Last but certain not least I'm head over heel in love with their Vegan Thai Pad.. they make it look like a Picasso painting but it tastes like heaven...it's exceptional, period. Been coming here with my wife and her parents for years. Drinks are always amazing. Food is exquisite. And the receiving service is usually spectacular. Usually. Last night on Father's Day around 8 pm, we received the worst service I've ever had coming from this place. My waitress was extremely rude, forgot our orders and was very unapologetic. The other server on duty checked on our table more than our original server and the bartender was much more friendly than she was as well. Still rating 4/5, we really do enjoy this place. read more

I went here last night with a couple of buddies, one of which had been here a couple of weeks ago. I try to eat vegan 80% of the time and like whiskey. A lot. I was excited and surprised to hear that there was a vegan\vegetarian place specializing in whiskey. In St Louis. Crazy! We had a lot of food. We had these apps: gyro sliders, pickles and ferments, hummus, frito misto and spring rolls. All of them were great except for the spring rolls. I like kimchi but it didn't really work for me with the other flavors. The sliders were tremendous. Enough so, that we got another order of them. Beware that the pickles and ferments are not pickles. It is pickled veggies. And some of them are really pickled. We are got the tacos for dinner and they were great. I preferred the crunchy one but they were all good. The whiskey was yummy and the drinks were well made. The service was great. Lindsay (sp) was awesome. I wanted to eat as much vegan as possible and she was super helpful. She answered all of my questions and I never felt like I was being a pain. Oh. And the dessert. They have coconut ice cream but they also now have a vegan fruit tart with the ice cream. Thanks to my co-workers in St Louis who told me to head here. Love love love the place. Whiskey Flights? Yes please! I had the Anywhere but Kentucky flight which included the High West American prairie, Dark horse and Hudson High. All good. Any I took of sip of hubbies flight as well (mine was better!). Then since it was my birthday weekend celebration, I had to try the Old Forester Birthday Bourban 2017.... Only thing I can say is OMG - it was so smooth. No wonder it's so expensive but worth every 2 oz I had them pour me. If you find a bar that has this (quantity is very limited), this is a must try. Bartender was awesome and very knowledgeable. Date & I had the brussel sprouts which were good, the buffalo cauliflower which tasted similar to a buffalo chicken wing. We've tried to stop in to Small Batch before but were greeted with wall to wall customers and a long wait - great if you're the owner, terrible if you're the one that wants a drink. We tried a different approach this time - hit them just after opening at 11:00 am. So, on this day, I had my first coffee and my first cocktail at the same time; surprisingly, even for me, a first. My wife and I had no trouble finding a few small plates to try and I ordered a house-aged bourbon cocktail. It was good, not extraordinary by a top-notch cocktail bar standard but obviously not amateurish. The second cocktail was the bartenders choice and Tim didn't disappoint. We were there quite a while and spent some time talking to our server and the bartender - both really kind professionals. I found this place for the 1st time last Thursday (Oct 27, 2016). I had the MOST amazing vegetarian meal EVER! Whiskey and vegetarian cuisine!?!? You can't go wrong! Plus, Chelsea and Lucas were AMAZING. Everything was so good that we planned to go back on my birthday, yesterday (Nov 1st). Unfortunately, our experience was the total opposite. I'll be leaving a review on that shortly... EDIT: Whoever was cooking in the kitchen last night (Nov 1, 2016) was TERRIBLE. The poutine gravy was runny, picture a soup made of snot, that's what we were served. The Russian salad was one of the worst things I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Cold tasteless undercooked potatoes, canned beets, etc. Absolutely HORRIBLE! I got the tacos last night and they were tasty. My husband got the eggplant parm, which was rubbery and overcooked. My Mom's cavatelli should have been called pesto with some pasta, all you could taste was the overwhelming amount of pesto. My Dad's pad thai was good, but only 2 of the 4 meals were decent. That's not a good thing! Last night's meal doesn't even deserve one star, but I realize it's only because of the person in the kitchen last night. That person needs to be re-trained or moved to wait staff because they ruined my birthday meal I was so looking forward to all week. If you can't make the food consistent, then chances are you won't maintain a clientele whose willing to come back knowing they are taking a chance whenever they go. After my 1st meal here my husband and I decided to make it a regular date night location, but now I have to find out who was cooking last night and ensure I never go on a night that person is in the kitchen. If you're into vegetarian food, you definitely need to try Small Batch. I actually once had a lasagna with soy meat that was so meat-like that I had to stop the server and confirm it wasn't real meat (that was my first time there - I was still skeptical). If you don't like veg-meat there are also many options of straight-forward veg dishes which are all great. And of course, Small Batch is whiskey heaven, with 100s of options to choose from. Very fine dining in midtown St.Louis area. We came by small batch on a freezing chilly breezy evening in want for warm cozy dinner. We weren't disappointed at all. Service and attention was top notch. While we entered the restaurant we were immediately seated. Our waitress was super attentive though not being in annoying proximity. Its a great restaurant and basically vegetarian friendly if not only. We ordered some drinks with Fettuccine Pomodoro and Gnocchi. Pomodoro actually had big bites of walnuts in every bite was that blew me away. The portions were pretty large for can be easily split/had twice. Gnocchi was excellent with that slight hint of brown butter and pine nuts. See vegetarians do have a great tasting restaurant and its not that hard to be one. We topped off the dinner with brownie. The brownie tasted perfectly warm topped with ice cream and caramel sauce all my favorites. Overall an excellent dining experience and certainly looking forward for future visit. They have a huge several pages of drink selection and its nice to sit down for just a glass of wine with some friends. The entree list was concise and I thought it was best not to confuse people with lot of options when their main business is drinks. But, they managed to put together some neat dishes. While leaving the restaurant we were greeted to return soon and hey with such good care of customers and excellent service I'd definitely be back in a flash. read more

Absolutely delicious! The restaurant itself is swanky, and trendy (exactly how I like it), and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. The food was impeccable! We started with the Rangoon, House Salad, Three-Bean Chili, and Poutine! All were outstanding on their own, but I had the bright idea to top my Poutine with the chili, and OMG!!!! Magic happened! The Rangoon was nice and savory, not too sweet like most Rangoon that I've had. The Poutine is a must-have, and so is the House Salad; this is not your average salad. For entrees, we ordered the Rigatoni and Baked Ziti. The Rigatoni had a spicy Cajun sauce that I loved, but the Ziti fell a little flat for me, and so did the Sweet Potato Pie. The crust on the pie was way too thick and gummy. I would have loved to maybe have a praline pecan brown butter crumble crust instead.... We didn't have cocktails due to Lent, but I will definitely come back to try the extensive spirit collection, Spanakopita, and Banana Bread Pudding after the Lent season. read more

First drinks we ordered off the menu weren't that great, second round we ordered (we just chose the whiskey and let the bartender make what he wanted) were outstanding! For appetizers we had the frites, the au gratin, and the mushroom egg rolls. For dinner we had the swarma (sp.) and ratatouille. Service was good and our server was very nice. Small Batch has so much potential! With a great alcohol selection and cocktail list, we went in with high hopes. My husband and I came here on a casual night with my cousin and her fiancé who were in from out of town. We were excited to show them a fun STL spot and were very disappointed. We waited a long time for the waitress to take our drink order. Once we put in our order we waited even longer for our two cocktails and two small whiskey tastings to make it to the table. Our appetizer beat our drinks and the restaurant was only halfway full. On a positive note, the buffalo cauliflower was delicious!! My cousin ordered an aperol spritz that was served without ice in a champagne glass. Aperol Spritzes are typically a staple served in a wine glass with ice and an orange slice so this was unfortunate. We then waited again to put in our dinner order. We ordered 3 different kinds of pastas that were all very bland and the pasta was overcooked. Our dinner was 2.5 hours long and during the whole time our waitress never made it back to ask us if we wanted another drink. By the time she finally came back we were just ready for our checks as we were tired of waiting. This place is very cute and has so much potential! I'm a huge fan of David Bailey and his restaurants. This place is right down my street AND it's a veg place so how could I not check it out? So yes, I made my friend come with me. Heh :) The other reviewer was right when she said it has a vintage feel. We were seated upstairs and had a wonderful view of the restaurant and out the window (not that there's a lot to see out there - just nice). The only downside is that you have to travel a bit to go to the restroom since it's one of those restrooms that is shared with other businesses in the building. We were underwhelmed by the Stoplight eggs but pleasantly surprised by the Bread and Jam. The stoplight eggs were artificially colored to look like a stoplight, which was sort of weird but okay since I'm mostly concerned with taste and texture. Under each of the eggs were a couple flavorful pickled green beans and a dollop of hummus, which was also pretty good but not the best. My friend got some sort of local beer and it was really good! I wish I could remember the name - such a fail as a yelper! He ordered a second glass and she came back with half a pint on the house because they were changing out the keg or something. Woo! I'll have to come back with my friend next time and actually order an entree! It almost seems unfair to rate them based solely on atmosphere and a couple small plates. I would give this place more stars if possible. Small Batch is a great restaurant that combines vegetarian fare with whiskey (among other spirits). As others have noted, the ambience here is great- very modern and spacious with two different levels for dining. Service was great. Drinks: we loved the kombucha sour, the shrubbly (they make their own shrub's in house!). The bar here is extremely well stocked-- every whiskey you could imagine among other things. Very well crafted cocktails. Came in on a slow night, and the chef sent out a sample of a special he had going on for the night-- don't recall what it was now, but it was very good! Win win! Love this place! I've been to a couple veggie places in the city and Small Batch is definitely my fav! We started with the potstickers-love the peanut sauce and wasabi peas. I ordered the tacos and they were delicious (a tad spicy which I love). My fiancé had the quinoa burger with French fries. He loved the burger! Fries came with a spicy ketchup. The burger was a la carte so you have to order/pay for a side of fries. We split the bread pudding. It was a huge serving. Yummy and different. The waiter was helpful and suggested the pumpkin old fashioned and kombucha sour. Both were very good (expensive but worth it). Can't wait to go back! read more

OMG. LOVE THIS PLACE. Here's why: 1) 7 pages of whiskey choices. At the front of the menu. They don't mess around. 2) Great ambiance. Perfect for a date night or a relaxed night with friends. 3) It's vegetarian. But they never mention it. And that's what makes it so great. They show that food can be interesting and delicious without meat. It also demonstrates that you don't need a large steak to pair with whiskey, sometimes vegetarian food does just as well (even better). And they take their food seriously here. From the complimentary amuse-bouche we received, to the brie appetizer and our varied entrees, everything was fantastic. We stayed here and chatted for hours, and from the looks of it, most people at the tables around us were doing the same. This is not the type of place where you rush through your meal, and you definitely don't rush through your drinks ;) Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us choose our flights and our food pairings. I was surprised at the large portions, and very content with the drinks. The drink menu offers descriptors for each whiskey, making choosing a lot more fun! I'm very excited to return next time I'm in St. Louis, and I hope to try their cocktails next time. It still has the cool Gatsby vibe. Walking in it has that dark old school romantic feel. The staff was still friendly and efficient. The Hubs ordered a Manhattan or 2 and enjoyed them both. We started off, again, with the Ferments and Pickles ($8) plate and the Cauliflower ($9). They were both tasty and we would order them again. The Ferments and Pickles were zucchini and yellow squash which were sour and a little funky in a good way, strawberries which were tangy and sweet - the star of the plate, mushrooms which were earthy and herby and delicious, a pickled spicy pepper which was good, and carrots with I believe mustard seed and clove which were heavily herbed maybe a little too much but they were still good. The cauliflower was fried and covered with buffalo sauce, sprinkled in blue cheese, and came with a ranch dipping sauce. The cauliflower was tangy, spicy, and delicious. *We had to wait an oddly long amount of time for our appetizers so much so that our waiter was apologizing even though we hadn't said anything. For our entrees The Hubs ordered Tacos @ $14 - black bean salsa, red cabbage, chipotle aioli, chihuahua cheese, avocado, crudo. One had a fried corn shell and the other 2 had grilled flour shells. He said they were awesome and he cleared his plate. I ordered Pad Thai but after awhile our waiter came out and told us they were out of Pad Thai noodles. So I ordered the Noodle Bowl @ $15 - green curry broth, sweet potato lumpia, carrot, mushroom, egg, radish. The both was tasty and got better as it sat. The noodles were underwhelming. The veggies were fresh but their flavor was lost somewhere. The egg was good and helped pump up the flavors a little. We enjoyed our experience but we probably won't be running back soon. For food it's definitely worth checking out. For drinks it's mos def a cool spot to hit early in the night. read more
