Who doesn't love a good bowl of pasta? Bettola does it right. I always applaud restaurants that have perfect length menus. I do not need millions of options, this is the correct amount. If you know me, you know that if there's burrata on the menu, I'm ordering it. Bettola's is one of the most unique I've ever had. It's almost soupy, and it's scrumptious. The wine list is good, and they serve good cocktails. My friends all raved about the espresso martini. This is a great place for date night or to dine with friends and family. They have an option for everybody. Service is great, no frills. I find parking to be very easy in this area. Like Hot and Hot, you do have to walk through a different hallway to get to a bathroom, a little strange but fine. I love the option of outdoor seating, but the inside is a fantastic atmosphere, too. I've yet to try any of the pizzas, but will have to come back at some point, of course :).
We had concert tickets downtown so we thought we would make a night of it. Reservations for 5pm and we're seated immediately. It was a beautiful evening so we chose the patio. Music was light and atmosphere was inviting. Staff was polite and attentive. We tried, the suggested, Mentone AL tomato salad to start. Served with thick, ripe red and yellow tomatoes along with some dressing and corn. It was light and savory. Had us wanting more. Excellent choice. For dinner we chose the pepperoni and filetto pizzas. They serve a classic Neapolitan style wood fired pizza. Pizza was a good personal size. Crisp crust with nice leopard spotting. Chewy inside with good gluten development. Middle was a little soggy, but typical for Neapolitan style. Toppings were fresh and flavorful. Chocolate Budino was light and fluffy with a hint of salt. The roasted hazelnuts gave it a nice crunch. The house made whipped creme was firm and smooth. Excellent meal! No complaints. Highly recommend.
The ambiance of this Italian restaurant is on the upscale side. Elegant and stylish, it is located in one of the repurposed Pepper Place buildings. It's a nice vibe for a date night. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. We dined on Tuesday night, and sat outside because the weather was fabulous. Our server was attentive, but service was a little slow. In my opinion he had too many tables assigned to him. Food was good. We started with a charcuterie board that was pleasing to the eyes. Meats and cheese were good as expected, I especially like the pickled vegetables. The meatball special is not printed on the daily menu, but one of this two entree specials on this night (the other was grouper). The meatballs are served with a tomato based over bucatini noodles. The meatballs were outstanding, and the sauce had a little spiciness to it. The meatballs and sauce are served on a bucatini pastas. The pastas are made fresh in house.i would say the bucatini was not my favorite. It was thicker than I prefer and a bit too chewy. Our party shared the Tiramisu and a chocolate pudding-like dessert that was yummy.
Came here for lunch with a coworker on a Tuesday around 11:15 a.m. and it was already crowded! This is located in the Pepper Place district and it's easy to get to and there's a large parking lot in front, but it was almost full by the time we arrived. Service was kind and very professional, but this is one of those somewhat fancy places where service is more helpful and professional, but not necessarily fast. It's nothing against the server, it's just the atmosphere of the place. Seating is crowded and you almost feel like you're sitting with the other people dining (you know, the strangers you didn't come there with). And the restaurant noise is loud. All of this combined reminded me very much of Bottega on Highland Avenue in Birmingham. I ordered the Bistecca (panini), minus caramelized onions. It was good, I polished it off and enjoyed it. Overall 4 stars because of the loud, crowded interior and the length of time everything took. If you need a quick lunch, you'll need to go somewhere else.
Bettola was absolutely amazing. I take a lot into account when reviewing, atmosphere, service, food quality, and price, and this place nailed almost everything. The atmosphere was perfect for dinner: ambient, romantic lighting, and a cozy setup both indoors and out. We sat inside and loved it. We started with the Funghi di Bosco pizza and... holy crap. Hands down the best pizza I've ever had. The crust was that perfect wood-fired crisp, the cheese melted just right, the mushrooms were fresh, the fresh egg was perfect, and the truffle oil? Unreal. I'd come back for that alone. For my entrée, I had the Quattro Formaggi pasta with added sausage great flavor, rich and creamy white base, though the mint was a touch heavy for my taste. Dessert was the Chocolate Budino. Not a showstopper, but still a nice, sweet finish to an incredible meal. Our bill was just under $100 for two, and it was 100% worth every penny. Bettola should be proud excellent food, great vibe, and that pizza will forever have my heart. Can't wait to come back and try more.
Unbelievable Italian restaurant in Pepper Place. Lucky enough to have my sons bring me here for my birthday. Butternut squash ravioli, (special) Meatballs w/ bucatini, and bucatini carbonara. Completely OFF the chain. Please come patronize this amazing restaurant so it's here when I come back to town!! A+++
Food was alright and ambiance is nice but honestly nothing special. This is the worst service experience I've had in Birmingham. Took an hour just to put in our order. Our server was not even the one to give us our food and disappeared for hours at a time. The place was practically empty, so not sure why it took so long. Don't waste your money on ordering bread, there is no flavor and the olive oil seemed poor quality. The carbonara was good but definitely not worth having to wait this long. Took a million years to just get the check. No one came and checked on us after we were done eating for so long. Should not have had to be there for 3 hours.

I love going to Bettola because it is consistently good and the food is very high quality. You can tell that their bread & pasta are made fresh in house (and they use Italian flour)! Their lunch menu is excellent--you literally cannot choose a bad thing to eat on their menu. The paninis are excellent, soup/salads are fresh and tasty, & all the pasta is excellent! If you're looking for a great lunch spot or a romantic date night, this is a great choice! The service has always been excellent and the servers always have great recommendations. The patio is also great for summer evenings!
This place was definitely unique. We tried the kale Cesar salad and calamari to start. I was not a fan whatsoever of the kale Cesar salad didn't work for me or the folks I split it with. Just wasn't Caesar salad. The calamari was nice and simple but in a good way, it's not fried so it's not a heavy appetizer. Also tried the bolognese, the Quattro formagio, pepperoni pizza and bucatini carbonara. The main courses were delicious , if we were being nit picky the pizza dough was a little soggy near the middle. The service was really good and the ambiance pleasing. The menu doesn't have a lot of selection but overall the experience was nice. would recommend this place.
We had a fantastic dinner at Bettola! I ordered the bucatini carbonara, and it was absolutely delicious -- the fresh-made noodles made all the difference. Rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. I paired it with a pineapple mocktail that was refreshing and not too sweet -- such a fun, non-alcoholic option done right. My husband had the wood-fired pepperoni pizza, and it was everything you want in a pizza: crispy edges, a tender crust, just the right amount of char, and high-quality toppings. You can really taste the care that goes into their food. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Birmingham!
This is a beautiful restaurant located near pepper place. It has a great location and the inside is beautiful and spacious. The service was phenomenal. They were very attentive and made sure to check on us through the meal and make sure we had everything we needed. This was not the best authentic Italian food I have had in Birmingham. I enjoyed my pasta but my family said their pizza's were cold and not very good. Overall, I think we had a great time and I would definitely be willing to come back and try something else on the menu.
Bettola is perfect if you are in the mood for Italian food. The food and service were wonderful! I have gotten various pasta dishes before, but the salad I got this time was delicious. The other members of our party got pizzas, and everyone loved theirs. It is very family-friendly and in a great area in Pepper place. read more

A wonderful evening spent at Bettola! The burrata is a MUST. The warm bread on top is delicious, thick, and a great pairing for the burrata. The burrata is my favorite in town. I tried the special frozen aperol spritz which was fantastic. Service is exceptional. A lovely Italian dinner in town! read more
As always, everything we had was delicious. I was a little upset to start because they didn't have any espresso to make a martini. Not pictured, we started with the calamari and burrata. Both great choices! We had the fish dish, which was grouper that night, and the hanger steak. The steak portion was a little small for anyone expecting more meat. Service was great. Our waiter was very attentive. We set outside and despite being a little chilly the heaters made it more comfortable. read more

Wonderful experience. I was not expecting much, but it did exceed my expectations. The food is good very contemporary Italian not so much traditional. Service from the young lady at the bar was a 20 out of 10. I wish her luck on her interview and if she gets her job, you still have to keep her part-time. The staff was engaged and even Server is coming up to the bar service area. I will definitely be back I had the carbonara pasta. It was very good. I will definitely be back to try more food options. I think their wine was a little pricey. read more

I walk pass this place at-least three times a week, I've even been inside to purchase a gift card for someone else! However, my first time dining was on a crowded Wednesday during lunch time. The inside is smaller than I expected but cute and quaint. I met two friends at Betolla and we all ordered the Quattro formaggi which I really enjoyed. I added steak for my protein. One of my friends sent their meal back because the portion was small. My friends stated that the pastas flavor was strong, likely due to the Gorgonzola. I agree about their flavor remark; however, my palate is pretty familiar with Gorgonzola so I was in heaven. I was sad that they didn't have cocktails during the day but maybe that was a sign I didn't need it. Overall I would return to try some of their dinner options, especially the pizzas which looked incredible. read more
I gave this restaurant multiple chances, but it did not get better. On my first lunch visit, I ordered the Sugo di Pomodoro; it was so salty that I literally started salivating. I had to balance it out with their insalata mista, which was good. On another visit, I ordered their Pollo Pomodoro. The meal was fine, but that's it. I preferred their burrata and drinks more than my meals. However, my biggest complaint is the service. One time, the waiter was rushing us to make our order, as they only had a few orders of chicken left. There were small flying roach-like bugs in the restaurant, which constantly flew around or landed on our table. With several great restaurant options in walkable distance, I would choose another spot. read more

Bettola never misses! We love the Burrata but at $18.50 we can't usually justify it. The bread is the best part in my opinion and the flatbread is the same thing without the cheese for $5.50! Sugo di Pomodoro was a tasty lighter option (relatively haha) and my husband didn't have one bite left of his Carbonara! read more
I always wish that I could get Bettola delivered because we love the burrata and the bread that comes with it. We picked up an order and couldn't wait to eat it. The burrata was good, but not as great as we remembered. I was not happy with the Filetto Pizza we ordered. The sliced garlic was too thick to soften and mellow during the short baking time. I was picking out raw, sharp-tasting garlic with every bite. read more

Bettola is a stunning place to get Italian food in downtown. Found in pepper place, this spot is a favorite for an after work dinner. You HAVE to start with the fluffy warm flatbread accompanied by burrata. You can not go wrong with any of the pastas or pizzas, but my favorite is the Quattro formaggio pasta, with your choice of meat. They also have an amazing tiramisu, one of my favorites in Birmingham. The servers are friendly, helpful - they even re-did one of the pasta dishes a friend ordered since it wasn't up to the store standard. It is a cozy, intimate spot, make sure to set it up. read more
This place has always been a favorite, but the service was super slow the last time we were here. The waiter could have cared less about our dining experience. The food was still wonderful! We started with the warm burrata with freshly baked house bread. Always divine! Then we ordered the rigatoni, Bolognese and a margarita pizza. Super delicious Neapolitan style pizza is really the highlight of this restaurant. The pasta was a little gummy, and the flavor of the sauce was a little off. This is my New Favorite Italian restaurant. The food is SO GOOD!! I have now been here 3 times and have tried something new every time and everything has been delicious!! The Burrata is a must!! We have gotten it every single time!! *** We had almost decided Bettola wasn't our favorite place****. We celebrated Valentine's Day at Bettola and decided to sit at the bar and waited for a long time while Lauren looked at a computer screen, eventually she came around and asked what we wanted to drink and when I pointed to a drink feeling like I wouldn't pronounce it correctly she scoffed and said 'I can't see what you are pointing at!!!' Then she also bit my husband's head off while he was trying to order his drink. Very Cold personality... the wait staff was very stand of ish and you could tell they didn't want to deal with Lauren. NOW let's CUT TO our AMAZING experience with our new favorite bar tender in Birmingham Haley D!!! We decided after our terrible bar service on Valentine's Day/Night we would give the bar 1 more chance. HALEY is AMAZING!! Her personality is so great!! Why they don't have her as a bartender more is beyond me!! We went to Bettola after work on 3/7/2025 and LUCKED all the way UP and got Haley D as our bartender and server!!! 10+ 's!!! We will now only be going when Haley is available as a bartender or if we go on a night she isn't bartender, we will request to be sat in her or Terry's section!! Shout out to Terry!! She was our very first experience at Bettola and she is Phenomenal!!! read more
One of Birmingham's oldest and often overlooked best restaurants with some of the best Italian inspired dishes you'll come across. If you are curious where to go on a date or business meeting rather than your "usuals" this should be your spot. Located in Pepper Place in a rad part between downtown and Lakeview with ample parking in the or on the street. Awesome outdoor seating area. Excellent wine list that rotates. Amazing pizza, pasta another entree dishes. They're open for lunch too! read more
Top notch, upscale Italian dining in the heart of Pepper Place. Lots of seating inside and out. Pleasant vibes all around. Full bar, fantastic menu, excellent service. The kind of place that just has it all together and does it all really well. Antipasti, burrata, pastas galore, tiramisu, all the classics and then some, done well and with attention to detail. Deliciousness all across the table. Hard to go wrong. If you're in the area and looking for casual vibes and amazing Italian in a clean and tidy environment it's a no brainer. Even if you aren't in the area, it's worth going out of your way if this is the kind of food you're craving. Will definitely return. 5 stars. read more

Came here for dinner with a friend. We got here on a weekday right at opening. It wasn't crowded at all. There is music playing but it is not too loud and the dimly lit dining area makes the restaurant so cozy. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese and it was amazing! The sweet waitress also found out it was my birthday and brought out the cutest tiramisu with a candle on it. She was extremely attentive the entire time and that dessert was just the cherry on top. You will have an amazing experience dining here! read more
