One Star Rarely do I feel compelled to leave a one-star review, but our experience at Vino was truly one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. It started before we even stepped inside. Our party of six waited nearly 15 awkward minutes outside at the hostess station before a single employee acknowledged us. Once seated, we were placed in a back room that was at least quieter than the front of the restaurant--which was nearly deafening--so that felt like the only small win of the evening. Unfortunately, everything else went downhill fast. After being seated, it took another 15+ minutes just for the waitress to take our drink orders. Appetizers followed and were mediocre at best, nothing remotely memorable or worth the wait. My Caesar salad was laughable. It advertised house-made chunky croutons--there were three, each no larger than a Hershey's Kiss. The salad itself was watery and bland, as if the lettuce hadn't been dried before the dressing was added. I even had to ask for pepper, which somehow confused the waitress. The main course was the final insult. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe with Conecuh sausage, priced at $31. The "sausage" consisted of three tiny pieces, totaling maybe one ounce combined. For that price? Are you kidding me? By the end of the meal, our table was stunned--not satisfied. Little to no protein, minimal substance, and zero justification for the prices. I had come previously for martinis (which are fabulous), but have since been apprehensive to try dinner given all of the prior mixed reviews. I'm glad that we came to try it for ourselves! Our favorite dishes were definitely the Asian fusion ones - the bang bang cauliflower, the scallops, and the seafood curry dish. The penne vodka pasta and hangar steak were good but nothing special for the price. The martinis are fabulous - my favorite is the Chilton County Strawberry. A plus: if you come on a Monday, there are select drinks and appetizers for $8. Our server was attentive and kind. She helped serve our birthday cake, but do note that we were charged for cutting the cake at the table. What really will keep me coming back is the ambiance. He demanded we "move our car" and when we tried to explain we were planning to come in when they opened, he spoke over us. His tone was angry and aggressive and wouldn't let us get a word in. The food was mid and below - the hanger steak was well over-done, the hummus and artichoke dip platter was supposed to have crudités. A few sliced onions and tiny tomato pieces were the only veggies on the tray. We ordered a ceasar salad to share and when it never arrived we told the server that it was fine, just take it off the bill. She said it was delivered to the table, just to two other people in the group at the other end and they just assumed their meal came with salad. Came here for Saturday brunch for a friend's birthday. They took reservations and had our table ready outside. Our server Liz was very attentive to our group and really nice! The menu is very specific down to the syrup. I ordered Capellini vino with chicken. It tasted pretty close to a chicken alfredo. It was a little bland for my taste. I was told that the salmon was good. My sis enjoyed the hash tower (no tomatoes). The little potato cakes were really tasty, but the bacon was very crispy. Several people got the American and it was agreed that the thick, very crisp bacon was giving a taste of pork rinds. No complaints about the conecuh sausage. All in all... Located in the really cute English Village. The outdoor dining area is really cute - small tables under a tree in a very cute courtyard. There's also an outdoor bar area. The service was great. As I said the tables are small, there's not much room for plates. That wasn't an issue because the staff was very attentive. Promptly after we finished our appetizers, those plates were removed. Now to the food! The fresh fried okra was great! The cheese plate was good. It's hard to mess that up. The bang bang cauliflower was great! Again, very under seasoned. Bang Bang Cauliflower was very good. Red fish was delicious but again, under seasoned. Service was just, so so. Our server would forget things and not return for long periods of time. Sapphire martini was perfect! Ambiance was lovely. I will say that the service is pretty slow but our waitress was super nice and very knowledgeable about the menu. They didn't have any mocktails listed on the menu but when we asked our server, she just asked us what flavors we typically like and made us really great drinks! There was not enough room for servers or other diners to get by, and people kept running into my chair. The cacio e pepe pasta was overcooked and watery, with clumpy cheese and thin-sliced breakfast-style bacon on top as opposed to a well-combined sauce and nice cubed pancetta or guanciale. Hummus was runny. Tiramisu was dry. Menu felt outdated. Service was awkward. There were no mocktail options for those in our group who needed them. I had a group of 6 for my 30th birthday at vino. We were put in a closet first of all. I couldn't decide if this was cool or awkward. So let that go. But what made this entire evening so bad was the hostess, who from the start was disrespectful, rude and pushy. My mother brought a cake and the hostess told us when we sat down that we can't take the cake. My mother said politely we were told on the phone they would cut and serve the cake. The hostess proceeds to very aggressively RIP THE CAKE from mothers hands and she responds with "OMG what are you doing!?". The manager walked up and the hostess explained they just couldn't put it in the fridge for health code purposes but they can do everything else. We say that's fine and she takes it less aggressively this time. Then when it's time to serve the cake, the bitch comes back. The hostess is the one who brings it out. I blow out the candles and she immediately takes the cake off the table. I told her I wasn't ready yet and wanted to get pictures of the cake before she took it. She essentially blows me off by saying "oh your friends got plenty of pictures." And took my cake and walks off. We were all in shock. Nobody knew what to say. Who blatantly talks to their guest as if they are children? Why are you in such a hurry? All of this was just so unnecessary. I didn't get any pictures. This was a $100 cake. I was so excited about my birthday party and this woman ruined it. We spoke to the manager and all he did was apologize. We spent hundreds here. I'm so disappointed with this place. I wanted to come here FOR YEARS and my first and only experience was a major disappointment. I feel extremely disrespected. I'm sad I don't have the pictures I wanted of this cake. It was beautiful.
