My last review for Frida's was 11 years ago and I don't even remember the disappointing experience I had then. I had it at least once during the pandemic, but forgot to update the review. I hope I will be forgiven for that. I returned recently for a drink and ordered a black Manhattan. It was so much better than a regular Manhattan. Tried Frida's for dinner with a work friend and had a relaxing evening. Quiet enough for conversation which was appreciated. We parked on North and South after discovering much of the parking in the nearby U City neighborhood is permit only. We were seated right away and the service was unrushed. The decor is hip, and the menu is full of healthy options, well marked to help those with dietary preferences. I got the salmon, served on mashed potatoes and asparagus. The fish was a bit overcooked but still tasty. My friend got a burger which was good. We both ordered espresso martinis which were delicious (I'm picky). A lovely evening. Great experience for a birthday with a large group. The venue is fairly intimate with a vintage, eclectic vibe. Music choice was notably fantastic and very engaging for our diverse group. I'm so happy they were able to accommodate our party of 23. We had a reservation for 8:30, though we didn't get seated right away, the staff was so kind to get our drink orders quickly. Each and every meal was delicious. My favorites? Salmon burger (hold the bun) - the aioli!!! Fire. The Mashed potatoes (shared serving) -- filling. Next time: Coconut curry! Surprised to see some new items on the menu, let's go for the California Chicken Sandwich add Cheddar with a side of mashed potatoes, aioli on the side. Delicious! I thoroughly enjoyed this dinner. Lovely upscale vegan-forward restaurant with pescatarian options. I loved the way the menu was laid out with an easy numerical coding system to make you aware of the dietary components of each dish. Hubs had the "steak" bowl (gluten & soy protein) and he said it was fantastic. Gluten is not on my list but I did taste a shred and it was amazing. I had a large salad and salmon which was terrific. Decided to treat my sister to the Easter brunch special at Frida's that was advertised through my email. When we got there we were greeted with a warm, friendly face. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was not. We both ordered pancakes, I got the coconut. She got the blueberry. We got a side of vegetables and beef tips. This is all vegan.... to my surprise, Everything was horrible minus the beef tips they were just OK. The pancakes were terrible, they were gummy and hard to cut , my sisters pancakes. Taste like cardboard .... We were very disappointed! We paid the bill and left to go to treehouse. I do not recommend this place for vegans the image of the pancakes. We had been here a while ago but didn't have any strong opinions of it. Tonight's meal was rather meh. The service, though nice, was surprisingly slow since there were only 4 or 5 tables occupied. We split the Mediterranean Flatbread which was tasty. My Mediterranean Salad was just okay. My daughter's Tuscan Mahi Mahi was also just okay. First, let me say that I am not (yet) a practicing vegan. But, for the most part I do eat vegan or vegetarian. I had the perfect vegan lunch, today, with the featured Mushroom Swiss Burger. I asked them to make it vegan with Vegan Mozz. The server, also, accommodated me with a last minute request for a gluten-free bun. The burger was like biting into a beef (gasp!) stroganoff. It just melted in my mouth with every tasty bite. I had the gazpacho, as well. Slightly complex in flavor, but oh so tangy and tasty with mild hints of jalapeño. this place was a delight! the vegan menu is about as extensive as the non-vegan menu. they were able to adapt an item to make it vegan for us as well! here's what we ate and our thoughts: -sunflower meat taco (adapted to be vegan) and it was great! it tastes like a classic taco bell ground beef almost?! super fun since that's obviously not a thing. -pasta con broccoli was SO tasty. we almost didn't get it because we eat pasta at home all the time and we were both so glad we got it! -"the classic" (vegan) was DELICIOUS (had me doubting if it was truly vegan for a minute) -spring rolls a little bland but still tasty -hummus was very good overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back! reasonably priced, great ambiance and delicious food :) the servers were all very polite as well. thank you, frida's! read more

I was very excited to try Frida's, have been wanting to visit for a while. Sadly I was disappointed with both the food and service. It really wasn't a busy night (Tuesday), but the service was very slow and a bit chaotic. Our waitress dropped a plate and ketchup spilled all over the floor, onto my pants, and shoes. The spring rolls had no flavor and didn't taste that great. The Mediterranean salad had no flavor, just tasted like lettuce. The tacos were basically just lettuce as well, the sour cream saved the tacos and we asked for a bottle of Cholula which added flavor. The tacos were supposed to come with a side of slaw but that never came. The saving grace of this meal was the Frida's burger. It was absolutely delicious - it did come with slaw, the flavor was great, it was filling and tasted very fresh. I wouldn't reorder anything other than that burger, would recommend that for sure. I was visiting St. Louis for the holidays and I've wanted to check this place out for awhile. We had reservations and were seated shortly. The decor is very cute and they have a lounge and bar area to the left when you walk in. The restaurant seating is to the right. When we were seated it took awhile for our waiter to get water and help us. He was very apologetic as they seemed to be short staffed. We weren't in a rush, so it wasn't a big deal. We ordered drinks- an our husbands margarita and the hibiscus margarita. Both drinks were strong and good. We started with hummus, which came with a pita. I would have liked cucumbers or more things to dip, but it was good! We ordered a station no 3 burger, skinny fries, grilled zucchini, and the enchiladas. My burger was okay- next time I would try the black bean to compare. The fries looked good, but were dry and underseasoned. I think the restaurant is careful with oils and salts which I appreciate, but it just could have been cooked better. The grilled zucchini was simple, but flavorful. Really the stars for me were the drinks and the hummus. I would come back but be selective of what I pick. Overall experience 3/5 read more

We came to Frida's for one of our Friday night dinners. The place serves vegetarian and piscatarian dishes. I am neither, but I do enjoy both types of dishes. The place was bright and clean, albeit on the smaller end. The tables were well-spaced, though, which was nice. We both ordered the same cocktail, the Bonito, which had rum, blood orange apertif,aperitif, Havana club Blanco, pineapple, lime and agave. We rarely ever get the same drinks and say we both enjoyed them, but this time, we did! The cocktail was refreshing and light for the summer. To start our dinner, we ordered the spring rolls. These were vegetarian spring rolls. Very tasty with fresh veggie fillings. I wish we had more of the dipping sauce. Then, I decided to get the Burrata caprese as well. It was tasty, but again, I was hoping for more than just a slight drizzle of balsamic and maybe a little more basil. My husband and I shared the caprese. For my main entrée, I got the shrimp pasta, which was delicious. It had some broth hiding/settling at the bottom. Once I mixed and remixed, the pasta came to life even more. My husband ordered the black bean burger, and he said it's one of the best he's had with one minor complaint about the bun type. He said it was a little tough and squeezed out the burger and toppings while he was taking bites. I know I said I don't like to skip dessert on Friday night dinners, but I was absolutely way too full for anything. While their dessert list did look tantalizing, I had zero room in my belly. The ambiance & service is really nice whenever I'm here. The food is about a 6.5 or 7/10. I haven't necessarily had anything that blows my mind yet. I'm giving this rating due to lack of seasoning. I always find myself wanting to doctor the food up at home to make it taste better. There aren't too many restaurants with decent plant-based options without adding a bunch of processed foods, so that's why I do prefer this restaurant when I go out to eat. The decor was so pretty, very perfect for a girls night, single data with wine, or date night in general. We went for a lunch before hitting the road and the service was impeccable. We were seated right away and had a table set outside even though nothing was set. Our waters were refilled and we were constantly checked on and did not need to ask for anything. Got the kale salad and something about big bowls of salad make me so happy. I wanted to bottle the sauce it came with and have on all of the future salads.
