I just tried Lucky Boy for the first time. It's small and only open 11-3. The interior is tidy with an aesthetic that brought me back to places I frequented in the 80s! My first visit to this establishment was on November 30, 2025. It has nice parking and good signage. It's a small restaurant with seating of about 20 people. Greeted by the head chef and owner. Decor is casual and relaxed. The menu has a combination of foods in Chinese style, and various hamburgers. I had an egg foo young hamburger and was absolutely delighted and surprised with it. The prices here are excellent. This is casual dining with excellent food at wonderful prices. I absolutely recommend it. read more

Whike in ABQ we wanted to try the as seen in the movie Army of the Dead restaurant Lucky Boy. The place is very small. Maybe seating for 15 people. It was hot inside and not very clean. There was flies flying around and just not impressive visually. Definitely a hole in the wall. The folks that work there were extremely nice and welcoming to us. We were the only customers there on a Saturday at 1130am. They offer Chinese and some American dishes. We had both. For 4 people to eat it was 33 bucks. So definitely a great value! The food was barely ok quality and taste wise. Nothing impressive. It lacked salt. The food was prepared quickly and came out swiftly. My take is this, if you want to go just to see what was in the movie great. But I would recommend grabbing food else where if you are looking for a good meal. read more

What's not to love about a couple that has been serving the community for over 50 years! Egg fu young burger was very large tasted great. Real burgers at real affordable prices, very refreshing. Hot and sour soup (asked for mild) was a bit heavy on hot and light on sour. The building is very old and not very updated, and maybe could have less clutter, but it is clean and not dusty, and you see the entire kitchen as they cook in front of everyone. They are very friendly, and we saw numerous people coming in to get lunch, sharing grandchildren stories, such an old-school neighborhood establishment that's obviously very loved and appreciated. read more

So you get what you pay for right? Lucky Boy is probably the only place in town you can still get a full meal for so cheap. It is very much American Chinese food, sugary sauces and fried everything but you don't come to Lucky Boy expecting anything else. It is a great cheap eat, quick and friendly. The owners are super sweet and definitely worth chatting with. I just love how walking into the space is like jumping back a few decades. It is also just kind of cool how much attention it gets from local artists as well as big time movie producers. It's quirky and random. Remember to bring cash because if not you will miss out. Hole in a wall place. Where else could you get a full meal that fits a budget of $5 these days?!? The place isn't luxurious or anything...but does the job of curbing your hunger pretty well! You get a basic choice of hamburger or Chinese meal..and are able to feel satisfied financially and physically. The owners are nice, down to earth Chinese couple. They take the time to greet their customers as well. It seems they recognize their regular customers, too. Overall, great, awesome place to stop by for lunch. Went there & got lucky fried rice, chicken lo mein, egg roll, wontons& green chile burger. My coworker said the burger was a bit dry but wontons, fried rice, lo mein & eggroll were pretty good! The dishes don't have a lot of soy sauce which is nice because u can customize yourself. I'll go there again to try something else. Be aware that prices aren't the same on the menu posted. Great service, prices and food! I tried the egg foo young burger so I could have a little of their fusion food. The lady was nice and we chatted for a bit. I was able to eat inside. The place wasn't super busy, but you could tell there were many regulars who the owners knew by name. This Chinese eatery is a staple in NM. It's a wonder they haven't been in Diners, Drive in's and Dives yet! It looks pretty shabby outside and inside BUT the food is amazing and the prices will have you double blinking to make sure they are really that cheap. My boyfriend has been coming here over 30 years since he was a child. The same 2 people have owned and cooked fresh since the beginning. I always get the combo sweet and sour chicken plate. Chicken pieces are extremely big and juicy. I order a separate LUCKY FRIED RICE over their regular fried rice everytime because it has more veggies and a better taste. They also have green Chile cheeseburgers on the menu which I believe is the best in abq! We got all this food plus milkshakes in the photo for 19 dollars!! People saying its frozen from Costco dont know the couple who owns it. They make everything by hand every morning. Give it a try. The price alone is worth it! read more

Love me some Lucky Boy! The Combo A sweet and sour chicken is phenomenal. The sweet & sour chicken itself is amazing. Crunchy outside with a perfectly cook juicy, tender center! The egg rolls are some of my favorite that I have ever had. The fried rice is delicious as well. All of this comes on a heaping plate for less than 4 dollars! I don't think you can beat these prices anywhere else in the country! The owners are spectacular, and very nice. The lady always remembers me and i rarely go anymore since i live so far! They are very kind and hard working people. I can never resist getting the combo A when I stop in but my friend swears by the green chilli cheeseburger also! He say's it's one of the best he's ever had. He'll occasionally drive from Rio Rancho just to get one! The decor and inside is extremely nostalgic to me. I used to love this place but hadn't been here in years. The interior is horrific. There are open containers of foods sitting out in plain view. I almost left but decided to give it a shot. I ordered beef with broccoli to go. The cook heaped a couple spoonfuls out of different pots and threw a spoon of sauce on top. I heated it later. It has some type of white, pasty sauce that was truly inedible. I hate to give a bad review. It's not something I make a habit of doing. I'm truly beyond words as to what else to even say. Lucky Boy is one of THE strangest places I've ever eaten. The first time I walked in, I seriously considered running out of the place screaming. It looks dirty. There are no decorations on the walls. There is a large bucket with soapy water that you are expected to bus your own silverware to upon completion of a meal. In spite of that, I was intrigued, so I placed my order... and I've been going back ever since. The menu consists of a combination of Chinese and American food items. When I say "combination", I MEAN combination. They sell an "Egg Fu Young Burger", for example. More traditional Chinese restaurant items (fried rice, wontons, sweet and sour chicken) and American items (cheeseburger, onion rings, fries, shakes) are also sold. All of the food is cheap. SUPER cheap. And it also happens to be GOOD. My usual menu includes: Sweet and sour chicken + onion rings + vanilla shake. Not exactly the breakfast of champions, but tasty nonetheless. Honestly, though, the main reason I keep coming back is that the place intrigues me. It's not the cleanest place. I never eat at the restaurant itself; usually I order takeout on a nice afternoon day and enjoy it at the park down the street. It's not the closest, either. But for some reason, I'm drawn to it. Apparently, the owners (who appear to be the sole employees) have had the restaurant for something like 20 years. They are an long-standing part of the area and community. I can't imagine that they are making major buck$, but they have survived there for decades... and something about that comforts me. So, the next time you are feeling thrifty, do yourself a favor and head on over to Lucky Boy. Order a nice, heaping plate of sweet and sour chicken and a milk-shake. To-go. Green Chile + Burger + Egg Foo Yung = where on earth have you been all my life? it's not the best patty but somehow the combination of it all makes for a magical burger. The food was horrible! Unless you like your mixed vegetables from a can and they put them in everything even the egg drop soup. The sweet and sour chicken was covered in a gloppy duck sauce which did not drown out the taste of the flavorless boiled chicken. I can't think of one good thing to say about this place. When I went to order the lady came from making dumplings. As they on take cash she handled the cash with flour and dough on her fingers. She then goes back to making dumpling with out washing her hands. GROSS. Then I got my broccoli chicken. Frozen vegetables, over cooked mushy fried rice, flavorless sauce and virtually no meat. After looking at the mess they served I noticed they did not have a wok on the cooking line. How can you cook Chinese with no wok. Called in a to go order and was hung up on, called back to verify that order was placed. Got there and order was incorrect. I finally got my order of Broccoli Beef with fried rice. My meal ended up being a California Blend of frozen veggies with corn and cabbage added; warmed up and added to slimy grey chunks of "beef" that were size of fingernails. This was added to white rice with soy sauce (aka fried rice) into a soupy wet mixture of reheated veggies. I couldn't eat it, it was inedible! I got a side of wontons and they were burnt. I ate the least burnt wontons and now I'm out almost $8 for a meal that was inedible! read more

I. Love. Lucky. Boy. Seriously. They don't make 'em like this anymore. It's about as divey as you can get without totally scaring away your customers--which I mean in a great way, because the places that haven't ever changed are the places who have a loyal customer base. They don't need to change! I haven't ordered Chinese food here in years, but it's about what you'd expect: Sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, etc. Standard, Americanized fare at a ridiculously reasonable price. The burgers are awesome. You can get a double green chile cheese burger and fries for under five bucks, and it will keep you full for half of the day. Um, did I mention that it is DELICIOUS?! There is something about cooking those patties on a flattop grill that just keeps things greasy and GOOD. If you've only ever driven by Lucky Boy and thought, "God. That place looks..." do yourself a favor: go in and get lunch. It's really an Albuquerque staple that is not to be missed.
