My favorite favorite place!!! I love getting my birthday cake from here, a Kentucky bourbon flavor. It's bourbon vanilla cake with pecans and chocolate chips with cream cheese frosting. I discovered the flavor through a "cake box" and have been going back for the flavor ever since. Behind birthday cake, the cupcakes are always fresh and moist, with generous amounts of frosting and fillings (as a good cupcake should be). With the exception of the chocolate frosting, which is more of a sticky ganache (in the best way), the frosting tends to be a buttercream consistency. The workers are always kind and knowledgeable of the flavors. Beyond the basic monthly flavors, they rotate monthly flavors and usually have even more flavors from the cake box and slice section. read more

My wife had one of the Red Velvet, and within seconds, her aura disappeared within the aroma and taste of this creation. When I asked my wife if I could taste some of this cupcake, she acted as if I asked for an organ. She did rave about how delicate the taste was. They only allow 2 customers in at a time which I have no problem with. What I DO have a problem with, however, is poor customer service. The young lady who waited on me was NOT friendly & didn't say a word to me, even after I spoke to her. She kind of just stood there looking at me like I was a bother. Now, usually, I'd leave because places like that do not deserve my coins. BUT I wanted a treat & I wanted a cupcake. I ordered 3 cupcakes: Sweet Potato Casserole, Oreo, & one with sprinkles for my son. I have a punch card from a different Smallcakes & asked if they accepted it. She said they didn't and they use phone numbers instead, so I signed up with her. She then abruptly told me to insert my card & asked if I needed a receipt. I took the receipt and thanked her, but I really wanted to tell her off. Lucky for her, cupcakes make me HAPPY & I didn't let her nasty attitude bother me too much. The cupcakes were yummy, as usual. My friend did not enjoy Sweet Potato Casserole one though. The flavors did nothing for him. I'm not sure if I'll come back to this location. I really like that they have a lot of creative toppings to choose from and the quality is top notch. Best of all, the icing to cake ratio is perfect. Went in as a spur of the moment thing to research some local bakeries for an order I needed in the future for a friend that has soy allergies. Thankfully the company has listed on their bakery case a list of all allergens they used which was really nice to have listed out! We elected to try a chocolate/chocolate, a chocolate /peanutbuttee, and the strawberry cheesecake as well as the birthday cake one (unfortunately the person helping most have misheard me and we realized when we got home we were missing the 4th cupcake). The strawberry cheesecake was the crowd favorite , refreshing and light and airy but the chunks of cheese cake it it were devine. The chocolate peanut butter was a hit too. The chocolate was good but the icing didn't taste chocolate lily enough for me personally, it tasted more like normal buttercream icing with a chocolate hint. They also offer mini cupcakes, Icecream and sundaes that future a cup full of a cupcake cut up with Icecream in it! I had my first experience with Smallcakes when they were in their temporary location at Stony Point Fashion Park this past holiday season. They must have been fairly successful because when we went they only had 2 cupcakes, which was disappointing. I had much better success with this visit, picking up 6 cupcakes to take home and share with the family. The shop was cute and clean, the workers very friendly, but also very busy. It was clear from the sounds and smells that they were baking up more delicious cupcakes behind the scenes. All of the cupcakes were a big hit. They are not wussy little cupcakes either. And wow, were they fresh and moist and so flavorful. If you are seeking out a specific treat you cannot go wrong here. This is our favorite cupcake store we have tried in the Richmond, West Henrico, and Chesterfield areas so far. The cake is always moist and simple then the icing is amazing. My husband hates cupcakes but loves them from here. My sister drives across town just to get cupcakes here. I had never been here before but my sister highly recommended it, since her boyfriend's family always gets their cakes for special occasions from here. They open at 10am which was super convenient since we were rushed to get cupcakes for my grandfather's birthday. A coworker suggested I make a visit to Small Cakes recently and I finally made my way there. Upon first impression it is this cute little shop filled with 15 kinds of cupcakes in perfect looking displays. After choosing 6 for almost under $20 I was pretty cool with my purchase. (I cant lie I may have scoffed at the price for a second...$3.50 per cupcake meah) I was also impressed that they had cakes for my pup too. The two lovely souls reminded me to safely put my cupcakes on the floorboard of the car to avoid accidents. When I got home I left them on the counter until after dinner and the I slowly picked a cake for me and my pup. My picky pup suspiciously licked at her cake then terrorized the whole thing and begged for another. After settling her I licked at my Strawberry cupcake and my mouth exploded with the perfect confection that is Small Cakes. It was the perfect balance of sugar and strawberries even down to the cupcake itself!!!!!It was an humbling food experience that left me more than satisfied and praising my coworker for sharing this amazing experience with me. We stopped by Smallcakes towards the end of summer for a little afternoon treat for my two year old daughter. It's a cute little place. My daughter got a Pink Chocolate and I got a Lemon Drop cupcake, while my husband got their ice cream and mixed in a cupcake. My daughter finished the cupcake as expected as did I. I actually really enjoyed the Lemon Drop... the lemon curd on top actually tasted like fresh lemon curd.... I really enjoyed it. It didn't seem too expensive because we only got two cupcakes but I could see how a dozen of cupcakes could be pricey. But then again I feel like all cupcake places tend to be pricey. I do feel like the cupcake is larger than some other places namely Carytown Cupcakes so you feel like you get more for your money.
