Smartroof Skylight Installation plus a roof

They did my sisters roof and once they get paid they don't come back for poor workmanship/warranty issues. After contacting them numerous times my skylight flashing is coming off that they replaced and looks to be crooked. Next step will be getting an attorney.

Megan from Sky NRG provided a detailed quote and patiently answered my many questions about the different REC panels on the market. I ultimately chose Sky NRG based on my interaction with her and positive reviews on Google and Reddit. I also preferred a local installer in Northern Virginia, and Sky NRG fit that requirement perfectly. We signed the contract on July 26, and the panels were installed on September 10. Megan handled the HOA permissions, and the installation was completed ahead of schedule when Sky NRG found an opening that suited me. Juan and his team managed the installation with careful attention to the aesthetics of the panel placement. Robert, Sky NRG's CEO, was present during the installation, underscoring their commitment to customer satisfaction. We discovered issues with my existing electrical panel during the process, and Robert recommended replacing it. Based on the quality of work by Juan and the overall experience with Sky NRG, I opted to have them handle the panel replacement rather than seeking other bids. Juan completed the job, and I'm pleased with the result. We received Permission To Operate (PTO) from Dominion Energy on October 28, and since then, we've been consistently exporting energy to the grid. I'm delighted with Sky NRG. They never tried to upsell, were always responsive to my questions, and offered a competitive price lower than other bids. Megan and Robert continue to stay involved, and I am confident about their prompt attention to address any future issues. Highly recommended!

This week a different crew came to replace some insulation and to install a "critter guard" to keep animals out from under our panels. When they left, the price of the work was more than 40% higher than what was in the written, itemized estimate. I spoke with Joel, the owner. He told me that the cost of a both the service call and labor had increased, but no explanation was provided for the failure to update the quote. The main increase in the invoice came from the labor time, which was nearly twice what was originally quoted. I asked if the crew was inexperienced so it took them longer, and he told me that he had sent an experienced team who knew what they were doing. They had called him during the work, however, to report that they were slipping on the roofing shingles, so it took nearly twice the usual time to finish the job. They had even tried to use some kind of a safety harness, but it failed to solve the problem. I told Joel that it would have been appropriate for the workers to tell the client that they were not feeling safe on the roof before the work was begun. I never would have allowed anyone to continue working on a roof they claimed was dangerous. Joel then told me this was an inexperienced crew who were unable to assess conditions on the roof until they were well into the job, and at that point, they couldn't really stop working. In sum, I was told that the crew was experienced enough to work efficiently, but they took four hours to complete the job. I was then told they were so inexperienced that they spent those four hours slipping and sliding around on our roof, but we heard no sounds of this inside the house, and nobody informed us there was a problem until it was time to pay. I was told that American Solar decided, without informing us, the homeowners, that they would continue installing materials on a roof that their workers had reported was unsafe. Even setting aside the contradictory statements, we find it difficult to believe that an established company would disregard both safety and liability in this manner. No offer was made to honor the quoted pricing. No offer was made to honor the quoted labor cost. I was simply thanked for my "feedback" and told that "this is why it's called an estimate." We were charged $1200 for 30 feet of insulation and wire guards to keep squirrels from nesting under two solar panels. We paid the invoice in full, an expensive lesson learned. We will use another company for any future needs.

As a family of 4 with 2 full-time working parents and 2 babies under two, Celestial Solar's support was nothing short of amazing for us. Jim and team are a good mix of professional and knowledgeable, and have been (and still are) genuinely nice to me and my family. They understand the complex nature of adding solar panels to your home and provide accurate estimates, recommend the best tech for your situation, walk you through the entire process, and have an awesome installation team who were efficient and installed everything without any hiccups. The extra support they also provide by completing permit paper work and communication on your behalf, mixed with the professional, yet fun, installation workers that my kids really liked, made this experience great for me and my family. We are now a few months into running our system and we have been overproducing energy, while Jim and team still keep in contact to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

If you are considering solar, definitely give Celestial a call!

I'm writing this review before my solar project has concluded. I'll amend this review as necessary…read moreas we finish. I initially contacted Prospect Solar almost a year ago, in gathering information and quotes for a solar installation on my new house. Prospect immediately stood out. They weren't a sales front for a separate installer, they used all their own crews, they were a roofing company with a long reputation in DC, the sales rep was knowledgeable and gave me more and different information than any of the others... they were more expensive, but I felt like I was getting a dependable crew on my roof, a better experience, a higher end product, and dealing with a known, respected company. Sold. Signed. This was in June of 2022. It's now June of 2023, and while I finally have solar panels up on my roof as of a few weeks ago (installation was May 17-19) they aren't approved or turned on yet. I'm not optimistic they'll be switched on this calendar year (ie, in the next 6 months), if that gives you an idea of my overall experience. Pretty much immediately after signing the contract, my experience went downhill. I was passed from my excellent sales rep to a project manager, and that was when the red flags started popping up. One of the first red flags was that I was never explicitly told about the payment schedule, and the demand for the first payment was sprung on me when someone came out for my initial site survey. The payment schedule may have been buried in the contract, but it really feels like this is something that should be explicitly discussed with a client. So it was a little jarring to write a check for thousands of dollars unexpectedly, but whatever. A red flag, but partially my fault maybe, so okay. Sure. After the site survey, communication slowed to a crawl. We spent July through October (so 3-4 months) going back and forth on my roof and permits. This was mostly just dead air on Prospect's end; I wouldn't hear anything from them for weeks at a time, until I sent a frustrated email. This would turn out to be a pattern that would cost months of delay. Then, in October, Prospect revealed that there was some kind of supply chain issue with the manufacturer in China that was preventing my project from moving forward, along with many others. Months of false promises about phantom deliveries, apologies, delays, excuses, etc. later, and suddenly, Prospect has enough of a slightly different panel to service all of its delayed projects. Okay, great? We're now into January of 2023. Six months have gone by, I've paid tens of thousands of dollars, and all I've got is months of radio silence, a hole in my attic, useless permits that have to be re-done because of the change in panels, and nothing else. Communication issues had gotten worse at this point. They'd assure me they were working on permits or whatever, but I wouldn't hear anything for literally months at a time. When I'd email in and ask what the status was, suddenly, progress appeared! It became very obvious that either nothing was getting done, or it was getting done, but stalling out when moving from one step to the next until I sent an angry email and poked the nest. I received a concerned phone call from my sales rep about the lack of communication and I was assured communication would improve, and indeed I was kept more in the loop... for about two weeks. Then it died down again. I finally got details about an impending installation in May, and the installers came out to do my roof a few weeks ago. The crew that did the work was great. Totally professional, got it done in 3 days, a delight to have work on my home. Can't really say for sure how the install went, because I haven't seen any photos or been given any details about the installation. Once again, radio silence from the office. Clearly there's a huge disconnect between the crews out in the field and the folks in the office. Not surprising. So here we are, in June of 2023, a year after I signed my contract. I have panels on my roof (to my surprise), but no inspection scheduled, and Pepco has to do upgrades to the pole outside my house before I can switch my panels on. I have no idea when that's going to happen, and no confidence in Prospect's ability to chase down Pepco and get them to do that work on any kind of a timetable. Waiting a year is bad, but if I'd gotten adequate updates and been kept in the loop the entire time, I might feel differently. I understand Covid, supply chain woes, etc. have thrown things for a loop. But it's very clear to me that I'm not a priority, nor is my project being handled in any kind of professional manner. I email in and complain, and suddenly, things happen and we move along to the next step. They apologize, assure me they hear my concerns, then I'm forgotten about and another month goes by without any kind of update, and we repeat the cycle. Avoid this company at all costs. Stay tuned. Will update.

We signed our contract April 11, installation began May 23 completed in three days. Inspections by the County of Loudoun followed smartly, and then inspections and installation of a new meter by NOVEC. Eight weeks: that's awesome. The Prospect Solar team has been responsive, helpful, timely, very knowledgeable, and capable.
