Shrimp Cerviche
Kevin M.

This is one of my favorite seafood places to go to! I love the fact that their daily fish changes. And the daily fish is not just some ordinary fish, you can range from barracuda to hoki. They also or adaptable to what kind of food you want. For example you can order a certain fish on a sandwich, rice bowl, or tacos. I started off with the ceviche which tasted like a seafood salsa. It was absolutely tasted good. For the main course, I got the ultimate fish taco which was huge! For the type of fish, I got the Waldo which was a fatty kind of fish. But it tasted so good as well. It was cooked perfectly, the sauce complemented the flavor well. Finally the staff is amazing as well. They are patient and are willing to give their suggestions. I will definitely come here again!

We love Slapfish! Lots of good fish and seafood options. You can get bowls, sandwiches, burritos, fish and chips, great sides. I love the poke bowl and protein bowl. The chowder is great. Kids menu has some good options for kids. There are always daily options and seasonal items. Great sides also!. Service is quick after you order at the counter.

So good I might finish that juice. I haven't had a better ceviche in Albuquerque. If you want a before picture- Go take one !!!

Slapfish was one of my go to's for the last few years. They recently were bought out by their corporate office and made big changes. You can definitely see their influence from choices of food now available to their marketing. I personally don't find any of the changes good for the consumers. They cut out a few of the foods I like as well. What they have is still good, but not as good! The store is still nice and clean, employees are great and I still aways recommend to tip your servers!!

Salmon??

We have been going to Slap Fish since they opened. We use to love it here. Over the last couple of years, the quality of the food has declined. They serve you a giant bowl of rice and veggies and strips of fish? I would rather pay an 21$ dollars for a bowl, and actually get a 4oz piece of salmon at least. Staff is still nice, but probably won't be coming back anytime soon. Our Family is over 25 plus people and we all feel the same. Hope it goes back to how it use to be!

I have gone to Slapfish for a few years now. The fish was excellent the first couple of times. I don't get to Albuquerque as often as I like and thought I would treat myself to something special. The guy at the counter was really friendly. I ordered fish and chips. Only 1 customer came in the entire time. My fish was way too thin and over fried. I had to use the metal knife to cut through it. One piece was just batter. The coleslaw was just purple cabbage with a little dressing and herbs. The fries were seasoned really well and the best part of the meal. I guess I am just too shy to complain, which is what I should've done. Today, I just made bad choices. Even my lemon slice was dried out.

Chowder fries

Chowder fries?!? Friggin' ingenious!! I'm salivating just thinking of them. The fries were an easy choice. The rest was difficult to narrow down, big we finally decided on and the lobster taquitos, clobster grilled cheese (with add on green chiles), and the poke bowl. All excellent! I was really overwhelmed (in a good way) with all the side and condiment options every dish had to choose from. As a self proclaimed condiment queen, I was in heaven. Sauces galore here! ...and then there were the drinks. We couldn't decide between the two hard ciders, so our man offered us samples of both the Sandia pineapple cider and the bosque cider. Still indecisive after the tasting, we got one of each. I absolutely loved the pineapple cider though! Service was so helpful, friendly and patient! A win all around.

So yummy and nice environment! The staff was so helpful to explain about their food and recommended some best seller!!! I love it in there! Highly recommend! Definitely come back!

Grilled Fish Bowl

Love the healthy options available at Slap Fish when you're in a hurry on lunch from work. I usually get the Grilled Fish bowl with brown rice. This location on Holly Dr. is far better that the other one on Louisiana. Although we've seen gradual price increases with pandemic and supply chain shortages, this location doesn't nickel and dime you like the Louisiana location. The option of brown rice is included for the $15 price and you can request extra dressing or herb sauce at no extra charge. Give them a try for a healthy meal on short time!

Fresh, crunchy, yum.

Dang, it is good. I am from the East Coast and love me sone seafood which is had to find where I live, in Alamogordo. So, when I went to Abq for a multiday conference I felt sure, "This city must have decent seafood somewhere." All the cravings were satisfied by the fresh and amazing poke bowl, the traditional fish and chips, and a buttery lobster roll! Service was the nice.

Yum!

Had the Epic Shrimp Burrito today! It was a delicious wrapped culinary "present" with layers of delectable flavor!! The size was enormous! And every single layer of crunch, sauce, texture, flavor... was so deliciously satisfying for my taste buds. The shrimp was delicately & intentionally cooked by a well experienced chef who obviously was not rushed, and I'm almost certain he must have been reciting poetry to my shrimp as he prepared it because each plump, tender, juicy, sweet shrimp was so deliciously perfect! These shrimp must have swam in holy water their whole lives! They were just the right texture when I bit into them to prove the chef knew exactly what he was doing! Mmmm I lick my lips still hoping for a trace of flavor! This is how it's done folks!

Ultimate fish taco
Jaime C.

Slapfish is definitely an asset to our community...what they do, they do well. The service is fantastic, and they are ready to help walk you through the menu and give you the run down of all the deets that make their dishes snap crackle pop. I didn't have a lot of time, so I ordered the ultimate fish taco, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is hip, local beers on tap, and for as long as the line was, they were incredibly fast and efficient and there was no lag time at all. This is surely going to be a go to when I'm craving seafood, and there's a good variety to choose from. Happy for this little oasis in the desert :)

Ashley L.

So lobster rolls are my dream food. If I had to pick a last meal, it would be a bomb lobster roll. I'm super picky about them. I've been dying to try Slapfish since they opened and finally got the chance today! I ordered a lobster roll and fries with tarter sauce to go. It was $22 plus tax (market price) for all of it! When I first saw it, I was disappointed at how much lobster was in it. But once I took a bite, I realized there was a lot more lobster inside! A lot of places cheap out by overdoing the mayo and butter to pretend there is more lobster. Not Slapfish! Here they put a TON of fresh, delicious lobster with just enough mayo and butter to flavor it. The bread and pickle on the side were also delicious! The fries had incredible seasoning and crunch and the tartar sauce was amazing! This might be my new favorite place!

It came with a champagne vinaigrette, which didn't really seem like enough, so I ordered a side of ranch. My partner didn't eat the pinon that came with her meal, so I threw those on my salad as well. My partner ordered the Pesto Pasta with grilled chicken. She also got a side of the sauteed balsamic mushroom. Whoa! Those mushrooms were delicious! For drinks she ordered the bourbon mule, and I got my typical IPA. The meal and drinks hit the spot. I can always count on Tula's to quench my thirst and fuel my appetite. The host and server were very polite. The place wasn't packed, so the ambiance was chill. The quinoa salad was similarly unbalanced, consisting mostly of plain, unseasoned quinoa with very little else. Note* there are two different doors to enter, opposite each other, both opening into what they call the marketplace, but one is near the hostess stand, and the other is across the room. There should be a sign that directs you toward the hostess stand. To whet my appetite, an amuse-bouche was brought out. It was a small slice of duck placed on focaccia bread topped with mango chutney. Off to a great start, if this is a representation of what's to come. For the first course, I ordered the brioche tart and the bread course. The bread course offered three different types of bread (see menu below) served with a large pat of soft butter. The butter had a heavy hand of coarse salt on top. The varieties of bread were delicious. The Brioche tart isn't what I was expecting. I am not sure why it is called a tart. It was on what appeared to be a flatbread piled high with sliced mortadella. The potatoes were cubed so small; their size rivaled the coarse salt, and they were sparsely sprinkled throughout. A few pieces of red onion were also interspersed. I sent it back because the flatbread was hard to slice and the mortadella was overbearing in size and aroma. The second course was the fruit salad. Heavy on the black pepper. It wasn't memorable. It was plated on a dinner plate with a thin layer of savory dressing lining the plate, followed by a single combined layer of sliced fruit and chopped iceberg lettuce, topped with black pepper. There was more salt on the butter and black pepper on the fruit than dressing on the salad. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it wasn't drowning in dressing. But a smidge more would have been nice. I also ordered the espresso martini, and that was very delicious! At this point in the meal, my mouth is so parched from all the salt that I am drinking several glasses of water already. The third course was duck, which was cooked to perfection. The peaches in the dish gave a nice flavor. The rice was delicious and contained large pieces of green onions. The green onions were definitely not as subtle as the potatoes in the tart. Again, black pepper was everywhere. I think that is the chef's favorite spice. Salt and pepper permeated the courses. It's a shame, because there is a plethora of herbs and spices chefs can use to flavor foods. At this point, it is soooo salty; I am drinking the entire carafe of water placed on the table. For dessert, I ordered the Basque cheesecake. It was the highlight of the meal. It was not too sweet, and the flavor stood out on its own. I ordered coffee with the meal, with cream and sugar. The waitress brought everything over but didn't bring a coffee spoon. I simply licked my cheesecake spoon clean and used the same spoon to stir my coffee. I only mention it because coffee spoons are one of the little details that make a restaurant stand out, especially if you are trying to be compared to a Michelin restaurant. I have eaten at many great restaurants and this one did not stand out to me. Positive notes* all of the staff members were friendly and provided good service. That is one way to my heart. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make me want to return. Not because the food was terrible, but for the price, I expected a better meal.

Which is exactly why the evening's annoying missteps were so disappointing. Service was well intentioned but unpolished. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed and, at times, unfamiliar with the menu -- a problem when guests are asking genuine questions about the food and wine. We ordered bread which came before our drinks were served. Wine service was inconsistent. I ordered an Albariño by the glass - 6 oz. My sister ordered the Cabernet listed on the menu as a recommended pairing for her entrée, priced at $11. After we placed our drink orders, the waiter returned to inform her that the menu price was incorrect -- the wine was actually $18. She agreed to proceed. He then asked whether she wanted "a half glass or a full glass," which is an oddly imprecise question at a restaurant whose menu specifies pours in 3, 6, and 9 oz increments. She said half glass. What arrived was 3 oz of wine in a small serving carafe, which the waiter simply poured into her glass -- no bottle presented, no taste offered. My own Albariño, by contrast, was brought to the table in the bottle with a proper taste before pouring. The disparity in service between the two of us was striking. A simple, clear statement -- "3 oz of this wine is $18, not $11; would you still like it?" -- would have resolved everything cleanly. Instead, the vague "half or full glass" framing left my sister without the information she needed to make an informed choice. For what it's worth, the wine itself was extraordinarily tannic -- borderline undrinkable -- and I would have sent it back. My nephew ordered a top shelf whiskey. The waiter told him "we don't have that". My nephew said "it's on your menu" to which the waiter responded "oh, let me check on that". There seemed to be too many instances of the waiter running back to the bar to check on stuff. Anyway, it was available. The waiter apologized. We ordered the bread which was served before our drinks arrived. Food took about an hour which is fine - I don't have an issue with that but during that time we never saw the waiter again. I ordered the soup of the day - potato and leek which was delicious. Followed by the blackberry salad, which was my main course. Both arrived simultaneously, with the salad placed in front of me and the soup set to the side as an afterthought. At a restaurant at this price point, the expectation that soup precedes salad is not an eccentricity -- it is simply correct service. When I expressed my surprise, the servers seemed genuinely puzzled, which suggests this may be a training gap rather than an isolated incident. As for the salad itself -- it was pleasant, but pleasant is not enough here. The blackberry salad was the kind of thing you might enjoy at a well-run casual chain: competently assembled, inoffensive, and forgettable. At a farm-to-table restaurant with access to exceptional local ingredients, I expect the plate to reflect that -- more intentional presentation, more layered flavors, something that is more elevated than what was presented. This one didn't. The gap between the setting and what landed on the table was wider than it should have been. My sister and nephews ordered the filet mignon and rib eye. Both arrived pre-sliced -- a presentation trend that has made its way into fine dining, though one that divides opinion. My concern, beyond personal preference, is practical: sliced meat loses heat faster, and at roughly $80 per entrée, guests should receive their steak in the condition that best showcases it. The quality was good, not exceptional. Los Poblanos is a restaurant with genuine promise and a setting that few can match. The concept is right; the execution needs work. The issues I encountered -- inconsistent wine service, course sequencing, and a discombobulated waiter-- are not kitchen problems. They are fixable. I hope the restaurant takes that seriously, because the bones here are excellent and the experience should be too.

My husband surprised me with dinner here while we were in Albuquerque celebrating my 50th birthday,…read moreand it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. This charming little bistro near the south end of Old Town is elegant, welcoming, and truly a hidden gem. Having convenient on-site parking was a nice bonus, and we were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived. Our server, Christopher, made the evening even more memorable. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He also took the time to recommend several local restaurants and places to visit, which we really appreciated. We started with the mussels, and they were outstanding--fresh, tender, and served in a rich, spicy butter broth with perfectly toasted crusty bread for dipping. My cedar plank salmon was cooked beautifully, full of flavor, and paired with a delicious chorizo risotto. My husband ordered the filet mignon, and after trying a bite, I can understand why he said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had. The mushroom risotto and seasonal vegetables were the perfect complement, and the fresh salad with homemade dressing was a great start to the meal. To top off the evening, the staff surprised me with a three-flavor sherbet dessert complete with a birthday candle and a thoughtful personalized birthday card. It was such a sweet touch that made me feel truly celebrated. We couldn't leave without trying the German chocolate cake, and it was the perfect ending to an unforgettable dinner. Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to come back and try more of the menu the next time we're in town.

I absolutely LOVE Seared. The prices are pretty darn great for an upscale restaurant and the food…read moreis quite delicious! The green chili risotto is a must try. The last time I went I ordered the salmon and chicharrones risotto and ohhhh man it was good. It was cooked to perfection! One of our guests ordered the filet at medium and it was more like rare. They were able to cook it a little more, but beware on their steak temps. My son got a scallop special with mushroom risotto and he loved it. My other friend got the steak kabobs and she loved her also. The service was decent. We did sit for about 30 minutes at one point before ordering and we were already a bit behind schedule in trying to get out for a play at Albuquerque Little Theater. We let our server know and he didn't really help us out much. We got to our play on time, but barely. He also seemed annoyed at us for letting him know we needed to get out of there. He actually seemed annoyed about a few different things. I've had other servers there that are much kinder and more patient. He knows his food, but he is not the kindest. I do want to check out the little bar area they just opened. It looks more relaxed. They mostly have high tables over in that new bar area which my little short legs don't appreciate, but sitting at the bar sounds fabulous. I'll definitely be back! Cheers!
