Really friendly service! The charcuterie board was amazing with a great variety of meats and a pickled caper berry that we mistook for an olive that was also tasty! The pate was terrific with the cranberry preserves. Mains were equally delicious. Sadly ran out of room for dessert. Definitely worth a repeat trip. read more

Wonderful lunch away from the business of downtown Banff. Food-wise, not bad. Three of us ordered the charcuterie plate, which was smaller than expected, but then again, it WAS only meant for two. All the meats were well-prepared, as were the fruits. As my first time trying pâté (Wild Boar in this case), I can say I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The fish and chips we ordered with it were also delicious. The batter was neither too heavy or too light, and the fish was flavorful (pleasant surprise, given that it was cod) Service was great as well. Our waitress was attentive to the constantly growing number of plates scattered around, and was friendly and accommodating even with the odd orders we made. If you're looking for a quieter lunch with less hustle and bustle around, and good Canadian fare, give this place a shot. read more

An atmosphere in the restaurant and surrounding environment was cozy and beautiful. However a server was quite rude. He didn't check my table at all, but others. I was guessing it was too hard to ask us "How is everything?". And the way he served the dish was inappropriate, because while he put down the plate, it was tilted, the top part of food fell down. At that time, we were the only asian guests. Therefore, my thought naturally connected racism or whatever. The foods were so so, I would say. If anyone thinks I am overthinking, please let me know. We ate here at the recommendation of our hotel's front desk staff, and were glad to find it just across the street. The setting is gorgeous, with high ceilings and it was tastefully decorated for Christmas. Our party ordered bottled beers and a few old fashioneds, as well as the onion soup, bison burgers and the artisan salad with chicken. The burgers were fine, although no one had tried pulled beef before. Huge portions and perfect fries. The onion soup was just okay -- lacked salt and not nearly enough cheese. And the salad itself was flavorful but the added chicken was not worth it. Waitstaff was attentive and honest, which we appreciated. We booked this restaurant for our last night in Banff through Open Table. The menu looked interesting- many local game options and pricing seemed inline with what we have experienced in the area for a fine good dinner. Food: I ordered the bison duo and my husband ordered the Boar tenderloin. The Boar was cooked properly albeit a small tenderloin. The bigger problem came with my Duo. Between the two preparations, there was MAYBE four ounces of meat. The meat was quite tasty but the portions were laughable. And for $46cad they were ridiculous. Both of our dishes had vegetables that seemed to have zero seasoning. The one carrot and one stalk of broccolini were not even cooked to al dente. Two mediocre entrees and two glasses of wine- $120cad. Completely not worth it. Service: While the server was nice and chatty, he only checked back once during the dinner and refilled my husbands water glass once. There were only six tables in the restaurant and two servers that we could see. We expected more attention. read more

This place is now called The Prow, and our evening there was so disappointing; to summarize: 1) The chicken breast was *cold* and *undercooked*, and was returned to the kitchen. The returned dish had the chicken fully dried up, and the potatoes and other veggies were mushed and inedible, with the plate looking as if the food was slapped on it instead of re-plated. We were so unhappy with it that the manager ended up removing this dish. 2) The elk steak was ordered as medium-rare, it arrived as medium-well! The waiter, Christine, said it was up to us to decide, and we returned it. It arrived *half-an-hour* later, and was very good, but everyone else finished eating. 3) Beware - a "large party" for this restaurant, is 6 people, 2 of which are small kids! We had to refuse to pay the automatic 18% gratuity, and had to call the manager. 4) The waiter, Christine, was condescending, told me that "6 is a large party in Banff, my love" and that "you're already making a scene, my love". Not OK. 5) Minor - but still - the coloured pencils for the kids all came so un-sharpened, that they couldn't use more than half of them. I guess this place thrives on single visit tourists. Came in for breakfast on a Saturday. The only option is a mediocre buffet. No regular menu. When I say mediocre I mean most things were empty, until we had to ask for more stuff to be brought out. Also terrible service. Had to ask multiple times just for a glass of water, dirty plates sat on our table until we had to ask for them to be cleared. Just overall not very professionally run. The food on the buffet was also average. For $23, you can definitely fill your belly, but I'd say this buffet isn't worth it though. There are way better in the Bow Valley. read more

We had a wonderful dinner at the Sleeping Buffalo. The food was absolutely delicious and the potions generous. I had the elk and my husband had the bison rib special. Absolutely no complaints with the food. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive. After ordering gin and tonics she recommended a local gin which blew our minds. Initially came here for taste of adventure but decided to order off the main menu instead. The charcuterie board was perfect for sharing (it says for two people but can easily be stretched to 4) it contained a wide variety of cured game meats and a very yummy pickled cantaloupe to bring everything together. We also shared the meat duo of elk and bison. The bison was a perfect medium rare, while the elk was a bit dry (I heard this is not uncommon for elk tho. We also ordered the gnocchi dish which was very creamy and delicious and also had a large amounts of veggies and chickpeas in it making it very filling. I don't think I would eat the gnocchi as a meal as it was too dense, it worked well as a side dish though. Service was very friendly. Would recommend stopping by for a drink and charcuterie. read more

This is a great place to dine and enjoy some of the finest wild meats cooked to perfection among other delicious menu items. The decor is cozy and compliments the menu. We tried the duck as well as the bison rib and steak. Amazing! I forget the name of the entree salad but that was also perfection. The sampler appetizer was very tasty too. Make sure to leave some room for their creme brûlée which was heavenly. Best we've had anywhere. Service was as good as the food. Prices are higher than a typical dine out but this is not a typical dining experience. Will return for sure. Breakfast menu and buffet are also very good. read more

As other reviewers have mentioned: The lounge ambiance pre-dinner is very nice with the fireplace, and with the menu + prices, we were expecting a bit more even thought it IS Banff. Specialty meats are the highlight, beef plates were the winner. Duck was overcooked, and portions are average. Vegetables were consistently undercooked, close to unedible. Since this is mentioned by several other reviewers, I have to think this may not be an accident... but I cannot fathom why. Also unfortunate was the lack of attentive service, which has to be part of the equation at a restaurant aspiring to be high-class. The dining room is small, and there were many other waiters, so we could not comprehend why our waitress disappeared for large lengths of time. At one point, 6 out of 7 in our party had emptied their water with no refills in sight. Also had to go search for waitress to request the bill after waiting beyond the point of reasonableness. The restaurant itself has a view of the parking lot, so given that + the prices, it is just not acceptable to fail on simple matters such as woefully undercooked sides and having to chase down waitresses for water refills. The quality of a good restaurant can be measured sometimes in its versatility to do with customers with different needs such as customers who have a demanding toddler. Arriving relatively late to a destination, with our little bundle of joy feeling very hangry, we were urgent to find a place to eat after we settled in. Although it was walking distance from where we were staying, our mental status, and urgency created a situation where we drove past the place at least three times. I was reduced to asking somebody to the exact location, feeling that navigation systems have completely failed me. Once we were directed to the restaurant, we were told that all tables have been reserved, however, there was seating in the lounge. Normally this would be a disappointment, however, it wasn't overly full or overly noisy. Rather, the atmosphere was quaint and the service was impeccable. The server in the bar went out of her way to be helpful for us and our little two-year-old monkey. To wet my whistle, I ordered a red ale on tap that was from the local brewery. It was so amazing, I had to order a second pint. Although they had an upscale menu, they also had pub menu as well. We ordered the latter as it was late and we were in immediate need for sustenance. The buffalo burger was commendable and satisfying, the fries were on the over salty side, but came with a cute micro jar of ketchup. Overall, a pleasurable experience after a long trip. read more

The process of making a reservation worked great at this restaurant. Despite doing it carefully, it was quite unnecessary. We walked in for our 7 PM reservation to find we were the only people in attendance. This was on a cold Monday evening in January so perhaps all the skiers were hunkered down in their hotels. Our server was very efficient and we were soon enjoying glasses of fine red wines. We then ordered the $29 charcuterie plate for two. The meats and cheeses were good. We reflected on the fact that the meats included game and yet they tasted to us very much like pork or beef. A dark, heavy and wholesome bread accompanied the tray and it set off the charcuterie very nicely. The blue cheese, pear, spinach and arugula salad was a perfect salad for my wife's low carb diet. Everything was crisp and cold. My lamb and caribou entree was also really tasty. In hindsight, this seems a rather unusual meat combination and yet it seemed right at the time. Perhaps domesticated animals and wild ones can co-exist, at least on one's plate. A zucchini and corn vegetable combination accompanied it. In all it was a good experience but being the sole occupants did detract from our dining. There is something about going out for dinner that benefits from soft chatter and the laughs of fellow patrons. read more

It is a restaurant that aspires to be classy and refined with its good food and attentive service but falls short due to wandering small children and baseball cap toting individuals. The restaurant is forgiven however as it is located in a resort and must cater to its clientele in-spite of their state of refinement. Best to avoid weekends for that classy feeling. I have always been aware of the BML for accommodation but failed to realize that there was a good restaurant included - thanks to the Visa concierge that suggested this location after my first choice was not available. The main reason for choosing is that we are huge fans of Divino which is a sister restaurant located on Stephen Ave. in Calgary. The location and interior is pure mountain - large timber trusses, big windows overlooking the snow covered boughs on the trees and a rustic smell of aged wood. The room was very quiet even though 3/4 tables were occupied - no screamers. I digress - the food....the menu is meat oriented with some good selections - I chose the tagliatelle that was LOADED with bison short rib - an excellent value for $25. Others ordered the risotto, beef burger and lamb shank which appeared to be decent. BML and Sleeping I wanted to knock you up to a 4.5 but charging $10 for a cup of soup masquerading as a bowl made me hit the value button. Menu is $$$ (+$25 per main entree) The server was efficient in her tasks - too bad she was not a little more engaging to chatting though. read more

If the "gastro" claim is to be believed, a makeover is urgently needed. On family-day long weekend in February, the dining room was less than half-full. Better service, we hoped. Our guests were impressed with the post and beam ambiance, although not much has changed over the years. After a long day of skiing, the bread was tasty, the goulash was hearty. But that's where the positive experience ended. The rest of the meal was as shabby as the upholstery. The servers were friendly but slow. The squash soup was like paste. The ravioli was cold and chewy. The buffalo striploin was cold and tasteless. The ribeye resembled a thin minute-steak, in two slabs. Not wanting to delay or embarrass our guests, we paid the bill and left. The next day we went to the hotel to complain to the dining room manager. Her vague response was, "I am not sure if our chef was in last night or not". The lack of concern and complacency by all of the staff leaves us as cold as the ravioli. This is pubfare quality at fine-dining prices. No creativity, no excuses. read more
