GreenBrilliance provided us with a mixed experience. The timeline was quick and the system seems to work fine. But the communications throughout were inconsistent and there were frequent problems with details. We struggled with the contract--they misspelled my name. We struggled with the payments--they couldn't find the money we wired them for a few days. We struggled with installation--they mistakenly had system materials delivered to our house instead of to their warehouse without warning us. So we came home the day before the installation to find the inverter and other elements (another large box, dozens of bolts and long metal poles for mounting the panels) sitting in our front yard. They were apologetic about this, and I was able to move everything into the house, but I can't help wondering what would have happened if I'd already left for work before this was dumped on my lawn. Inverters aren't cheap! What would have happened if it had sat there all day? BUT: our real problems started *after* installation... See, we were determined to install panels *without* drilling holes in the roof. We'd seen panels mounted on the parapets of rowhouses before, and that's what we wanted. This was very important to us, so we asked GreenBrilliance if they drilled through the roof when they installed panels. They assured us that there would be "no penetration involved and no drilling involved." Again, I cannot stress enough that this was very important. It was our final question before signing a contract with them! Our panels were installed in spring 2022. It was a mediocre experience (see above). But then: we found out that GreenBrilliance had misled us about their solar panel installation! They did, in fact, drill holes in our roof! Almost worse...they didn't perform that installation correctly! We had our first roof leak in fall 2023. GreenBrilliance's roofing department came out and explained that the holes in the roof hadn't been correctly caulked by GreenBrilliance. We had our second roof leak in spring 2024. GreenBrilliance's roofing department came out and explained that there were still other holes that hadn't been correctly caulked by GreenBrilliance. I complained to GreenBrilliance about this misrepresentation, and they promised to look into it. For the past 3-4 months, their main response has taken three tracks: 1) to first insist that they're conducting an investigation, 2) to subsequently try to convince me that it is, in fact, best to have holes drilled in solar panel installations, and 3) to stop responding to my emails and phone calls. Upshot: we've been very disappointed in GreenBrilliance's effectiveness AND in their customer service. They misled us about what they were going to do to our house--and then slowly stopped responding to me after I insisted on them reimbursing us for that misrepresentation.

FRAUD ALERT: After Signing the Contract and Paying $5,328.00 in Deposit, Green Brilliance Lied to Me and Forced Me to Sign a New Contract with Completely Different Terms. When I refused, Green Brilliance Refused to Return My Deposit and Is Not Answering My Emails or Calls. Here are the Facts: 1. March 29, 2023: I signed a contract with Green Brilliance to put solar panels on my roof. I vetted them with Energy Sage, who told me they are the oldest and one of the most established providers of solar energy in the DMV area. 2. April 7, 2023: I sent Green Brilliance $5,328 in deposit and submitted photos of my residence. During this time, Green Brilliance responded immediately to my email. 3. April 10, 2023: Sam Albert from Green Brilliance informed me that their "Technical Team" wants me to sign 2 separate contracts because my English basement is separately metered. Sam said that "The reason for doing all this is because it will get things easier for us in terms of application paperwork. Everything is same, please sign when you can." 4. April 11, 2023: I read the contract and realized that the contract was completely different, including: a. Lower production numbers b. Higher Payment c. New Cancellation Policy in Green Brilliance's Favor d. Longer Installation Time e. Deletion of the Warranty Clause that was Previous Negotiated. 5. April 11-May 8, 2023: I tried to communicate with Green Brilliance and asked them to change the terms of the contract back to what we agreed to in the first place. Sam called me INCESSANTLY and lied about making changes when in fact, the changes were not made. He kept on trying to get me to sign the new contract, asking me to "trust him." Finally, after a month of back and forth and reading every word the contract each time and being disappointed, I asked for a refund on May 8. This is when Sam Albert started to ignore my emails. 6. May 15, 2023: Finally, Sam gets back to and told me that they will return my money and that "the process will take 5-7 business days." 7. May 24, 2023: I did not see my money after 7 business days, so I followed up with Sam. Sam told me that I will receive "my full money on 6/15" because Green Brilliance "remit all of [their] expenses in the mid of every month" and asked me to "just wait for few more days." 8. June 15, 2023: I emailed Sam about my refund, and he never responded again. Since then, I continued to email, scheduled meetings, and call Sam Albert. I never heard back from he or anyone else in Green Brilliance. As of Jun 29, 2023, I have not heard back from Green Brilliance or received my deposit back.

First rate residential solar installer. Very competitive pricing, excellent installation quality, and energy consumption seems consistent to better than estimated. I give my highest recommendation to you, if you are considering going solar. -Choose GreenBrilliance, they will not disappoint! They installed a 10.56KW system on my roof, with Silfab panels and Enphase micro-invertors and monitoring. They saved me 20% over the next best bid for the same system. And they came all the way from Sterling to Toano. Installed the system in one day (really about 1/2 a day, but who's really counting).

Water leaking in through rusty nail holes. Bolt on the left was not properly sealed/did not have appropriate washer for roof penetration

In or about June 2016, Green Brilliance (GB) installed solar panels for my neighbors. We live in rowhomes and GB mounted their panels onto the shared parapet wall (see photos). GB did not notify me in advance and did not have permission to access my roof during their installation. Last year, I noticed a ceiling leak above my staircase which was traced back to the fact GB drilled holes in the flashing/wall cap to mount their solar panels and then didn't seal any of the bolts. Not only that, GB damaged my roof, did not notify me of the damage, and made a very poor attempt to fix it (spoiler alert - their fix did not hold up). So for years, water has been leaking in and slowly causing extensive damage to my roof and throughout the inside of my home. Once the leaks last year were traced back to GB's installation, my new neighbors paid a roofer to repair/seal the bolts. However, the leaks restarted over the winter and were again traced back to the solar panels by multiple roofing companies. When anything is mounted on shared property, both parties should be notified and consent as I learned I couldn't even repair my own roof because of GB's panels. If my roofer moved the panels to replace my roof (which was going to cost several thousand extra on top of the repair fees), the panels' warranty would be voided. And if GB removed the panels for my roof repair and remounted them the exact same way that caused the damage in the first place (the only "help" GB was willing to provide), my roof warranty would be voided. In February 2021, I contacted GB to seek assistance (financial and otherwise) for repairs through their business liability insurance. When they stopped responding, I hired an attorney. GB won't respond to him either. I've used the time to get structural engineers and repair companies out to evaluate the damage to my home and what caused it in-depth. It's now the end of April 2021 and I'm looking at over $12,000 for a new roof and $30,000 for crawlspace damage due to water intrusion along the shared wall where GB improperly mounted their panels. And that's just the estimates for "visible damage" - who knows what they'll find once the roof membrane is lifted and work starts in the crawlspace. Please consider my experience a warning for people who live in rowhomes/townhouses. Your property is connected to someone else's - if you do something that can affect your neighbors' property, PLEASE involve them from the start!!! I never got a single benefit from those panels or the fact my old neighbors "went solar" yet am going to be out over $40k to fix damage that I had no part in causing. If your rowhome neighbors are installing solar panels, ask how the company intends to mount the panels. It's cheaper for the company to mount them on the shared wall (parapet-to-parapet) and they might even try to tell you that it's the only option for flat roofs common in DMV area rowhomes. That's an outright lie - they can and should mount the panels ONLY on the roof of the home that benefits to prevent problems like mine. Even if the company properly seals the mounts/bolts, you might have problems finding roofer to accept your job if you ever need to repair or replace your roof. Also, over the years, even the highest quality seals will ultimately fail and you may not notice small amounts of water leaking in until it's too late.

Megan from Sky NRG provided a detailed quote and patiently answered my many questions about the different REC panels on the market. I ultimately chose Sky NRG based on my interaction with her and positive reviews on Google and Reddit. I also preferred a local installer in Northern Virginia, and Sky NRG fit that requirement perfectly. We signed the contract on July 26, and the panels were installed on September 10. Megan handled the HOA permissions, and the installation was completed ahead of schedule when Sky NRG found an opening that suited me. Juan and his team managed the installation with careful attention to the aesthetics of the panel placement. Robert, Sky NRG's CEO, was present during the installation, underscoring their commitment to customer satisfaction. We discovered issues with my existing electrical panel during the process, and Robert recommended replacing it. Based on the quality of work by Juan and the overall experience with Sky NRG, I opted to have them handle the panel replacement rather than seeking other bids. Juan completed the job, and I'm pleased with the result. We received Permission To Operate (PTO) from Dominion Energy on October 28, and since then, we've been consistently exporting energy to the grid. I'm delighted with Sky NRG. They never tried to upsell, were always responsive to my questions, and offered a competitive price lower than other bids. Megan and Robert continue to stay involved, and I am confident about their prompt attention to address any future issues. Highly recommended!

In my case, that timeline was not met, and I had to request an extension, which I understand may or may not be approved. I potentially lost funding for thousands of dollars. The installation process took significantly longer than originally indicated. My project began in August of last year, and I did not receive permission to operate until mid-April of this year. in my experience, communication was inconsistent, with delays in responses and updates. In early to mid-March, I reached out multiple times and was told there were no updates. After escalating my inquiry, I was later informed that a visit had already been scheduled for the following week, which I had not previously been made aware of. This was confusing and raised concerns for me about how scheduling was communicated. Why are they making in house access appointment without ever confirming with me and telling me no appointment has been made at the same time? During one visit, I observed that the door was left open for periods of time in very cold weather (in the 20s °F), despite my requests to keep it closed. When I raised these concerns, I felt that my feedback was not fully acknowledged, as the responses I received focused more on explanations than on addressing the issues I had raised. Overall, my experience was frustrating and did not meet my expectations for professionalism.

I'm writing this review before my solar project has concluded. I'll amend this review as necessary…read moreas we finish. I initially contacted Prospect Solar almost a year ago, in gathering information and quotes for a solar installation on my new house. Prospect immediately stood out. They weren't a sales front for a separate installer, they used all their own crews, they were a roofing company with a long reputation in DC, the sales rep was knowledgeable and gave me more and different information than any of the others... they were more expensive, but I felt like I was getting a dependable crew on my roof, a better experience, a higher end product, and dealing with a known, respected company. Sold. Signed. This was in June of 2022. It's now June of 2023, and while I finally have solar panels up on my roof as of a few weeks ago (installation was May 17-19) they aren't approved or turned on yet. I'm not optimistic they'll be switched on this calendar year (ie, in the next 6 months), if that gives you an idea of my overall experience. Pretty much immediately after signing the contract, my experience went downhill. I was passed from my excellent sales rep to a project manager, and that was when the red flags started popping up. One of the first red flags was that I was never explicitly told about the payment schedule, and the demand for the first payment was sprung on me when someone came out for my initial site survey. The payment schedule may have been buried in the contract, but it really feels like this is something that should be explicitly discussed with a client. So it was a little jarring to write a check for thousands of dollars unexpectedly, but whatever. A red flag, but partially my fault maybe, so okay. Sure. After the site survey, communication slowed to a crawl. We spent July through October (so 3-4 months) going back and forth on my roof and permits. This was mostly just dead air on Prospect's end; I wouldn't hear anything from them for weeks at a time, until I sent a frustrated email. This would turn out to be a pattern that would cost months of delay. Then, in October, Prospect revealed that there was some kind of supply chain issue with the manufacturer in China that was preventing my project from moving forward, along with many others. Months of false promises about phantom deliveries, apologies, delays, excuses, etc. later, and suddenly, Prospect has enough of a slightly different panel to service all of its delayed projects. Okay, great? We're now into January of 2023. Six months have gone by, I've paid tens of thousands of dollars, and all I've got is months of radio silence, a hole in my attic, useless permits that have to be re-done because of the change in panels, and nothing else. Communication issues had gotten worse at this point. They'd assure me they were working on permits or whatever, but I wouldn't hear anything for literally months at a time. When I'd email in and ask what the status was, suddenly, progress appeared! It became very obvious that either nothing was getting done, or it was getting done, but stalling out when moving from one step to the next until I sent an angry email and poked the nest. I received a concerned phone call from my sales rep about the lack of communication and I was assured communication would improve, and indeed I was kept more in the loop... for about two weeks. Then it died down again. I finally got details about an impending installation in May, and the installers came out to do my roof a few weeks ago. The crew that did the work was great. Totally professional, got it done in 3 days, a delight to have work on my home. Can't really say for sure how the install went, because I haven't seen any photos or been given any details about the installation. Once again, radio silence from the office. Clearly there's a huge disconnect between the crews out in the field and the folks in the office. Not surprising. So here we are, in June of 2023, a year after I signed my contract. I have panels on my roof (to my surprise), but no inspection scheduled, and Pepco has to do upgrades to the pole outside my house before I can switch my panels on. I have no idea when that's going to happen, and no confidence in Prospect's ability to chase down Pepco and get them to do that work on any kind of a timetable. Waiting a year is bad, but if I'd gotten adequate updates and been kept in the loop the entire time, I might feel differently. I understand Covid, supply chain woes, etc. have thrown things for a loop. But it's very clear to me that I'm not a priority, nor is my project being handled in any kind of professional manner. I email in and complain, and suddenly, things happen and we move along to the next step. They apologize, assure me they hear my concerns, then I'm forgotten about and another month goes by without any kind of update, and we repeat the cycle. Avoid this company at all costs. Stay tuned. Will update.

This week a different crew came to replace some insulation and to install a "critter guard" to keep animals out from under our panels. When they left, the price of the work was more than 40% higher than what was in the written, itemized estimate. I spoke with Joel, the owner. He told me that the cost of a both the service call and labor had increased, but no explanation was provided for the failure to update the quote. The main increase in the invoice came from the labor time, which was nearly twice what was originally quoted. I asked if the crew was inexperienced so it took them longer, and he told me that he had sent an experienced team who knew what they were doing. They had called him during the work, however, to report that they were slipping on the roofing shingles, so it took nearly twice the usual time to finish the job. They had even tried to use some kind of a safety harness, but it failed to solve the problem. I told Joel that it would have been appropriate for the workers to tell the client that they were not feeling safe on the roof before the work was begun. I never would have allowed anyone to continue working on a roof they claimed was dangerous. Joel then told me this was an inexperienced crew who were unable to assess conditions on the roof until they were well into the job, and at that point, they couldn't really stop working. In sum, I was told that the crew was experienced enough to work efficiently, but they took four hours to complete the job. I was then told they were so inexperienced that they spent those four hours slipping and sliding around on our roof, but we heard no sounds of this inside the house, and nobody informed us there was a problem until it was time to pay. I was told that American Solar decided, without informing us, the homeowners, that they would continue installing materials on a roof that their workers had reported was unsafe. Even setting aside the contradictory statements, we find it difficult to believe that an established company would disregard both safety and liability in this manner. No offer was made to honor the quoted pricing. No offer was made to honor the quoted labor cost. I was simply thanked for my "feedback" and told that "this is why it's called an estimate." We were charged $1200 for 30 feet of insulation and wire guards to keep squirrels from nesting under two solar panels. We paid the invoice in full, an expensive lesson learned. We will use another company for any future needs.
