Let me start by saying the stylist, Helen, is fantastic and I would not hesitate one second having her cut my hair again. I was also a repeat customer. The illegal "OSHA" charge tacked onto the bill left a bad taste in my mouth and I am STILL waiting for someone to follow up on my email to corporate a week ago. I made an appointment days before my visit and if I had been informed of the charge then, I would have passed. It wasn't until I had rearranged my week to make said appointment, was seated in the chair and the sign was pointed out to me that I was made aware. I would have left then and there but I respected the stylist's time as it would have left her with no client for that time spot. It isn't her fault she works for a shady company. There is NO SUCH THING as a mandatory OSHA surcharge for COVID cleaning! The "cleaning" that is done between clients has been the standard protocol! Trying to make a couple bucks under the guise of COVID? Really? Those couple of bucks just lost you a customer out of principle. read more

I went in for a trim. My hair has shoulder length. She could not do it. When she was finished, the hair on the right side was not the same length as on the left side. I had to tell her, she did not even notice herself. In addition, there were uneven bits of hair left, when I got home. It took 30 minutes for that, far too long for such an easy cut. Getting a trim of a few inches is like the easiest haircut for a hairdresser. Even my sister can do it! But at Walmart the professional hairdresser was unable to do a trim. I took my daughter to this salon just to get her ends trimmed for a dance that she was going to. We'd never been there before, but I didn't think getting her ends trimmed was that complicated. Sella was the person we got to cut my daughter's hair. I said what I wanted perfectly clear- the dead ends trimmed from the back of her hair. Not layerd, perfectly straight. I said that her hair was just washed so we didn't need a wash. And I repeatedly said that we didn't want anything done with the front of her hair. Normally at other salons they listen to what I say or what my daughter says (she's 15). I didn't think that she couldn't understand English since she was speaking it. I went to sit down and next thing I know, she's taking my daughter over to wash her hair! I told her I didn't want her to wash her hair but she did anyway! So my daughter goes over to sit in the chair to get her hair cut. Since Sella washed it, her long hair was now a knotted up mess and she said that she was going to charge an extra $10 or something like that. So she combs out her hair and finally starts to cut the dead ends off. Then she starts talking about someone else and her daughter and how they're hair is layerd and they liked it. I had to keep telling her no layers, just straight! Then she grabs the front of my daughter's hair like she's going to give her bangs! She actually had the scissors to her hair! I had to raise my voice and practly yell at her to not cut her hair! What was supposed to be a simple $20ish end trim turned into a $40 something haircut and the stylist we got didn't know how to do her job and charged for every darn thing that we didn't ask for! If I could give this salon and Sella 0 stars I would! We had a horrible experience at this salon with a so-called stylist that didn't know what she was doing! read more

Stumbled upon the salon as I was making a quick trip in to Walmart for adult diapers. Stylist Maribeth was great! My mom has Alzheimers and it's been difficult to maintain any color or even have her sit long enough for a cut. Maribeth was kind, accommodating & very efficient in cutting and quickly styling my mom's hair. I must say, I got emotional as I saw a glimpse of my mom as she stroked her freshly cut hair, much like she used to when she was not ill. Best haircut ever! Never thought about getting a haircut while on a Walmart run, but saw the salon while walking in and decided to take a chance. I was greeted by Veronica and she was very polite and professional. She explained what services they offered and suggested what might work for me. She was very pleasant and didn't mind answering questions while I was getting the haircut. I was very happy with the results and my wife liked the haircut as well! I got a cut and overall color on Sunday and left with orange hair. I have golden undertones and she used the wrong product on my hair. She enhanced the orange and red in my hair NOT what I wanted. I went back in to have it "fixed" and it was a little better but not worth the 100 we paid. I wrote to customer service on Monday requesting a refund because I have had to pay someone else to fix my hair and no response. I will not go back to this salon and I do not recommend anyone go there. read more

I went in for a shampoo and cut. Both stylists were busy, 1 cutting the other's hair. They told to come back in 15 minutes. When I did. I was told to wait while Sarah finished blow drying her hair. On May 30th, it was extremely unprofessional and an extremely lengthy simple service!!! I had an appointment at 9 am for highlights which I have had done here multiple times and was always a pleasant service. However, this particular day was a little sketchy. We started simple enough with the initial highlight service. During my hair service a tall man came into the salon who was introduced to me as the district manager. The hairstylist who was doing my hair then hurriedly put in the rest of the bleach to highlight my hair. I sat there alone for what seemed like forever!! The two of them disappeared into the back together and I was left unattended!!! I was so upset and felt forgotten. Around noon Veronica who has done my hair before in ample amount of time came in. The hairstylist Sara asked her to finish my hair thankfully I did not mind due to being forgotten by her for some strange man in the back room. I did observe Sara leave quickly after Veronica took over my hair and the man leave in a short amount of time after that which looked very suspicious to me. I do not care who has relations with who but you should keep it out of the work place!!!!!! I am so utterly disgusted and taken back by those two!!!!! What if my hair would have been burned because of being forgotten about for so long while you tend to the "backroom" I can only imagine what they were actually doing and I am lost for words. I feel grossed out and sickened by it, I am debating on writing the BBB, I may return for Veronica but I am just disgusted by the other 2. read more

I took my kids to the Smartstyle in Santee in the Walmart. I was told 20 m. No big deal. So went and did a little shopping, when I came back they still were not ready. Only 2 people working. One of the ladies finally entered us in the computer, she must be OCD because my daughter had her elbow exactly where her little clipboard HAD to go! Well then we ended up waiting another 15 minutes. In that time they complained about the "mess" from my kids playing in the designated carpet area. Which they did clean up, but hey maybe we they can put up some baby gates or play pens for the kids. I let it go. The my son was carrying there small container of toys and they didn't like that either (no he was not dropping them). But another worker tried to take them from him, he's 3. Her reason was that she didn't want them all over and he needed to stay in the designated kids are, the rug. Finally they called up my daughter. I have 3 kids and my oldest is disabled, she was very excited and wanted to watch her sister get her haircut. The stylist told her, you are in my way you can go sit in the kids area. That was the last straw for me! And when I told the ladies that I was done this and we were leaving they defended there actions and said well we have a designated kid area. read more

I'm more than impressed by SmartStyle in the Santee Walmart! I never would have thought to come here if my friend hadn't suggested I try it. So glad I did! My friend suggested I see Sara and I went ahead and gave her a try. She's very talented! No one has ever cut my hair better. Not only that but she's extremely sweet, attentive and professional. She handles business seamlessly considering she's responsible for not only cutting and coloring hair but doing front desk work and answering phones as well. Chris, my stylist, was friendly and open to what my needs are for the perfect hairstyle. The prices are incredibly reasonable. They do perms and hair coloring along with the haircuts. I recently was down in San Diego for a business trip and both times were pleasant experiences. I have been to SmartStyle in the past but it's been many months since my last visit so I had to go with a newer stylist Sara. She was kind and greeted me professionally with excellent customer care. I have family in the beauty industry and I know how someone is suppose to be treated. The services I wanted I suggested both to her and asked her professional opinion and outcomes of both. She was honest and took her time describing in detail to me everything I needed to know and what to expect with desired results. So weighing both in. We decided to go with what was less damaging to my hair over all. Service time took less than expected so that was a plus. For someone on a busy schedule is a real plus for me! I can have everything done in less lengthy time and still be able to get a full set of nails done. She checked in on me frequently. She asked me if I wanted anything while I waited. She handed me a magazine. When everything was finished the results were spectacular! I was blown away on the professional look and it was less damaged than even I thought it would turn out. I was shocked and loved my new look. I couldn't believe her talent and skill. After I was so impressed I decided to also get a cut, blow dry and style. During we made great conversations as with a hairstylist you want someone who can talk to you and keep you occupied. Love her personality. After all was said and done she handed me the mirror and I thought yes I felt younger than I have in a really long time. I loved my results. I look and feel great! Later that day I had a meeting and I got so many compliments and looks. Everybody asked where I got my hair done and suggested how different and fabulous I looked. I loved the attention and professionalism. I was very pleased with my services and the outcome is top notch. I would recommend them to anyone friends, family and coworkers.
