The food is amazing! The staff is friendly. However, my friend and I felt mildly taken advantage of because we ordered two minutes before happy hour and paid full price for everything. Literally, two minutes. This place is not cheap. Hence, my 4-star rating. We had the wine in the can... the rose to be specific and it was a refreshing choice. We were pleasantly surprised. And still felt classy drinking it . Speaking of cool stuff, they had a wide selection of fish including one called a spiny dog fish. Interesting, right? I had the lobster grilled cheese and I will most definitely get it again. It's just an amazing combination. The chowder fries are like poutine but with clam chowder. So good. The dessert menu is lacking... in that, there isn't one. But one of the employees informed us they are working on getting some sweets provided by local businesses. I will definitely be returning. Even if it is just for the canned wine. read more

Winner winner seafood dinner!! Or lunch in our case. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Food came out way faster than we expected and was fresh and hot. Fish and chips - fish was very fresh and the batter was thin and crispy. Fry seasoning was awesome and flavorful. Surf N Turf Burger - lobster was very fresh and all of the flavors blended so well. I can only speak to the fish and chips, which I have had only twice. Full disclosure - I am from New England, and know good fish. My fried fish piece today was 80% crisply crust. I barely could find the fish. I estimate the actual fish was only 2-3 ounces, covered by a very thick coating. The serving of French fries is huge. I have no idea why the serving bowl is so full with fries. I think a more moderate serving of fries with a larger piece of fish would be an improvement. Will not go there again. I prefer the fish and chips at Two Fools Tavern on Central. read more

I really liked Slapfish - the menu has lots of tasty options, the food was good, the restaurant was clean, and the service was friendly and fast. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday and there was no line, but there were a good number of people sitting and enjoying their food. This is a busy shopping and restaurant area, so parking can be a little challenging, but not too bad. We ordered the chips and salsa to share, which came out quickly and were basic but good. I had the single order of the fish and chips, which was a huge portion, but very good. I loved the flavor of the batter they used, and the sauce was delicious! I definitely recommend sticking to the single fish and chips unless you are really hungry - the double must be huge! My dining partner got the ultimate fish taco, which she also enjoyed. They have a good selection of drinks as well. All in all, I look forward to coming back here and trying more items on the menu. read more

First things first, Josh greeted and assisted us on our first dine in experience here! His friendly smile and overall eagerness to take the time to explain the menu by step showed he's a happy employee. Instantly 30% tip to you! Josh is the true face of what customer service should be. I used to love this place. But since the new owners took over, they went WAY downhill. Portions are smaller but is still expensive, fish isn't fresh anymore (they were literally flying in the fish, over night, previously. I met the original owner once and was blown away by their process), and even the avocado I was severed was rotten. I actually complained about it. The menu is half the size and they no longer even offer tilapia. I had an epic with fried cod. It was fine. but it's fast food now. I'm surprised they thought the blatant switcheroo would pass. Bummer. As usual, all the good places in ABQ close ... read more

Five stars for the fresh fish and great service. I'm always willing to pay more for quality food and Slapfish never disappoints. One star off for the absolutely disgusting bathroom. I was literally the first customer through the door at 11:00am, placed my order and went to go wash my hands. Whoa! It didn't look like the toilet had been cleaned in days and someone even left a parting gift on the toilet seat. Since I was the first customer of the day, it was either someone that worked there or a customer from the day before. If the bathroom at opening time is that gross, I'm now concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen and food prep areas. Not OK. read more

Mediocre at best. One "giant" taco was mostly batter and at 11.47 after tax and a tip was a complete rip off. Horrible pop punk rap playing at top volume. Food took nearly 25 minutes to come out. Not returning. read more

This place is just really good. I seem to always get the lobster hoggie (I think that's the name). This was my third trip and each time the service was great and the food was fresh and delicious. We were so excited to visit Slapfish for the first time and it didn't disappoint. I got the cheesy, lobstery Clobster which is a grilled cheese with lobster on it and fries. It was delicious! The hubs ordered the Surf n turf burger, and although it didn't sound appetizing to me it was ah mazing! It's a burger that has lobster on it. They also add a dollop of their Awesomesauce which has just the right amount of creamy goodness and chipotle mixed together. So good! They have a children's menu which was pretty well priced... $5.00 per plate. He got grilled fish bites and tomatoes and carrots. We loved the food and will definitely be back again. I suggest going when is less busy because it was a packed house and seats were difficult to come by on a Friday night. I also suggest dressing warmly because the huge windows and the doors consistently opening to the patio and the front let in a chilly draft. Don't miss out on this little, fun joint! We just ate here. There was a power outage in the area and they had a sign out that they could only serve cold items. We entered anyway. They made us lobster salads which were outstanding. The shrimp burrito is mainly rice with 4 pieces of shrimp with dry rice and dry tortilla. The side of chowder fries is maybe 5 pieces of fries and is a $2 up-charge. The shrimp roll is nice if you order the fried, the grilled shrimp is smaller in comparison. It takes a really long time to receive your order when the store isn't even busy. The store inside is nice but since it's so empty they have the music blasting. read more

Had the Power Bowl. It was okay. Just didn't seem like a lot of flavor on the food, unless you poured the sauce over it. Fish seemed dense and dried. Overall, the experience was good. Just didn't think it was amazing. Customer service wise, the staff checked in with us 3 or 4 times to see if everything was okay. Seem to be a new location. Probably just getting all the systems worked out. I will try again in the future. Concept seems really good. read more

I'm finally writing this review after a handful of visits to Slapfish. I apologize in the delay but the food is here is quite delicious. I should have done my due diligence and written you sooner but I always leave with the itis and need to nap to recoupe. I do my best to not over eat but sometimes it happens here. I only gave them four our five because the consistency hasn't been perfect. They take on that kind of updated fast food vibe where you order, sit down with a number and they bring it to you. Not quite full restaurant style service, but restaurant vibe food. You get the point, a little less of this and that. But on the real, the seafood here is very good. Fresh and tasty. Which I know can be a bit hard to find here in a land locked state, but come, try it, and see for your self. They also offer different variations, so you can get raw, grilled or battered and fried so you decide. I've tried the chowder fries and shrimp ceviche, and lobster taquitos from the starters. The chowder is a bit heavy for the fries in my opinion so if you don't eat this fast, the fries get soggy and it just turns into a mess. Chowder is best served in a cup or bowl and accompanies with something crunchy rather than the other way around. The shrimp ceviche is awesome and not skimpy on the shrimp either! Great for sharing or a meal in itself. Ultimate fish taco is bomb. Get one. I tried the Epic shrimp burrito with the beer battered shrimp but wasn't fully impressed. It started falling apart on my and also didn't have the fries in it as mentioned on the menu. As for the salads and bowls. They are done well with a plethora of ingredients. They are visually pleasing and tasty as well. I would recommend them if you are looking for something a little lighter but still satisfying. Although everything is pretty much made to order the service is always fast and friendly. But you really got like seafood if you are coming here I doubt you will be disappointed. read more

I stopped by here this past Friday night with my wife for dinner. We arrived to Slapfish at around 7:15 and were able to walk right up and order. Slapfish is the type of place where you order your food, grab a number and then they bring out to you. One wall of this place was decorated with pictures of fishing ships and the other side had a reclaimed wood type wall with their name and logo on it. Most of the restaurant consisted of seating and there were two flat screen TVs on the walls. For dinner on this evening my wife and I decided to split the clam chowder fries while I went for the fish and chips entree and she went for the Hawaiian bowl. The menu describes the clam chowder fries as as natural cut fries smothered in clam chowder and bacon while it describes the fish and chips as flaky whitefish served with housemade tartar sauce and real fries. On the day that I was there the whitefish was Hoki and I decided on the fried fish instead of the grilled or beer battered (+$2). Our clam chowder fries came out first and I thought that they were pretty good. The soup seasoned the fries nicely and I really enjoyed the bacon addition. After we had finished with the appetizer our entrees came out. My fish here was really good as it was flakey as promised and glistening. The batter was nice too as it was seasoned perfectly and felt really light. If I had to guess it was made using soda water. Finally the fries that came with my meal were good as well. I used some of the malt vinegar that was around to flavor them for myself and so I can't comment too much on them. The bottom line for me is that I would head to Slapfish again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our food here and we hope that they bring one to Pittsburgh in the future. read more

The old Slapfish would be getting a 5star review but looks like in that past couple months their entire menu changed and definitely not for the better. The quality and selection of the food has gone down considerably and unfortunately I don't think I will ever be coming back. This use to be the only seafood spot I would recommend to people if they asked for a good seafood shack type of place but not anymore. Quick example, they don't have the shrimp rolls anymore. In addition, the fish n chips used to be a large piece of fish that you upgrade to any other fish they had on the menu as long as they had it in stock. I'm addition you couple ask for a single or double(single was already a lot of food) and you could choose from grilled, fried, or beer better fried. Now you pretty much just get like 3 fish stick/tenders that are beer battered. No options on how it's cooked or what fish you want. This isn't just a change but a complete downgrade compared to what you used to get and the price is still just as expensive. Now with the menu changes there is no option the grinders, taquitos, and fish tacos. Don't expect anything special anymore. read more

Lemme put it out there that I was born & raised next to the ocean. Laugh all you want, but I don't trust seafood in the middle of the desert. With that being said... This food *is* out of this world. Seriously, it's amazingly fresh. My family and I come over from the Westside just to get their stuff. For me, it's a personal battle when it comes to the Lobster Taquitos. I just wanna inhale the stupid things because they're so amazing - I'm not ashamed to say two sets end up being my meal! The spicy sauce really brings out the flavor of the lobster! Then there's the Lobster Grinder. Man OH man, that thing will put a hurt on you. The buttered bun they pack the meat into is so heavenly ...mmmm ... I'm getting all drooly just thinking about it. It's a delicious mixture of lobster packed into a warm, heavenly bun that'll be sure to knock your socks off. "Should I try this place?" YAAAAAAAAAAAS! read more

Here I am branching out. Eating more fish haha. Maybe quarantine and not eating out is getting to me. I've heard great things about Snapfish but haven't been, mostly because I'm scared of ordering seafood because if I don't like it, I wasted my money haha. But, I didn't waste it all all. There was so many things on the menu I could have tried but I went with the fish n chips sandwich. You can order it beer battered, fried, blackened etc. I went with beer battered. It looks aaaamazing when it got to the table. Can I say again, I'm so thankful we are opening up again. 2 generous sized potions of fish laid upon a bun filled with delicious coleslaw and a fantastic drizzle of sauce, and a side of fries. I ate every bite. I'd totally go back and eat the same thing again, but I still need to try that famous lobster roll. The place is clean, fast and friendly service. Thank you! read more

Why have I never tried this before? I then ordered the lobster seafood grinder. New England hot dog rolls!!!!!as all New England girls know, they must be buttered on both sides in grilled. This was buttered on both sides and jam packed full of lobster crab meat shrimp, a bit spicy but awesome! my friend had the ultimate fish taco. Absolutely fabulous! Where to start? Wonderful location with ample parking, yes, of course. You walk in the front doors and are greeted by a clean, beautiful space and friendly people, all maintaining appropriate protocols given today's predicament and pandemic. Would you rather order from your car? No problem, they've got you. Would you like to order online? Yep, done. Pick up while you wait and food is brought out to you promptly and safely and you're able to pay in your vehicle--yes, of course! You can also order inside for takeout/to go. I chose the latter. Masks gowned, the managers who took my order were so kind to me. The level of customer service I received was unmatched! I was explained the menu and current FRESH FISH selections and given recommendations. I love this! There was no pressure to order or try anything, just great suggestions. I elected to order the lobster taquitos, shrimp ceviche, and the INCREDIBLE surf n turf burger. I like spice and I am a sauce girl... so, of course, they offer green chile AND fresh sliced jalapeños, either raw or grilled... and their sauces! Oh em gee, so wonderful. The salsa and their awesome sauce? AWESOME! There is a great drink selection in the fridge--Diet Coke for me! All of my food was ready so quickly and I could see all of the chefs in the back practicing safely as well, donned in their masks and gloves. I overheard a phone-in order and they say you can hear a smile over the phone and that certainly was true when the gentleman behind the counter took the order! Again, top-notch team members, Slapfish! Armed with my food, beautifully packaged and sauces separated so nothing would get soggy, I headed back home to enjoy my feast. Everyone: the food was So. Good. The burger was juicy and covered in crab, lobster, and cheesy goodness. The bun was perfect, toasted on the inside and soft and buttery on the outside. The French fries were crispy and seasoned to perfection. The ceviche was just the right amount of lime and spices with shrimp galore and all the extras that ceviche should have--and the chips that come along with it are AMAZING! Last but not least, the taquitos were delicious, especially with my fresh jalapeños, sauce, and salsa! We must continue to support local businesses and Slapfish should be at the top of your list! It was so great, we're planning on going again tomorrow! read more

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but this place slapped me silly. As a desert dweller, Slapfish is the reason I travel to the coasts; no kidding, when I plan a trip to, say, Boston, Fenway Park isn't my top priority. I'm all about seafood, baby, every meal of the day, every day of the getaway. It's easy to justify a mercury overdose when you live in a town that rarely nails a worthy ceviche. Whelp, I ate my words for lunch yesterday. Quick biz note, in case you're wondering, ABQ is one of 14 Slapfish cities, so no, this isn't a local concept and yes, one bite of a Grinder will tell you why this chain is currently off the chain. I'm going to posit that the sammie actually outperformed a terrific lobster roll I enjoyed in January, in Manhattan, composed of lobster caught the same day. This isn't to state that Slapfish's fare tastes better, it doesn't, in fact it's negligibly sleepy, but when it comes to mollusk, clam and yeah, even crustacean, as a general rule, I don't mind the frozen stuff. (With one exception: stone crab, fresh harvested, cooked and slathered in lemon butter: I go nuts.) With high temps currently topping 85 in April, this place is primed for shorts, tank tops and flip flops. This food tastes best on a beach, but the high desert definitely works. I'm really glad it's here, I dug the vibes from employees, and I'm throwing my hands in the air for scallops. Can I just say that? Friggin' thrilled for scallops. read more

I think I'm singlehandedly funding the national expansion of this place. Seriously. The food is that good. I love the concept, where you can get one of 5-8 fresh fish choices on a sandwich, salad or in a bowl, either grilled or fried. There's also a couple dozen options for getting all kinds of seafood in a burrito, grilled cheese, or even on top of a burger. Yum! My "regular" order is getting grilled fish (salmon, shark, grouper cheeks, mahi mahi and barramundi have all been sampled) in a bowl on top of a double order of grilled vegetables. Yum yum yum!! Super healthy and super tasty. And a lot less $$$$ than Pappadeaux, which used to be my seafood purveyor of choice. The staff all recognize me by now, and greet me accordingly. The eating area isn't luxe but it doesn't have to be. You're here for some super fresh fish and the rest is gravy. Or, more appropriately, chowder. Love this place. The only way to improve it would be to move it into my house. Which I'm not opposed to. Call me! ;) read more

I decided to take a friend here as a treat and was woefully disappointed. I ordered the lobster roll for $27 and received a roll that was so burned on the bottom it was black, and the lobster was just that - plain dry lobster without any sauce or seasoning. It actually felt like a joke. my friend ordered the fish and chips which were so greasy a pool of grease was collecting on the plate. when the owner came by to ask if we were enjoying our food, we honestly said no. He asked if there was anything he could do to fix that, to which we replied a refund would be nice. The owner said he couldn't do that, and so we left our uneaten Slapfish food and will not be returning. I had been there three times before this and enjoyed it - but I believe there is either new management or a new cook, and it's a restaurant worth avoiding at this rate for the price point and the bad food. read more

Slapfish is a trendy fast casual restaurant serving up Mexican seafood fusion. The restaurant interior is sleek, modern, and comfortable, like Chipotle meets Panera. You'll order at a counter, then the staff will bring your food to you when it's ready. Most items on the menu just specify "with fish," and you can then choose the fish you'd prefer from their list of available fish for the day. However, some fish might cost more vs. others. I tried the specialty "two-handed" taco with swordfish. It was more of a tostada than a taco - the tortilla was crispy and inflexible, and it was not at all conducive to eating with your hands. So I dug I'm with a fork. The swordfish was excellently grilled, and the other toppings and sauces were tasty. We also got the shrimp ceviche as a side, which I'd highly recommend. There were a lot of shrimp, and it came with flavorful seasoned tortilla chips for scooping. The overall lunch was casual and satisfying. They have a nice variety of items, so I could happily come back to try something different. Check it out if you're in a fishy mood! read more

Who knew that the ideal sauce to smother steak fries is actually clam chowder? Slapfish, apparently. Especially when there's a generous helping of crumbled bacon adding it's smokiness to the mix. We were debating the menu near the door when the owner came to greet us and offer assistance. That was unexpected and just plain awesome! He talked up the Octostada, which was one of the specials of the day, advising that he always has the Lobster Roll we were debating, but the Octostada has a specific season of availability. Naturally, we were swayed and went for the Octostada. So glad we did, because it was every bit as good and tasted just as fresh as many cevices we have had in coastal locales. The same was also true of our shrimp cevice appetizer, at least in the qualities of freshness and brightness of the flavors. We have never had such spicy cevice anywhere else. In our case, that picante kick was just what every other ceviceria lacks and Slapfish finally got right. Our other shared plate was a Shrimp roll, for which I ordered a side of Awesome Sauce. Yes, that's an actual menu item, and the title does not lie. Not sure exactly how they made a basic white bread bun taste so darned amazing, but they did, then stuffed and piled it with perfectly cooked jumbo prawns. The spiciness of the Awesome Sauce was that nod to local cuisine that elevated this New England-style street food into fusion bliss. read more
