i came across a former employee talking about their experience working here, and honestly, some of the things they mentioned made me think twice about this business. they described concerns about employee tips allegedly not being distributed, the food allegedly not being made from scratch as advertised, issues with gnats and flies, and problems with employees receiving their pay when leaving the company. while i wasn't personally an employee here, i can't speak to these things firsthand, but i do think it's worth knowing what a former employee has said about their experience before deciding to support this business. a huge part of having a successful business is treating your employees with respect, dignity and humility. read more

What a gem this place! I had the Alice Walker burger (house made black bean pattie) and it was delish. Came with a yummy side salad with tender kale. I returned today in celebration of Juneteenth. This time at the new Lindell location. It's not as colorful and bright as the previous location. I actually the exact meal I had the last time I ate there 2 years ago. The Maya Plate but this time with mushrooms. The food arrived timely. I was ready to dig in. They've changed the batter on the fried items. It's much lighter and is kind of blah. The mac n cheese was so much better than I had before. The kale salad is always a winner. The sauce that came with the mushrooms was cold. Not good with my hot mushrooms. I ate all of my salad and maybe half the mushrooms and a third of the mac n cheese. I've always loved sweet arts baked goods and the cinnamon roll I didn't take a picture of was absolutely delicious. The new location needs some time. The food has never been a strong suit for me as someone with texture issues. The wrap i got was buffalo cauliflower and avocado. It was too wet. The lettuce didn't make sense under the wet buffalo sauce and the avocado was too much together and soggy to eat. The only other issue is I've ordered French fries multiple times and it takes a while to get your order and my fries are never hot, it's very confusing. Will continue to shop baked goods! read more

Sweetart is so dang delicious. I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I do enjoy their offerings. The spot itself is cozy and brightly lit with quotes and art adorning the walls. It's a very welcoming atmosphere. You order at the counter, and I was in the mood for a burger and fries. I got the throwback burger with the sweet burger patty. When SweetArt was still at their old location, I had been wanting to try but never made it. Now that their new location is right down the street from me, I had no excuse not to check it out! I visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2 PM. My partner and I had just eaten a big lunch nearby, so we were looking for some sweet treats to share. Safe to say that SweetArt had plenty of options for us! I absolutely love what they've done with the interior. My partner used to live in the apartments above, and their restaurant area had been sitting vacant for years and years. Knowing what it used to look like, they've totally transformed the space. I'm so happy to see that it was given a new life. I think this will be a perfect spot for SLU students to hang out and get some work done. There's so many great seating options, and it really does feel like a bright and welcoming space where you just want to sit down and stay awhile. They also have lots of outdoor seating with huge umbrellas for some nice shade. After much debate, my partner and I selected four bakery items to try. We had a double chocolate pistachio orange cookie, a classic chocolate chip cookie, a chai snickerdoodle cookie, and a chocolate cupcake. The chocolate cupcake was by far our favorite. It looks just like a Hostess cupcake but tastes about a gazillion times better! Seriously so good, and I don't think you can come here without trying one yourself. The chocolate chip cookie was pretty good. I liked the contrast of the salt on top with the sweetness of the cookie. The double chocolate pistachio orange took me by surprise! The orange flavor really came out in the aftertaste, and it was one of the most unique cookies I've ever tried. Went to SweetArt bakery for brunch. My son started with the cinnamon roll which absolutely rocked. I had the sausage sandwich and my wife had the chicken sandwich both were delicious. My daughter had the oyster mushrooms with Mac and cheese and side salad. I tried the mushrooms and I will have that next time. They were perfect. As a vegan this is the top on my list. Great food, normally, and great people. I stopped by today to pick up 6 chocolate chip cookies, and three hostess cupcakes. At least I paid for three cupcakes, but only came home with two. After arriving home, I took one bite out of a cupcake today and there was a live bug inside the cake part of the cake. It was very gross. I smashed the bug and threw it away. I don't believe it was baked in, I believe it was burrowing in from the case. Not only is finding a bug bad, but getting stiffed on an expenses purchased item is unsatisfactory. My total was $49.50 for six cookies and "three" cupcakes! Longtime SweetArt fans. First at Shaw then the Foundry... both amazing. Tried the new location for the first time. They have ALOT of kinks to work out like the wait time, the staff, cleanliness etc. and it's understandable being in a new space. It's a bit hard to find, the place was not sparkling clean (not filthy either), the person at the register had really offensive body odor, and we had to wait 1.5 hours for the food. But when we got the food EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was bomb!! That's why I am giving a 5 star review. Solely based on the food. We came into town to visit family, but came here first so ended up waiting about 40 minutes for food. If we would've just came in for desserts the and left the rating would've been higher. We ordered all our food at the same time, when I went back up to the counter to get my cookies and they accidentally gave my order to another customer who was gone. They still had enough of what I ordered to recreate my order. They do a lot of cooking and brunch options on Sundays, so we came in from brunch items and could not get any of those items. My son didn't care for his kids meal, but liked the chips. My husband enjoyed the tacos, but said that the Jamaica one needed more seasoning, was too blame and the Sonia was too spicy but he liked it. My fired mushrooms were nice and crispy but had no seasoning. The mac-n-cheese had a weird chipotle type flavor that was not pleasing to me. The kale was fresh, but the dressing on it was icky to me. My husband enjoyed a few bites. My guys enjoyed the dessert. All in all the vibe started good, but the food was not as good as we anticipated all the way from Texas. This place has some of the best food in St. Louis. There's cinnamon rolls are to die for along with their various tacos and breakfast items. I haven't tried everything on their menu, but I've never had anything that wasn't either good or great. It's all delicious, freshly made, and they never disappoint. Yeah this place has really fallen off over the years. I've tried over and over to give them a chance since my last post but I see too many changes i don't really care for. My latest visit just did it 1 I'm really having serious doubts if it still African American owned. There was a non Black man there that the employees keep calling boss. 2 they sell alcoholic beverages now. 3 the brownies used to be the best but now there is salt in them and are trash 4 the chocolate chip cookies had salt in them .trash 5 . The sweet burger is just blah now. I've talked to least 5 other people over the years .The consensus that I got was that the total vibe is off of how it used to be. it's like the original owners aren't active in it anymore. Cupcakes are usually one of the last things I order at a bakery, because most of the time, they are not good. But this time, I looked into the bakery case at SweetArt and I had to get a cupcake. The dark, chocolatey Fauxstess was calling to me. I can spot a delicious cupcake and know for sure that it's delicious -- it's one of my many talents. And I knew that this one was delicious. I was right! (Of course I was.) The Fauxstess cupcake is SweetArt's interpretation of a Hostess cupcake, but it's infinitely better. The cake is soft and moist, there's just a touch of cream in the middle, and the top chocolate glaze is shiny and smooth. It's a great cupcake and I wanted to eat half a dozen of them. Instead, I just got one and then also got a chocolate chip cookie sprinkled with sea salt. The CCC is a litmus test when visiting a new bakery: If the CCC is good, then the place is good. This cookie was great! Which according to my calculations, makes SweetArt great. This place was extremely busy when I visited on a random Wednesday afternoon. There was a steady flow of customers, but I didn't have to wait long at all to get my items. They have indoor seating and a few tables outside, too. The people who work here are very friendly and positive, and this place just has nice vibes.
