Featuring a changing/rotating menu of cookies, pies, and cakes, this quaint shop was recently opened by a local Richmond family with the dream of feeding your soul one baked good at a time! At their soft opening over the weekend, I sampled just about everything they had to offer. Not only are the sweet tears gorgeous to look at, they are also ridiculously delicious. Of the three cookie choices, the dark chocolate chip cookie with sea salt was my favorite. Rich, buttery, with the perfect balance of salt, sweet, and semi-bitter dark chocolate. Perfectly crunchy edges with a soft, chewy center. The decadent Death by Chocolate brownie was also a knockout. I'm still trying to understand what voodoo magic was used to create the perfectly crisp edges and the sublimely moist, chewy center! While delectable by itself, I fully intend to go back for more to make a brownie sundae next time I need to eat my feelings. At the suggestion of one of the kiddos behind the counter, I opted for the carrot cake over the berry pie. Hard to go wrong here with this classic cake and it definitely did not disappoint. It's on par with any southern grandma's cake but only better! Pies and Cakes also does custom orders with advanced notice! Prior to the brick and mortar, we ordered cakes for several special occasions that were always as beautifully decorated as they were tasty! And as if all this weren't enough, they will have bi-monthly pizza pop ups featuring their very own homemade sourdough! Pizza nights will be pre-order only and will be announced via social media so make sure and follow for updates!

There was one employee doing his best to simultaneously take orders and prepare them so it took quite awhile. We were excited to see a funnel cake flight option and were surprised to see it priced at only $11. We splurged and added 2 ice cream scoops. Upon payment, we found out there is a $1 upcharge per each funnel cake we got in the flight, I guess because they weren't the original. This was not disclosed on the menu and the selling point of a flight is to try multiple flavors. Also once we received our order, the ice cream scoops were just small slivers of ice cream scooped in a curved way to make it look like it was full - definitely not worth a $3 "scoop". With tip, this plate ended up costing $24. The funnel cakes themselves were enjoyable and the employee was very friendly so we didn't leave feeling too disappointed by the prices.

Andre was great, he came in and shared his story with the kids and then have them line up to add toppings on their funnel cake to personalize them. We had strawberries (personal fave), oreos, fruit loops, blueberries, peaches, walnuts, chocolate and many more to choose from , plus the fan favorite white powdered sugar. I Couldnt decide, so I tried blueberries, strawberries and peaches, and I have to say ALL three were delicious, even together on the funnel cake, who knew!?

It's an adorable, quaint shop, with no indoor seating, which just adds to its charm. There's always the same friendly woman working the front, while the owner bakes in the back. I tried the viral fruit entremet and chose the mango and raspberry flavors. The mango entremet featured a delicious custard and mango filling within a beautiful hard shell, but my personal favorite was the raspberry. The raspberry custard paired with the raspberry filling was truly outstanding. I also sampled their chicken sandwich croissant, made with their homemade croissant. It was super filling; although I thought the chicken salad could use a little more seasoning, it was still enjoyable. I'll definitely be back to try more pastries and I might even book them for an event!

There is some off-street parking, but depending on when you go, it might be hard to find. There is a private parking lot across the street which would be ideal if they allowed us to park there. Maybe Bruster's can strike a deal. This place is set up for you to walk up to a window. It is very secured behind a glass. The menu is up top and you place your order and wait for your name to be called. There are some benches around the establishment to sit and enjoy your ice-cream. Let me say, the employees are all very nice. Good customer service. This was my first visit. The cashier was friendly. I ordered a banana split which comes with 3 scoops of ice-cream. I was able to change the usually vanilla, chocolate and strawberry scoop to a scoop of Gooey Birthday Cake, Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It also came with chocolate syrup, pineapples, strawberries, cherries, pretzel stick and whip cream. You can ask for caramel syrup and sprinkles too. On my first visit, I paid full price for the banana split. On my second visit, I came on a Thursday because if you bring a banana, the banana split is half price, so it's $5. It was delicious! The pics with the sprinkles is from my first visit. Definitely go check them out.
