I had to drive out to the Energy Corridor to finish up some things for work, so I decided to stop by the recently opened Smashburger on Eldridge Parkway. I stopped by on my way home, a little after noon, and there were quite a few people inside for a Saturday afternoon. The interior was small, but not cramped. Booths line the walls and booth/chair/table combinations are in the middle. I can imagine that during lunch on weekdays, this place probably gets packed. After a short wait in line, I ordered the All American Smashburger (1/3 pound, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles). I also got the Smashfries. The price for the burger and fries came out at over seven dollars. My order was to go, took about 5 minutes, and was in a nice Smashburger box/container when it was ready. Much better then the paper bags that fast food type restaurants normally give out. About the burger. Well, the burger patty was juicy, but it just wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be. The cheese and fresh/crisp veggies sort of made up for the meat though. Overall, I thought the burger was slightly above average. The Smashfries (tossed in rosemary, olive oil, and garlic) were the best thing about my meal. Lots of flavor and crispy. After having them once, I can say that they are now my favorite fast food fries. If I had to make a complaint about the fries, it would be that my order didn't come with enough of them. This is one of the few times that I wish I would have been asked, "Would you like that super sized?" If I were just rating the fries, I'd say 5 stars, but Smashburger as a whole gets 3 and a half. read more

I've been here twice in the last few weeks and I am a fan. Definitely a fan. Both times I've been here I had Spicy Baja and it was great. The burger comes out messy, gooey in cheese and cooked about medium-well. I've had the fries and the smashfries, both are good though I think I prefer the regular fries. This is only for the Eldridge @ Briar Forest location, I've never been to any of the others. It opened up a few months ago and I was glad I stopped in. Great place for lunch, probably not a great place for a date unless you two just love burgers and have to "try 'em all". read more

My family and I came around 9:15pm and they close at 10pm. The lady in the front gave us a attitude because we came in so close to closing time. While we were waiting for our food , she walks pass our table and coughs up a loogie and does it again as she walks pass us again. Our food finally came out and it was disgusting. The burger was over seasoned with salt or something making it taste like a sweaty burger . We all took a couple bites and didn't finish it. Never coming here again. read more

Super slow service, poor attitudes, disengaged employees and very dirty restaurant environment. They don't bus the tables so it's smells and is filthy. It takes 30 minutes to get a basic burger. When you need a good burger fast, go to Smash! The food is consistent and the fries are always cooked perfectly. Ordering is simple with counter service and the food comes out fresh and quickly. I have to admit, I forgot the name "Smash" so when I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, I was surprised by the flattened chicken breast. I was expecting something more substantial. In truth, the breast was large enough that I could fold it over to make a "double" and fit inside the bun. I'm not sure if I'm suggesting a large chicken breast or a small bun. The sandwich came with lettuce, tomato, onion & pickles and had good flavor. My real disappointment was in the fries. Luke warm, limp....no crisp. Not what I would expect from a popular burger chain. Delicious and quick! Unfortunately I don't have IN AND OUT or Habit here in Houston so we have been looking for a solid replacement to get our burger on.... This place is very tasty! I love the choice of Artisan buns and fresh ingredients. I ordered the smash burger with out a bun for my first visit and the smash fries. Super good but I was starving after, I think because the patties are so thin. This time I ordered Smash big with grilled onions and one more slice of cheese on a multi-grain bun. I've been here before with my nephew who loves Smashburger, however today I was around the area and craved a burger. I really liked the fact that the girl was very accommodating when I asked her to do the "bbq, bacon & cheddar" with no bread, since I'm on a diet. Overall, really good and my cheat food were the sweet potato fries and they were delish! This store struggles with doing the right things. Went in at noon, no one there. Placed my order and watched the lady start to clean the booths, had gloves on and was washing them with a towel. When my order came up she started getting it ready but did she change her gloves, nope. So I asked if she did and her reply was it's just disinfectant as if I'm ok with my food now having disinfectant on it. Believe it's a health code violation too. read more

EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK- FOOD POISONING. I ate here last night and got a classic smash, my stomach started hurting immediately after eating. This morning when I woke up I could barely move, I was throwing up and had diarrhea. I've been violently ill all day today and the doctor said it is food poisoning. I am in so much pain now, please eat at your own risk. It is not worth it. I have been horribly sick with no signs of improvement and now I'm having to miss work and lose out on money. To staff and management, shame on you for not being more careful with people's food. I used to love coming here and now I can never return. Handling people's food is a big responsibility and it's not okay to risk people's health, especially when they are paying you good money to eat here. They made some changes to the interior here which makes the place look bigger. Its a good change. I like the smash fries with rosemary and olive oil but thats where it stops. They are actually string fries and asking $3-$4 for them is pushing their luck. Ive havent been here in awhile. I stopped going because I felt the burgers were way too greasy. Very nice place, modern, clean, with great service. Unfortunately my burger was extremely salty (and I do like salt, but this was too much). I live and work close by, and I hate myself that I've never been here before. Until now. I literally just came back here from lunch and had to write about it. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger and Smashfries. Portions weren't that big...but it was so tasty! You can tell that they just slapped on some fresh ground beef to make the patties (due to them being irregularly shaped). It's so greasy delicious! The fries were good too. At first I thought this place was a little pricey, but when it comes down to it, I don't mind paying the little extra to get an incredibly satisfying burger. I've been to this location about once a month this year, and every time I leave stuffed and happy. Service - great and fast. Food - delicious and customizable. Seating - accomodating. My favorite burger is the BBQ, Bacon & Cheese for some savory goodness. Recently I've been trying to go healthier and getting the chicken, which I was reluctant to do because chicken sandwiches at most places just aren't satisfying...BUT their chicken here is amazing! The Smash Fries are a must...fries tossed in olive oil, garlic, rosemary and other herb goodness! Although, I did see last time they started offering sweet potato fries which my co-worker said she liked. If you're big into milkshakes, they're delicious here. My ther co-worker always get the chocolate milkshake and I swear, it's like you get 2 every time you order one since they give you not only a classic tall glass, they also give you the metal shaker with the "overflow" so you get that much more! Caution on ordering the Kid's Smashburger. I would actually recommend against it for normal adult appetite. I've gotten it once before and regretted not ordering off the regular menu. It was almost like the regular bun size, and a small patty that just didn't cut it. Plus, the meal came with regular fries. I've seen Smashburger featured on the Food Network a couple of times, and was disappointed to learn they don't have one in Austin. So the last time I was in Houston, I made a point to go and try it, and for that I'm grateful! I don't know what it is, but their patty is very juicy and delicious, yet seems thinner than other burger joints. That's ok - it tastes better than other burger joints! I like that I'm not stuck with fries with my burger - I have options like onion rings, fried veggie sticks, and fried pickles (the fried pickles are where it's at). Two of us ate for around $22 so I'm almost glad there's not one in Austin or else I'd run out of money fast. Looking forward to going again next time I'm in Houston! read more

Cook go Smash! Smashburger is indeed one of the best fast food burgers. Like all major chains, this one seeks to achieve a consistency across their Empire. And they accomplish that. The burgers are thin how I like them, with well-balanced toppings, crunchy onions, pickles, fresh tomato, sauces in alignment with the stars and the entire package. The buns are fresh out of a plastic bag, though fortunately on the skinny side, too, so it doesn't dominate your palate. Go for the Classic. Add bacon to it if you're in a salty dispostion. This place knows portion control, so don't be afraid to order it "Big"...it's single patty equivalent what you'll find around here. You can find better in the Energy Corridor, but this place is pretty good. Lines can be rather long at lunch as the corporate proles (such as myself) stop in for a bite. I'm not sure what's happened in the past couple years but the staff there currently cannot get any order right nor do they have good attitudes. I used to love this location. But since, I've ordered there several times in the past year and every time I was not satisfied. The way they make the fries now are different, always over cooked or stale. Second time I went I asked for a BEAN burger and I got a greasy BEEF burger with over cooked fries. I was very clear in my order. The manager attempted to have me come back to get the correct order, which for that they get 3 stars but I was home already and hangry. I never went back. I have been wanting to try Smashburger for some time and was thrilled when I saw it was finally open for business! I went for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Baja Chicken Sandwich with the Smash Fries. I huge fan of the fries which are seasoned with rosemary. I sampled the cheeseburger and loved it! All of the ingredients are really fresh which gives your burger a homemade taste! I also wasn't a fan of the onion strings. Next time I think I'll stick with regular fries & maybe try a shake. Either way, I'm a fan! Also, the staff was incredible friendly! A+ when it comes to a burger place! I went for a late lunch so I did not encounter the wait times as previously mentioned. My last lunch at SmashBurger was better. This time I got the grilled SmashChicken Buffalo style with everything on it. The chicken was tender and the Buffalo sauce and blue cheese combo tasted great. It was very messy though with too much sauce dripping all over the place. The big disappointment was the rosemary fries. Last time they were great, crispy and fried perfectly. This time I guess this location was too busy because the fries came out greasy, burnt and rather stunted. The oil was too cold and they overcompensated by frying it too long.
