After trying a few times to come here we finally got in. It can get really busy on the weekends with long waits so make sure to plan ahead. The do however have seating at the bar and do orders to go. The dim lighting inside and ambience makes for a great date night. It seems fancy, but not too fancy. We ordered the chicken pizza and the hot honey pizza which were both great. The hot honey pizza is the best "hot honey style" pizza in Birmingham! If you like you crust a little crunchy then this is the pizza for you. read more

My mom and I had a great night out in this slice of Italy in Crestline. It was a very lively, happening place on a Friday night. There was a long wait but we were able to sit at the bar and enjoyed watching the bartenders make cool cocktails. I enjoyed Slim's for the first time last night. I had a night off of being "'mom", so I ate at the bar by myself and a book. The servers and bartenders were all so friendly and welcoming. I could tell everyone in there was hustling to make the experience great for all of the dining guests. I had the Caesar salad, which was large enough to share for an appetizer. However, I ate the whole thing! It was light, fresh, and a perfect appetizer for my pizza. I ordered the classic pepperoni, which had such a unique taste to it, in a good way! Went on a Friday night and sat at the bar. It was crowded and a little loud. However the food amazing. The Baked Gulf Shrimp was seasoned to perfection and perfect for two people. We got the Hot Honey and Primo pizza. Wish the hot honey had more hot honey on it. And the primo pizza has a little bit of everything on it. We were so hungry and couldn't wait for a picture. This was a google map recommendation. Worst pizza I have ever eaten!!! First off I did not feel welcomed. I went in the busy restaurant and the first and only person after about 5 minutes looking around to see who I should stop to impose on to take a to go order, was another person of color that worked there. I proceeded to step outside because of the not so welcoming vibe to the outside seating until the server came to take my order. Since I saw another server finishing up I inquired with her about a half cheese and pepperoni pizza. She asked if I wanted basil on the pizza and I clearly said no. Before I even officially gave her my order she immediately sternly and rather nastily stated she would need my card and said it would be 30 minutes. After 5 minutes she came back with my card and ticket, handed it to me and she walked off. I signed and left the ticket on the outside seating and walked across the street to admire the water fountain with my 5 yo autistic Upon picking up my pizza, the pizza being paid for is still an issue as the guy that I asked if my pizza was ready stated oh yes it just came out. ( yet cold after a 7 min drive home). then he asks.. have you paid (the receipt clearly sticking in the side of the pizza box!!!). Long story short... the pizza was cold by the time I got home (a short distance in Vestavia) it was covered with basil, although I said NO BASIL. Overall the pizza was a -10. Worse pizza I have ever eaten!! My grandson would hardly eat two bites. Lessons learned from this ... do not rely on google map for BEST PIZZA NEAR ME , if an establishent does not welcome you and makes you feel as if you are bothering them, or you appear to be an alien to them because of your skin color... LEAVE, RUN. Lastly, as a woman of color I will definitely be intentional in visiting establishments new to me. It's such a unique experience and felt like I was eating pizza somewhere in Italy instead of Birmingham! The atmosphere has a warm and dim lit ambiance, and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. Since it is a small restaurant though, sometimes the wait to get a table can be long, but it is well worth it. I tried the Hot Honey pizza minus the pepperoni, and it was so so good!! We ate here for a second time last night, service was lovely as it was the first time. It is very loud so if you desire a quiet intimate setting, this is not it. We had the burrata (awesome), arugula salad (great), bistecca pizza and an affogato for dessert. Our pizza was overcooked enough that the crust had no softness or bite to it; it was completely hard and disintegrated to crumbs when you took a bite. The crust is the entire base of the entree, so this was honestly very disappointing. It makes me hesitate to consider returning. If you can't execute your entrees, you should not be sending them out to the customer. You can see the difference below in our pizza the first visit and our burnt one the second. There's a big different between some blackened bits and the crust being burnt through. It will be a while before we'll return, if at all. read more

I LOVE Slim's and think they have some of the best pizza in Birmingham. Drinks are also great. However, we went last night and as soon as we walked it, it was entirely too loud. Our waitress came over to take our drink order and we told her we had to leave because we couldn't hear each other. She was extremely understanding and tried to get us a table outside but it was going to be too long of a wait. It was loud (but tolerable) the first few times we had gone, but this time was insane. We aren't old people that complain about music being too loud and such lol we are in our late 20s. Just a fair warning if you're trying to have a conversation at dinner or decide to take your grandma there. Would love for them to find some kind of noise reduction solution. This is one of those places you have to visit to understand how amazing it is. On paper it is just a pizza place in a sleepy village outside of Birmingham but that is just wrong. Sure the hours sorta suck because it closes so early. Sure the parking situation in Crestline is absolutely the worst. Also, let us not forget that you're basically near the DUI capital HQ for the entire state of Alabama so maybe don't have nine drinks before trying to white knuckle it back to your house. Great ambiance, good shrimp, but the red wine selection and quality is not good. Pizza was decent but many slices were burnt (undercarriage) . Ask for them for a "non burnt" pie. The hostess took 10 minutes to even acknowledge we walked in the door because she made at least 10 phone calls and was writing in her notebook. Hell, I thought it might have been her personal diary Finally, she spoke and we were given a 30 minute wait time so we walked down the street for her to call not even 5 minutes later to tell us our table was ready. Once seated the noise was unbearable and so awful it just ruined everything! Loud music combined with a full house was ear piercing. There are ways to help that situation by adding to the walls. It can be curtains, foam heck anything. The poor old couple next to us couldn't even communicate with each other. The pizza was great and the food came out fast despite the crowd BUT the noise situation will have to be addressed before I ever step foot in there. First I will say the radish salad was amazing, highly recommend. Also the meatballs, only 3 per serving, but perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pizza I had and I cannot recall the name had sausage on it, I was not a fan, the sausage taste was very off putting. I would go again and try a different pizza without sausage though. The cocktails all looked very fun and the dessert dish where they pour espresso over ice cream looked fun at surrounding tables. It seems they do not have soda dispensers or at least didnt the night i was there and soda was being poured from cans, not a big deal for me. We are allowing our tastebuds to explore different avenues of flavor venues. Today we are driving down pizza street. Slim's was today's selection. We tried the shrimp appetizer which was flavorful. There were 5 head on hot shrimp served on a mini skillet that we enjoyed. We had a honey based pepperoni pizza that was 16 inch. It had 6 large slices. The pizza had a unique taste to it. I came here last weekend with my boyfriend and friends. I was pretty excited, but honestly it was just alright. Not bad but also not that great in particular. The place itself was super small, but super popular. We had to wait over an hour for a table. We had to wait outside and shopped around for a while, then were able to wait at their bar area for a few minutes. When we finally sat down, we ordered their original pizza. The pizza was pretty good, but my friends had to wait a good bit for their appetizer and pizza to come out. The staff was alright, but it was a pretty mediocre experience overall. read more

Was hoping to have a relaxed dinner while visiting town and catch up with friends. Our dinner felt extremely rushed but assumed it was waitresses vibe. It was until our check was brought along with drinks ordered and manager asked us to move to bar that I realized they were trying to rush us out. Thrilled that Slim's is finally open! Right as we stepped in, we were greeted by a very kind hostess and promptly seated. One of my favorite parts about Slim's is how the seating, marble tables, music and bar create an Italian bistro atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped out of Crestline and into an italian cafe. Their cocktail and wine lists have something for everyone. We ordered the garlic knots that had fresh garlic and basil on top and the pepperoni pizza. Everything was delicious and fresh and the service was excellent. Next time we'll order the Frannie Slim, a dessert cocktail highly recommend by some friends that were seated near us. What a true Italiano experience! This venue is a true authentic Italian pizzeria! I know there are a few around Birmingham, but not only is this place authentic, it's spunky! I am in love with the Italian memorabilia on the walls throughout the restaurant and very clean bathrooms! The lady in the dress smoking in the hallway was signature! Obviously this is a popular spot, because the wait for a table was a little more than an hour, but luckily we were able to be seated outside under heated lamps. We ordered two mocktails, we are both on a road to living a healthier 2023 with no pork or alcohol! The drinks kept its consistency even though the ice melted--it never tasted watered down! My friend, Velencia, enjoyed a salad that I ate a few bites from and we shared a hand thrown pizza, Italian style! Let's talk about the pizza, it was utterly mouthwatering, thin(watching my weight) and ever so flavorful. We shared the Olive and Feta pizza--crushed tomato, Calabrian chiles, Oregano, Kalamata olives and feta cheese. They were out of the pesto pizza, so I decided on this one and I loved it! They were able to use an olive oil base, which was very accommodating. The hostess, Lauren, was the sweetest and our server was too! I can't remember her name but she's for sure a hipster. In a word -- dry. If you've read beyond that first line then you need to know the pizza is VERY light on sauce. Overall this makes the pizza quite dry and makes the crust almost like toast. I ordered the "Classic Pepperoni", which lists basil as a topping (the LAST topping). Yet somehow there was significantly MORE basil than pepperoni! Odd and certainly not what I expected. The pie itself was $24 (pre-tax) and measured approximately 14" across. In hindsight this is perhaps a bit steep for a thin, dry, 14" pepperoni(ish) pizza. I also ordered a $2 side of the "Hot Honey" and sorta wish I hadn't. It's unique, I'll give them that! However the novelty quickly wears off and the taste devolves into an odd unpleasantness. I ordered takeout and thankfully so... as it's obnoxiously loud inside the small restaurant. The interior design and decor is fitting; it really does feel like a sort of upscale pizzeria from decades past. Slim's has some stout competition in Birmingham; there's certainly no shortage excellent pizza joints in the metro area. It's located in a great area in mountain brook, you can walk around and go into shops if you come early before the shops around close. It has a very romantic feel to the restaurant. We had a party of 8, not really great for big groups. They just don't have the space so we were crammed into the corner booth. The pizzas are amazing, that's all we ordered. A bit on the small side, but very delicious. The beer and wine are bit in the higher end of the price range. The staff isn't really attentive which is why they get a star taken off. It seems like management and staff don't get along. I have worked in the industry and I know how annoying that can be so I feel for the staff to have a boss micromanaging them. We asked our checks to be split at the beginning and the waiter didn't do it so we had to go ahead and figure it out at the end of the meal. read more
