I was very excited for this adventure. My fam and I were in Keystone over Christmas break and I wanted to do something special so I reserved the 19:00 ride and dinner on Christmas Eve. I will admit that when we arrived at the Spa and resort to get the shuttle, I was a little taken back. They have you wait in a dingy basement arcade. It's not the "magical" atmosphere one would think when booking a horse drawn sleigh through the mountains to dinner. I was not impressed and thought that this whole thing was going to be horrible. This wasn't helped by the fact that we had to wait around for over 30 mi. For one family that decided they were more important than everyone else and wanted to show up when they felt like it. I believe that we were all there as required and if you're that tardy we should have left. Because of this, we started late, and the entire event felt rushed from start to finish. Now that the negative is out of the way... The bus took us to the national forest where Keystone has an agreement to use the land for these events. We were met by a beautiful a pair of horses and a large sleigh. We boarded and were given blankets. Off we went. It was pretty fantastic. The coachman was personable and informative. He also had a great sense of humor. The horses took us on a trail with mountains and foothills around us. We were led to a small structure and exited to go in. After seating the fun began. A guitar player and singer, drinks and food. The ambience was rustic and fitting. Perfect. The surprise was that the food was well above expectations. The soup was amazing. The steak and salmon were great. Everyone was friendly and attentive. We ended with a wonderful dessert. We all had such a nice experience. The price seems very high at first and could be a deterrent, but trust me. It's worth it. Don't forget to bring cash for tips! read more

We did the sleigh ride and dinner activity after a day of skiing. Meeting up at the adventure center was easy to navigate although can get crowded, there was a hockey game there. Parking is in a separate lot through a tunnel that was easy to find and not too far away. We took a bus to where the sleigh picked us up. The bus ride was about 15-20 minutes long. It had been snowing all day so we were not driving very fast. The sleigh ride was so fun and cute. The guides were very educational and the sleigh goes pretty slow because they are old. There were two sleighs and two horses each. Each sleigh can hold about 15 people probably. We had about 10 people each. That day was particularly chilly but luckily they had tons of blankets for us to bundle up in on the sleigh ride so it wasn't too bad. The cabin where we eat was super cute and cozy. There was lots of seating with long tables and benches. There was assigned seating and we were the only party of two besides another party so we were seated together. The table was spacious though. As soon as we got there we had hot chocolate, stew, and buttermilk biscuits with butter and honey butter. We had free refills on hot chocolate all night and got a complementary shot of peppermint schnapps to put in. The buttermilk biscuits were amazing and so so delicious. The honey butter was also amazing. The stew was so warm and flavorful as well. We got the steak and the salmon. I got my steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly and was so juicy and tender. The side vegetables and the mashed potatoes were delicious. I also loved the bourbon bbq sauce that they had on the table. I put it on my steak and potatoes. The salmon was also well cooked and super delicious. For dessert we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream. That was also so so good. Drinks were at an extra charge and we had two soda creek lemonades which had bourbon. It was so so good and really set the mood for the dinner in the cabin. The table settings were so cute, we had live entertainment which was really really good, the service was amazing and we loved our whole experience! Apparently they have a summer experience as well and I'd love to try it out someday! The bathroom was unfortunately an outhouse and I was feeling skeptical so I waited to get back to the adventure center to use the bathroom. read more

I had met this girl and she lived in another state and I was trying to plan a first date that would really just wow her. I took her on this sleigh ride dinner in keystone. It started at the lake side village and they give you hot chocolate and you can go ice skating if you get there early. It starts with a beautiful little sleigh ride under the full moon and starlit Rocky Mountains. They take you to this really just totally adorable little cabin and give you this really great soup. And then a nice steak dinner and an amazing dessert. And you can get hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps in it if you so choose. They had music there and I also played a song for her. After the meal you ride the horses back into town and they give you more hot chocolate and blankets. Let me tell you, there's probably not a better choice I could have made to take her on for a first date. She absolute loved it and ended up marrying me. I would absolutely reccomend this as a date night if you are in summit county. All the food was great. Everything about it is wonderful. read more

We did the 7:30pm sleigh ride on a Sunday night in January, with temperatures about 16 degrees F. You check in at Lakeside a half hour before to sign a waiver, then hang out for 20-25 minutes while everyone else does the same. At the appointed starting time, you are led to a bus, and you take a roughly 15 minute ride to the sleigh. You check in with the sleigh driver, who tells you which row to sit in, and you immediately bundle up in the provided blanket because it's freezing cold. The ride itself was maybe ten minutes long, and in the dark, with a crystal clear sky, the stars alone make this experience worthwhile. The two fellows who drove the horses cracked some bad jokes during the ride, and also shared some of the history of the homestead, which was neat. Upon arriving at the cabin, you find your name at one of the tables, and hang up your coats on the provided hooks (layers are good - it's warm in the cabin). There is a carafe of iced water, as well as a thermos of hot chocolate. There is also a pot of stew and a basket of biscuits which you are encouraged to eat. While you're eating, they come around and offer you a shot of peppermint Schnapps for free. There is also a guitarist who performs - we had Randall, who did an awesome job. The main course was chosen when you made the reservation - my husband had steak (which he enjoyed, and that's saying something), and I had chicken (super dry). Your protein is served with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower). Dessert is apple pie and ice cream. There are alcoholic beverages for sale, along with Pepsi products. Throughout the meal, the musician performed and led some sing alongs, which was cute. The bathroom is an outhouse - be prepared to go outside. It's worth it to look at the sky again. At the end of the meal, there is a tip jar for the musician, and you're also encouraged to leave a tip for the waitstaff. Given the experience is $100 a person, it's not cheap, but they work really hard to make it enjoyable for you. The whole thing lasts about three hours. Be prepared to be cold, and bring a really good camera to capture those stars! read more

This was the finale to our trip and it was perfect! The other reviews are still accurate but I will update the info that has changed. We went for the 4:30 seating and I am so glad we did because it was COLD. Dress for warmth! The blankets they provide are very nice but it was snowing the day we went so hats, gloves, etc are a must. The food choices have changed: NY strip, grilled chicken, grilled salmon or hotdog option for kids. Prices: Adult - $88, Children under 12 - $57, Children who choose hotdog option - $40. There were four of us and we ordered one of each item. I tasted everything and everything was delicious - very impressed! Does not include alcohol but does include complimentary shot of Schnapps or Amaretto for adults, hot cocoa, soft drinks, beef barley stew, hot biscuits with two kinds of butter, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted veggies and warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream. The wine selection was nice as well. Bring credit card/ cash for the alcohol and tip. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The guitarist was fun and got everyone singing along. Can't complain about a horse drawn sleigh through the snow. They take you through the beauty of nature as well as give you some history and humor along the way. When you reach a small cabin in the middle on nowhere it's approaching sun down. You get there just in time to see the end of the sun and beginning of the nature light. It's amazing how clear it is outside without lights. Now the cabin is were you are seated for dinner. You get a complimentary shot of peppermint schnapps I believe and the food is served in heavy duty dishes. Not sure the right word for it at the moment. But your plate it like a skillet old school cups very homely. Brings you back. They provide music and they play the part well. Super friendly staff. This is one of my favorite Keystone dining esperiences. Guests meet at the Keystone Activity Center and board a bus to the old Keystone Ranch neighborhood. At the end of the Ranch you will climb aboard one of two huge sleighs that accommodate about 20 people. Pulled by two gigantic Belgian Workhorses, the sleighs take you through an incredible snow covered valley. Take the early seating for the best sunsets. Each passenger gets his or her own blanket to keep the cold at bay. Across a long valley (a golf course in the summer months) and out to an old "barn" you go. The driver tells his passengers about the interesting history of the settling of the Smith Ranch. Favorite Dish: Upon arriving at the barn, diners find tables set with kettles of hot barley soup, a thermos of hot cocoa, water, and home made biscuits. Dinner is a choice of bbq steak or chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. Your choice of beverage; sodas, wine or beer, are included in the price. And when it seems you can eat anymore, dessert is hot apple cobbler with ice cream. A guitarist plays and encourages guests to sing along. When everyone finishes, you board your sleigh again... this time very glad of the blanket... and head back across the dark, snowy valley. I saw a shooting star, a good omen to end a wonderful meal. This sleigh ride and dinner was just magical! There were 5 of us and we went on the 4:30 ride. The temp was about 7 degrees, but we stayed warm with the blankets and our winter gear. (Don't underestimate the cold!) The staff members were all so friendly and fun and the horses are gorgeous. The setting is remarkable and every part of the dinner was absolutely delicious!! We couldn't finish it all, even though we wanted to. We sang and laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the rustic setting and warm hospitality. We would all do this again and again! Do not plan on this during your trip because it is likely they will call and cancel on you the morning of because they do not have enough to fill the sleigh. We were so excited to enjoy this splurge while in Keystone with our kids. Unfortunately not only did they not have the 7:30pm option that was listed on the website but the 4:30 option canceled at 10am the day of. Huge disappointment for a family who travelled all the way to Keystone and will likely never be able to have this experience again. I searched long and hard trying to discern which sleigh ride in Summit Co. would be the best experience. When you are paying $88 a person, you don't want to be disappointed. I called several companies asking about the length of time on the sled. I definitely wanted the ambiance of the sleigh ride experience and did not want it to be super short. I also did not want a one way ride but one that took us to the dinner and then brought us back. I had read that 2 Below's location was not really all that remote and that you could hear traffic noise from the interstate. That was enough for me not to opr for that one. So, I opted for Keystone and was thoroughly charmed as was my whole family. The bus ride to the location took a while, but it was worth it to kind of get a wilderness feel. The sleigh ride was amply long, and the original ranch location with some of the original cowboy cabins was very charming. We had a delicious dinner in a cozy cabin with stew, biscuits and honey butter and very good hot chocolate. The dinner and dessert were equally good. The entertainment was casual guitar and singing in the background, not corny or over the top. There were just a few guests, maybe 20 in all. It was very quaint and everything I was hoping for. The sleigh ride back under the full moon capped off the experience. I would highly recommend. read more
