Red or white is such a cute spot!!! Seating is pretty limited so I try to get there early when I go. They have wine by the glass, or you can pick any bottle from their storefront and drink it there (I believe it's a $10 uncorking fee). The food is actually really, really good!!! It's such an underrated spot! They also have a great wine selection if you're just looking for a local wine shop. Definitely check it out!!! read more

Red or White offers a unique concept that combines a retail wine shop with a full-service restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by shelves of wines, charcuterie boards, and gourmet accompaniments, making it a fun place to browse before your meal. Unfortunately, my first impression of the service wasn't the strongest. When I approached the host stand, I was greeted with, "What do you want?" While it may have been an off moment or simply a poor choice of words, it didn't feel particularly welcoming. Since I was standing at the host stand in the dining area, I assumed it would be clear that I was there to eat. I was also initially directed toward the bar, despite it being nearly full and located in a busy area where staff were constantly moving through. Since I was dining solo and wanted a more relaxed experience, I asked about patio seating instead, and thankfully that was available. Once seated, my experience improved considerably. My server struck the perfect balance between being attentive and giving me space to enjoy my meal. Since it was my first visit, I had several questions about the menu, and he was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely happy to offer recommendations. I decided to order one of the daily specials along with a build-your-own charcuterie board and a Kir Royale to drink. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was an excellent choice. It was fresh, vibrant, and had a flavor profile that set it apart from the many tomato salads I've had before. It's the kind of seasonal special I'd happily order again. For my charcuterie board, I selected Soppressata, Prosciutto, and Gin & Juice for the meats, along with Campo de Montalbán and Midnight Moon cheeses. Everything paired beautifully with the accompanying bread, nuts, and garnishes. Each bite felt thoughtfully curated, and it made for a leisurely meal that encouraged slowing down and savoring each combination. The Kir Royale was equally enjoyable--light, bubbly, and refreshing. It complemented the charcuterie perfectly and is an easy recommendation if you're looking for a celebratory cocktail. One of my favorite parts of the visit was the patio. It was the perfect place to enjoy Birmingham's beautiful weather while people-watching and taking in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it easy to linger over the meal. Before leaving, I had one more interaction with the hostess that left me a bit puzzled. Since I was dining alone, I took my belongings with me when I went to the restroom after letting my server know where I was headed and asking him to bring my check. As I walked back, the hostess commented, "I thought you had gone." While she may not have intended anything by it, the remark came across as though she assumed I had left without paying, which made for another awkward interaction. I settled my bill at the front counter without issue, but it reinforced my initial impression of the hospitality at the host stand. Overall, I'd rate Red or White an **8/10**. The food, drinks, patio, and service from my server made for a very enjoyable experience, and I would absolutely return for another charcuterie board and cocktail. The only thing holding this visit back from earning a higher rating was my experience with the hostess. Hospitality begins the moment a guest walks through the door, and small interactions can have a lasting impact. Even so, the quality of the food and atmosphere makes this a spot I'd happily visit again. read more

Although the restaurant portion is closed for remodeling, the wine retail store is still open for business. I was here recently for a Daou wines tasting. The tasting was held on the retail store side. There was a smaller crowd but we still had an enjoyable experience. Chris from United hosted the tasting and did a good job. He was a heavy pourer! The 4 wines we explored were tasty. The CAB and Sauvignon Blanc were the standouts for me. Red or White (Bham) is one of my favorite places to visit in Birmingham. I highly recommend checking out one of their complimentary wine tastings. read more

First time trying out this wine bar and I really enjoyed it. My first interaction was over the phone bc I wanted to reserve an area for 8-10 people. The staff was very friendly and helpful and answered all my questions. And also was understanding when I had to change the date due to the weather. I love that they had a parking lot. Tip: Don't scan the barcode to pay til you are inside. They will validate your tix! Easy process!! The space was cozy & inviting. To our surprise from 3:00-5:00pm on Saturdays they offer a pre-selected wine flights & a small plate for $20. We got to try wines from Spain/Portugal! I will definitely be visiting again!! read more

We visited the Red or White for our January Book Club and I really enjoyed my visit. It has been on my list to visit for a while. It exceeded my expectations with great service from the time we arrived. I loved the wine area which had so many options. We had the perfect section for our party which allow for good conversation. They have $20 wine flights with snack plates which was a great deal and perfect. This weekend featured wines from Spain and my favorite was the 4 Monos! I'll be adding it to my wine list. I appreciate the complimentary parking as well. Keeping this place on my options for when I'm in of wine! Would like to try more of the food on my next visit. read more

What a great place to meet friends for drinks and a bite to eat. I've been to a couple of other locations of this restaurant and have enjoyed it immensely each each time. They have a woodfired pizza oven on premises, an entire room full of wine akin to a library setting! all varieties and price ranges as well as a bar make your beverage selection process simpler. We ordered a charcuterie plate, gave them a few instructions, but basically left it up to the Chef to fill it out and you did a wonderful job job with it. We have been on the road for the most of the day so I was a little hungry than usual, and we ordered a pizza which was excellent as well. It was an individual size pizza.. read more

Came for lunch today with my daughter and oh my goodness it was amazing! We had the Caesar salad and the seasonal heirloom pizza and must say it was the best combo of flavors I've ever had on a pizza! I love heirloom tomatoes and they have been so good this season but the nduja and peppers made it even better! If you haven't tried yet then you better hurry before it's off the menu! Caesar was fantastic as well. read more

Knocked it out of the park. The atmosphere. The staff. The quality and presentation of the food. The pacing. The prices. They brought the market salad out first, it will be different depending on what's in season and fresh. My winter salad was made with a blend of arugula, spinach and other lettuces topped with radishes, apples, walnuts, goat cheese and a purple boiled egg (so neat!). The fire-roasted mushrooms might be my new favorite food. Period. The chipotle sauce and pickled onions are so yummy. The crispy edges of the mushrooms, wow. read more

If you are looking for a place that's quiet to enjoy some wine, Red or White is a perfect place. We ordered the wine flight. It comes with 4 wines and a small charcuterie board. It was prefect for the two of us. We also ordered the red or white pizza. It was good with a little kick. Our bartender, Clare was very nice, friendly and helpful. Red or White OR BOTH! Having traveled to wineries across the globe, it's quite exciting to see the vast selection of some truly spectacular wines, that ROW has. Not to mention the accessible prices. Nobody has such a fine Chilean selection as we've found at ROW. Their PRISMA Sauvignon Blanc, is fresh and palatable for a warm day. Crisp and fruity and almost spritzy! Not nearly as sweet or as bubbly as a Riesling, but for those who don't like too sweet or too dry, PLEASE make sure ROW keeps their PRISMA wines, in stock. Their charcuterie/antipasti boards are always fresh and lovely. They'll chill and serve your wine at table side, for a mere $10 corking fee, on top of the price of your selected bottle. Can't beat that with a stick! As far as their servers, they're second to none. They're alert and swift on their toes. None of them come to your table every two seconds, to interrupt. It's as if they have cameras and see what you need. Whether it's another pour, some ice, more water, anything. Tip highly and accordingly, it's well deserved. If you can't afford to tip 25-30%, you can't afford to go out. From the moment you walk in, to the moment you depart, you'll already be planning your next visit. If you have ANY issue, bring it to their attention. It'll be addressed swiftly and amenably. Even if you won't be drinking or eating there, grab yourself a few scrumptious bottles, and head home with some pals. We promise, you won't regret it. It's a quaint, small space, with WORKING AND COOLING AC. That alone, is enough for us. Blahahaha. Thanks ROW, for always offering us a fine alternative to home, to enjoy a few bottles ;) ;) read more

We had a wonderful time at the Friends and Family soft opening last night! Half of the building is a large wine shop. There are plenty of options to please any wine drinker. They also have cheese and meats available for purchase, wine accessories, wooden cheese boards, and gift arrangements. There's also a large window where you can sit and watch the chefs prepare the menu items for the wine bar and cook in the pizza oven. The other half of the building is a wine bar. The ambiance is very hip and inviting. The seating arrangements offer low top, high top, bar and outdoor seating. The patio out front would be a perfect place to have wine and cheese with a group of friends or for a date night. We ordered the Red Wine Cheese Board (there's also a white wine version) and the blueberry goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates. The board came with 3 different cheeses, a baguette and their house-made strawberry preserves. I've never had preserves on a cheese board and I now think that they all should come with strawberry preserves. The dates were a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Everything was delicious and was perfectly paired with our red wine. There are lots of options as far as wine is concerned. You can come in the shop and buy a bottle (or a few) to take home. In the wine bar, you can consume any bottle that you buy (with a $10 corkage fee) from the shop, order it by the glass or even order it by the pour. The service in both the wine shop and the restaurant (Jackie was our server) were great. They were so polite, knowledgeable and attentive. Some other menu items that we saw that looked great were the bruschetta, margarita pizza and the build-your-own charcuterie boards. We'll be back as soon as Red or White officially opens (hopefully one day next week) to welcome Red or White to Birmingham! read more

My first time visiting this place and overall I enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day outside and we were able to sit on the patio. We all settled on a couple of bottles of Pinot Noir and each were delicious. The brisket board had been really hyped up by some of the people I was with and overall it was good but nothing extremely impressive. The pizza was just that.. pizza. I would definitely try something different next time. read more

Lovely place, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Oysters were great. I didn't enjoy the CA Pinot Grigio, mostly due to the taste found in the wines from that year. I'm my opinion, I wouldn't have gone with that choice for the menu. The Chenin Blanc was wonderful as was the Grenache blend (which I'm actually going back to buy a bottle of despite the 2020 year, funny how that works out). The restaurant itself is beautiful, I'll happily be coming back. read more

Red or White has an expanded selection of wine for any type of gift! It's a store and also a cute little restaurant. All their staff is welcoming and so lovely. The space is intimate and it can be very loud when it is full, but it's a great spot for a date or girls night! The Grenache blend they have on their menu is perfect, great well rounded red wine. The anti pasta plate is good too, I just wish they wouldn't choose bologna has one of their meats. It seems cheap to me. However, their white beans are so freaking good! I really wish they had wine tasting or flights, red, white, bubbly. I would love to see paired chocolate tasting or types of desserts. It'll be amazing wine and chocolate pairing, who wouldn't love that!? read more

This place is lovely. Definitely give you a meet up with friends and or date day vibe. We only partook one the daily oysters which were good, which I tried one of the pizzas though so will be going back for that. The wine we had was light airy and delicious. My friends and I stopped here to get a glass of wine and something to eat. They had pizza, charcuterie board options, and small plates. Everyone really liked their food, but we all did comment on the limited wine options they had on their menu. There is a wide selection of actual wine bottles for retail sale, but their menu for wine by the glass was small. They had the basic wines, so we were satisfied. This is probably not the best place for exploring wines. It's pretty inside though with lots of natural lighting and different options for seating! read more

We visited for a friend's birthday and loved every minute of our experience! We chose to sit in the store part, which was fun to be surrounded by all the bottles of wine. Each of us selected a different glads of red from the menu, and we split a pizza and two appetizers. The Special Pizza with the pesto base was phenomenal! As someone who doesn't particularly like pesto, that was amazing. We also ordered the bruschetta with goat cheese, which was also incredibly delicious - but goat cheese can do no wrong in my book. I can't wait to come back! Highly recommend for date night, girl's night, any occasion would fit within the walls of Red or White. read more

RED OR WHITE RESTAURANT AND WINE BAR We had a lovely meal and excellent reasonably priced wine at the RED OR WHITE RESTAURANT. The restaurant has pizza, small plates, and boards. We had the vegetable board which had crispy roasted potatoes, roasted green beans, delicious aioli, beets, grilled yellow squash, and mushrooms. Dailey- the server/person behind the bar(doesn't even qualify as a bartender) worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant in 25 years of dining. Her arrogance and pettiness was beyond!!!!! First off she did not do her job as a server. She did not ask if we had ever been to Red or White nor did she offer to explain how the wine menu works. When I tried to ask her about the bottles available and the small menu I had in front of me. She was so rude to me and condescending that it completely caught me off guard. All I wanted to know was how to buy a bottle of wine and if there was an extensive list available. The only thing she needed to do was her job, instead she decided to be as nasty as possible and constantly try to challenge every request or question we had. You guys are a WINE BAR, a place where knowledge from your server guides your customers experience. If she can't do that and isn't willing to, why is she working for you?? Secondly she poured out not one but two of my glasses of wine out before I finished the last sip. She did this intentionally, because the second time she said immediately "there was nothing in there" and looked at me dead in the eye knowing full well she was lying. Then she did it to my friend and was so condescending to her that we all had to double take. Thirdly when we asked for our check and said we wanted to split it 4ways, she told us when she comes back from the kitchen she EXPECTED all 4 cards to be present. My friend said to her, very politely, that there was no need for her snarky comments and all she did was reply with more attitude. There a lot of nice people out there looking for work, that would do a MUCH better job representing your company. Because of her, myself nor the 3 women with me will never return. We will all make to let our friends know what a terrible experience we had at such nice venue, because of your SERVER DAILEY She was also rude to your food runner that was bringing food out to everyone seated at the bar. Find someone better to represent your restaurant and bar. read more

Let me tell you.... this place is it. Not only is there a variety of great reds, but there is also several quality brews to choose from. Do you want pasta? They got it. Maybe feeling some pizza? Look no further, they got it. What about charcuterie boards for the family? Guess what? They got it. I believe the server's name was Charlotte, and she led me to the most perfect items they had to offer. On a side note, there's a nice place across the street to pregame called "The Rougaroux." All in all, Red or White? More like Red is Right. They also allow dogs. read more

What a nice addition to the Forest Park area! The former whistling table spot is so cool and I was so excited when I found out a wine shop/restaurant was opening there. They have outdoor seating and are dog friendly which is always nice. I went with some girl friends and we got the white wine cheese board, grilled vegetable platter and dates. We paired it with white wine they recommended. The prices were extremely reasonable and the food was very good. It was such a nice evening on their patio. I would love to go back and try some of their other food options, such as the pizzas or meat platters. They have routine wine tastings that look like a lot of fun as well. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times and found the food to be delicious and wine selection (both in the store or on the menu) is excellent as well as reasonably priced. The staff seem great, also. The only issue that I have is that they need some quality control w/ food portions.   - The first time we went with another couple, we ordered appetizers and a couple of pizzas. The pizzas were delicious, but interestingly, they were very different sizes.  We just assumed it was due to 2 different kinds of pizzas - margarita (very small) and rosemarino (what we expected and saw on other tables).  - The second time my husband and I went, we had appetizers and a margarita pizza and it was the larger size, which was a great surprise although we had loaded up on appetizers thinking the pizza would be small like in our first visit.  -The third time I went with some colleagues, we had the market salads and a pizza. Three salads came out much larger than the 4th salad (it was about 1/2 the size of the other three) and the pizza was the larger size (thankfully).   - Finally, the 4th time we went it was with some family who were visiting. We ordered 2 pizzas and just like the first time, one was very small and the other was larger.  Not expecting the smaller size pizza (hoping that they had fixed that issue), we had to order a 3rd one so that everyone had enough to eat.   It's too bad that someone in the kitchen doesn't monitor this. When you pay a fixed price for something, it isn't fair that sometimes it comes out smaller than other times.  Food portions should be consistent so that you know what you are getting. This, hopefully, should be an easy fix.  We'll try it again, but if we find that we are paying full price and get a smaller portion than what we do at other times then we are sadly done with this place for food, but we'll still come to enjoy just a glass of wine and atmosphere.  It just isn't fair to pay $18 and get only a small, personal size pizza or $9 and get a half portion salad. read more
