This is Smashburgers first PA store. Located across the U.S. I am shocked they stuck it way the fuck out in Radnor. Good thing I don't mind hauling my ass for a burger. The interior is very modern and sleek. I like the order when you come in and sit your ass down trend in the fast casual burger joints going on now. I hate when they have a "secret" menu thats not on the menu. Lucky for them I heard about the fried pickles from a Yelper and knew they were available. I would have been pissed if I found out afterward. The place was hopping but all the food came out quick. Our shake was good, they use Häagen-Dazs ice cream and the quality is there. Some crisp fries , but would have liked a cheese sauce or some special sauce for them. My fried pickles seemed a tad on the tough side. Not really sure how that could even happen.I have had many fried pickles and never came across this, the breading needed a bit more seasoning. I really liked the burger, meat was crisp outside and juicy inside, but again, no option for another patty. Would have liked it more with two meat pucks on it. The Smashburger Fries are worth it - the garlic olive oil, so good for the mouth and bad for the body. I thought the hamburger meat was a bit tough and it was salted - sort of tasted like low quality beef. If your thinking smashburger or five guys, smashburger is better, but its also 2x the price. Claiming its offering a smashingly new approach didn't seem that way when broken down. Fresh never frozen beef is a 5 Guys standard. So it's natural to compare these two burger spots. One bonus at Smashburger is there are more choices here than Five Guys. You can get chicken, salads and shakes here. Pretty much it's burgers, fries and dogs at Five Guys. My lady and I ordered the Classic Smash: American cheese, ketchup, Tomatoe, pickle and onion. Both of us got their smash sauce on the side (neither of us liked the mostly mustard tasting mystery sauce) She tried the pretzel bun, I went for the classic egg. We split shoestring fries. I had an unsweetened iced tea while she tried the lemonade. The burgers were good. Better than fast food. Not as good as Five Guys in my opinion. Definitely not in the upper stratosphere of 500 degrees SPoT food truck or Rouge burgers. Wow, this place is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I mean the last time I was here, it was actually pretty good. Good service. Good quality food. Actually I pulled the manager aside and told him how this place turned around, but I came back today and this place is a disaster again. A long line, moved very slow to order the food. And one register was working, not two although plenty of employees were standing around. I knew we had a problem when the person taking the orders was making milkshakes. I tried to redeem a birthday coupon for a free side with my order. When I showed the offer to the person taking my order, She said I had to pull up a barcode. I couldn't get my phone to work to pull up the barcode. So I just paid for the side. Then I asked the manager about it and he didn't seem too familiar with the birthday offer. He said to come back another day and he would get me a free side. The only problem is, I doubt I'll be back. Just when I thought there was hope for this place, it took a serious turn for the worse. I came back and gave this place another try. The new manager was great. Better attitude, much friendlier. Service much better. It all starts at the top. Service too slow. I made an account solely to give this place 5 stars. Admittedly, I've only been in at night (3/18, 3/20), so I can't attest to the daytime experience. I can say, though, that I work in a restaurant and know how annoying it is for someone to come in right before closing. If they were annoyed they didn't let it show, because every worker both times I went in was so friendly and accommodating. The food has been consistently delicious, even though there were different people working. I've honestly probably never had a better customer service experience in a restaurant. In my years working in a restaurant, I've found it's easy to cut the friendly chit chat when it's busy and stressful, but it's even easier to get lazy when closing is in sight. So, all I've got to say is I'm impressed that at 9:30pm I was given great food and a great experience. Also, don't blame the workers for the rules made up by management. One or the worst burgers I can remember having in a long time. If you're gonna do one thing...you should do it great...every time!! The burger was thin and dry. I doubt that it was cooked to order. I've had better burgers on turnpike rest stops, and we all know how bad they are. Bacon was limp and grey...onion "rings" on top were cold and overcooked. Most likely made earlier in the day and set aside for use later. Fries were good...warm and crispy. Fried pickles and accompanying sauce were beyond salty!! I know pickles are salty, but these were obscenely salty. (And over fried as well) Girl who took my order (Michelle) was anything but friendly, and was bitching under her breath about "walking out" as she was begrudgingly taking my order. As I was waiting for my food, I watched her reach into a freezer compartment to get a container to make a milkshake. 4 fingers if her plastic gloved hand,(The same hand she was pushing buttons on the register and taking money with), went INSIDE of the container that she was about to make someone's shake in. My wife and I ate here today. We had the basics - the Chicago burger and fries; I had the smash fries and she the sweet potato fries. We had Stewarts creme sodas- love those. The meal cost about $24. It's a fast-food place but with table-side service. The food is exceptional, with fresh ingredients. The burger was a honkin' big patty, medium done, with a splash of cheese and a mound of fried onions. Served on a pretzel roll. The fries were seasoned with herbs- yum. A young lady brought out our food, and a gentleman cleaned up for us. There were no trash cans in the dining area, or places to leave your tray. That's a notch above most places in their league. Who wants to bus their own table, especially if you've got places to go, things to do? I compare this restaurant to Elevation Burger, another sandwich chain with fresh ingredients and pretty good service. Elevation Burger DOES have trash cans for you to clean up your own damn mess. They're also pretty expensive, for a restaurant of this kind. I expect a similar meal would have been north at Elevation, of the price we paid at Smashburger. The dining area in this particular restaurant is divided into thirds. The first row closest to the door has raised stools, like at the bar. Against the wall is a row of regular height tables. In the center row, a row of booths with super-comfy seats and tables you can draw close to yourself so you don't get food on your shirt or lap (as I tend to do). This is where we were - thee only problem here was climbing out of them- not easy, when you're lugging a big belly in front of you. I wish I had professional rating skills like other folks on Yelp. I generally use just one rule: could I picture myself eating here again, or not? As far as Smashburger goes, I would defnitely answer yes- but next time, I would like to explore the menu a little more. read more

Famous "Smash Fries" were cold, sent back. Came out as what Looked like regular fries even staff agreed, got them replaced. Cook thought it was necessary to add EXTRA olive oil to "make sure I saw it" as team member who delivered them said. Guess what?! Still COLD. Cook or manager can't tell who he was had attitude, it's an open kitchen guests can see and hear you. It's clean but it's not inviting. Not even busy. Burger was their classic. THE WORST!!! Where to even begin.. The management at this joint is beyond poor and I wish there was a rating less than 1 star. We are an office of 15 employees and wanted to place a call ahead order for 10 sandwiches. I called Smashburger on a Thursday at 10:30am to place the order. I was greeted on the phone by a not-so friendly employee who was very abrupt and rude in her responses. Apparently the store does not offer call ahead orders. I asked her to speak to the manager and she said he conveniently just ran out to the bank. I called back about 15 minutes later to someone answering the phone, "Hello". I was completely thrown off guard and verified that I was calling Smashburger. The last I checked, when you are answering the phone for any business, you answer by saying the name of the company, not just HELLO (with an attitude). I asked to speak to the manager and when he got on the phone he had an attitude right off the bat. I explained to him that we wanted to order 10 sandwiches to go and he said they are unable to do that. It's not even 11am- there is no way the store can be busy, so someone could easily make our order. I explained to the manager that it is not efficient for me to stand in line in the store and order 10 sandwiches. The line will just grow and grow behind me and customers will get annoyed. He told me that they cannot do call ahead because it is not fair to the customers in the store and their grill isn't large enough. It's a complete oxymoron!! You are making the customers wait in the store for awhile if I am in there ordering a ton of sandwiches. Your a burger joint, shouldn't your biggest asset to your store be the size of your grill? I asked him why he can't have one of his employees manning call ahead orders and the rest of the employees tending to the needs of the customers in store. He further insulted me and told me I will never understand their reasoning behind why they do not do call ahead. Logically, nothing he said made sense and I will never go back again. The last time I went to the store, they forgot my avocado and BBQ sauce, the cashiers are rude, unfriendly and completely disconnected. Nothing like ordering a sandwich at a register and having the cashier lean on the counter with her hand on her cheek, looking completely dazed and confused. This franchise needs to get its act in order ASAP because they are pissing off a lot of people and losing a lot of business. STAY AWAY! Go a mile down the road to Jakes. I placed an online order and upon arriving home, my drinks were missing after confirming with the server that my entire order was complete. This annoyed me so I called the store. My issue is not with the food, but rather the way the manager handled the situation. In a nutshell, he did not apologize for the mistake, but rather accused me of not following an unknown procedure of taking my drinks. I don't see how that was possible given the fact that one of the drinks was a fountain soda. Upon explaining this to him and explaining that I have ordered take out from many other locations that would ensure I had my drinks, he hung up on me. When I called back, another employee pretended to be the "manager" until I verified his name. Misrepresenting your title is pretty childish and for the manager not to immediately take the call after hanging up and the phone ringing again is disturbing. My issue could have been avoided if Ryan would have apologized from the beginning instead of trying to blame the customer. I would have asked that the next time I come in, please include two drinks for free, but never did i even hear the words "I'm sorry." I'm on a mission to visit all of the Smashburgers in the Philadelphia Metro area and this Smashburger was the second one on my list. I visited this Smashburger location mostly because I was dying to try the Philly burger, but the barbecue bacon burger was far more effective in calling my name. The burger was very juicy and flavorful; it also held its shape very well (given the potentially messy component of loose bacon). I think this burger is probably one of the best items on the menu--they've got just the right proportion of cheese to bacon and barbecue sauce. I got an order of the fries as well (rosemary and assorted spices), which I've always loved. I think the taste of Smashburger fries is far superior to other fast food chains (I'm a sucker for shoestring fries, too). I finished off the meal with one of the delicious milkshakes they churn out (chocolate of course)-- so refreshing and cold. Yum. Added bonus: the staff are quite friendly and helpful in this location, which takes the experience to an extra pleasant level. Smash burger has a delicious premise and style untouched by many in the fast food industry. Table service and greasy love brought right to you and cleaned up as you leave. However here in wayne, every time I attend they seem very understaffed. Long waits at the register, high prices, and then when the food comes to you half of the time it's wrong, and most of the time it's sadly cooked to something other than great. Almost always decent. After attending for years, I don't think I'll be returning to this place fueled by gimmicky service masking a food trend they cannot replicate. In short: I was obsessed when they first opened. Since they don't I decided to head on over to Smashburger because I realized I had not been for a while. I have had their basic cheeseburger (which really isn't 'basic' but very delicious) so I decided I wanted one of their not so typical burgers. My partner in crime got their special Sin City Burger and I got the Spicy Jalapeno Baja. I would highly recommend both and were very delicious. I think I would have even liked mine even more spicy but the guacamole was very fresh and delicious. We ordered just their plain fries which are okay, but I have had their sweet potato fries before and they are tasty. We also stuck to just getting the regular size burger which is more than enough! First off the service here was phenomenal everyone was super nice and accommodating, not something you see often in a fast food place. I got a custom chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun yuummm so good!! The hubby got a bacon bbq burger also yummy and my son got a hotdog which was surprisingly super tasty and cut in half which I felt was good for a child. We were "greeted" by being told that pretty much everything eatable is out. Our choice came down to wether or not we want crispy chicken. Oh I forgot, we could have that with fries. The girl at the cash register who took our order was clearly annoyed that we even showed up. The service was aweful. Whatever left overs they gave us were greasy and probably had been in the fryer way too long. I will never go back. As a matter of fact I will tell everyone I know about this experience. Went here tonight for the first time after seeing them on a Travel Channel Food Paradise show over the weekend. They have several secret side items that you can order that aren't on the website or restaurant menu. You can order fried pickles, fried jalapenos, or fried banana peppers as a side for your burger. Frustrating that they don't advertise these items as they were all great. I ordered the Spicy Jalapeno Baja chicken sandwich - fresh jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, red onion on a chipotle bun. It was great. The chicken was pounded out thin so it had a nice char on it while still being very juicy. I ordered the fried pickles as a side order as well as the fried jalapenos. Both side orders were very good. The pickles still had a nice bite to them despite being fried. My wife had the smash fries as a side order as well. They were just ok. Not sure I would order them again. They are regular shoe string fries with italian olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. I only tasted a faint trace of rosemary. Good but not great. There are tons of options there - they have about 10 different menu options but they have tons of toppings that can be mixed/matched for a create your own burger. Great burgers and their fries are some of the best I've had. My boyfriend and I treat ourselves to smashburger when we are in the area, which isnt too often so it is a bit of a treat for us. It is a bit pricy but the quality is there so it's worth it. Looking forward to eating there next time we're up that way. read more
