I'm usually one to wait when a new restaurant appears but because of all the great reviews, I decided to come here for lunch on a Friday at 11am. I was the first person there and I was promptly greeted by Cristina. She welcomed me in with a smile on her face. I love going places where everybody smiling and really enjoys being where they are. I ended up getting the lasagna lunch special, which came with a salad. I got Italian dressing on there. The bread was phenomenal. May have been the best bread I've ever put in my mouth. It was so soft and you really didn't even need butter for it. It had a hint of garlic. After talking to the server, she told me how wonderful the lasagna was so that's what I got and I'm so glad that I did. It was just the right amount of cheese and it was piping hot when I got it. As I was sitting there at the restaurant began filling up, which really made me happy. We really need a good restaurant in Helena and I hope that they are able to survive. I'm not gonna lie the parking can be tricky. There is street parking and I believe there's parking behind the restaurant as well. Italian music was coming out of the speakers which I really enjoyed. It had the white and red checkered tablecloths, which really made the ambience feel Italian. I also got the limoncello cake, which was delicious. They do not have their liquor license yet because for some reason, it's difficult to get one in Alabama. I was told that you can bring in your wine if you would like. I will definitely be back sooner than later, and I suggest you check it out as well.

I was really excited to try this place. I had read reviews that it was supposedly very authentic. I don't know. I walked in and it was very difficult to walk on their floors. My shoes were not gripping so be careful. For appetizer, we ordered the fried ravioli, which was good. It was stuffed with cheese and had a side of marinara sauce. The other item we ordered was mushroom stuffed with some type of seafood. It was very cold inside. It was covered with cheese on top and a nice sauce it was swimming in. For my lunch, I got pasta trio, which was three very small selections which honestly in the end just felt like it was all one thing because it was all squished together on one plate. It was just ok. My friend got the chicken piccata, which was a really huge dish. The rolls were probably my favorite. Very nice and buttery. I hate to say this, but I would not be back. It just didn't hit it for me. It didn't taste awful. I want to be clear about that. It just didn't do much for me to go back. The staff was very friendly.

Casual ambiance. Kind staff. We went during opening week, and they didn't anticipate the crowds so service was understandably slow with only two servers while it was super packed. They brought us tiramisu on the house because of this, which I appreciated. The seafood combo 2 was delicious and flavorful. Great value for the price, and I had leftovers to take home. Very glad to have this option in Helena

I was very surprised to learn that they sell soda by the bottle and about a 16 ounce soda is three dollars apiece which I found to be a little overpriced. So if you go there and like soda be expected to pay three dollars a bottle which honestly makes me not want to go back. We were there during happy hour, and we got spinach, dip, and Parmesan fries with garlic aïoli, which was delicious. They used to charge for the bread, but we got two servings and didn't have to pay for the second one. Our server, Tyler W was very attentive. Our drinks stayed full and he did recommend some dishes. I got the chicken Parmesan and it was delicious. A very good serving and I brought some of it home. I got the brookie as a dessert and that was equally delicious. Happy hour is from 4 PM to 5:30 pm during the week. The bathrooms were very clean as was the dining area. When you walk in, they do have some ready-made food for you to bring home and also some salad dressings. We sat by the window, which was very nice. If I do go back, I'll probably just stick with water or sweet tea.

I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon since I had been having a hankering for a slice of pizza. I rarely ever crave pizza! My single slice was a nice portion and I enjoyed the supreme pizza overall. I would have preferred just a tad bit more sauce. The service was nice and friendly. The inside dining space has low lights and really felt like what I envision an Italian family's home to feel like. Currently, they aren't selling alcohol. They offer daily specials Mon- Fri. I plan to return soon to try some other menu items.

Cafe Trentuno was recommended on Yelp. At first glance, we were not impressed. It dated decor and there were no customers in sight. But the manager created us and took our order. He was very nice and informative of the menu. They do offer pizza by the slice at any time of the day. A plus if you just need a quick snack. They appear to serve Napoleon style pizza, so it was looking up. We ordered a large olive oil based, cheese with pepperoni and pineapple. I know it sounds weird but it's our favorite. Each pizza is custom made to order so it took a few minutes to be served. But the advantage was it was piping hot straight to the table. Olive oil was slightly sweet and tangy. Cheese was fresh and tasty. Toppings were perfect. Crust was crispy brown on undercarriage with nice crunch. Edges were crispy on outside and fluffy on inside. Manager suggested their balsamic dressing to dip the crust in, so we gave it a try. Highly recommended! It was a great choice! And of course, the Diet Coke was on point! Great customer service! Good pizza! We will definitely be back!

The lighting is low, the tables are cozy, and the vibe basically demands deep eye contact and meaningful conversation. At one point I'm pretty sure he thought the night was going somewhere... and I had to subtly remind him this was a friendship risotto, not a romance risotto. Aaaaaanyway... the restaurant itself is excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive the whole night. I ordered an old fashioned that came with the proper large scube... always a sign the bar knows what it's doing. For dinner I had the braised short rib risotto and it was a knockout. The short rib was so tender it basically collapsed if you looked at it too hard, and the risotto was creamy and full of flavor. All jokes aside, it's a really solid spot and perfect for a date... or apparently a very emotionally confusing dinner with a friend. If I'm in town long enough on this work trip, I'll definitely be back.

That said, pricing has always been outrageous, and it's becoming harder to overlook. For example our most recent trip, we had two mains, and an appetizer, and the bill was $90. Had we gotten drinks, desserts, or any extras, we'd be looking at $150+. I asked for extra tomato sauce to go, and I was given what was literally two tablespoons of sauce, charged at an outrageous $3.50. I get that things are pricier now, but tomato sauce is one of the cheapest ingredients, organic or not and as a chain, I can guarantee you this isn't small batch, nor locally made. The markup here was just shocking. I know things cost more these days, but the price does not match the value. For this price point, you would expect much higher quality dining and you can get that easily in Birmingham. It's still a great dining experience, but we're increasingly cautious because the pricing has been a concern for years. Just something to keep in mind if, like many of us, you're cautious about budget.

Let's go through the menu so that you can see how many choices are available. If you are eating at Bertolone's you'll see that there are tables and booths to choose from, so there isn't usually a wait. And the servers check in with you shortly after you're seated. If you're doing take-out, your food will be ready when you get there, and your family will be thanking you for the tasty and ample servings. Everyone can have seconds. My family loves the calzones, so many combinations! But when I have family visiting, I go for a variety, so that everyone is happy: usually spaghetti and meatballs, lasagne, and Chicken Parmigiana or Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. Delicious! The family meals run $36.95 to $45.00 and feed four adults, so plenty if there are two adults and three or so children. Pizzas and calzones are $16-$18.50; subs are $14.00. The cakes are to die for, and each slice easily feeds two people. I usually split it with two people so that I don't feel guilty. If you have never been to Bertolone's, take exit 231 off Hwy 65, and try it. It will be one of your favorite Alabama restaurants!
