I've been bringing my dress clothes for dry cleaning to Skyline Cleaners at Barracks Road for years now. I have only ever had a good experience here. The rates are fair, the clothes come out great, and they have never been late fulfilling my orders. Also the people I interact with there are always really nice and helpful. I really like their system where everything is linked to my phone number, even my preferences regarding how starched I want my shirts. I highly recommend bringing your dry cleaning to this establishment. PS. I saw another reviewer posted that dry cleaning chemicals can cause bipolar. As a scientist I found this claim dubious, and looking closely at that reviewers remarks, the article they link is an an almost decade old news article regarding leeching of certain dry cleaning chemicals into the drinking water of certain denizens in the Cape Cod region. Rest assured Skyline cleaners uses industry standard dry cleaning chemicals and practices. Clothes smell very odd upon pick-up, not clean and like someone else's perfume. Closes early on Saturdays before 3pm.

Paid a premium to have large comforters cleaned only have all the filling balled up and corners and edges with no filling at all. The whole reason for taking them to skyline was based on my assumption they would use large capacity machines. Should have taken them to a laundromat and done them myself, the right way and for a fraction of the price. Had these comforters done by others with NO issues. Very disappointed. read more

Cleaning of muddy wedding dress. Dropped off sept 7th, was called for for an exstension on sept 20th. Left message on sept 25th for update no return call. Called 26th two times left message no return call. Went by sept 27th was told it was ready. Asked when it was ready told i dont know when it got got and no explanation why no calls were made. Looked at dress still had mud twigs and leaves. What did i pay 100.00 for and where has it been not told it was leaving their shop. Guess i will pick leaves and twigs out myself read more

A shirt that was white when I dropped it off came back with burn stains and a tag flagging there was a permanent stain - making it look like I dropped it off with stains. Dropped off a nice, white duvet cover that came back with two stains (no tag indicating there were stains or notification when I picked up the item) and a hole. read more

Beware- this place RUINED my girlfriend's dress when I took it for cleaning after an outdoor wedding we attended. It had a mud stain that should have easily come out and that I brought up to them ahead of time. Instead of cleaning it or telling me that they couldn't clean it, they ran it through the dry process, which basically sealed the stain into the fabric further. Weeks later my girlfriend noticed an inconspicuous tag on it that recommended a different cleaning process, but by then the stain was dried on and old, and will basically never come out. She was PISSED! Must be nice to have a job you can suck at and still get paid- it was expensive as hell, and again absolutely DESTROYED this dress. read more

My wife has been using this dry cleaning facility for a year. I have two complaints and will not use this facility ever again. I strongly encourage anyone to stay away from this business if you want to make sure your clothes are well taken care of. 1. They don't take care of delicate clothes. Suits, shirts and regular pants are fine. However, my wife was at the facility to complain about her friend's designer shirt, which was damaged at the facility. The owners guaranteed that they can take care of the shirt so delicate. Long story shirt, they mishandled the item and it was damaged. the owners were rude and never offered an apology even though they acknowledged that it happened when they processed the shirt. 2. Their customer service is awful. My wife and her friend would have been okay if the owners offered at least an apology. The owners were condescending and rude for the whole time. In a service industry such as a laundry service, I cannot believe their lack of professionalism. I am deeply sorry that I have been using this business. These guys are horrible. I took my items into be cleaned. None of the shirts or sweaters look like they touched, the stains that were on two of my sweaters were not major and my other sweater was covered in lint. I did not use their dry cleaning service however I needed to buy some collar stays and went in for that purpose. Their response was yes we can sell some to you or you can grab some from a box we have of old collar stays. They don't know me from Adam but offered great customer service. Really great service and results. I would give 5 stars for service, reliability, and quality. The only drawback is that they still use TOXIC CHEMICALS. There is another dry cleaning company that uses eco chemistry BUT I have had bad experiences (lost items, closed during business hours, missing promised completion dates even with business trip deadline) This is why I wish Skyline would upgrade their chemistry! I cannot say enough good things about them. Terri and her husband own it and they are nice as can be. Everyone they have working for them has impeccable customer service. They are all sweet, patient and very competent. They bend over backward to make sure you are happy and get what you want. I take 3-5 of my husband's dress shirts there every week and we have never had one problem. They always come back perfect. Don't think I've ever written a review before but the owner today really made me want to post something. After trying to peacefully express my frustration to the owner about an issue I had with my order, she immediately became very defensive and argued with me to the point where I just was happy to pay so I didn't have to continue the conversation. But instead of letting me leave she continued to explain to me why I was wrong holding onto my garmet so I couldn't leave. I would expect that from staff *maybe* but from an owner that's pretty sad. I moved from NYC to Charlottesville for business school and often needed to get my shirts and suits dry cleaned while going through the recruiting process. Service was always quick and clothes always came out as desired. It was a refreshing change given that it was always a gamble when you did dry cleaning in New York. The staff was always friendly and very helpful. I had to pick up some dry cleaning the day I was moving from Charlottesville and new I would be getting here a minute or two after close. I called and Shaniqa (sp) answered and told me she would have my items ready when I arrived. I did get there late and she was waiting with a smile on her face. I brought my military dress uniform to be dry cleaned and it came back with a stain that looked like drops of bleach had gotten on it. I noticed it the night before a Military Ball. I brought it to the attention of the owner/supervisor and she said it was probably something I did. To her credit she was very polite when she said it. My boyfriend and I have used Skyline Cleaners for the last couple of months. We were initially impressed by their expedience and apparent loyal customer base. After the last trip, however, neither of us will return. I brought our standard items for a cleaning: silk and linen dresses, wool suits, and a dressy skirt. Nothing exceptional or unique, and all items were clearly labeled with care instructions. The skirt, formerly white with bright pink, yellow, and orange flowers, was returned to me looking much worse for wear. The white is now a cloudy brown, the bright flowers have bled and lost much of their color, and the material looks worn and bleached. It is unfortunately clear that the staff threw the skirt into the washing machine, instead of properly dry cleaning the item (even though this is clearly labeled on the tag!). Shame on me for not catching this before I left the cleaners--I simply counted the hangers and headed home since we have had no previous issues. What a horror. An expensive skirt is now ruined, thanks to the negligence of this business, and I must echo the other one star reviews! read more

Great cleaners; I mostly use them for dress shirts (which don't really need dry cleaning, just wash, press, and starch), but when I've had really odd items needing special care (nice suits, or a kilt that needed to be dry-cleaned, then have all of its pleats individually ironed), they've been not only very helpful, but dirt-cheap as well. White coat. Red wine. Dangerous combination. I was at a crowded bar and stupidly ordered a glass of red wine. Within a minute, I had red wine all over my new white coat. Luckily I was tipsy enough to laugh but the next day was not laughing quite so much. I immediately took it to Skyline Cleaners on Barracks. The service was very friendly and they reassured me that they'd be able to get the red wine out. Three days later, I pick up the coat and it's all sparkly white again! All for a low price of $6! Best dry cleaning service experience I have ever had. That includes another dry cleaner in Virginia and a couple of busy and highly-rated dry cleaners in DC. I dropped my suit off on Thursday around 11 am. They offer a same-day service with a pickup time around 4 pm the next day (Friday). After I left the shop, I realized that I would need to pick up the suit no later than 2 pm on Friday. I called, they picked up promptly, cordially, and professionally, and I asked if I could pay for an expedited service to pick up the suit by 2 pm. They replied that they could not guarantee that quick of a turnaround time but probably could do it and would call me at 3:30 Thursday to give an updated status on my special request. At precisely 3:30, they called, again cordial and professional throughout the whole interaction. My suit would be ready for pick up--not at 2 pm on Friday--but as early as 10 am on Friday. (I could have picked it up even earlier.) At around 10:05 am on Friday, they called to confirm that my suit was ready. I showed up around 10:15 am and got the suit, which looked great, clean and freshly pressed. The staff there were again very pleasant to deal with, despite the fact that they were extremely busy at the time I showed up (perhaps because many students here are in 'interview season'). There was only one thing left to determine before giving my stamp of approval on Yelp. Did they staple their paper tag to my suit? Surprisingly, a few (highly-rated) dry cleaners in DC, on several occasions, stapled their tags carelessly so that the staple pierced the clothing, creating tiny holes in the fabric. Skyline Cleaners did not do this. Note: I will continue to use them. If I have a bad experience, I will update the rating. Keep in mind that people with bad experiences are much more likely to post ratings than people with positive experiences. Update: They did not press my suit very well. Overpriced and mediocre work and service. They "lost" an expensive shell and insisted repeatedly that I had never brought it in. Then they found it about 8 months later, handed it to me like nothing ever happened, didn't get the spot out, and charged me for it. I will never take my clothes to this place again. The owner was extremely rude and lied to me. First, they couldn't find my husband's white shirt and questioned if I had even dropped it off as I'm holding a ticket proving I did. Secondly, he took my wedding dress and said he would do his best to get the bottoms clean. When I picked it up it looked exactly the same and he wanted to charge me 40. No way was I going to pay that when it looked the same. He got very defensive and tried to lie and say he told me they don't do wedding dresses. He never ever said that. Why would I put my dress in your hands if you don't do them. I confirmed with my husband that he never said he doesnt do them. He was so rude. I'm really not sure what to think about this place. I just had them dry clean a blouse, jacket and dress for stains. The dress had a minor oil stain, and that turned out well, the silk blouse had a bunch of sweat stains, which were taken out, but it does look a bit damaged (thread seem pulled here and there, and you can see some cut threads) and it doesn't have that normal smoothness usually after I got it dry cleaned before. It was pretty wrinkled. The coat was just as wrinkled as when I brought it in, and out of the 2 stains, one was removed. I've had the coat and blouse dry cleaned before at other stores, and I don't remember them looking this wrinkled, so it almost makes me think they didn't really dry clean it. I'm not sure what to think. Are they just spot treating and not dry cleaning? They seem polite enough. Maybe you can only expect so much from a single dry cleaners. read more

The only place I do dry cleaning in Charlottesville. Prices are reasonable, work is very quality, and most importantly the people are great. Very friendly staff. One night I was coming in from the airport having spilled something on my suit. I had an interview in two days, so I desperately needed it cleaned. I pulled up at 6:02 as they were closing up (literally locking the door to go home). It was a Monday, and I am sure they had a long day. Not only did they let me drop off the suit, they did it with a smile while joking with me. I was keeping them from their after-work relaxation and families, but they were good to me.
