Self service dinner buffet with my kids from Bhubaneshwar India. Healthy and refreshing. Dal was a little bland but very filling and fresh. I'm from U City. Not a vegetarian any longer but still a enjoyed our little family dinner;-)

100% Vegetarian = WINNING I dropped in for lunch and to my surprise there was a special All VEGAN BUFFET taking place (**Bankhead Bounce**) Pleasantly greet upon entry and seated without delay. Buffet items were fresh, flavorful and VEGAN. Ranged from masala to fruit, soups, grits, beans, cabbage, roasted vegetables, naan of course and much more. Small price to pay for $12 Spacious, clean, libations available as well as student discounts and Grub Hub. It's taken me years to get by for lunch. Better late than not at all right....I'm a big fan now. ~Christy

A great vegetarian option in the loop area! Nothing too fancy or over the top, but a nice casual place to enjoy some vegetarian Indian food. What I ordered: my boyfriend and I got the buffet. I loved it! In most dishes, you could not tell that meat was missing because they were so flavorful. They have a build your own chaat station( I believe that's what it's called) that I really enjoyed. The buffet for lunch was $10. I think that is a fair price. The person I was with is Indian and they said it was pretty average so if you want something super authentic this might not be the place for you!

Ever since Taj Mahal closed I've been looking for a new go-to Indian place. (They were the standard in STL as far as I'm concerned.) Unfortunately Gokul will not be filling that void! The food was almost flavorless, and the naan was soggy and almost tasted like a pancake for some reason? The staff is very nice but I'm still on the hunt for better food.

Cute vegetarian Indian restaurant located on Delmar at the end of the loop. We went on a Wednesday night and it was popping! Mainly with students and regulars as the staff seemed to know quite a few people. They also have a lot of kosher food as well which is rare in the Delmar Loop/CWE area. The prices are very affordable and the food was pretty good. The service was quick- the lady who served us seemed to be the owner or manager and she was super friendly. It was very crowded. Menu pretty vast.

I also appreciate that they wrap the vindaloo tightly in plastic wrap so it doesn't spill in transit.

Generally I'm a pretty big fan of spicy foods, so i got the lamb vindaloo. the vindaloo was one of several curries which had a three chilli icon next to it, which seemed to indicate that this dish was spicy. the dish came out fairly quickly and came with rice, and my server was pretty friendly. i also got a paratha since i haven't had any indian bread in a while i felt like the vindaloo was fine. the biggest issue i had was that i really didn't think it was spicy at all, despite the fact that this is supposed to be one of the hotter dishes on the menu. probably adjusted for american palette. another issue i had was that i didn't feel like the vindaloo/curry had much depth to it; it tasted fine but wasn't really rich and was almost a little watery. the lamb itself was okay. the standout was probably the bread, though i kind of wish there was a little more overall i thought it was fine. i thought it was actually fairly pricey for what it was: $18 curry, 5 bread, 3 tax and 4 tip comes out to $30 for just an okay lunch, so... eh. maybe i would come back but it would probably depend on how much i felt like indian and if i was in the neighborhood already

There were just 2 of us who were knowledgeable about the cuisine, so we trusted them to order for the table We tried lots of dishes, and im certain they were ordered with little to no spice, to not scare the newbies! The staff was very helpful and friendly, and all food came out super fast. We got multiple containers of white rice, a dosa, and samosas to begin. We enjoyed the samosas as they could be made as spicy as you want, but they are always full of flavor. The dosa was similar to a giant pancake, and slightly sweet - very good. We tried lots of sauces - the butter chicken, which was a huge hit. The paneer makhni, which was dark green with white chunks, was another favorite. I was told it was spinach with cheese, and it tasted healthy and fresh. Tikka Masala was also tasty. I forgot to mention the papdi chaat, which was "Indian street food", I believe. Our table was a bit overwhelmed, but only because most had never tried Indian food. It was challenging to keep up with all of the new flavors. That said, I enjoyed all that I tried. My personal favorites were the daal makhni and the paneer makhni. It was a fun trip to a super cool area!

Food: we got a variety of veggie and non veggie dishes but the people who got the chicken dishes were most pleased. I should have taken more notes but the fried veggie packets were incredible and the sauce was fantastic, easily portioned to be two meals on standard dishes (though the boys ate all theirs because it was so good!)

We usually go as a family of 4 (all adults now; although we started to go when the kids were in high school). We love the Lamb Curry (both my sons' favorite), the Beriani, the Qabelli Palau, and Chicken Teekha Masala. The Sambosas are great starters. The chutney they serve with bbq the Naan is a family favorite. To steal a line from Frank's Red Hot Sauce "We put that sh*tuff on everything ". Finally, when we have room (and sometimes even when we don't), we get the rice pudding. The service is usually good, but not necessarily great. It's always personable and genuine; just sometimes a little slower than expected. Also the place (opened circa 2005) is showing its age a bit and needs a little TLC. It's very clean; it just needs a little refreshening in certain high traffic areas. The takeout/delivery business seemed good on the Sunday night we went there, but the in-store business was pretty quiet. However, it was one of those sub-20 degree nights, so I'm hoping that was the reason for the lack of in-person dining. Go there are experience some really great food and let's keep this gem of a locally owned restaurant in business. Based on food alone on out most recent experience, I'd rate it 5 stars; service and ambiance probably should drag it down a bit, but I'm still going with a 5-star review, because for the food and flavor it produces, it deserves a strong review and some positive energy to keep people trying this great food and supporting this local business.

The naan bread on the side is different than the typical type of Indian naan but still tastes good. The service was pretty slow and I wasn't in a big rush but was getting ready to walk out after almost 15 minutes of waiting when a server came by. Good thing because 2 more minutes of waiting and I would've been out the door. The restaurant isn't the greatest inside but will do, nothing fancy.
