Smallcakes made the most delicious cupcakes for a promotion party at work. There were so many flavors to choose from and not one single complaint. Everyone got to pick a cupcake of their tasting. These cupcakes also seemed larger then the average cupcake, but I'm definitely not complaining. The icing to cake ratio is perfect, they are not overly sweet nor do they taste like pure sugar like some places. Fantastic flavoring. Surprisingly the Wedding Cake was my favorite! I called the store to ask if they had them and the gentleman on the said yes, but they sell pretty fast so if I was coming later in the day I may want to place an order. Anyway, days later I decided to go there. Only to find out that the gentleman I spoke to was wrong about the Boston Cream Pie. They had Boston Cream Cupcakes instead so I purchased those and I purchased a Lemon Cupcake along with a Chocolate one. Well I must say it was the best decision going there. My friend loved the Boston Cream Cupcakes. And my other friend also enjoyed the Lemon Cupcake. The Chocolate Cupcake was fresh and very rich and delicious. While I was there I signed up for information about Small Cakes and I received a free cupcake on my next visit. Even if I didn't receive the free cupcake I was still going to come back. HOLY. SCHNIKES. Have a big sweet tooth and love cupcakes? Then this is your place! Recently opened off of Busy Street near the intersection of Courthouse Rd and Midlothian Tnpk, Small Cakes is actually not small at all...in terms of size or flavor (or price). Exceptional quality and outstanding selection! The cupcakes are all huge (about the size of a softball), moist, and flavorful. The Boston Cream Pie and Peanut Butter Cup were outstanding, with honorable mention going to Lemon Drop. I love the fact that they have a standard set menu, with only a small number changing each day (that is one of my bigger frustrations with other places like Frostings or Pearl's), and they actually have descriptions of each on display, including which are filled and which are not. My main detractor from 5 Stars here is the combo of price and size. At over $3 a piece, these are pretty pricey and there isn't much of a volume discount if you want to try several flavors. Further, these are not small cupcakes and aren't really kid friendly (unless you want them bouncing off of the walls for 9 hours on the mother of all sugar highs). Personally, I'd rather pay $1 less for a smaller cupcake that is more manageable per serving. But that's just me. read more

My coworker ordered a chocolate cream cake for my and another coworker's August 14th birthday. Not only did it look exactly like a giant Hostess cupcake, it tasted better! The cake was moist and delicious, and you would think that the ganache frosting would be too much, but it was perfect! Found this place thanks to Yelp. Was looking for a cupcake shop to make a couple dozen cupcakes for a very late wedding party my husband and I were throwing. I was at Costco in Midlothian and this shop is about 5 mins up the road. I walked in and man did the cupcakes look good! They have 2 special daily cupcakes and then normal ones that don't change. The size is very large and the toppings were gorgeous. I wish I had snapped a photo. I decided to place an order as well as take a pineapple upside down cupcake home. The process was easy and they have a rewards program which seems legit. By the time I got home I had a free cupcake and something else. Due to a death in the family I had to call and cancel the order and ask for a refund and the shop owner couldn't have been nicer and a refund was issued promptly. Thanks for making it easy. It was 11:00 and they opened at 12. We looked through the window and I saw all the beautiful cupcakes and saw wedding cake cupcakes, my favorite! After my mani/pedi I went straight to Smallcakes and was weak. I bought 2 wedding cake, 1 Boston cream and 1 lemon. They are all delicious! Even the cake is moist and the icing perfect. I used to love to go to small cakes to get henpupcakes which are 4 tiny cakes with a little dog bone. my dogs loved them and the started out a $3.99. last time I went to buy them they were $7.99. that is ridiculous since there isn't any more than 4 tiny not regular sized cup cakes.
