What we ordered: Lemon blueberry French toast Texas Benedict Side of hash brown casserole Everything was great except for the watered down hash casserole. After being heartbroken that the Los Patios location closed down, we finally made the drive over to this one. While the look and size is smaller than the Los Patios location, the food and service is just as amazing! We had the cinnamon roll pancakes, the metro omlette, and two kids breakfast with oreo pancakes. Our waiter, Jeff was the best! I don't normally give 5 stars on my first visit. But this is a special case, and special place. First time here, and I know the background of the cafe. My server Jeff was great, attentive and yes he told me about himself. I ordered coffee with cream, a water and the Drunken Monkey Scramble without toasts. The coffee was good and refreshing as I hadn't had any yet. The Scramble was very good and was the perfect choice for me today as it satisfied my hunger without me feeling stuffed (Note: I saw another table receiving their waffles and pancakes and OMG!!big delicious looking portions). Back to my food. Perfect bite size chunks of meat, veggies and eggs. They only accept cash, and recommend a $15 a dish donation. Jeff explained that you put the funds for the meal on the Ticket side of the holder, and any tip on the other. Or just put it all together. These funds go to help others recover from various addictions. You then leave the holder on the table and then leave. I ended up leaving $25 for the food and $5 tip. I look forward to going back. If you never have tried the Comfort Cafe, you have to go inside and by the Hostess stand you will see a computer tablet where you enter your information to be put on the waiting list. Know that this is a cash only donation based restaurant- all proceeds go directly to their rehabilitation programs. Account for $15-$20 per person. Their menu was extensive- breakfast/brunch and lunch menus. I opted for the corned beef hash- nice poached egg atop corned beef potato hash, seasoned nicely and not overly salty. Maybe could have used a side toast and jelly. Hubby ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of eggs and bacon- delicious! I had heard about the comfort café, but had never had an opportunity to try it. Finally got to have lunch there one Saturday afternoon. The service is exceptional. I ordered a side salad and a Reuben sandwich. I consider myself a Reuben snob. I will say this was one of the best Rubens I found in San Antonio. The salad was also very nice. My waitress Gina was attentive and quite friendly. It is pay what you feel comfortable paying and tipping what you feel comfortable tipping. There are no menu prices. I go out of my way to eat here every time I am anywhere within an hour of it on the weekends. The staff have a real passion to help however they can as they want to pay it forward with the help they are receiving on their journey to recovery. The food is out of this world with such large portions. I get the Drunken Monkey every time I go and am so glad with every bite as it is so fresh. Please note that their food is made fresh and the cost is only a recommendation since you give what you can but they only ask cash or check. There is a ATM around the corner but it's best to come with cash in the pocket as it's so worth it. She said everything tasted so good - as evidenced by her empty plate lol. I got the breakfast special, which comes with 2 eggs (over easy), choice of potatoes (homestyle with peppers and onions), choice of meat (sausage) and toast. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage was juicy and delectable! My youngest got the Just for Kids, which comes with 1 egg, 1 chocolate chip pancake, and 1 meat. I asked if they could do a substitution of sorts cuz she doesn't like eggs. They let her have more bacon! We got the pancake flight so we could sample more. Everything was so yum! I absolutely love comfort cafe! This was my 5th time coming to enjoy the delicious food and drinks. Usually i'm in a sweet mood, but today I was craving something savory and saucy. The alfredo with all the veggies satisfied just that. My friend got the huevos ranchero and absolutely loved the unique flavors and tastes. The chicken in my pasta was incredibly juicy and flavorful and honestly think it's the best pasta i've had in town. The staff is always so incredibly sweet and helpful. The chilaquiles were okay, the green and red salsa were not spicy at all and needed more salt. The crabby bennys, were also okay. The coffee was okay, and you get constant refills.
