handle his bad business practice. If he treats his loyal patients of 5yrs this way, imagine how he will treat his new patients??
