Extreme lack of professionalism and blatant lack of respect for families- I visited this dealership with the expectation of purchasing a used Toyota Highlander- My wife and I needed a vehicle for our newborn baby that had rear seat air conditioning in the midst of this less than bearable summer- I was then greeted by the owner of the dealership who began to claim that I "rubbed him the wrong way" a year ago due to a concern I had about the dealership exploiting ignorant and excited first time buyers. I was there to purchase a vehicle, not to provide a therapy session to the apparently now ( or always) overly sensitive owner. All of this was very strange and highly irrelevant to purchasing a car for my 6 month old daughter, who is sitting in front of this disgruntled man, by the way. I was then denied the opportunity to purchase a vehicle, mostly for the needs of my newborn daughter, due to this man's inability to separate personal matters from business matters. Good job, DriveSmart. Certainly not "smart" at all on your part. In fact, we DroveElsewhere and purchased a Highlander for well under 10k, with 120k miles on it. *My wife had purchased a vehicle that unfortunately ended up breaking down about a year later (with very mild commuting to and from work), due to dealership neglecting to inform my wife of any future repairs or checkups that the car might have needed or had already been completed. Alas, I was informed that the dealership only needed to complete the bare minimum to sell the cars. *Point- DriveSmart sells auction lot cars in already poor condition to people that don't know any better. My car overheated driving from Santa Cruz down to Disneyland with my kids , and it had been doing this regularly for about a year so it became clear once I got to my hotel that it was time to get a new car. In a city that I was unfamiliar with- not ideal. After reading multiple reviews for various car dealerships I went with Taylor at DriveSmart. I was surprised when he responded to my late night email promptly the next day and it was obvious in his response he actually read my email and wasn't just giving me the usual sales pitch you might expect. I was super skeptical about going to a used car lot but my credit sucks and I didn't have a lot of choices Taylor was honest , to the point, fast and streamlined the whole process of me getting a new car to take my kids home. When he realized he forgot to do something that he had offered to do, he went above and beyond to fix the oversight , I have TERRIBLE credit and with a decent chunk of cash down he was able to put into into a car that I LOVE and get me financed for the remainder of the loan ( I have the credit nobody wants to finance) and for that I am SO SO GRATEFUL. Not only do I have a beautiful car but I am helping my credit with this loan, it's a huge deal for me. The man I did my paperwork with ( not Taylor , I was sleep deprived from Disney and can't remember his name I think it was Gino ??) was beyond kind and courteous , prompt, no hassle, easy peezy lemon squeezy. I just purchased this beautiful Altima.... I test drove the car around the block and fell in love. As I'm leaving the dealership, the car starts to seem as if it was stalling, I call Alex back to let him know, and also take it to Autozone to get a diagnostic and come to find out there were two minor issues, so Alex gives me a rental while my car is getting fixed.. the car is working better, I've had it for two days and it started again, so Monday morning I'm getting it serviced at altima, fingers crossed it gets fixed for me and my kids safety by drive smart and nothing major! First and foremost I want to say that we came to DriveSmart based on the reviews, and yes, even paid attention to the bad ones for a better perspective. With that we decided to seek out DriveSmart when we were ready. I applied via their website for Financing (on a Wednesday), since I don't look great on paper financially - I wanted to see what they could do. Within an hour I got a call/text from Brian letting me know that he received my information and wanted to get some additional info from me. When I was able to contact Brian, we went over what I was looking for (monthly payment amount, size/capacity of vehicle etc.). Also, that my credit has seen better days and I'm not even sure they could get me financed. He let me know that they specialize in helping people rebuild their credit, with that said, they would see what they could do. An hour later, I got a text letting me know I was approved. We scheduled to meet that weekend and he sent me info on which vehicles they had on the lot that would work for our needs - for financing and what we were looking for in a vehicle. Just wanted to point out that we live far from DriveSmart, Brian and I worked most of the details out prior to our visit because he understood that no one should have to waste their time. Out of the 5 vehicles he showed me, we were interested in 2 BUT before we could get there only 1 out of the ones we wanted was available. So we went to DriveSmart that Sunday. Brian was busy with another customer BUT had the key for the vehicle we settled on and let us take it for a drive while he finished with the other customer. It was nice to be able to do that as we could take our time, open and shut things... you know the usual when checking out a car. Since we had all the paperwork ready to go, we were there and out in 2 hours (I've never been at any car sales that went this quickly). This is where we ran into some problem. While doing some errands that same night, the check engine light came on. Right away I texted Brian and let him know, he asked for us to check some things out. Since we settled on a 2004 Lexus RX330, he wanted us to make sure the gas cap was sealed (since we did fill up) and that we used premium gas. Well, we know it wasn't the gas cap but we checked again anyways. And we haven't used anything but premium gas for the last 10 yrs, so we knew that wasn't it. Since my husband does work on our cars, we had a code reader on hand. Found that it was one of the two catalytic convertors ($$$$$ OMG). I have to say, this was disconcerting. This is where Taylor, the owner of DriveSmart, got involved. Even though we know with a used vehicle there can be concerns, but not expecting anything to happen right after we get the vehicle. Well, Taylor (and Brian) has changed our outlook on car salesman...maybe not in the whole but them for sure. He had someone come pick up our car and he gave us one to use until the issue was fixed. Also, brought our car back to us. They went above and beyond what I would typically expect from a used car dealership. Saw a vehicle I liked online and came close to closing time to inspect a vehicle, Alex was super accommodating and gave me keys and free range to the vehicle for my inspection. Told me they would love my trade in on their lot. Made me feel confident in trusting them. Came the next day with the vehicle, passed the owner through the door, and not even a hello from him, Alex, however, greeted me properly. Once again, he had no problems letting me inspect the vehicle in daylight while they evaluated my vehicle. This is where it went downhill. Went into the office to talk numbers and they offered me 2500 less than average AUCTION value (mmr) for my trade in and 3000 less than even CarMax offered me. When Alex asked me what I would like to see out of the deal in its entirety, I stated my terms and while on the phone with the owner, Alex blurted out "no nevermind, this guy is just wasting our time". I've never stood up and walked out as fast as I did. Keep in mind, I was fully expecting a counter offer as I do understand they need to pay people and keep a business running. It was a great dealership experience until it came down to the dollar signs, then they became typical salesman.
