The wait was too long, I sat there waiting with the expectation of fresh food. Which I don't mind waiting if it's actually fresh! Yet when I get the food it's barely even warm. Ontop of that the gravy was old and congealed. Everything I ordered as well, was extremely salty. My very first experience with this restaurant was completely terrible! It was a long wait for lukewarm overly salty food. Highly disappointed and I am in need of high blood pressure medication from all the salt. read more

First time and probably the last. Food was underwhelming. Their garlic parm sauce and Korean BBQ sauce were terrible. Wings and tenders are ok at best. Coleslaw sucks. What disturbed me was first windows cloudy and dirty. Second the iced tea bins were so filthy and nasty they look like they haven't been washed for a week. Third the fountain machine tray where the over fill and spill goes down the drain was so filthy they had scum and calcium deposits all over. Is there no manager to see this stuff in a restaurant? This is acceptable? I would fire the manager on the spot if this was my restaurant. Totally unacceptable. No wonder we were the only ones in there. read more

I'm so disappointed, I drove all the way to this place from across town to be disappointed. First off , they didn't have Mac and cheese which is a main item on the menu and when I asked why, she said " we forgot to thaw it out this morning, and then it ended up being to late" so then after just ordering some wings and fries my wings have BARELY any sauce. Just dry wings , I ordered Korean bbq and buffalo . How does it look to you ? I cried the entire 30 minute drive home . read more

Tried slim chickens a couple weeks ago during the snow stark and had the chicken tenders, they were good and had some pepper for flavor. We finally decided to go back and try it again last night. We got the chicken sandwich combo which was delicious. It's not too big or a small but it will fill you up with the fries. We also tried the chicken n waffles which was really good as well. We will definitely be returning a lot more when we are craving fried chicken again. Next time we will be trying the wings and maybe some dessert! read more

Dried as hell wings, I placed a drive thru order and paid 42 + dollars for dried food. As soon as i arrived to my hotel and began to eat, i was disappointed. I called the store to complain and the employees did not answer the phone. Mind you, it was 8:12 p.m when i called, they close at 11 p.m. read more

Service has been trash as of lately. You order a full meal and get less fries than what a kids meal sees anywhere else.

We first had Slims in Texarkana and loved it. We were excited to get one in Helotes. They started out great with great customer service and delicious food but have gone down to the point that I would rather go elsewhere because they do not seem to care about the customer. The wait time is ridiculous to get your food and they do not give you enough salad dressing or sauces for your meals. You now have to purchase additional ones. Also their meal sizes are getting smaller. Considering their prices you should be able to get enough sauces for your meals without having to pay for additional ones. I hope things will get better because we really like the food, but with high prices and bad service we will wait a while before going back. read more

Well my homie and I are just trying out this place after my brother said he ate at a Slim Chickens. The place is clean with a mellow vibe and the employee we ordered with was kind. First, I read a few reviews talking about how long it took for their order. We waited 8 minutes for our food. And it was fresh! The prices are pretty fair. The chicken tenders are good, just a slight notch below the familiar Canes chicken. The chicken sandwich is decent. However, I wouldn't order that again. The fries were good also, nothing spectacular. Tried the slims sauce and gravy. The slims sauce makes your taste buds curious to keep dipping. Then you'll realize it's not quite Cane's sauce. But that's okay... The gravy needs work. Watery and not really flavorful. What made the meal better was the extra side of Mac and cheese. The tea is alright. Overall, would I come here again? Yeah, if I'm in the area. But if I'm not then you already know. read more

Solid four star! 5 stars if compared to only other faster food like restaurants. Good price point, clean and service with a smile....one minor point is a need for higher quality blue cheese sauce for the wings please. Does not detract from my pleasure of finding a new good place to eat!!! Will return often. Update after several weeks and several returns...food and service continue to be above average glad to say. Keep up the good work and take pride in your restaurant! Would like to caution mgmt to make sure wings are served hot, not just warm. I don't think these wings are deep fried, so all the more reason to assure thorough heating... 20 Nov update: meal was piping hot!! Makes a huge difference! 21 Sept update: sadly, we were the only customers at 4:30pm. Food came out suspiciously fast, and you guessed it, ICE cold! Note to self, don't eat here if it's not busy 3 Sept 2019 nearly a year since the last visit. Saw the restaurant was under new mgmt (thank god). Food once again came out piping hot. Let's hope the QC remains high! read more

Service is terrible absolutely the worst service. This location needs a major reevaluation! I've been coming to this location for years and recently it's ALWAYS something! No ice in the machine , no buffalo sauce waited 30 mins for our food and just for them to tell us no Mac and cheese. Expected a refund and I better be getting it or I'll be making another complaint. read more

I'm giving the food 4 stars but I'm deducting 1 star because my order was incorrect. I ordered a 3 and 3 and because I had an errand to run, I opted to not get fries but potato salad instead because no one likes cold fries. I ordered bleu cheese for the wings and I had forgotten to request Slim's sauce for the tenders but when I asked for at the window, I was told that he'd put some in there. Sweet right? So, imagine how disappointed I was when I got home to find no Slim's sauce and cold fries. I don't live close enough to go back and have them correct but I will definitely stop to check my order the next time I'm there. read more

Slim Chickens - Good food but I didn't order fries. =( - Comfort Food Near Me - Helotes, Texas

My observations, checkin out the new 'chick' in town: Strip breading is a little peppery Some kinda season salt on the fries.. it's not unpleasant, it's just...saltier than I expected? The standard sauce is kinda on the sweet side The toast has a little garlic zing to it! Tea variety! Salad offerings! Chicken and waffles! Cute mason jar desserts! Super nice folks working the place! I haven't yet tried the wings. The strips are A-OK. They don't rock my world like Cane's strips, and I didn't find the sauce that hit me in my sweet spot: maybe gravy is the way to go at Slim's, with the peppery breading? It's almost like this is a fast-food country-cookin' place, specializing only in chicken. Which is A-OK by me! read more

Nice, clean restaurant. The cashiers/order takers seem a little shy and are hard to hear though. Especially if this is your first time here and don't understand how things work. I only had a salad so I can't honestly rate the chicken tenders, but I did like the concept of being able to order 3 tenders and 3 wings with a drink and a side. You can even do a 5 and 5 deal. They have at least 4 or 5 different sides to choose from and multiple sauces to choose from, so this is definitely an advantage over Raisin' Cane's which I think only has one side and only one dipping sauce. Very interesting concept, good service, clean place - I hope they succeed! read more

"Open everyday unless we are closed" greets you at the door of this fancied up barn restaurant. Super clean, friendly staff and a yummy menu. After reading the other reviews on yelp I wanted to check out this place for myself and I'm happy to share that it was great! The ambience of this restaurant is akin to a modern barn with an outdoor patio, wooden tables and TVs playing sports. It's simple inside with self-service drinks and counter service for ordering. My boyfriend tried the 5x5 with buffalo wings and fried tenders, while I opted for the 3x3 with Korean BBQ wings and grilled tenders. All of the combo meals come with Texas toast, fries, a drink and your choice of sauce. I sampled the slim sauce and cayenne ranch and they were both good. If you like spicy the sriracha garlic is worth a try. The Korean BBQ sauce was very good and probably the best thing I tried. My boyfriend was pleased with his meal as well. The food came out hot and fresh, and I like that they offer grilled tenders in addition to fried. The service here is great! Becca handled our transaction at the counter and then came by during our meal to check on us and offer samples of the other sauces. If you're in the Helotes area looking for a late night bite, Slim Chickens is open until 11 and their drive thru is open until midnight. Check it out! read more

Slim Chickens has lost its touch. Went with the fam to have dinner, ordered our usuals which included an order of fried pickles. When the food came out, I thought they brought the wrong order but nope. Some genius decided to half the size of their fried pickles. Got a very small order for $5. Rip. Off. The chicken was not the same quality either. It was chewy, saturated in grease and my husband found a lovely hair atop one of his tenders. Surprised they didn't try charging extra for the hair! The amount of fries that you got before is about half to what they are serving now. Also the tables were dirty. We cleaned our own. Not sure what changed or who changed things at Slim Chickens but you lost my family's business. I'll take my $40 and spend it somewhere that isn't trying to cheap out on their customers. This review has been....my pleasure. If ya catch my drift. read more

Out of all of the chicken tender restaurants, I'd have to say these are the best. My tenders were meaty and moist on the inside, with a light breading coating them on the outside. The slim sauce was ok, it is a sweet tomato based sauce. I preferred the ranch sauce. The tenders came with Texas roast that had a slight garlic taste which was really good. It also came with fries that were thin and crisp. Everything was served hot. I also tried the fried pickles. They were so good, I would make a trip here just for the pickles. The breading was seasoned well and the pickles were salty good. A rogue fried mushroom made its way into the basket and it was also very good. I continued on like a trooper to dessert. The strawberry shortcake was served in a mason jar. Delicious. The strawberries were sweet and fresh. Loved it. Can't wait to try the chocolate brownie dessert. read more

Edited review: So, we dined here a week after they opened and it was stellar (my original review below was 5 Stars). Since then, we've been back four times and it's gone downhill on each visit. The place has also been very empty lately which doesn't look good for Slim Chickens. Most recently, our food has been wrong, cold, lettuce soggy and tenders smaller (and over cooked). Also, the employees are less friendly and seem too busy to help rectify food issues. Yesterday was our final visit. Original review: The place was packed! Our meals took about 25 minutes during the dinner rush which we allotted for since the Drive-Thru was also wrapped around the building. I'm sure this won't we the norm after the newness has settled. The menu has ample items: tenders, wings, salads, wraps, etc. The sign/menu say they have "sandwiches" (plural) but there is only a Cayenne Ranch sandwich on the menu... wondering if you can order it different ways? The food is good. Our favorites were the French fries (super) and the macaroni and cheese. The chicken tenders were good but similar to other places in town. I ordered the barbecue chicken wrap and they forgot to put the shredded cheddar cheese in it. When the manager came to check on our table, I mentioned this to him and he immediately offered to correct it. He went above and beyond to make us happy and even brought us a free dessert! Excellent customer service to say the least! Also, there is a nice outdoor eating area and the place has a cool vibe... kind of open airy barn meets 50's diner. read more

Ok so we drove a good 20 minutes for to try out slims and I'd say it's definitely worth a try! They've got some of the best spicy chicken tenders I've had!! However I wasn't exactly a fan of the sirracha garlic wing sauce because it was supposed to be spicy but it was sweet and I am personally just not about that sweet life ya feel? But their cayenne ranch was AHMAZING, wish I could ask them for a bottle lol but ya give it a try, you won't be disappointed!! read more

I'm an Uber driver and have picked up here many times before without an issue, however today Kaleigh was the cashier and she is one of the most incompetent cashiers I've seen. She was very slow and was ignoring customer's needs to finish her current task at hand. Every customer and every delivery driver was having a bad experience with her while I was there. The kitchen was able to keep up with orders but she was not. read more

Stopped in for a workday lunch with my daughter. Nice sized interior, simple menu and friendly service. Large variety of dipping sauces and cute "jar" desserts. The chicken was well cooked and the seasoning light yet tasty. Self serve drinks. The staff even cleared our trash for us. There's a porch for when the weather is less hot and humid. Music was pleasant and not too loud to interfere with conversation. read more

This place has been passed by TOO many times. One day I get this from my brother and us siblings sampled some grilled and fried chicken tenders. LIP Smackin' good. Their manner golden fried light meat flavor that juicy inside. As for grilled, the same. We love our chicken not dry!!! Now what impressed me more were the various sauces that can be picked with your meal. They had so much variety ranging from classix buffalo sauce to korean bbq sauce. May I actually enter the place upon visit to try more on the menu read more

I really want to love Slim's....I really do, because they have a great variety of sauces and they offer salads and wraps unlike boring Cane's. Their inferno sauce is legit and so many others to choose from. On the downbad, the tenders are pretty tiny, but the real kicker is the wait time. I truly appreciate them being open during COVID, but there have more than one occasion where we are the only people in there and food consistently takes over 30 minutes. Last time in around 2pm, we were informed that they were out of fries, salads, wraps, sandwiches, Cole slaw, fried pickles, okra, and a few others. BUT, they did have chicken tenders and waffles....nothing else, which kinda kills my earlier praise that they offer much more than Cane's. Prices are good, and O'Connor kids working there do their best, but there has to be a more efficient way. It's hard to get up for Slim's knowing a long wait, despite no other customers, and the potential to have limited options are strong possibilities. read more

Definitely recommend this place I got the chicken and waffles and to drink the cranberry lemonade which was awesome the waffle was so fluffy and all the food had so much flavor my husband got the garlic Parmesan wings and tender meal and he said the garlic Parmesan was the best seasoning he tasted and my son got the siracha garlic wings which he loved and said they were moist and well seasoned and not over cooked it was perfect and the portions were awesome and the bbq wings were awesome as well my girls loved them!!!! read more

I like how big the place is with TVs everywhere and place to dine outside. The food was good, not spectacular but not gross either. The chicken was fried perfectly, it a cross between Raising Canes and Chick-Fil-A as far as taste and how it's fried (possible in a pressure cooker). I went with Garlic Parmesan dipping sauce which was weird, didn't taste like garlic or Parmesan. They need to take that one back to lab and try again, so I just used ketchup. The mac and cheese was superb, thick and cheesy, I wasn't expecting that from a semi-fast food joint. The Texas toast was just ehhhh, maybe more toasted and buttery would have been better. The strips were fairly small and the wings my BF ordered look like Cornish Hen wings, they were tiny. The prices were kind of high for the size of the chicken they're selling. I would go out of my way to go here but if I were in the area I would return and try another sauce and side, but still get the Mac and cheese because it was so good good. read more

The food at this location is actually pretty good. My food happens to be fresh almost everytime. I usually have no issues with the customers or the service here. However, today on this Thursday, some stubborn chubby Burnet guy was in a terrible mood to come to work. I understand that people have there days but this is the second time Iv had an encounter with the young man with terrible service. I tried to call ahead, and I only had cash on me. He stated on the phone I had no choice but to order online when Iv never had this issue before. I order here often because I work right next door. So I kindly mentioned I only had cash and hung up on me. I called again, straight to voicemail. I walked next door and he rolled his eyes as soon as I walked in, mind u the store was not busy at all. He was bothered the entire time I was ordering my food. Again the location it's self is pretty decent, just be be weary of certain staff individuals bringing your mood down. read more

The presentation is good and the flavors are there, but this is the first time I've had dry/overcooked fried chicken in a long long time. I'm going to give this place a second go at some point, but when you specialize in fried chicken and its over done that is a bad look. Also the honey bbq sauce is odd. Can't exactly put my finger on why I think its odd, but it is. Take the opinion with a grain of salt thought. TL/DR: Would have easily been a 4 or 5 star review if I didn't get dry, overcooked chicken. read more
