This vegan/vegetarian restaurant has a wide range of options to pick from, as well as a good balance of cocktail/mocktail offerings. Everything was delicious and service was so friendly. It is cozy inside and a small outside patio as well. Weekdays are relatively easy to walk in, but reservations may be a good idea on weekends. Our picks: beet salad, black bean burger, shrimp pasta, espresso martini, hibiscus margarita mocktail, lavender mint tea. 10/10 experience. Highly recommend!

I promise it's worth it. Kitchen 95 is a Taiwanese restaurant located off of Page in Overland area. They used to be partners of Taike Shabu Shabu, the biggest Taiwanese restaurant in St Louis area back in the day so you know the food would be fire. My favorite is their fried boneless chicken leg, which would be offered for free if your order is over $50. It tastes almost the same as the one I had in Taiwan. It's crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. Another dish that I love from here is the braised beef noodles soup. The broth was so flavorful and the meat was super soft. It's the best that I have had in the Stl area. Other dishes that I would recommend are the Hakka stir fried and the fish with black bean sauce but overall you can't really go wrong with anything. What amazes me is that all these amazing dishes were prepared by one person, who was also the owner. It's definitely hard work running this business for them so please be patient, and kind when leaving reviews.

HAPPY AAPI MONTH!…read more Wow, I return to the country and STL has a new veg spot that just opened this week! They are labeled as vegetarian, so I had to call them to inquire if they had any vegan dishes. The lady was very nice and informed me that as of right now, everything is vegan. Due to previous snafus with vegan restaurants serving things made with non-vegan ingredients, I kindly grilled her a little bit more. She assured me that everything is vegan here, for now. However, they are still in their soft opening, and she says the menu will change and may include vegetarian options. (Look forward to some ramen in the future.) The menu has a nice variety and everything is extremely affordable a la carte. You can also get bento boxes in small, medium, or large. As a foodie at a brand new restaurant, it was my sworn duty to try as many menu items as I possibly could... Ya know, for research purposes. Family Bento Box - Comes with 2 large sides, 3 entrees, 4 spring rolls, and a large box of white rice for $34.99. You pick your sides and entrees from a preset list of choices. My two sides of choice: STIR FRIED CABBAGE - I honestly didn't love the cabbage. I'd prefer it a tad more seasoned and stir fried. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again. SOY BASIL - I love basil, so this was quite tasty to me. They were out of their lo mein, but I'd definitely order this again and couple it with their fried rice or lo mein. My three chosen entrees: FIVE SPICED DRIED TOFU - firm, not soft, tofu cubes that are seasoned by the hands of Father Flavor. 10/10 will order again ORANGE SOYA DELIGHT - reminded me of a beef and broccoli with a tangy orange twist. Not bad. SEA-Y FILET & CRISPY SUJI FILET - each of these can be order separately, a la carte. I love that you get a taste of each in this family bento box. One is a fish alternative, the other is a chicken alternative. I really like them both (very good flavors), but the Crispy Suji Filet was my favorite. 10/10 would order again. Additionally I ordered... CY BRAISED DOU BAO ROLL - delicious. Would order again. MA PO TOFU - I don't like soft tofu, but the sauce alone makes this dish worth it. TLC FRIED RICE - a tasty turmeric fried rice that I used instead of the white rice. I don't like mushrooms so I just picked out the few lions mane shrooms that came in it. Would order again. FRIED DUMPLINGS - veggie-filled pan fried dumpling. They were good, as were the spring rolls. It's a nice sized eatery; very open and spacious. They're doing carry out only right now, but they do have tables in case you need to eat right away. Everyone was so nice and patient with my line of questioning. I look forward to seeing what they do with the menu. One parting suggestion would be to label the vegan and gluten free items on the menu to lessen confusion.

TLDR: Good Food, But A Lot of Red Flags…read more I had been wanting to try Shabu Day for a while and finally made it out. The food was honestly really good -- but there is a lot this place needs to fix before I can fully recommend it. The first thing that hit me when I walked in was the smell. And not in a good way. It smelled like a sewer. Not what you want when you are about to sit down and eat. It lingered the entire time we were there and was really hard to get past. The front of the restaurant looks okay at first glance. But once you sit down you start noticing things. The tables are wobbly and clearly rigged up with makeshift fixes. Extension cords are running visibly across the floor which looks bad and feels unsafe. The menus and sauce bottles were sticky -- like they had not been wiped down in a long time. Little things like that add up fast. I caught a glimpse of the back of the house and it looked grimy and dirty. That is a problem at any restaurant, but especially at a place where you are cooking your own food right at the table. The staff were not very welcoming either. They were hard to find when you needed something and did not seem very interested in making sure you were having a good time. Now here is the thing -- the food was actually fresh and delicious. The broth was flavorful and the ingredients were good quality. That part genuinely impressed me. But for the price they are charging? The total package is just not there yet. Good food can only carry a restaurant so far. They need to clean things up -- literally -- before I come back. UPDATE: One more thing worth mentioning that I think is really important. Shabu Day is strictly all you can eat -- and that is the only option they offer. For most people that is fine. But for anyone with a medical condition that limits how much they can eat, this format is a serious problem. You are being charged full all you can eat prices for food you physically cannot consume in that quantity. That is not fair and it is not inclusive. A lot of restaurants in this space offer a la carte or smaller portion options for exactly this reason. Shabu Day should do the same. It is a simple change that would make a big difference for a lot of people and would show that they actually care about all of their customers -- not just the ones who can eat the most. Clean things up, fix the smell, train your staff to be more welcoming, and give people a fair way to order. The foundation is there. Now build on it.

While browsing reviews, we came across a hidden gem in St. Ann called Maaji's Street Kitchen that had surprisingly high ratings. I couldn't believe how well-reviewed it was, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Monday and were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. We made our way to the counter to place our order, and the staff member was very helpful once we mentioned it was our first time. He walked us through the menu and even pointed out different dishes and combo options on their digital signage display menu, which made ordering much easier. We placed our order to go and waited inside. It's a small space, but it's decorated with unique art and has a really unique vibe. There was a hypnotic Indian song playing in the background, which added to the atmosphere. We sat at a table that had a game on it--I believe it was called Carrom, a tabletop game where you flick checker-sized discs into corner pockets, similar to a mini pool table. A woman who I assume was the owner or manager came out from the back and greeted us. While we waited, she showed us how to play the game. As we were playing, she came back and even offered us samples of the food we had ordered. I was honestly impressed by the level of hospitality--it's not something you experience very often. The sample alone was some of the best Indian food I've had. The spices were perfectly balanced for my taste, and it made me even more excited to get home and dig into our full meal. My wife ordered the Mixed Vegetable Curry Bowl, and I went with Combination #2 (Shredded Chicken Curry, Steamed Rice, and Parantha), along with a side salad. Overall, the experience was fantastic. I can't remember the last time we were treated this well at a restaurant, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more dishes.

I really liked every dish I tried, even the ones that weren't exactly what I remember from other experiences. And my favorite dish was one I'd never had: Kamundal aur Sarigobi, which is broccoli and mushrooms. It was phenomenal. Everything was just the right spicy too. The only thing that didn't blow my socks off was the kheer, which was just okay. The price did blow me away though. It was really expensive. With tip, like $30 per person. So be aware of that.
