We're deeply disappointed with our experience with Ipsun Solar. We purchased a battery backup, and there was a long period of silence between installation and permission to operate. We received permission to operate conveniently right after we followed up after several months of silence. Then, following the permission to operate status, we had press again in order to receive instructions to turn the battery on. We received a pdf for us to follow the instructions on our own. When we did so, the entire house lost power. The Ipsun electrician was able to restore power to the house, but not to fix the issue with the battery. In the days that have followed, we ask for an update each day and receive either radio silence or deferral of responsibility to the battery manufacturer. In addition, as a result of the battery issue, our solar panels (not acquired through Ipsun) are now not functioning. Overall, communication, project management, and follow-through have been terrible. read more

Designed and installed roof panel system for my house. Was very pleased with service & workmanship. Now I get no electricity bill most months and can charge my two electric cars for free (Tesla & Chevy Bolt). I also get a few hundred dollar check every quarter for sale of carbon offset credits, which Ipsun helped set up for me. I see a couple of negative reviews - not my experience at all - these installs are complicated and involve coordination with utility company and county building inspector - both difficult to work with - Ipsun helped manage all of that drama for me. Great company with a great team, from their sales rep to their technicians and support team. Communication was great as they kept in touch with me throughout the whole process, from planning to final install and beyond. Very happy with the whole experience. Would highly recommend them. Our relationship was a long one, spanning months, as I had reached out to them during the planning of my home addition. Josh Butler, their sales manager, worked diligently with me, my contractor and my loan company so I could include solar into my home construction loan and architectural plans. The whole process was very well coordinated. I decided to get as many panels as I could fit on my roof to achieve my independence from the grid, and 2 Enphase batteries to allow me to work from home and enjoy my comforts during power outages. My system has been active since mid Jan 2023 and so far I have been delighted with the results. During winter months my electric bill went down by 2/3 rd and since March it has been $0! Whenever a storm is brewing my way, the system sends me an alert and directs priority to charge my batteries to 100%, ready to provide me with continued power in case of outage. At night during the last 2 months, and on 2 occasions, I've had the pleasure of watching TV uninterrupted for 2 hours while the rest of my neighborhood was without power. The solar system from IPSUN has not only met all my needs, but exceeded them. Can't recommend them enough. read more

We have had a terrible experience getting our solar panels installed by Ipsun because of four issues with their work: 1) They overpromise and under deliver - we were originally given a quote for 20 panels, which was more panels than quotes we received from other companies. I'm not sure if they aren't good at initial estimates or if they were intentionally generous to get us on the hook. Our final system was only 13 panels, which is smaller than any quotes we originally received. 2) They are extremely slow - I signed a contract with Ipsun 7 months ago, panels were put up more than 2 months ago and I still can't turn my solar panels on. They blamed the city and power company for adding time into the process, but my neighbor chose a different solar company (after we signed with Ipsun!) and didn't experience any of the same delays. My neighbor's panels have been on for 5 months now and went up within 4 weeks of signing their contract. 3) Poor communication - It felt like pulling teeth to get people at Ipsun to respond to our emails and we regularly went 4-6 weeks without hearing from them. I had to ask multiple times that they keep both my husband and I copied on emails to us. Our project manager failed to let us know when things were happening, for instance he didn't tell us he had submitted a Dig Safe request, so we were surprised to have someone on our property marking power lines one day. 4) Poor quality - On install day they called to tell us that our new roof (put on by the contractor they recommended!) had bigger vents than the original roof and we lost another panel. We had asked if they needed to do a second site survey after the new roof was put on and we were told no, which would have avoided the surprise with the vents. Then our system failed its inspection from the city because it wasn't grounded properly. After supposedly passing the second inspection on the electric, they had some sort of permit issue and now we are waiting on a THIRD inspection. We chose Ipsun to install our solar panels because they had done my friend's system a year earlier and he had been really happy with their work. My theory is that in the year between my friend's install and ours that Ipsun grew too quickly and they have been unable to keep up with demand or that they have failed to either adequately train their new staff or failed to get their staff the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. Either way, I recommend going with a different solar installer until they figure themselves out. read more

The decision to Install solar panels is complex with large cost implications. Ipsun Solar's sales staff did a fantastic job, and came up with an excellent price. The work was on schedule, the installation handled by a well-trained crew, the county inspection and approval process managed well, and the interaction with Dominion Power to activate the system handled smoothly. Ladies and gentlemen - when it came to resolving issues with our project, it took weeks to get a response from Ipsun. But bring these issues into the public sphere, and they'll respond in a fraction of the time. Shameful. (Although not as shameful of having the owner's wife write a 5* review, as happened below...or having employees, relatives, and "social media contractors" writing similarly inflated reviews on other forums in clear violation of their policies. Certainly explains the disconnect in reviews vs. reality mentioned earlier!) Ipsun had over a year to make this right - Herve (CEO), Joe (VP), Chris (COO), and virtually their entire team were fully aware of our situation, and punted at every opportunity - if your leadership can't make this right, who can? Why should I need "Hanna W." (not the business owner, btw) to advocate on our behalf when the actual business owner himself never had the courtesy to so much as respond to a single email or call from a customer? If "operations are running smoothly" entails sending employees with zero experience installing Powerwalls to our residence in a vain attempt to resolve issues with ours, then we have very different definitions of a business "running smoothly." As you're well aware from another forum, I'm not in your database as the project is under my husband's name, and I'm not about to provide personal details in public. If you can't figure out which account this is based on the info provided (location...products...timeframe...litany of issues), then you've pretty much confirmed the complete lack of organization over at Ipsun - not to be trusted with an investment of this magnitude. read more

Got solar panels, car charger, and "heavy-up" panel upgrade. Love my set-up. Have a great car charger that takes advantage of my car's ability to pull 48amps when I need to charge the car quickly or when I have a guest that needs to use my charger. When I have the opportunity to top-up the charge in my car and charge more slowly, I am able charge during the day time and use the app that Ipsun provides to match the car charge rate with the solar production of my panels, charging my car with clean solar energy. When I'm not using my solar energy for my car, I am putting excess energy to the electric grid, getting a reduction on my electric bill (plus, I will be getting a 26% tax credit for the solar panels). I first became aware of Ipsun when my Enphase Envoy suddenly quit on me and they happened to be the closest Enphase provider in my area (Washington DC Metro). They responded with lightening speed to send me a replacement and followed up to be sure I was able to install it with no problems. At the end of December we had part of our roof torn off in a wind storm and had to have it quickly replaced. Ipsun to the rescue to have our existing system moved off the roof so that repairs could be done. So impressed with their work and feeling like a VIP client, I looked to them to expand on my system. They innovated a solar awning to allowed for an additional 5 panels that beautifully integrated into our system. Not only did it add to our power production, it also works having a passive effect! I highly recommend Ipsun and if I had more room would absolutely have them expand even more on my system. read more

We have been very happy with our whole experience with Ipsun Power. Ipsun installed 18 solar panels on our home's newly replaced roof in the Tysons Corner area. Their pricing was almost identical to the other company we looked at (Tesla), i.e., about $1,000 per panel installed (or ~$700 after the 30% tax credit). So we decided between them on the basis of service. At that point, Tesla had not yet absorbed SolarCity but was selling SolarCity panels and installation. SolarCity had a lot of bad reviews online for workmanship and customer service. Ipsun had great reviews, but very few of them, which was a different concern for us. In the end, Ipsun's founder, Herve Billiet, won us over with his honest, detail-oriented responses to our questions; he is an engineer by training, not a salesman. At Tesla we had been working with a salesman who was very responsive and thoughtful but had no on-the-ground experience with solar panels. As an example of what I mean: Tesla's salesperson drafted our project plan by using a Google satellite image of our home's roof, and filling the roof area with little PhotoShop images of solar panels at the correct scale, as many of them as he could fit, to make the job size as big as possible. By doing it this way, his "plan" accidentally covered one of our two chimneys with solar panels. (He also put panels all over the north side of our roof, which gets much less light.) Obviously Tesla would've fine-tuned the project plan after doing a site visit, but we felt nervous about whether the salesman and the site team would interface well, and whether we were being asked to agree to a project before the details were clear. We also felt a pressure at Tesla to max out the project size. On the other hand, Ipsun's owner, Herve Billiet, initially gave us the same type of Google satellite-image pre-estimate, but he insisted on a site visit before going any further, and he did the site visit himself. He ended up coming back multiple times, and answered a dozen detailed emails, before we would commit. He used a tool that digitally modeled the height of our surrounding trees (because they block our sunlight, but only at certain hours and in certain seasons) and another tool that estimated how much sunlight each part of our roof got on every individual day of the year. His estimate was based on an individual sunlight model of our specific home. We even compared it to real-life daily photos at certain times of day. *That* decided our panel placement. Ipsun took care of all the permitting and the mandatory new utility meter from Dominion Energy (a digital meter that can operate in reverse, for those hours when you are sending power back to the grid). Ipsun's installation team was respectful and professional, and in the nine months since our initial install, Herve has responded quickly to the two issues that have come up. Neither issue was Ipsun's fault, more of a "user error" situation, yet on both occasions they sent a full team out to inspect the system. Our Ipsun system also comes with a phone app that lets us track our solar production hourly, daily, weekly, etc, and lets Ipsun do monitoring from afar. On a couple of occasions, they have proactively reached out to me to make sure everything was going okay. (Once was to ask me to re-start the little app-monitoring device, which suggests that someone at Ipsun really is paying attention to all the data.) We have been very happy with solar in general, and very happy with Ipsun in particular. We ended up having Tesla install a separate piece of our system (two Powerwall home-backup batteries), and while those have been good products (with solid installation and a fantastic iPhone app), Tesla's customer service has been erratic, and in a couple of cases downright weird, so I am doubly glad that we had Ipsun do our solar panel installation. One last thing about solar in general, for anyone considering it: sometimes you hear people say that the "new" solar panels these days will "pay for themselves in just a few years." That was not our expectation and it has not been our experience. Our Ipsun system consists of 18 panels rated at 350 watts (= max output in full sun), so the total system rating is 6,300 watts (6.3 kilowatts). Before we signed our contract, Ipsun gave us a month-by-month prediction of how much electricity (solar power) it would produce. The estimate predicted about 200 kilowatt-hours in the whole month of January (worst month) and about 700 kwh in June (best month), for a yearly predicted total of 5,900 kwh. Their estimate has so far been very accurate (slightly low). Dominion Energy charges us about 12 cents per kwh for grid electricity, so this solar system that cost us about $12,600 after the tax credit ($18,000 - 30%) makes about $700 of "free" electricity per *year*, and thus will take 18 years to pay for itself at current electric rates. Be aware -- but we are very happy with our choice! read more

We didn't know much about the details of solar technology and Ipsun patiently answered every question we had. Once we signed they efficiently took care of permitting and HOA approvals. One of our favorite parts was how well they kept us informed. We received an email update every Tuesday, so we knew how things were moving along. Installation day was wonderful. They showed up when they said they would, were respectful, were very kind and patient with a curious toddler, and cleaned up when they were done.
