I also preferred a local installer in Northern Virginia, and Sky NRG fit that requirement perfectly. We signed the contract on July 26, and the panels were installed on September 10. Megan handled the HOA permissions, and the installation was completed ahead of schedule when Sky NRG found an opening that suited me. Juan and his team managed the installation with careful attention to the aesthetics of the panel placement. Robert, Sky NRG's CEO, was present during the installation, underscoring their commitment to customer satisfaction. We discovered issues with my existing electrical panel during the process, and Robert recommended replacing it. Based on the quality of work by Juan and the overall experience with Sky NRG, I opted to have them handle the panel replacement rather than seeking other bids. Juan completed the job, and I'm pleased with the result. I had a very disappointing experience with Solar Solutions and would not recommend them…read more First, I referred my neighbor to them after being told I'd receive a $600 referral credit -- I never got it. When it came time to get panels on my own roof before the tax credit deadline, the process turned into weeks of back-and-forth. At first, they agreed to a price match with a competitor, and I also asked that their 10-year roof leak warranty be extended to 15 years, which they initially agreed to. However, when it came time to sign, they raised the price without any discussion, refused to honor the price match, and said it "should never have been offered." They also bad-mouthed the competitor (which came across as unprofessional) and told me it was essentially "take it or leave it." Given the limited time to secure the tax credit, this was incredibly frustrating. I walked away -- I would rather not install solar at all than work with a company that operates like this. To make matters worse, my neighbor's project (the one I referred) was mishandled as well. His roof needed repairs before solar panels could be installed. Solar Solutions told him they'd address it, but they didn't -- they just installed the panels anyway. When my roofer came out for my home, he also inspected my neighbor's and confirmed the roof needed major repair. My neighbor then had to call Solar Solutions back to remove all the panels so the roof could be fixed. What a mess. In short: broken promises, unprofessional conduct, and careless work. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you're considering solar.

When we read it, they had some dubious terms in there, like forcing us to use them to replace our roofing if we needed to. When speaking to the operations manager, Barklie Eestes, his attitude was one of arrogance and jest. We reached out to him for over a week to get the agreement signed and move the project forward. They then went ahead and sent a contract for the same exact system for nearly $50k. Something their office manager confirmed, "should not have happened." Maybe they didn't like our name or that we actually read through their contract, but all around shady business practice.

This week a different crew came to replace some insulation and to install a "critter guard" to keep animals out from under our panels. When they left, the price of the work was more than 40% higher than what was in the written, itemized estimate. I spoke with Joel, the owner. He told me that the cost of a both the service call and labor had increased, but no explanation was provided for the failure to update the quote. The main increase in the invoice came from the labor time, which was nearly twice what was originally quoted. I asked if the crew was inexperienced so it took them longer, and he told me that he had sent an experienced team who knew what they were doing. They had called him during the work, however, to report that they were slipping on the roofing shingles, so it took nearly twice the usual time to finish the job. They had even tried to use some kind of a safety harness, but it failed to solve the problem. I told Joel that it would have been appropriate for the workers to tell the client that they were not feeling safe on the roof before the work was begun. I never would have allowed anyone to continue working on a roof they claimed was dangerous. Joel then told me this was an inexperienced crew who were unable to assess conditions on the roof until they were well into the job, and at that point, they couldn't really stop working. In sum, I was told that the crew was experienced enough to work efficiently, but they took four hours to complete the job. I was then told they were so inexperienced that they spent those four hours slipping and sliding around on our roof, but we heard no sounds of this inside the house, and nobody informed us there was a problem until it was time to pay. I was told that American Solar decided, without informing us, the homeowners, that they would continue installing materials on a roof that their workers had reported was unsafe. Even setting aside the contradictory statements, we find it difficult to believe that an established company would disregard both safety and liability in this manner. No offer was made to honor the quoted pricing. No offer was made to honor the quoted labor cost. I was simply thanked for my "feedback" and told that "this is why it's called an estimate." We were charged $1200 for 30 feet of insulation and wire guards to keep squirrels from nesting under two solar panels. We paid the invoice in full, an expensive lesson learned. We will use another company for any future needs.

However, the service warrantee expired and the servicer, Omnidian, would not service even though I offered to pay for it. After searching for a solar provider that would actually do repairs and not have ridiculous pricing (one provider wanted to charge a $500 "truck usage" fee, in addition to an hourly rate), I found Revolution Solar who offered a fair and reasonable hourly, I first spoke with Irvin in Sales who immediately connected me with Brian in Operations. Brian arranged for Jose to come out to do the repair. Jose was on time and courteous. Unfortunately, the microinverter manufacturer sent the wrong cable, so the microinverters could not be replaced that day. Jose ordered a replacement cables for me. When they arrived, Jose came back out, again on time, and replaced the microinverters in about an hour. I cannot recommend Revolution Solar enough. When I buy my next house, I will call Revolution Solar directly to arrange for solar panel installation.

What has been most disappointing is that I still do not feel the standby charge issue has been properly addressed, and I have not seen much willingness to take responsibility for the lack of disclosure upfront. I understand that not every issue is simple to resolve, but I would have appreciated more ownership and a more proactive effort to work toward a fair solution. Very disappointing. When they first installed the roof they completely covered the drain hole on…read morethe porch roof and had to completely redo it. This was only because I noticed the issue. Then, just over a year later, the roof leaked and it took them two months to make the repair. After the repair, they refused to repair the interior damage caused by the leak, some minor painting. They claimed it was because the roof damage was weather related, however as the roof was just over a year old, this is ridiculous.

Worst of all, 4) I don't think the solar attic fan they supposedly installed even works as it has made little difference in cooling my home. I said "supposedly" because I don't have access to my attic and I cannot see the roof of my property from the street, so since they installed this while I wasn't home - I haven't personally seen this fan I paid them a G to install.
