The battle for best chicken sandwich continues with this new (to me) entrant. I had never even heard of this place until I saw an article in the paper about it. With that being read, I knew it was time to see what they offered. As it is near where my daughter lives, I picked her up and off we went. The location is easy to get in and traffic was not bad today. Tons of parking is available, and since we were eating in a non-peak hour, we parked right in front of the entrance. Walking in, this place remined me of Cane's or Zaxby's. It's the similar layout with ordering up front and then finding a seat. The young man behind the counter was very helpful and very efficient. They seem to offer chicken just about every way you could want it, but I had my mind made up. I wanted the Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich. The order also comes with a side and a drink. The order came quickly and was brought to our table. Everyone got something different but all looked good. My chicken sandwich tasted really good, had a light spice kick, and filled the bun. I enjoyed it but will probably try the Buffalo Ranch next time. So the battle for chicken sandwich supremacy continues. yesterday I ordered a Chicken Club Sandwich Meal. It says cooked to order which is a lie ! The chicken wasn't even hot , just warm to the touch. it also says it comes with cheese and bacon on a toasted bun. I didn't get any of that !! I love chicken tenders, they're one of my favorite things so I was excited about trying this place and they did not disappoint. They're taking covid seriously with restrictions which was nice (if you wanna eat inside) and the staff was super friendly and helpful for our first time. They handmade everything fresh to order which was cool and unexpected. The tenders were peppery, crunchy, juicy and just overall an amazing and solid chicken tender. We visited on a slow Sunday afternoon, my basket pictured ran about $9.99 includes two sauces 3 Wings and 3 chicken strips which take a bit since it's made fresh to order or so it says. So I will give Slim Chickens another shot. I have seen it before but never tried, and not too long ago saw it listed in a best regional restaurants list and decided I had to give it a try. So me and the kiddos stopped in to check it out, the kids went with fingers and Mac and cheese as a side, they were all about it, I went with and 8 piece of wings and fries with a mix of buffalo, and Korean BBQ, for dips with our various orders I decided to try some honey mustard, the daughter loves it with her fingers, some garlic Parmesan, and some blue cheese. The kids got their fingers with no sauce/coating, not fans of spice. As I said they liked theirs, and the Mac and cheese was good and creamy, with a nice cheese flavor. The flavor of the wings was good, buffalo had that classic buffalo tang, with a nice lite heat, the Korean also had some nice heat mixed with sweet for a gojuchang flavor that worked well, nice sweet and heat, the big let down was the wings themselves. The flats were nice and moist and easy to eat, but the drums seemed dry, and overcooked, and hard to eat, I had to tear through the wings to eat them, literally tear through them, the flavor was good but the texture needed work. So I will give them another try, perhaps it was a one off mistake, because I have heard good things, so hopefully it will be good, but for now it seems hit or miss. read more

Going in the door - first thing I'll say is LEND NO WEIGHT to the harsh reviews. Man, people are persnickety. Also - people want to compare to Slim Chicken's to Cane's and/or Zaxby's (in the South). I think this is a different animal. Tenders are breaded differently than both C's and Z's (which are very similar...even their sauces). These tenders are breaded differently (a lighter breading it seems), and have, in my opinion - more of a pepper flavor than the sometimes overly salty breading at C's and Z's. The fries are different, too. Been to this location twice. First, chicken and waffles. Second, three chicken strips and three wings. I thought both meals were good - nothing to send smoke signals over or alert the media about - but good. So why the four stars? When I walked in the first time - the General Manager went out of his way to greet me - hope he does this to everyone when he can. Service was very friendly and fast. The other thing I noticed during both my visits was the way the staff was busting tail. Staff constantly walking around, checking on people - making sure they have everything they need. Impressive. But one day i forced my wife to go and try it and do not regret it at all, and neither does she as now she asks for us to go there when we are around. We first had Slims in Texarkana and loved it. We were excited to get one in Helotes. They started out great with great customer service and delicious food but have gone down to the point that I would rather go elsewhere because they do not seem to care about the customer. The wait time is ridiculous to get your food and they do not give you enough salad dressing or sauces for your meals. You now have to purchase additional ones. Also their meal sizes are getting smaller. Considering their prices you should be able to get enough sauces for your meals without having to pay for additional ones.
