She stuck the dirty wax stick back in the wax after use!!!!!…read more She didn't throw away the wax stick after every single use. Literally: illegal. Don't get waxed here, it's a major health risk. Herpes and other venereal diseases could be spread with practices like this. When cutting corners becomes a customer liability, you know you're running a BAD BUSINESSSS! I went here yesterday and just got alerted they added a higher tip amount than I had signed off on. More bad business practices only solidifying more why NO ONE should go here unfortunately. They charge more for a leg wax and a bikini wax and pedicure than anywhere I had been in Manhattan, NYC getting it done for the last 8 years. They charge more than any European wax center. They charge twice the amount of the spa I went to three weeks ago and that included my armpits. DOUBLE THE AMOUNT. I wasn't happy with the scam prices and the patchy wax, or the health risk so I DID NOT tip 20% -it is what it is. I should not have tipped at all But, regardless yall gotta eat that and be grateful for the tip a costumer gives you RGARDLESS IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. Point blank period. You do not change a TIP AMOUNT. Illegal. You DO NOT reuse the same wax stick over and over: ILLEGAL. They don't have their prices listed for wax anywhere. Hence why I tipped what I did to round everything to a still UNREASONABLE amount. Prices are fraudulent. Wax was extremely patchy. Thighs barely are hairless at all... and the fact they added an extra tip for themselves. THESE practices could cost them their license. SCAMMERS I should have taken a photo of my receipt. Unfortunately you can't trust any business anymore. And I don't know why I didn't say anything when she was reusing the same wax stick over and over. I was genuinely in shock. -won't ever make that mistake again. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IVE SEEN THAT DONE. Disputing the amount with my bank currently. I'm Not happy dealing with fraudulent business practices.... EVER. But this one feels personal SO I WILL GO THROUGH GHE DISPUTE PROCESS FOR THE $5. -the quality was low and prices WAY TOOO HIGH and not marked anywhere. She had told me a price, wrote it down for me to see- then she scribbled it out and changed it within 10 seconds in front of me TO FIVE DOLLARS HIGHER. THEN WENT AND CHANGED MY TIP AMOUNT AS SOON AS I WALKED OUT??? Unfortunately they got the wrong one. I hope I don't break out with a disease... genuinely I may call the board. And to the management reading this: Yall better grip your licenses tight because now you've poked a bear. Get ready for a house visit from the health board. Genuinely, yall don't mess with customers like this...

One downside: the massage chair I sat in didn't work, which was a bit of a letdown. They did an acrylic fill-in on my UV gel set (or skipped the UV light until color polish?) -- not a huge deal, but it was unexpected and I wish they had mentioned it upfront. 2 stars for the quality -- Got the manicure on Saturday, and by Sunday my thumb had already chipped. Two more nails have chipped since. Disappointing longevity, especially for a gel set.

I was in Ann Arbor for a few days and wanting to get a pedicure. I'd mentally resolved that I would not be able to get my nails done on a Sunday. However, I went down State Street to grab some lunch. As I exited the restaurant with my to go order in hand, I looked up and saw the nail sign on in an upstairs window across the street. It took me a while to find the right door to go into to get to the nail salon; however, I was successful. You enter in a small door that's nestled between a couple of businesses and have to take the stairs up to the second floor, where Athena Nails is located (along with some other small businesses). I went in half expecting them to actually be closed (despite the sign being on), or unavailable to take me at that time. I have my lunch in hand and needed to be back at my hotel in about 80 minutes. I was shocked when the woman said that she could take me immediately, but I readily agreed. It's a suite space, so there were two pedicure chairs, and 2 or 3 individual nail stations. One pedicure chair was already occupied, so I took the second. I only use regular polish on my natural nails (no gel, SNS, or acrylics). Even though I'd noted this at intake, I had to clarify this once in the chair as the experience seemed, we were headed for gel polish. Once clarified, my nail technician quickly, switched gears and went to collect colors that were close to the shade. I chosen from the options originally provided. I was surprised to see that the regular polishes were all from a luxury brand (Hermès) but it made the slightly higher price I was quoted make sense. I see the experience is no frills, because it was just a straight pedicure. None of the extra add-ons that lots of nail shops offer these days. No paraffin wax or hot stones or scented waters; no massage chairs; etc. The chair did have a basin for hot water to sit your feet in, but it didn't do anything special. The technician cared for my nails, painted them, applied some special oils to them, and then lotioned my feet. I was able to eat my lunch (a salad) as she worked. I got out of there on time to get back to my hotel. Once I got to my hotel, I was able to change clothes without ruining my pedicure. It was completely dry with just the products she used. I didn't need time with my feet under a fan or anything else. Here's the kicker: I am now, two weeks out from this experience, and my polish still looks fresh. My toe nails are just now starting to show the first sign of even growing out the tiniest bit. If I lived locally, I'd patronize this place again and again.
